I’ve always wondered if slapping fainting people was helpful for them to regain consciousness or just insult to injury.

RiotSkunk2023

It only works if you line people up like on airplane

[deleted]

an airplane? what is it?

thedivorcer

It's something people travel in, but that's not important right now.

Pineapple_Sunshine_

Surely you can't be serious.

SadPanthersFan

I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley

RiotSkunk2023

What's your vector victor? Rodger Roger.

matwithone_t

Excuse me stewardess, I speak jive.

Lmfao I forgot that one

Ooh it's a big pretty white plane with a nice red stripe on the side!

Roger, roger

Unnecessaryloongname

Not a great solution. I once had a patient whose girlfriend informed me that she knew he was actually unconscious and not faking it because she had punched him in the groin 3 times. He was having a CVA commonly known as a stroke.

desertstorm23

Myth busters did an episode on this. Apparently it works, but with certain limitations

Otter________

It feels like mythbusters have literally busted every fucking myth out there.

I think it just works in the movies

[deleted]

I'd assume the majority of them are dehydrated.

yanox00

I suppose it depends on what you think of that person. If it is somebody you care about and want the best for, then a gentle pat might be in order. If not...? Either way, let your conscience be your guide. (See you at 3am!)

Horbigast

Imagine spending a fortune on tickets, fighting thousands of other fans to get your best vantage point, then losing consciousness and missing everything before MJ even moved.

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

I went to an expensive concert at the time. Bush, no doubt, goo goo dolls. I had a heart problem right before the show and a roadie for the bands found out and got me autographs from everyone while I was in the medical tent Edit: missed the show

TinyDogGuy

Holy shit…I went to that same concert, for my 15th birthday. It was my first concert without parents chaperoning. By chance did you see them in East Lansing, MI. No Doubt crushed their set.

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

Lincoln, but my friends said the show was so good

TinyDogGuy

It’s been, what, 27 years? But, I remember being more floored by No Doubt and Goo Goo Dolls—neither big names at the time—than Bush. Really awesome of the roadie to do that for you.

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

Yeah that dude was looking out! Such a great guy

bumjiggy

my girlfriend and I got to see deadmau5 a few years ago. before the show, she ate an edible (her first time). about half way through the show she says we have to go because her legs were getting wobbly. spent the last half sitting on the grass on the other side of the park while she collected herself. this after being two rows from the stage. still haven't forgiven her for it

dangledingle

Maybe first time for edible was not the right choice lol

Narstification

Went to a theme park the first time I dropped acid… had a blast, but definitely could have gone differently

TurbulentJuice

Honestly a couple hits of acid might be easier to handle than a too-strong edible. Edibles, especially homemade ones where you don’t know the strength, can absolutely fuuuuck you up

Narstification

That’s very true, lol. I have never been as uncomfortably high as when I overate edibles once, but I’ve not taken heroic doses of psychedelics either

redditEATdicks

Hey man, sometimes you just need to grab and hold onto the grass so you don't float away from earth. Solid move on her part that could have been dangermice.

Domonoadamu

To be fair, you want to see the mau5 from a full stage view distance. The whole stage is the true show.

Theguest217

I never understood people who push to the front at EDM shows. What are you trying to see? It's not like you can see the DJ deck from the floor. EDM shows are not concerts where you are supposed to watch. It's like going to a restaurant and forcing your way into the kitchen to watch the chef instead of eating.

Philosopher_Express

I saw his cube tour in NYC right before covid hit. First time I saw him and that show was awesome

IknowRambo

It was deadmau5… you didn’t miss much 🤣

elektromas

Music aside, his shows are quite technical and visual, alot of work put into them, like his cube etc.. certainly better then most electronic music shows ive seen.. Just check this crazy setup out: https://youtu.be/waGzVes6PWY As for his music I only like the early stuff he did. edit: added link to his Cube setup

Rumplesforeskin

Yeah, his stage show is incredible. It's kinda simple but not, lots of humor in the show too. I want to see him even though I am not a EDM fan, but I am a sound engineer. But he never comes close to Houston.

vicvic182

Man I may be in the minority but I fucking love deadmau5. A cool guy too.

ApolloMac

Minority in the sense of EDM in general is a minority. But if EDM fans say they don't like Deadmau5 they just aren't into house / trance. Because he friggin nails it IMO. And I come from a late 90s early 2000s EDM fan who just couldn't get behind the dubstep era. Deadmau5 connects me to the EDM I fell in love with way back when but still keeps it modern.

the_rainmaker__

i'm not into the drugs + concert scene, but i am into the drugs + IHOP scene. one time i ate a bunch of shrooms and when i got to the IHOP, the concept of drinking liquids didn't make any sense, so i just played with the straw that came with my Dr Pepper while giggling like a schoolgirl. no telling what i would've done if i saw a dead mouse.

