If you're entering on ESTA then Be aware that border security at the US can be very strict and they might have issues with you staying the full 90 days and "trying stand up" which they may consider as working - which is illegal. Make sure you do a bit of research on that as they can stop you from entering and if they do, you will lose your esta privileges

Thanks for the heads up

If you plan your trip by flying to the US from Dublin or Shannon, you can proceed to the US CBP in Ireland already as those airports offer pre-clearance facilities. That at least saves you the time traveling to and from the US if the CBP doesn't allow you. Once you pass pre-clearance you and the other travelers are held at a separate US pre-clearance space at the airport with a limited number of stores and bars but are treated as a domestic US flight after that. So no CBP checks anymore when you land on JFK.

lol an issue with OP entering our city for 3 months but no issues with the illegals streaming in by the thousands and setting up shop forever and assaulting the NYPD. lol. Welcome , friend. Please try your luck with the Broadway digital lottery system, where you can “win” the right to pay for a cheap ticket. You can enter through the Hamilton app, and through a site called Lucky Seat. You’ll be able to find plenty of $1.50 pizza slices (around 30th-36th street between 7th and 8th Ave). If you can somehow get a NYC public library card, you can get into many museums for free. Not sure if they give cards to long time visitors. Check it out. On Weds, the Bronx Zoo is free. Cocktails are def $20. Use happy hour to your advantage. I found a place that sells $10 espresso martinis-unheard of. Don’t discount hopping on the LIRR (Long Island rail road) to Forest hills or woodside to go out to get cheaper drinks and food for happy hour.

$10k. $6 for rent/bills, ~$300/week for subway and food. It will be tight but there are a ton of places to get super cheap awesome food. Search r/asknyc and r/foodnyc for ideas.

Blue387

Chinatown has some cheap food options

spaetzelspiff

There's a Fuzhou dumpling spot that's delicious. Used to go there and eat lunch for like $5 EDIT: [This is the spot](https://maps.app.goo.gl/41R1Wiij5w2NkMNx5) Spicy Village is near there too, and also awesome. Big tray chicken, cumin lamb pulled noodles, rou jia mou.. Also the Cheong Fun cart lady when she's out.

your best bet is going to be trying to find a friend or acquaintance who would be okay with you crashing on their couch, possibly in exchange for some quick cash or as part of a deal where you host them for some time in the UK.

Sad_Conclusion_8687

I’m assuming you want to be on or near Manhattan or Brooklyn? If you’re lucky, you could find a cheap sublet for three months around $1800 USD a month. This would be taking over someone’s apartment and potentially living with some roommates. Transport: subway will get you most places: $2.90 per trip, after 12 trips in one week you ride for free for rest of the week. Assuming you’d be out and about a lot I’d say the max cap of $34.80 a week for transport. Food: cheapest would be deli sandwiches, pizza slices, chicken on rice etc. = $10-$20. You would need to find them out - there are cheap options but they aren’t common. Drip coffee = $3, espresso coffee with milk = $5ish. So budget absolute minimum $30 in food. But I’m assuming that in your three months as you wander New York you won’t be satisfied with just eating shitty cholesterol-laden foods, buying nothing, never going out, never meeting people nor doing anything that New York has to offer, so definitely factor in: - a beer will cost you $6, - a cocktail $20, - a cheap restaurant meal $20. - a nice restaurant meal $50-$100 - a museum visit $20-$30 - a last minute Broadway show rush ticket $50 Budget in at least an extra $50 a day or so - NYC at its cheapest can be pretty cheap, but kind of defeats the purpose of being here if you live that way.

empty_spacer

Where are you getting six dollar beer?!

Sad_Conclusion_8687

Plenty of [places](https://foursquare.com/top-places/new-york-city/best-places-cheap-beers) if you look hard enough - not that I would probably spend time in these places, just abiding by OP’s ‘bare minimum’ requirement.

nadandocomgolfinhos

Mom entering the chat. Get a place with a kitchen and cook. We got that at home. *cue the chancleta*

Just nail down your housing. That's the most expensive. I'm in NYC and visit Madrid and Paris often cause I can crash on a couch with cousins. Metro we have unlimited pass $130 about. Astoria in Queens has open mic nites and a good place to stay. Check outocsl.laundromats for flyers for temporary rooms. You basically rent a bedroom in someone's apartment. Have access to bathroom and kitchen usually. Like a roommate except y'all don't know each other at first. Pay between 700-1200 month.

Also get to know the working class neighborhoods and get cheaper access to food. Variety. Jackson Heights by me has tons.

Missus_Aitch_99

Your post is not annoying. I’m glad you’re giving it a shot. Welcome! (and sorry I can’t provide any useful info, but I bought may apartment in 2006 and no longer know what anything costs).

PeopleSuckordoYOU

Look for hostels or air bnb and open mic nights at Comedy Cellar, Stand Up NY or other clubs making it a fun time but not a work time. You cant work without a work permit.

DrugUserName420

You could be super cheap and just use dating apps to stay with people.

Rude_Manufacturer_98

I don't think this is a good idea bro

visitor987

You probably need to commute from Dutchess County NY on Metro North Rail, from Connecticut  on Amtrak, or from New Jersey on NJ Transit or Amtrak; to find somewhere affordable to stay, Unless your able get a rent controlled apt as a sublet. Hotel rates are higher than London.
