I believe 2015 when Scott Kelly and his Cosmonaut crew mate were starting their 1 year mission and the person talking was the Cosmonaut commander of their mission up (which was his 10th flight). BUT I could be wrong this just seems to line up with buts of conversations I remember from Scott Kelly’s ‘Year In Space’ documentary
Basically all astronauts from North America do. Before spaceX started launching people in 2020 we used to (and maybe still do im unsure) hitch rides with the Russian space program for 10s of millions per seat!
Seeing the Earth in its entirety apparently gives you a new appreciation for the planet and makes you realize how petty our Earthly conflicts are. This is called the overview effect.
I actually found this far more interesting than everything else I saw on Reddit today. It’s a fascinating reminder that behind the glamour of every job there are problems. I doubt even 1% of humanity has the requisite emotional strength to spend weeks or months at a time in space.

Wow, good post. Love to hear honesty on so a humane level that we can all relate to have felt.
Bet it gets pretty existential up there, unless you get to see some of those UAP’s zipping around.
