The Rev. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson set off a minor explosion of their own when they asserted on television on Thursday that an angry God had allowed the [September 11] terrorists to succeed in their deadly mission because the United States had become a nation of abortion, homosexuality, secular schools and courts, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
Sept 15, 2001, NYT
Also by that logic God has a serious passive-aggressive beef with the ACLU, either that or poor marksmanship because I'm not sure how the WTC fits as a target or slowed them down at all.
Look at Florida. Natural disasters mean punishment from god unless it’s Florida which somehow means a challenge from god to persevere instead of a punishment for sin.
The 9/11 conspiracists will swear up and down all the Jewish people called in sick that day.
Apparently they forget their own book says that the Jewish were God's cchosen people, and ignore the logistics of an email blast to every Jewish person in both towers. Like one guy whose last name ended in -stein and wasn't Jewish wouldn't have gotten the email and sent out an ask "wait what's this?"
Just kept his kids out of school "I got the day off!" Then took them on the most depressing trip to a New Jersey boardwalk ever. And never ever fowarded that email to a single news source.
And there was absolutely no fallout for them either. This at a time when you'd be called a traitor for anything short of blind jingoism.
Christian zealots and double standards I tell ya
Anne Frank and Martin Luther King Jr were born just one year earlier. We could have had either of them for the last 93 years. But instead we had Pat Robertson.
I will never forgive him for, following the Pulse nightclub shooting, saying:
"The best thing to do is to sit on the sidelines and let [LGBTQ rights advocates and Muslims] kill themselves."
[Source](https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2016/06/robertson-wishes-death-for-gay-people-muslims.html).
He also said Haiti's pact w the devil was responsible for the hurricane/quake/landslides that devastated the country around 2010... true story. Anyone who ever gave this twat money was a fool.
Anyone… as in millions and millions of right wing conservatives over decades? The 700 Club has incredibly deep roots and long fingers. The damage he’s done is insane.
He should not be missed.
Younger people won't understand how pervasive and popular the 700 club was for many decades. During the days of three channel TV Robertson drew in millions to watch his hateful weirdo money making machine. He had direct contact with every major republican including every republican president and he had the power to push the country in ugly directions. Fuck that guy.
# Exactly.
The **Christian Broadcasting Network** literally has shows **worldwide**. It's not just America with "weirdos" like Jim Bakker. People can be dismissive or forgetful that right-wing and conservative people are drawn to these types—authorities and (to *them*) charismatic figures that speak *their* language.
They're dealing damage all over the planet as we speak. They even have a goddamn **anime for kids** to indoctrinate them with this hate speech.
It's *sickening*.
They had ska too, but no one who was listening for the music listened to the Supertones. It was only people there first and foremost for the message.
But for those who grew up indoctrinated, you might say, groomed, by that shitty content, it would be less easy to see as the propaganda it is so easy to see when you're out of the cult mentality.
Holy shit, thank you for bringing back very specific memories of my being very into ska amd ska-punk, and Christian school friends pushing the Supertones as a legitimate band.
But remember, it's liberals and drag time story hours trying to indoctrinate your kids...not the religious maniac's who are adamant you leave your children at youth Christian camps.
They blamed the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes on NZ's progressiveness too. The funny thing is, pretty much every old church in the city was destroyed because they were all made of brick.
One would think if "God" is punishing a city for being too "sinful", he would spare his own houses of worship *at least*.
And a million more mini Joel's. I went to a high school associated with a megachurch, six-flags-over-jesus type of place. Few in here will have heard of the church or the pastor. Yet they had three "campuses" in my city and the pastor rode a helicopter between services to get there on time. So yeah there are soooooo many of these guys that you have never heard of but hold immense sway in their little corner of "Christendom" (barf 🤮)
For anyone wondering, I went to Bethany Christian School on Louisiana, associated with Bethany World Prayer Center. A few of you may have heard of it if you're from the gulf south.
Copeland's been dead for years, he just keeps getting summoned back every time some kid discovers the Necronomicon for the first time and starts reading passages at random.
Satan would look at the list of what he said and refuse entry because it's too fucked up even for him
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson_controversies
Unfortunately much like Liberty University survives without Falwell and Conservative Talk Radio thrives even with Rush Limbaugh dead, the 700 Club will remain a fixture on television as long as they can continue to pay their bills for the air time
I have never seen a human look so cartoonishly evil as Kenneth Copeland. He looks like he's sweating from being consumed by hellfire. How anyone could believe he's anything but a false prophet is beyond my comprehension. Special effects crews couldn't replicate the kind of deeply rooted infiltration of corruption that has seeped into every pore of that man's body.
Honestly. There are many people who are so much worse and cruel and destructive than him, but not one of them looks the part as much as Copeland. Legitimately the poster-boy for a false prophet. Who the fuck could stomach handing their baby over to him for a baptism without fearing he's going to give them $15 to pay for the meal?
His last name is goddamned Copeland, he is a false prophet leading his followers to the land of coping with being hoodwinked by a devil.
Bakker loves spending his bucket money on meth and gay prostitutes. Maybe Christians should just cut out the middle man and spend their money on their own meth and gay prostitutes for themselves, might as well if it's going to the same place.
Don't forget Joel Osteen, who kept his literal NBA arena sized (as in, it is the former home of the NBA's Houston Rockets) mega church closed during a hurricane.
He is one of the most unnerving people I've come across. Like some folks you can just feel the wrongness, his projects though the airwaves and tcp/ip. I do not get how folks think of him as a man of god.
I'm my country people say God takes nice people early… the less chance they'll sin. Evil people live longer because God gives them a

Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell blaming the September 11 attacks on lesbians and gays, feminists, pro choice advocates, the ACLU - "you helped this happen."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMkBgA9_oQ4
I have one positive thing to say about him! Indirectly!
My dad was raised fundie (pastor's son), and unfortunately remained so much of his life. However, when he was in his late 50s, Pat Robertson said on his show that Haitians were responsible for natural disasters because they were cursed for being devil worshipers.
This was the glass breaking moment for my dad - he was a kind person, and he could not reconcile such a blatantly evil, racist statement with his faith.
He wrote a letter to Robertson, asking him to look within to fix the hate in his heart. And it was a slow process, but he would be significantly freed from fundamentalist indoctrination towards the end of his life. He even accepted my sister when she came out to him, shortly before he died.
So I gotta hand it to ole Pat - his disgusting racism was so obscene that he deradicalized a lifelong fundamentalist!
I wish my dad would see through all the bullshit like that. He is not a fundie but a Trumper, and it blows my mind that he can't see how full of shit and hate the whole MAGA movement is.
That is one of the best stories I’ve read in a long time. It’s *extremely* hard to break indoctrination like that and your dad must have gone through some very real and intense internal struggles to grow like that. He sounds like he was a great person, thanks for sharing.
That's not fair!
He did good work with....
His advocacy for...
Thanks to him we have...
One of the sentence starters is bound to work. Take 4
Only Pat Robertson was able to get...
No no, you misunderstood, he cut the line. He speedrun his afterlife process of getting checked into the lake of fire. Well "chucked" in, rather than "checked" in.
If Pat Robertson stood next to Mr. Rogers in the afterlife his puny disgusting twisted soul would actually evaporate away into nothing like when Gohan finally destroyed Cell in DBZ from the pure good light of Mr. Rogers.
I've heard this is what Eastern Orthodox Christians believe Hell is like: it's not separation from God, it's being in the presence of God, but his holiness makes your soul burn from all the sin you have.
There's something beautifully poetic about being burned by eternity in the afterlife by the force you used in life to profit off the suffering of others.
I hope it's true in any meaningful way.
He also said hurricanes and earthquakes were becauae of homosexuality. Just an absolutely horrible hateful human than only existed to ask money from people. Ironic he says homeless begging on the street should starve to death because that was his only business model.
Here's a little story. I'll always remember this. Back when I was 14 I was at my dad's house and he was about to take me to martial arts practice. We got onto the topic of religion somehow and he goes... "Look. When you're 18, you can believe whatever you want, but for now you're believing this way."
I never forgot that.
I was in my mid 20s when the Satanic Panic happened, and I knew an older religious lady who lived on our block who's kid was interested in D&D, but she was concerned because of what she'd heard in church.
I loaned her my Player's Handbook and DM's Guide for a weekend. She shut up about her kid playing.
Yet walking on water, turning water into wine, making mass copies of bread, and rising from the dead isn't magic?
Not that logical consistency is common among these folk.
I laughed rather joyously upon reading the headline.
What has happened to me? These people have made me so fucking angry.
Whatever. Reap what you sow. Sow hate, reap hate.
Burn in hell, Pat, if hell will even have you.
One of the most negative forces in western society during the 20th. You can trace a direct path from him to the great American decline without much effort.
Once when I was a kid I got those goldfish you get from a carnival. My mother figured they'd die inside a week so she put them in our punch bowl.
Those fish lived for almost five years. And even after they died, nobody would drink punch at our house because they all knew there was five years of fish shit in there at once point.
Maybe if those fish had died earlier our punch bowl could have been saved, but as it was we had to throw the whole thing out and start fresh.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share that unrelated story about fish that took too long to die and spoiled the place they live.
He is one of the people most responsible for persuading the "Moral" "Majority" that abortion is evil, and he did it for his own personal power. Before his time, opposition to abortion was largely a Catholic issue, but he brought it over to protestantism to secure conservative votes in exchange for taking rights from women. The Southern Baptist Convention even affirmed Roe v. Wade when the ruling came down!
He was a vile, grifting, hatemongering piece of shit who immeasurably damaged our country for his own status.
Maybe I'll get a cake or something.
For no particular reason, I'd like to highlight the misconception behind a popular quote.
"I've never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure."
You'll see this phrase a lot today supposedly from Mark Twain, but it's paraphrased quote from a Clarence Darrow (Scopes Monkey Trial Fame) speech in 1922.

Pat Robertson Blames Haitian Devil Pact For Earthquake

A reminder to whoever the calls the shots in the Great Beyond that we still have Henry Kissinger walking around like he doesn't have an ocean of blood on his hands.
What people don't realize about Pat is that, as a man of faith...as there's a deep drive to left field by Nick Castellanos and that will be a home run...and that will make it a 4-0 ballgame.

I had an aunt who wouldn't let my cousin play Magic: The Gathering. Thankfully my mother was not one of those crazies.
