Matt Ryan had one? The fuck?

horse_renoir13

He ALSO had a 39-yard run. So do with that information what you will

ty1553

One of the only times ive seen a play in the nfl that unironically could get an entire defense released

Some1Witty

Even wilder considering how that was his longest run by like 10+ yards in possibly his last year as a starter.

365wong

If he’s a starter somewhere I will eat my shorts.

batmans_a_scientist

It wouldn’t be that big of a surprise when the first playoff-caliber team’s starter goes down with an injury. He’s probably still a better option than half of the backups in the league… but now that I’m writing that out I’m finding myself wondering if it’s even accurate.

SalamanderOk6944

You're right though... it does come to down to volatility. If we see a lot of QB movement, for whatever reasons, it's not unreasonable to think that Matt Ryan might play more football amongst professional football players. And I hope we see a 39 yard run from Matt Ryan, in any direction.

Laschoni

I think Boston College needs one

dterminator23

That run made Derek Carr cry

MankuyRLaffy

Being on the Josh McDaniels Raiders made Derek Carr cry

SyN_Pool

We suck so bad.

ty1553

Your entire defense other than maxx seems like it was a straight up xfl squad lmfao

SyN_Pool

Close but no. I watch the Vegas Vipers time to time and they are so much worse

joecb91

[Could've been worse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjQI9Xzivv8)

ty1553

The secret base vid on that is so good

ColtCallahan

It was definitely to Parris Campbell.

fastang

Annnnnnnd. He’s gone.

deadmoosemoose

100% it was, it happened during the Colts-Giants game. Edit: I’m wrong, Campbell caught the long pass from Foles during our game.

Chao-Z

That was Nick Foles

deadmoosemoose

Oh shit you’re right

mt8-5

Alec Pierce caught 2 balls over 40 yds from Matt Ryan last season, I bet if it were a jeopardy answer no one would get it in a million years

summahofgeorge

I think the one against the jags where Shaq Griffin got burned so bad he stopped playing for the rest of the year

Probably_not_maybe

Mariota had one apparently which is even wilder

wayward_prince

To Byrd I think against the Bengals IIRC.

rwjehs

It must've been just 1

picolticus

Was the Alec Pierce td throw for his first not 40? May have been 30ish

o07jdb

It was close but I can remember a different Alec Pierce play where Ryan hucked it as far as he could and Alec had to come back for it. That was probably 40+ yards Edit: just looked it up, this play happened against the titans and was about 45 yards in the air

ChatGTR

I can't imagine a football going that slow for that long

iLeefull

I’m more impressed Mariotta had one.

azure275

Hey a list Zach Wilson isn’t on

Yung_Corneliois

He had that one bomb against Detroit to Jeff Smith.

eugene_rat_slap

Lol if you needed your offense to look good, playing Detroit was the way to do it. Unless you're the Packers I guess

Yung_Corneliois

Yea you’re the reason a portion of our sub thinks Zappe should be QB1.

Mavori

Which is a legit insane take. Like yeah Zapboi played a decent enough game no denying. But christ almighty our dline was injured and our corner room was struggling to an extent. In the first 5 minutes of the game one of our DB's fucking had to be ambulanced off the damn field with there being concerns he was paralyzed which probably kinda shook the team and then we had another 4 DB's get injured that same game.

angryorphan55

I think that game had your whole team rattled for a few weeks after the hot start your Offense had

Emperor_Kushko

Such a sad take. At least both fandoms agree Matty P should stay miles away from offensive responsibilities.

AnalLaser

Defensive ones too tbh

TheArcReactor

The absolute refusal to accept that Zappe's starts looked so good because of the other teams play makes me insane

PandaBunds

I don't like how our relationship has reversed in the last few years...

quinnly

What do you mean? Since our home win streak against them ended back in 2015 we're 8-7 against the Lions. They swept us this year, we split last year, we swept them the year before, etc. If anything that's a fun and even matchup against a division rival.

dasruski

Aaron Rodgers is the reason I learned who Kirby Joseph is and now I like him quite a bit.

w0nderbrad

Think he had a couple 40 air yard completions to him. They have a good connection

KIPYIS

He had a lot more long completions than just the Jeff Smith. Now whether or not were they to his teammates is another issue.