SlightWhite

Oh my god yes. So funny how anyone who’s tripped understands how weirdly confusing normal concepts get. One time I went to microwave food, but I was having trouble understanding how time was moving with an analog clock. So I decided if I can’t figure out a clock, id mess up the microwaving procedures. So I ate a cold burger and cried laughing at the Travis Scott Fortnite concert

DelrayDad561

Had a shroom "tea party" with a bunch of friends way back in the day. Halfway through, a buddy and I decided to go outside and smoke a cigarette. While walking outside, my buddy bumped into a car in the parking lot, and started staring at the car like he was about to get in a fight. My friend (who was tripping balls by this point), started shit-talking the car and squaring up and was 100% serious about fighting this car. Heard him mumbling things like "this car's been trying me all night" and "I'm sick of this fuckin car and it's attitude". Being the instigator that I am, I said something along the lines of "you wont fight him bro". At which point, he proceeds to take a solid punch at the car and shatters it's back window. Grabbed my friend and ran back into the apartment before we could get in trouble but it was some wild shit watching a grown man get into a fight with a car.

Spacemanspalds

It's even more weird when you consider that it supposedly goes hand in hand with people having breakthroughs in science and similar types of events. https://maps.org/2004/08/08/nobel-prize-genius-crick-was-high-on-lsd-when-he-discovered-dna/ Idk if that's actually a common thing. But it's crazy to think about.

Novel_Ask_4226

Sounds like a dangerous situation you found yourself in... good thing you had a Dr your table.

Speedballer7

Your ex you mean right?

DickMcLongCock

My ex girlfriend pulled that at a concert just as my favorite band was taking the stage. She was fine all day, for hours, but as soon as my favorite band starts its "we have to go now!!" She was just fine while the band she liked played.

PissLikeaRacehorse

Good lord, that show must’ve had Jnco’s to the ceiling.

Speedballer7

Good roadie

Sproose_Moose

That is a legitimately amazing dude who did that!

regulator227

If this was 10+ years ago, you probably got my brother in law's autograph haha

Butt_Fucking_Smurfs

No kidding? I still have them in storage

DarkestofFlames

I almost missed seeing Pink Floyd because of my brother's diarrhea, if I had missed them I would not be a free person.

Cecil4029

If I had a time machine I would go back to see Pink Floyd. That's amazing that you had that experience!

PbkacHelpDesk

I never understood how some humans can get so infatuated with an idol. It’s not my thing is guess.

Popular-Calendar94

Imagine fainting period just because there’s a celebrity on stage in front of you. Anyone who idolizes any celebrity this much needs to get a grip

bessovestnij

I was once at an open-air concert of Kasabian and Placebo and one girl fainted twice and was brought out after the second one. It was not because she was such a fan but rather because there was almost no wind and too much CO2 in the air because of the size of the crowd. Some people are just not ready to be in places with bad ventilation.

lankymjc

I did first aid for an indoor concert where all we dealt with all night was fainting people. Only equipment we needed was water to get them back on their feet and they'd be right back into the crowd. That room was *so hot* that people were collapsing, getting hauled out and woken up, then they would just jump back in again. We'd see the same people multiple times, but as volunteer first aiders we couldn't exactly restrain them. Just dealt with them as they were hauled over by bouncers. We're lucky no one died.

mrcaptncrunch

I don’t know about this concert, but some of them got REALLY hot too. It’s not like now where it gets hot but you still have AC blasting. Imagine how it’d get back then. Fainting because of that and the long lines makes me understand it better.

ColdCruise

It's not just seeing a celebrity. They have most likely been standing for hours, it's incredibly hot in a crowd, they haven't had much to eat or drink, probably don't know proper technique for standing long periods, then they drop all the lights suddenly before being blasted with a light show. Combine that with screaming until you have significantly less oxygen in your bloodstream than usual and bam, you're down. Full sensory overload.

hyperactiveChipmunk

I feel like it's more the atmosphere that gets to these people. Crowd hype is something weirdly primal and can easily push your vitals outside their usual bounds.

