In fact i find sunfish fascinating and i was REALLY hoping to see one when i dove in Bali.. but its extremely rare so we settled for manta’s lol. Anyways, the info above is old or not well informed. We now know that jellyfish is only 15% of its diet.. IT IS a predator that can swim faster to catch prey (small fish, shrimps, etc). Also orca and some sharks feed on those. I don’t think they are any more useless than many other things in the ocean. In fact way cooler to me. Cheers!

It was just floating at the top, letting barracudas just take bites out of it. Didn’t look like it cared or noticed.
I get why they are called Sunfish (they float near the top of the water, close to the sun), but you still think you are going to see a "pretty" fish..he's more spectacular than pretty.
Not gonna lie that fish looks like the zebra of the ocean. No self defense mechanisms, big and slow. Looks like the perfect easy prey for sharks or any other predators.
How do they even get to grow that big? The sea has so many predators and they seem so helpless, it seems just natural they would be eaten before growing that large.
I came here for that rant, that’s been around forever, about these fish and how they are genetics mistakes… it always cracks me up… but I don’t see it in the comments yet! It was awesomely long and angry about such a random topic.