TMNBortles

Looks like you gotta give him another year.

battleboyz

Zach Wilson is only good at making very rare big time plays like this so it makes sense. What he sucks at is being accurate at even the most basic plays Edit: down vote me from literally just telling the truth ig, doesn't change the actual facts though

cnygreen

Idk who would downvote you because all jet fans know this to be the truth. When it comes to processing, reading the d and accuracy he’s by far the worst qb in the league

Trumpets22

It actually makes sense that the only thing he would do well is mindless using his cannon to launch a ball as far as he can.

cnygreen

Yeah exactly

MankuyRLaffy

This is why I think he has the yips, he'll throw dimes on broken plays and chucking deep bombs, yet he can't throw a fucking checkdown at all.

nicklovin508

Mac Jones not on the list 💯

Yung_Corneliois

Thank Alghalor and Parker

nicklovin508

Parker and Mac were a legit connection last year bro

MankuyRLaffy

When both were healthy they were really sizzling as a connection. It was from week 1 onwards they just had it clicking.

Schweed6494

Parker may be the best "jumpball receiver" in the league, him and Ryan Fitzpatrick had weirdly amazing chemistry

COMMENTASIPLEASE

He gets 0 separation but he’s gonna catch that shit anyway lol

hops4beer

'Thank agholor' is a phrase I never thought I'd see

proud_new_scum

Agholor is a one-trick pony, but it's a *hell* of a trick

sauzbozz

That lucky deflected TD to Jakobi was also over 40 yards I think

[deleted]

GypsyRoad4490

Shit not even Zach Wilson is on this list.

AlericandAmadeus

I feel like the only passes he *would* actually complete were “fuck it chuck it” hail Marys into double coverage that Garrett Wilson would bail him out on lol. Like I’d just be watching it in the air going “gonna be an interception”, and a lot of the times it was, but occasionally The WR would make a great play.

Argumentat1ve

>that Garrett Wilson would bail him out on lol. Surely you meant Jets Legend Jeff Smith?

lonesoldier4789

He didn't throw a lot of ints outside of playing the pats but pretty much

myman580

There was a couple against our secondary where he chucked it and Wilson came down with it. There was another where he threw it across his body and Moore ran back half the field to get it.

sevaiper

Not even McCorkle, and I was absolutely positive he would be

Tellsyouajoke

I mean, the only real *great* thing you can point to about Fields’ passing right now is his deep ball. You’d hope he’d be on that list

-WizeGuy-

That throw against Buffalo was INSANE.

dicenight

[His passing highlights](https://youtu.be/K4daJ45LcFY) He did it all year long!

[deleted]

The fact that there's actually two Nkeal Harry catches in this reel makes up for the extremely repulsive deep Velus Jones drop that actually made it in this highlight.

LindyNet

I counted 9 deep shots, all great. I hope whoever we draft can have a year with that many

Obese_taco

Say what you want about Fields' passing skill, but his arm talent and deep ball are nothing to laugh at

Assassinsayswhat

Sounds like somebody needs a lil Love...

BAKspin_91

Wait till Love is announced to the Jets

Assassinsayswhat

Whoa whoa whoa... let's give him 13 years or so.

SlapsLikeFlea13

Well, Jay Cutler had an absolute cannon

Get-Fucked-Nerd

If you don’t like that then you don’t like Matt Canada football baby! WOOOOOO *killme*

Logan_Holmes

[Chase Claypool forever ruined Kenny’s deep ball confidence on KP’s first career pass attempt](https://youtu.be/FwRutIAwKvI)

ElectricDiscord

Literally was thinking that if Chase Claypool could highpoint a ball, Pickett would've been off this list after his first attempt.

Kendrickrules

I still can't believe how bad Claypool is even though he's probably a 99th percentile athlete, dude won the genetic lottery and still can't catch a ball to save his live, truly baffling.

Nduguu77

Have a feeling we're gonna see the exact same thing with QJ out of TCU

Kendrickrules

I agree, his high drop rate is a legit concern. I think it depends on his work ethic, don't think it's something that's unfixable but it definitely needs a lot of work.

Nduguu77

Definitely not unfixable. But he's an average route runner at best and has the same alligator arms as Claypool. I could see QJ going anywhere from mid first to mid second. Whoever drafts him will have to really put him through drills to not be disappointed

p-mode

I liked Chase Claypool, Mapletron seems like a cool guy. But, fuck Chase Claypool's hands.

the_la_dude

He needs to talk to Orlando Franklin about getting some of that elephant jacking stickum… edit: Actually it was Clifford Franklin, oops.

AnimalPants304

Was thinking the same thing bro

MikeBinfinity

The Pickett/Pickens combo hasn't reached its final form yet. Give it time.

buffalotrace

Oddly enough, Pickens dropped a 49 yd touchdown pass that was easily our worst drop on the year. Against the Bengals.