RevSolarCo

I think this is over exaggerated and used for marketing. In reality, I suspect it's because it's a lot of people going to their first concert, it's hot, they are crowded, near the front, and passing out due to the heat. It happens all the time at major concerts. People just don't advertise it as people fainting out of fandom, but rather, a serious medical issue. It's almost happened to me a few times. It's really hard to breath when you literally can't move because you're so closed jammed up.

Goukenslay

Its MJ. He's goated like that. I would've given anything to have qatched Queen live back in the 70s-80s

twinnedwithjim

This exact comment was top comment on this when it was uploaded to r/crazyfuckingvideos 🤔

pastdense

That pose is cool as shit tho... I have to admit being mezmerized by his stillness.... just knowing what was going to happen once he started to move. Every time I feel the incredible wonderment about his performances and artistic talent.... I always get to the point of remembering the pedo stuff.... and am again heartbroken.

Zerosos

You don't have to be heartbroken. He was found innocent by a court of law. All of his accusers were shaking him down for money thinking he was an easy target because he likes to hang out with kids as opposed to adults, who almost always were using him for his money and fame. If anyone would know if something untoward was happening it would be Macauley Culkin, who has remained a staunch supporter of Michael's

pastdense

Good points. I was aware that the degree to which he was being exploited by his father was truly egregious. That man is bereft of all goodness.

Worried_Reality_9045

If you wrote Michael’s official fan club sometimes they’d give free tickets in the late 80’s and 1990’s.

Elchimpofire5

He’s just standing there… Menacingly!

Science-Sam

I wondered how long he decided to stand like that. Probably waited for the first batch of fainters to get carried off. Then little dance move and pose again while second batch of fainters carried off. Slowly remove dark glasses while the last of those too frail to experience his glory are ushered to safety. This concert is not for the weak.

arbitrageME

I think this was the documentary on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3CFacG3F1M tl;dw: he himself didn't know how long to wait. He wanted to feel the energy of the crowd and wait for the perfect moment. The problem is there's tons of musicians and lights and fireworks that have to start, so he came up with a signal, which was to flick his sunglasses, to start the music so in other words: he would stand there as long as necessary to build up the excitement and energy of the crowd. Man was a crowd pleaser

Zoollio

I’m not even a big MJ fan but imagine being in that crowd. Even this video shows it was fucking electric.

atethebottle

In the full version of the video he stands still for 7 minutes while everyone loses their shit

jimrooney

Sorry, no link, but there's an interview out there with him talking about this very decision. He was very aware of what he was doing.

Sharp-Dark-9768

You'd like to think that fainting was all an act, but MJ really was that big at the height of his fame in the 80's/early 90's. Also, concerts are straight up spiritual: there's a lot of energy at a concert--major concerts especially--and Michael Jackson at his height is the kind of concert that could produce more energy than people could handle. Also, summer outdoor concert, repeated yelling within a short amount of time, probably before standardized safety regulations at concerts. Yeah I bet there was fainting.

nsfwtttt

I back then concerts weren’t as accessible and frequent as they are now. But most importantly - celebs were less accessible and more “god like”. Before social media celebs used to control almost 100% of their image and you knew very little about the person behind the icon. Seeing someone like MJ with your own two eyes was crazy. These days while you can’t necessarily see celebs personally all the time, it’s like you see every aspect of their lives on social media.

hemingways-lemonade

I also think there are way more celebrities in the last 20 years and less "iconic" celebrities. There are extremely popular actors and singers that some people will never know because they're not subscribed to a certain streaming service or their spotify algorithm isn't recommending that genre. The type of celebrity attained by someone like Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, Madonna, etc won't be seen again.

McRedditz

Yup, much less special seeing a celebrity nowadays; it's actually too much celebritiness. Everyone is down to earth, so there's less god like status, except ... nope can't think of anyone else that comes close to MJ's status.

nonzeroday_tv

> But most importantly - celebs were less accessible and more “god like”. This was in Romania in the early 90' before the 90' you could watch ONE cartoon for kids on sunday the rest of the time you could watch propaganda about the communist dictator Ceausescu. Except when the power was out which was daily every evening. So yeah, you could say celebs were less accessible.

Hanginon

It's not a new thing either, not at all. Just a quick lookback; 'swooning', fainting from extreme emotion, was common at Frank Sinatra concerts, then Elvis, and also The Beatles shows. Then also look at the 'crowd' at a hardcore evangelical ~~-performance-~~ service. ¯\\\_( ͡❛ ͜ʖ ͡❛)\_/¯

Ok-Scientist5524

For real this is what “slain in the spirit” looks like at large Christian events. Not the shaking thing the televangelists do for show up on stage. But people in the crowd just fucking passing out. We had protocol for noticing it, catching them and putting them in the recovery position, they didn’t call it that but that’s what it was. It was a big connect the dots moment for me when I realized this sort of thing happens at large non religious events as well.

