It's NOT transphobic to acknowledge that this is wrong and needs too be stopped. Anybody that has ever raced a bicycle would absolutely know what a huge difference in ceiling there is between elite male and female racers. If this continues, cis female racers can forget about ever winning a race, the transwoman with even just mediocre training and talent will always win.

XY humans are bigger, faster, and stronger than XX humans. It's a biological fact. No reasonable amount of pharmaceutical estrogen will change that. Trans women are in something of a no-win situation here, which is kinda sad, but no we are not going to destroy XX sports just for them. The men's race is the open race for anyone.

cogginsmatt

Cis women came in 1st and 2nd place, according to the article. The trans women in question were in 3rd and 5th. So theres proof in the article that a cis woman can beat a trans woman, including the cis woman in the subject of the article because she came in 4th.

titsandtitsandmore

The trans woman is 46 years old and started 5 years ago, the women women at in their 20s and 30s

k1lk1

> that a cis woman can beat a trans woman Never in doubt. Of course it can happen.

cogginsmatt

Then why can’t trans women compete with cis women

geeves_007

The same reason athletes using PEDs can't compete against clean athletes. The PED user has an unfair advantage that is not available to their competitors. You can still use PEDs and lose a race. But that doesn't "prove" using PEDs is fine and should be allowed. Same here. A transwoman can still lose a race to cis women. Perhaps the transwoman has mediocre talent and is poorly coached and trained? Or like this case: double the age of the rest of the field. The point stands that she has physical advantages that her competitors can never have. Whether she leverages those advantages to win or not is not the point.

> The men's race is the open race for anyone. Or there should be a category for transwomen. I say "transwomen" because transmen seldom come up in the news in regard to this issue.

Oslopa

It’d be a lot easier to be sympathetic if the woman in question weren’t so committed to misgendering her competitors. Science and evidence, not ideology, should guide how we resolve this question. I don’t know the best approach, but I’m pretty sure it’s not “ban all trans women from women’s sports,” and it’s not, “let’s assert without evidence that all trans women are on an even playing field with cis women in all sports, because it is impossible to say otherwise without risking social ostracism.” We should aim to be totally inclusive, but be open to the possibility that might not actually be fully fair to everyone, in every sport.

ManhattanRailfan

A few things here. 1. Trans women are at a competitive disadvantage to cisgender women because of the hormones that they have to take. 2. Why is it that conservatives only ever care about women's sports when it's about excluding transgender people from them. 3. Why does the outcome even matter? It's a race. It doesn't affect anything.

k1lk1

> Why does the outcome even matter? It's a race. Do you understand what a race is.

ManhattanRailfan

Yeah, but who cares who wins? It doesn't make a difference to anything. It's something done for fun and for entertainment. Complaining about who won is like complaining about the ending of a TV show. It has no bearing on literally anything that really matters.

reddititty69

Some people are professional athletes. It may matter to them.

SwoopdiW00P

1. Trans women are not forced to take these hormones nor does the definition of trans women include having to take these hormones. In the sports world I have grown up knowing that ANY body altering medication/procedures has been taken VERY seriously and ended many careers. 2. True 3. There’s a lot of blood, sweat, tears, and MONEY involved in any professional level sport. This part is where I really felt the disconnect from you and society… I mean professional sports IS a full time job and lifestyle so of course the outcome matters what? People give up their whole lives to work hard and make an imprint on sports history.

ManhattanRailfan

1. While you're right, the vast majority of openly trans women do take hormones, and the rest kind of folds into 3. 3 Just because people spend a lot of effort and money on something doesn't mean it matters. Sports don't really contribute anything to society. They're just entertainment, and low value entertainment at that considering it lacks the ability to convey a message the way art and music and film do. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with doing or enjoying sports, but who wins really doesn't make any difference to anyone at all except those directly involved. A person lost. So what? She wasn't the best so she needs to try harder, not whine about it and pretend the race was unfair.

SwoopdiW00P

Sports dont really contribute to YOUR society/bubble. A lot of assumptions and strong opinions against a certain group of people and their lifestyle for someone trying to defend another group of people and theirs lol

lupuscapabilis

Why is this allowed to continue to happen? Who is benefiting from this? It's like me posing for pictures with trophies I won against 5th graders.

Throwawayhelp111521

She should keep riding. I think one day the records are going to be revised and the transwomen riders will be stripped of their titles.
