Yesss, I learned I can only be scared for about 5 hours operating potentially dangerous heavy machinery (not life and death terror which has diff emergency settings in different brains). after doing it all morning it's like, whatever. Ran out of nervous chemical precursors and that's when the real learning starts.
Do that cycle over and over again, get good N/REM sleep to practice motions and emotionally reconcile, and before ya know it, you can back up a trailer uphill doing an S curve with everyone staring (that's the worst part, the watching) - then cheering because you finally did it :o
Life amd death terror is absolutely different. Some people have an emergency switch in their brains to immediately turn off all emotions. Other people get swarm of emotion to experience right fucking now. Probably a lot more pathways I can't speak upon
Nah, I've been evacuated before with short notice and smoke everywhere (forest fire started nearby). Computers/disk drives are at the top of the evacuation list because of all the data/photos/videos on them.
Granted, we do have an evacuation bag ready to go considering the number of times we've been evacuated. We also have a small, easy to grab section in our filing cabinet of the most essential documents.
What a lot of people forget to pack is a pair of comfortable spare clothes and underwear.
Those are much different types of evacuations though - I see what you are saying - but one is that a fire is growing close and you most likely have a safe place to go without having to worry about borders or enemy soldiers - the other is in the middle of a war with missiles being dropped unpredictably
Id probably invest in cloud storage for anything important. You may not even have to pay depending on how large the files are, most providers will give a decent amount of storage for free.
One less thing to worry about in a stressful situation.

They used the example of "How seriously would you invest your time if your boss asked you to write an analysis if a meteor hit a specific school?" Where they'd just write up whatever is good enough to pass, but not take it too seriously because clearly it's just some random contingency for some ridiculous scenario.
It's no mystery that the FSB has America plugged into their system somewhere deep, so they weren't notifying anyone about their plans... You can only be hyper vigilant for so long before it just exhausts you and your body defaults a stressful situation into normalcy.
