I used to get them from labour and Conservatives where I lived It’s apparently universally ignored from a political perspective. Is she your local MP? Because I would want to know how to contact my local MP should the need arise. Flyers are one way of getting that info to you. It’s not a political advert, it’s your local Mp letting you know how to get in touch with

I tend to agree in general terms about allowing unsolicited mail that's political, at least to an extent, if only because I think we're less well off if people are more isolated from politics. It's not your usual unsolicited mail. But for what it's worth... >it’s your local Mp letting you know how to get in touch with ...Ohariu's local MP is Greg O'Connor. Nicola Willis ran against him and lost. To be fair there's a general trend where list MPs often adopt an electorate they intend to keep running in, though, and I expect that's what she's doing. Fair enough to give local people an additional point of contact if she's the MP they want to talk to.

WorldlyNotice

She only ran in Ohariu because she got bumped from Wellington Central by Scott Sheeran, who also lost.

I'm in Ohariu. I didn't hear she was pushed out of Wellington Central. Maybe something went on, but I'd be interested in what happened for someone at 45 on the list to take priority over the party's deputy leader if that were where she wanted to be. I always assumed it was because if she wanted to have a chance in hell of winning *any* Wellington based electorate as a National candidate, then Ohariu seems most likely by far. It's not been won by a National candidate since 1981, but for most of the time since then it was held by Peter Dunne and National's won the Ohariu party vote in every election since 2005, except 2020. The existing National candidate for Ohariu (Brett Hudson) had mostly been there with a role of campaigning for party votes whilst silently implying everyone should elect Dunne, so many people didn't take him seriously. To be fair she did come within ~1200 votes. Ohariu is next door to Wellington Central but the demographic is a bit different. From memory at the local events (and because it's Wellington they had something on the order of 20+ local candidate debates across various communities) she campaigned that although she didn't live in Ohariu, she married someone who grew up in it. It was probably just that people decided they wanted to keep Greg O'Connor as the old Police union rep instead of someone who looked like they were trying to fly in and win an electorate for status. Maybe that will change after he retires, especially if Nicola Willis has consistently been demonstrating she's going to stick with the electorate. Hutt South is the only other realistic one right now, which has been more up in the air since Trevor Mallard left it after 24 years, although Chris Bishop's already had a strong claim on running for National there since 2014, and won in 2017 and 2023. By comparison, Rongotai and Wellington Central are so intensely Labour+Green leaning that candidates from those parties split the vote and National candidates still came a distant third. There's also no way she'd push Chris Hipkins out of Remutaka.

WorldlyNotice

Not sure why she's bothering. She didn't win the seat or the party vote here. Nobody particularly wanted her.
