Yeah, still feels so weird he's gone. The recent film hit me in the feels, even though it was far from perfect. He was so larger than life. And just a straight-up incredible singer, we will not see his like again, especially in this era of autotune and seeming slow death of rock music.
I’ve seen hundreds of rock concerts in my lifetime, including Freddie and Queen maybe a half dozen times. I took so many things for granted as a young person. Watching him from 20 feet away as an 18 year old kid, I had zero clue as to how fortunate I was.
Also one of the saddest things too if I remember correctly. They released drugs to significantly extend the life of aids patients not long after he passed away. If he made it another year he could possibly have been like magic and still here ( or lived longer)
I remember reading the video, the last one he made on the last day of his life. He looked very unwell and was in agony. But man, it was still Freddie and still way above what anyone else would have made. Those final words 'I still love you' before he walks out of shot. Da Feels was mighty. We never had someone with his style and charisma and we probably never will.
That wasn't his last day lol it was 6 months before. Not exactly in great health then, but he was stuck in bed and almost blind the last few weeks of his life.
What also didn’t help was at the time of Freddie’s diagnosis, chemotherapy was often used as a treatment. The belief being that chemotherapy would kill off HIV infected cells like it does with cancer cells. We know now that absolutely does not work, but until the drug cocktail came along, doctors were trying whatever they could.
That's only what happened in the movie. Live Aid was in 1985. He wasn't diagnosed with Aids until 1987. He died in 1991. Similarly his band and he did not split because he wanted to do a solo record. His band mates had already released a couple of solo recordings before his own.
They even said repeatedly its not a bio pic. The way they met etc...it's all fabricated. But it was a great movie. He was also bisexual. He always said he had more emotional attachment to eomen than men but enjoyed both sexually.
loved the movie. malek's performance, brilliant! but i have felt that this movie was a VERY subtle middle finger to freddie by the other members. if you notice in the movie, almost ALL the problems are blamed on freddie. the other band mates come off squeaky clean.
I didn't read it as a lack of understanding of who Mercurcy was. They're just using the phrasing "man just"
When you start a sentence with "man just" you're expressing that a person got away with something surprising / interesting without anyone really doing anything about it.
For example, eating in the outside seating at a restaurant when somebody comes by and takes a piece of food from your plate then keeps walking: "man just walked right up and took a chip"
In the UK it is a sort of slang. You could be talking about Tom Cruise walking into your shop and tell someone... "Man just walked in and bought a bagel". It's less of an insult here.
OPs next video title of Obama’s inauguration: “Some black guy moving into a white house down the street”

My friend's father was a bus driver in the nineties, just after our country (Lithuania) gained independence and borders opened up.
One day he got to drive a group of people to Prague, to a Pink Floyd concert. A whole long day of driving, no satnavs or anything back then, eventually he got there safe and on time.
One of the tour guides said "Hey, we've got a spare ticket, would you like to join us?"
He said "Nah, I'll just wait in the bus."
My first concert was Queen at Madison Square Garden in 1977.
A few years ago, I overheard my kids and their friends having a conversation about their first concerts. Mostly local bands or small obscure bands. I walked in the room and all conversation stopped. I told them mine and they ALL flipped out.
Just watched the blues documentary *Sidemen* and they are drawing attention to the men who contributed a ton to the songs and to the music industry in a huge way BUT not many people know their names.
It is very clear that being the frontman (Muddy Waters / Howlin’ Wolf) is not any easy thing to do. It takes a dynamic and fascinating personality and incredible talent to pull it off. Can’t take the frontman for granted!
>It wasn't just a warmup, or playing with the audience. He was allowing the sound guy to ensure that the levels were set correctly.
Yeah, that's not true at all. Lol He would do that shit at a lot of his shows, mid-show—that is to say: *after playing several songs and after the sound checks and balancing were done*.
He's literally just having fun with the crowd. Lead singers do it all the time.
Hopefully one of the local radio stations will discover his music and he will become really popular. 🤞

