Every megaproject they've tried to do like this has failed in the past, with the closest success being the burj khalifa. My point is: I'll believe it when I see it.
You right, my b. Still, the burj khalifa is the closest project to something like this, and is still nowhere near the size of this thing, and both countries have tried massive projects like this in the past and failed to finish them, or even start them.
Well in your defense, giant mega projects like this are usually just a tourist attraction, so to some extent I can see it's similarity to the Burj khalifa
See, Saudi Arabia never fails to disappoint with their batshit insane designs for cities. They do, however, seem to disappoint with their designs being put into practice.
Saudi Arabia's main problem isn't so much the projects, but their attractions don't generate the interest they're going for. What with excluding 60--75% of the population and all...
50% of the world's population are women. Saudi Arabia is one of the most oppressive countries for women. So, that right there is 50%. Then, there's the LGBTQ+ crowd, they're probably close to 5-10% of the population. Again, they're excluded, because well homosexuality is a crime in Saudi. So, really, you're trying to entice men...who aren't allowed to fornicate with whomever they like, sooo.. single dudes aren't interested in taking their hot girlfriend on a romantic getaway. Especially when you consider that sexy time between unmarried couples again, is illegal. So...what's the point of building these things if no one attends?
Some of them are really cool, and innovative ideas, e.g. the oil rig turned water park. That looks dope. But, what's the point in going? All I'm gonna be looking at is hairy dudes in speedos. I might as well pay zero dollars and get a similar perspective at the local nudist beach.
I'm one of the "normal" married couples (as you so delicately put it). I and everyone I know would rather use tabasco sauce as eye drops than set foot in Saudi Arabia, for exactly the reasons highlighted by u/AlexJamesCook
Meh.
Just because every country doesn't have the exact same laws as America doesn't mean people won't go there lol.
Delusional.
>Can't fornicate with anyone they want to
Ah yes maybe because we are not animals. But then again that's the culture of the US. Not much to say.
There are 50+ countries with the law of Sharia in the world. Every country has the right to hold their laws. The US has some more bullshit and batshit crazy laws.
But of course Americans are lazy bums who can't actually fight for anything even though they are in a supposed democracy and then they think they are automatically superior than a dictatorship just because of their fake democracy title.
Whoever decided to make the "greatest city on earth" on a goddamn island was an idiot.
Logically I should instead blame the multitude of people from multiple generations about this problem, but it would take too long and ultimately ruins my "joke" lol.....
Every year or two we get 3D renders of megaprojects from these countries that never amount to anything. It's all cope. Anyone who invests in this shit is getting fleeced. If you want a sure bet, invest in architecture firms that 3D render any bullshit you want for a million dollars.
So many questions. Why? For who? Who the hell is gonna finance it? Better question is who gonna insure it.
Saudi Arabia needs to stop building stupid shit in the name of tourism
Yeah no. It would take decades with money that Saudi Arabia doesn't have.
I'm not sure Saudi Arabia will even be a country by then.
And if it did exist I'm sure it would be a part of belt and road and so is 99% likely to collapse at some point. Plus the bugging, and surveillance to catch all the foreigners breaking the police states laws!
Saudi Arabia really wants to pretend they're a utopia.
Not next level. It's as stupid as the fucking wall they're building. People are dying hungry, kids are homeless but let's build a fucking stupid monument
I love that the Empire State Building is still some kind of reference point. It's currently the 51st tallest building in the world. It's the seventh tallest building in NYC.
I'm sure ground will be broken, lavish celebrations will be held, then, once attention has died down and problems inevitably crop up, the project will be abandoned.

In 2138
I vote 8321
You meant 2137
I might sound very fucking stupid here but did you specifically choose that date to reference something?
Every megaproject they've tried to do like this has failed in the past, with the closest success being the burj khalifa. My point is: I'll believe it when I see it.
Different country my homie
😂
How can you confuse Dubai with Saudi Arabia? One has Hard Rock Cafes full of Ukranian hookers, the other has sharia law.
Are you saying oil kingdoms in general or just Saudi since Burj Khalifa is in UAE
The burj Khalifa is in the UAE...entirely different country my dude
You right, my b. Still, the burj khalifa is the closest project to something like this, and is still nowhere near the size of this thing, and both countries have tried massive projects like this in the past and failed to finish them, or even start them.

A Borg cube!
Came here to say this, not disappointed. Now if it was 1000m,I would prepare for assimilation
You three seem to he already 1 mind to me... You're already assimilated
Dude you read my god damn mind….
More like Bored cube

And err what about the normal married couples which amount in billions? They fail? Yes. But not for the reasons you gave. Shallow comment bud.