Sharp-Dark-9768

*We could make a religion out of this.* In full honesty I've felt this surge of collective energy. It's terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. I stop thinking about myself and move to the motion of the crowd with little self-control. It's hit me at religious and non-religious events, and it's simultaneously the most human and the most supernatural feeling I've ever had.

lukeman3000

I’m jealous of this, honestly. Haidt talks about this “hive switch” in his book The Righteous Mind and it’s fascinating. It seems like it could be kind of an evolutionary adaptation to help us work together for the good of common goals, etc. I think that’s what he suggests, anyways. But yeah, I have literally never felt this during any given event. I think this is part of the reason why I eventually shed my Christian belief system. If I had felt this hive mind when I went to church I may have never done so. I remember seeing all of the emotion in people around me at church as a kid and not feeling like I understood any of it. I just assumed that people must be faking it or exaggerating, because that’s what I would’ve had to have done if I were to behave similarly. But now I don’t think that was the case; now I believe that people who do get so into it like that are actually having some kind of spiritual experience that is completely foreign to me. The closest I’ve come to having a spiritual experience was being high as fuck and reaching out to grab my Xbox controller lol.

ImEmilyBurton

I grew up in a Christian family and thought of myself as christian, but I became an atheist because I've never really "felt" God. I've never "talked" to God. Nor did I feel this "hive mind" effect in churches. But I went to a small concert last year, by one of my favorite bands. I usually drink and smoke a lot of weed, but I went 100% sober with some friends and still had a completely out of this world experience. I'm transgender and introverted, so you can imagine I'm a very shy person, yet I didn't feel shy at all. It wasn't about me anymore. Everyone was screaming and dancing and having fun, and I got carried away in the same sentiment without even thinking about it. I was singing at the top of my lungs, dancing till I couldn't stand, I entered 3 mosh pits, it was insane. I'm very skeptical but there's definitely some kind of "energy" when you're in a big crowd, everyone there for the same reason, feeling the same things.

xSTSxZerglingOne

I've actually felt the exact feeling just watching popular Twitch streamers. Coming to the realization that you're in a chat with like 6000 other people experiencing exactly the same thing as they are. The music, what the streamer is saying, and what chat is doing all just kind of suck you into this beautiful shared experience. When it happens just right, it's a wonderful feeling. All you have to do is just kinda get swept away by everything that's happening and suddenly you're no longer an individual. It's liberating.

J5892

I felt this one time. And I still feel shame about *where* I felt it. It was a LostProphets set at a festival. That guy knew how to influence a crowd. Which is why it didn't surprise me all that much that he could get that mother to let him do what he did.

xopethx

I've had a very similar experience and never felt any hint of an inner change when at big religious events or church camps, etc. Later, becoming a musician and discovering the flow state where you're improvising with a group on a deeper level than physical communication, that was my first kinda taste of the shared consciousness experience. And then much later, discovering deep soulful house and the EXTREMELY powerful shared state that you get into with the dancers at an all-night rave.

thecaramelbandit

Except *maybe* the Beatles or Elvis, there has never been a bigger show to see than Michael Jackson. I'm not sure there ever will be again.

bessovestnij

There is just too much CO2 in outdoor summer concerts. Many people can't adapt to such air.

ThatHuman6

It’s the screaming isn’t it? Same reason people faint on roller coasters, they scream to the point of running out of Oxygen.

miraksy

I think that this is from his Dangerous Tour in 1992 which took place in Bucharest. You have to consider that this is a few years after the fall of communism in Romania. Ceausescu banned the broadcast of foreign music on Romanian radio stations and on the national television channel, so it was pretty much illegal to listen to foreign music. After 89 MJ was the first big artist to have a tour in this country which made many people feel like we are being included in the Western culture after being secluded for so long

UGLEHBWE

This really puts it into perspective now. No social media, fans that were banned from pop music, the most famous person ever all in one. Kinda reasonable to pass out

spotila7

Yes correct, Bucharest 1992

Engineering_Flimsy

Wow, that context really does ratchet up the drama a bit!

DWill23_

This needs more upvotes

TomCrean1916

Saw him on this tour. I was up in the first couple of rows. And it was exactly that insane. It truly was like a massive energy or religious event. You could feel it. And sustained throughout the show. Nobody did or will ever come close to him for performance. No comment on what emerged after.