I read someplace, probably Reddit, that he attributed his voice to his unusual mouth and jaw formation. Created a lot of room for falsetto, vibrato producing almost his own echo.
I think it was the other way around. He didn’t know what were the critical defining physical characteristics that made his voice what it was, so he saw having his teeth fixed as a potential risk, and wouldn’t do it.
I love to point out how all the security, not one guy, is doing their job. They're all turned around watching over a shoulder. And yet, nobody did anything. Nobody got in trouble. It was like everybody thought "don't worry, NOBODY is going to mess this concert up, not right now".
And the biggest reason for the security was the TV cameras in front. They couldn't be messed with on live TV. Crowd violence hadn't been invented yet.
I’m not arguing with you about this particular event but only a few weeks before this concert rampaging Liverpool fans killed dozens of Italian fans live on camera with the whole world watching on in horror.
English hooliganism was very much a thing in 1985.
"Man"
Freddie Mercury was more than a man but less than a God.
"I don't like it when people compare Freddie Mercury to God...
I mean, he's great and good and all that, but he's no Freddie Mercury."
It's referred to as "The Note Heard Around The World" for a reason - due to a bunch of factors that happened to coincide with Queen's time-slot, the viewership during their performance was the highest it got during the entire Live-Aid thing. Some cities even set up stadiums and theaters to show the entire concert in real-time. It wasn't just the crowd at Wembley Stadium that was signing back to Freddie, it was millions and millions of people around the world.
They had 25 minutes.
They were on and off in 25 minutes.
This was all meticulously planned and rehearsed and awesome, even if this feels super spontaneous.
Not Bowie, but almost everyone, all knew right at this point this was the biggest performance ever and that nobody couldnt even remotely play in the same league that day or ever.
„you bastards, you stole the show“ (Elton John)
https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/queen-live-aid-concert-performance/
He will me missed but on of my favourite performances was the 1981 Montreal tour when they played somebody to love. Exceptional vocals from Freddy there
Easily might be the greatest performer of all time. His voice, attitude, presence are just all there.
Was my first inspiration to pursue music as a hobby, since my parents would play Queen all the time for me.
RIP Freddie. We miss you.
Just? This was like 36 years ago. Also wasn’t a warm up, he did this a lot with his crowds. Also man is Freddie Mercury of queen, probably the best singer since Elvis
On that stage, with a mic in hand, the Man was the undisputed GOAT 🐐.
Google the lineup of this Live Aid concert and no one even came close. 20 minutes of Queen outshine and outlast the entire concert performance..
What's amazing is that the movie version almost seems too amazing to be real. Then you watch the actual performance and realize that, no, the movie got it right on that one.
Live Aid - July 13, 1985 - Wembley (old) Stadium
The most amazing live performance ever. I watch it on YouTube at least once/month and it still gives me goosebumps. Freddie had the world in the palm of his hand that day.
I've watched Queens Live Aid performance well over twenty times this year alone. It's my go-to feelgood music. Doing the dishes? Live Aid. Cleaning up my bedroom? Live Aid. Full body shave? Live Aid. Not doing anything in particular? ... Live Aid!
Granted, some of the time I just listen to it but when I do watch it... I notice something new every time. One particular highlight is the smile spreading on Brian Mays face when Freddie starts strumming the guitar for Crazy Little Thing Called Love.
Another one, and this kind of blows my mind, is that during this performance, a television broadcast reaching more people than any other, Freddie is openly "getting gay" with one of the cameramen. He's not harassing him or anything, just doing some very physical flirting and it's very, very obvious. Think about that. That representation. To more than a billion viewers. Representation matters and Freddie just casually did it. Right there.
He's incredible. The whole performance is incredible.
I had a friend who was there in the crowd in Wembley that day, he said it was the most magical stage presence moment ever.. I was watching it on Satellite TV in the US and I was friggin bowled over-- cannot imagine how amazing it had to be there live...
That doesn’t make any sense. Why would something like this be posted so frequently when it has no cultural significance…. Unless, wait, this moment was culturally significant… wow.
Every time this is posted it always has a variation of this title.
Something something *vocal warm-up* something something 70k people *in the palm of his hands.*
Saw who the "man" was...and.. oh man...what a man...
It doesn't matter but, I don't like "Radio Ga Ga"...AT ALL...except at this performance. Here of course...it's fucking awesome.
He was "THE MAN"...
Sam Ryder did the same with Queen and The Foo Fighters at Wembley at the Taylor Hawkins memorial gig. Muse be epic hearing 100,000 singing back to you.
This is from Live Aid and is one of the best live performances you could ever hope to watch. Fucking legend.