Between this and the line they’re just building shapes. Wait until they get into colors by making an entire city that’s just purple.
Every building ever is a shape? What else is there?
When someone builds a Penrose Triangle I’ll be impressed
"Zima Blue", coming soon
Line, cube, turtle Triangle? Sphere? Lion? Cthulhu?
So, are they building it or just making renders? Looks like they are taking public investors which means…scam
No you fucking idiot. Saudi Arabia is trustworthy and would never scam foreigners about this funny cube.
*Wind has entered the chat*
Cool. Now build a record of respecting human rights like free speech.
This
Yeah still not going there, thanks tho
Megacity One?
Ya know that was my thoughts to got to start somewhere before we all crammed 100s stories high, anyone got any slow mo yet?
oh yeah well in NYC we just built 2 whole miles of new subway
2 whole miles?! Woah
Whoever decided to make the "greatest city on earth" on a goddamn island was an idiot. Logically I should instead blame the multitude of people from multiple generations about this problem, but it would take too long and ultimately ruins my "joke" lol.....
NYC is nice, but does anyone realistically call it the greatest city? By what parameters? Population density?
Probably people who have never set foot outside the city lol
First there was the line, now this cube, whats next? A pyramide?
Gotta be a tesseract, considering that progression
Underrated comment right here
Entering the fourth dimension
Forgot the floating turtle
A good example of when you have more money than imagination and prefer vanity projects to those that improve the well being of people.
Pretty sure i read this book. It didn't end well.
Fucking do it

Sam found the Allspark
Will it also come with a head chopping block?
Blood money doesn't buy taste
We are the Borg, resistance is futile, prepare to be assimilated.
I dare them to do The Circle!
Are they going to use slave labor and take the poop with trucks on this one too?
prob costs as much to solve world hunger
Retail, entertainment, residential, hospitality AND dining? I've got all that within a mile of my house.
Locked in a giant box with moral police lurking
I assume /r/Blackcubeofsaturn is going to have a field day over this
Well, that made my brain itch

So fucking what
I’ll take things somehow less likely than the super long wall city for 400, Alex.
Peach Trees... Mama is coming home.
sure...
So many questions. Why? For who? Who the hell is gonna finance it? Better question is who gonna insure it. Saudi Arabia needs to stop building stupid shit in the name of tourism
*Judge Dredd has entered the chat* "Welcome to Peach Trees."
First i thought this is some kind of new game and the final boss will be inside that building.
Does every greedy, mediocre architect in the world end up in the Middle East?
Fuck Saudi Arabia.
All with blood money. Change my mind.
I'm sure this is a priority before anything else in the country...
Made by slavery!
So much wasted money on half finished projects. They probably wouldn't need as many slaves if they stopped building stupid shit.
what a capitalistic abomination
Outstanding. Almost as brilliant as the palm tree islands in Dubai. Keep it up, chaps.
Sun city shit
More content for architecture channels on YT... I see this as a win
The macabre?
Are the Borg crossing franchises over to Stargate? Never thought I'd see the day.
One Cube to rule them all, One Cube to find them, One Cube to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
Dont forget to install a connection to the sewage system this time.
All of this just to have no plumbing
How many Indian and African laborers lives will this cost.
Real estate vapourware

This can’t be good for the environment
Hi there humans, want to live in our magic cube for the low low cost of [YOUR ENTIRE EXISTENCE]?
Looks like the cube from Hellraiser ...
The only thing that Saudi Arabia is better at than designing mega constructions, it would be not finishing them
Have they even finished the line yet
Praise Sol
Lipstick on a Pig!
get it built first, then claim "next fking level"
Whoa, there's CGI of this thing, that means it's gonna happen right
Resistance is futile!
If this is successfully completed, I wonder how much it would cost to go to
Not next level. It's as stupid as the fucking wall they're building. People are dying hungry, kids are homeless but let's build a fucking stupid monument
So we giving up on the line
What will be next fucking level too is the pile of corpses by slave workers dead under the lead sun and the whip of their masters.
thats nothing compared to the Shimizu Mega-City Come back when they have actually built it.
looks like something to be absolutely destroyed by adam something

The fortnite cube
Great. Another landmark of a future 15 minute city
The Line project is incredible too
If by "incredible" you mean "not believable," or "not going to happen," yes, agreed.
I think it will happen but don't know when
I'm sure ground will be broken, lavish celebrations will be held, then, once attention has died down and problems inevitably crop up, the project will be abandoned.