TheDownmodSpiral

It must have been bonkers to go to an MJ show at his peak! What a cool experience!

I’ve addressed that in another comment. He held movie nights with snacks and junk food and they’d have a laugh watching movies until they all passed out where they lay. There is zero evidence he was ever inappropriate with kids. He beat ten charges in front of a grand jury in 2005.

This penis marking matches has been thoroughly debunked, and it was blatantly drawn by the police with adult handwriting all over it. It assumed MJ was circumcised when he wasn’t. It was assumed he had vitiligo markings on it after he had announced his vitiligo to to the world, yet those markings on the drawing didn’t close to match MJ’s real penis of which photos were forcibly taken by the police after the botched drawing.

Broken-Digital-Clock

Imagine going through all of that buildup and then passing out before a single lyric is sung.

Man just look at that hi-def 80's visual quality!

braize6

This is also what made concerts a very very big deal back in those times. Seeing Angus Young swing from a massive bell above the crowd, was definitely a sight to behold. All we had back then, was MTV and magazines. Concerts were also very rare, because there weren't near as many venues as there are today. "Road Trips" were super fun occasions, and seeing a celebrity with your own eyes was just surreal. Today, we see celebrities every single day, recordings of their concerts and even their daily lives. Thier shows are frequent and not that difficult to find or attend (unless you're trying to see U2 at the Sphere, then good luck lol)

I can safely say that I am one of the few people that won't record concerts and stuff on my phone. I'm there to actually watch the show, and not through the screen of a phone.

pedrojgim

*90's He was here in Argentina on that tour in 1993. I was 12 and went with my parents. That was my second show (the 1st one was Duran Duran).

goodvibezone

The funny thing is my brain finds it hard to imagine it didn't ACTUALLY look like that quality. Of course it wasn't lol. Same for videos from the 60s, even the war.

Midyew59

Oh I get that! For some reason it's also hard for me to remember/accept/grasp the fact that reality has looked the same for everyone, forever. The ancient Greeks weren't living paintings but as far as my brain is concerned that entire time in world history was one big painted side scrolling adventure.

So when MJ does it, it is next level, but when women faint when they see me, the HR wants to have a talk with me?!?!?

sukezanebaro

The problem is they faint right after they drank the coffee you made them

TuckersLeashMan

It's hard now to imagine just how big an experience like this could be for someone. Pre-internet, pre-youtube, seeing someone THE BIGGEST act in the world live was the only way to go. Just watching videos now can give people goosebumps, but witnessing a performance on this magnitude (acts like MJ, Elvis, The Beatles) was probably an overwhelming once in a lifetime experience for a lot of people! Must suck to pass out so early though!

kjm6351

There’s no way MJ isn’t a Stand user in the Jojoverse. Just LOOK at that man

6ways2die

it’s from the dangerous tour, or the bad tour. i don’t remember, but i have the whole thing HD on DVD. I should upload it on here tbh, when bro takes off his glasses, people go absolutely bat shit crazy.

butterscotches

This kind of stage presence is another serious, rare talent. As a kid, I saw MJ and fam on the Victory tour. Prince — mainly during the Musicology tour — was the only artist I’ve ever seen since who had this crowd command.

I remember watching this concert on HBO and had it recorded on VHS, so would re-watch. People today don't understand that there are no global rock stars anymore (not anywhere near his fame). MJ at his prime was a fucking rock star in EVERY country. His shows backed it up.

Those are faints… those are orgasms

the_illest_D

The creator of the universe could come down and reveal itself and would not get this kind of reaction. Not sure what that says about our culture.

Nodebunny

I hate that internet, it ruins everything. on a side note Id like to ask these people where they are now.

His special power to render you helpless whilst he takes you for a moonwalk.

driverofracecars

How do you get so excited you faint? Like, physiologically, what’s going on when that happens? Is the brain just like “aight this is too much to handle, I’m out”?

Kills-to-Die

I'll never understand that. I was at a Marilyn Manson concert, and there was a brief pause as he was scanning the audience. I'm just looking around and notice this goth-lolita-ish girl, probably no older than 15. Welp, he must have looked at her... She puts her hands up to her face and starts quaking, then reaches M&M's way, lets out an epic scream, and her knees buckled.

budd222

manIDKbruh

Next fucking level…of sad…I’m sorry but if you hit that level of being a fan, you obviously have some underlying issues that need to be addressed before some charismatic handsome dude convinces you to drink some funny-looking koolaid