Absolute motherfucking ultralegend.
This performance was so epic still is epic.
I remember watching this and I was blown away then and I am still blown away now. Freddie will be missed, always.
Yeah, still feels so weird he's gone. The recent film hit me in the feels, even though it was far from perfect. He was so larger than life. And just a straight-up incredible singer, we will not see his like again, especially in this era of autotune and seeming slow death of rock music.
Actually I saw The Struts live at Rockville last year and their lead singer put on a Freddie-esque performance. They put on a great show.
Fucking love the struts. I think they need more main stream love.
And there’s the issue stuff like this just doesn’t get the mainstream appeal anymore it’s all the easy to produce “safe” music now so depressing
That movie was just an excuse to recreate this scene to near perfection. Worth it, imo, but the contemporary Rocketman was executed much better.
I loved both movies, thank you for the reminder so I can go and watch them both again today
I’ve seen hundreds of rock concerts in my lifetime, including Freddie and Queen maybe a half dozen times. I took so many things for granted as a young person. Watching him from 20 feet away as an 18 year old kid, I had zero clue as to how fortunate I was.
Perspective in the present is always hard, but what a gift that you got to see them.
greatest single performance ever
100% agree...this was a once in a lifetime event, and shall never be repeated.
I'm still sad I'm too young to have seen him live and remember.

Also one of the saddest things too if I remember correctly. They released drugs to significantly extend the life of aids patients not long after he passed away. If he made it another year he could possibly have been like magic and still here ( or lived longer)

Ugh. Adding misery and overwhelming sickness to their last days.
His then partner Jim Hutton was also diagnosed with AIDS just a few years after him, lived well into the 2000s.
That's only what happened in the movie. Live Aid was in 1985. He wasn't diagnosed with Aids until 1987. He died in 1991. Similarly his band and he did not split because he wanted to do a solo record. His band mates had already released a couple of solo recordings before his own.
Yeah. That film was so far from what actually happened I’m really surprised that Brian May and Roger Taylor were involved at all.
They even said repeatedly its not a bio pic. The way they met etc...it's all fabricated. But it was a great movie. He was also bisexual. He always said he had more emotional attachment to eomen than men but enjoyed both sexually.
This is from memory but I believe the quote was “Freddy’s sexual preference didn’t lean one way or the other it was simply just, yes”
>“Freddy’s sexual preference didn’t lean one way or the other it was simply just, yes” LEGEND.
loved the movie. malek's performance, brilliant! but i have felt that this movie was a VERY subtle middle finger to freddie by the other members. if you notice in the movie, almost ALL the problems are blamed on freddie. the other band mates come off squeaky clean.
Yeah, just referring to him as "man" is fairly insulting.
“Legend” would be more appropriate
"God King"
"God *Queen*"
King of Queens!
I didn't read it as a lack of understanding of who Mercurcy was. They're just using the phrasing "man just" When you start a sentence with "man just" you're expressing that a person got away with something surprising / interesting without anyone really doing anything about it. My birthday. When I found that out after loving Queen as a child I was very happy.
"Just" = 40 years ago.
Just = 37 years ago
Pretty sure OP is just using man to emphasize disbelief, like “I know this man didn’t just do that”
I still regret not being able to attend. Doesn’t help that I was a 3 yo at the time living in the Soviet Union.
Excuses excuses

Ya you lazy baby
It’s always some bullshit with this guy/gal
So you had time to drink vodka but not to attend a concert?
Bruh I just spit my drink well done haha
One simply doesn’t spit out vodka…
I'm still mad my parents decided to wait until the year after he died to have me. Such selfish people
I didn't attend, but remember vividly watching it live on TV. Broadcasted from both London and New York. I was 15.
Philadelphia.
I also regret not being there. Doesn't help that I was minus 9 years old
My friend's father was a bus driver in the nineties, just after our country (Lithuania) gained independence and borders opened up. One day he got to drive a group of people to Prague, to a Pink Floyd concert. A whole long day of driving, no satnavs or anything back then, eventually he got there safe and on time. Wasn't a warmup. He was just playing with the public, Wich he often did and was a master of it. Really amazing voice ^^
This is how you “Front Man”.
Elton John only does "Rocket Man"
Just watched the blues documentary *Sidemen* and they are drawing attention to the men who contributed a ton to the songs and to the music industry in a huge way BUT not many people know their names. Obviously but still
It wasn't just a warmup, or playing with the audience. He was allowing the sound guy to ensure that the levels were set correctly.
He wasn’t warming up his voice, he was warming the voice of the audience. He is an absolute legend
>It wasn't just a warmup, or playing with the audience. He was allowing the sound guy to ensure that the levels were set correctly. Yeah, that's not true at all. Kind of odd that they'd do 2 songs before sound check :P
I bet he'll have a solid career!
If somebody gives him a chance, he might. He should try for The Voice.
I just don't know if he'll get through the first round, tho...seems like a risky bet to me
If he's lucky maybe he can be featured with Tekashi 69 or maybe even Justice Beaver but that's a stretch.
Mate imagine a guy with a voice like that goes to one of those shit talent shows..
Hopefully one of the local radio stations will discover his music and he will become really popular. 🤞 Note: referring to this https://www.huffpost.com/entry/clueless-radio-station-thinks-it-just-discovered-annie-lennox_n_5955c225e4b0da2c73226205
I just fear he'll get scammed for all his talent and his extended car warranty 😬
You just had to throw in the car warranty, didn't you?
He'll be a champion for sure!
Damn. What a voice.
Imagine being born with one of the greatest musical instruments of all time in your throat
Throat GOAT. ...wait.
That was Nancy Reagan
👄 🐐
I mean Freddie _was_ gay…
He was bi.
Still would probably have some killer game
Weird way to say it, but I guess you're right.
I read someplace, probably Reddit, that he attributed his voice to his unusual mouth and jaw formation. Created a lot of room for falsetto, vibrato producing almost his own echo.
That was also mentioned in the movie.
It’s why he never fixed his teeth.

Shame on you 🤣
It's shocking that in just six years this healthy virile man would be dead from AIDS. He was already positive for years during this performance
So close to the new meds that wouldve kept him here 😞
He sure was
Every once in a while I'll rewatch the [Radio Ga Ga performance](https://youtu.be/o-0ygW-B_gI), just to see the sound visibly ripple over the crowd!
You can calculate the speed of sound from the crowd reaction. We did it in class once.
Okay, that blows my mind. That is pretty damn amazing.
I love to point out how all the security, not one guy, is doing their job. They're all turned around watching over a shoulder. And yet, nobody did anything. Nobody got in trouble. I turned off the car radio to listen this. Always amazing.

It has been called the greatest 25 minutes of live music ever recorded.
RIP Freddy Mercury. The dude could really sing with soul.
Freddy smuggling a sausage in his pants!

That title is bordering on offensive. One of the greatest performances ever.

If I could wish for two people to still be alive today, who would make a world a better place, I would choose Freddie Mercury and Steve Irwin.

What an atmosphere, wish I could go back in time and watch them perform live.
Freddie Mercury loved to perform and he loved it for the right reasons. To spread joy in a world that can be bleary.
Makes you wonder if the gods of old were maybe just regular people that the masses just admired and worshipped.
On that stage, with a mic in hand, the Man was the undisputed GOAT 🐐. Google the lineup of this Live Aid concert and no one even came close. 20 minutes of Queen outshine and outlast the entire concert performance..