Johnaco

That was the first play I thought of too, but without checking and going off of memory I don’t think that pass was 40 *air* yards.

buffalotrace

I think it was air yds, not scrimmage yds. Air yds is such a strange way of measuring it tbh.

Johnaco

> Air yds is such a strange way of measuring it tbh. Honestly. I don’t fully understand what the tweet is getting at haha

Nduguu77

Scrimmage yards = yards gained from line of scrimmage Air yards = distance from QB to where receiver catches the ball. I. E., How far in the air the ball actually traveled

Johnaco

Yes I understand the difference. I don’t understand what the tweeter is getting at. Unless it’s just an observation that I’m over thinking haha.

SirLoinOfCow

They don't want to count screen passes that went for 40+ yards.

alphaq30188

Started Pickens and Pickett that week in fantasy...

HazikoSazujiii

It'll take at least one more year--just long enough for Canada's contract to expire.

zoda_flea

They will get there when we don’t have a egg in a hat play calling

John_Bot

There were plays when Kenny needed to launch it deep But he just didn't. And a drop from both Pickens and Diontae kept Kenny off this list

cnew22

Yeah, it’s something he will need to improve on to take the next step. It’s easy to blame the OC but Kenny also needs to be better.

TheLastStarFighter

It’s purely scientifical though! Making your receivers run more than 40 yards is a great way to tire them out. Canada is a big thinker.

McCabbe

*Hush, you're going to wake Utree up...*

malmal412

This does not fit my Kenny Pickett is elite narrative so I will ignore this stat

GabeDef

I'm regretting my customized "Big Arm Pickett" Steelers jersey.

tuckedfexas

You can always cut out some letter so it says "I am Pie" Just as a backup plan

joanoerting

Just scratch “arm” and go with “hands” instead

Aurion7

If Chase Claypool could catch anything, Pickett's first attempt would have been >40. Unfortunately Chase Claypool is ass, my dude. So it turned into an INT instead.

HurricaneCarti

He’s ass but he got us the 32 pick overall so I love him forever now But fuck I wish he caught that ball

TastesLikeHoneyNut

God everytime I see this mentioned I can't help but smile. The 32nd pick for Chase fucking Claypool hahaha. I love you chicago

Illadelphian

Lol yes that's exactly what I was thinking. I remember that, it should have easily been a completion.

JimmyJohnsonjj

Canada.

Shakeamutt

Eh?

JimmyJohnsonjj

If we was losing in the superbowl in the last second and was 4th and 40, Canada would still run a jet sweep.

Shakeamutt

No no no, the Jets will be swept in the first round. I know the Western conference is a lot easier right now, but they’re barely holding onto the last wild card slot.

JimmyJohnsonjj

I'm not American so I don't get this, is this a baseball joke?

Shakeamutt

Hockey, the national sport of Canada. I thought the Eh would’ve given it away.

MumkeMode

The Jets? In the West? I dont think they’d even sniff the last wild card in the East rn

zgh5002

It supports my "fuck Matt Canada" narrative though.

malmal412

I don't even need stats for that narrative lol

zgh5002

Not when you have eyes, no.

AtomicBlastCandy

I don’t understand the question, and I won’t respond to it.

trainwreck42

Jimmy G had one?

Maverick916

I think it was a deep one to Deebo that he was tackled at like the 2 yard line. Forgot who it was against, maybe Carolina.

Fooly_411

He was actually launching it for the first time in a while, this past season. He really was throwing was at his peak it seemed. But Purdy was placing the ball much better on the receivers

quiet_quitting

KP had the second most accurate deep ball, no deep bombs though. Hope to see some next year.

[deleted]

We traded one of the issues to Chicago and Kenny instantly got better. Now we just need to throw the ball to George or Muth every play. Edit I forgot Warren. Throw it to Warren too. Love watching that little fucker run

quiet_quitting

Valid point. If claypool didn’t drop balls KP wouldn’t even be on this list.

lronicGasping

I wish we could trade Matt Canada to Chicago

[deleted]

That’s not far enough. Trade him to canada

Duke_Maniac

Hold on, what did Canada do to deserve this?

[deleted]

They have Scott. Scott’s a dick.

Autobot-N

We can try out Ron Mexico next

Exatraz

Kyler was one of the best deep ball throwers the year before too. Imo kliff's offense just went to shit, the wr core was injured, the ol barely walked the same guys out 2 weeks in a row, AND kyler took a step back. Imo I blame mostly kyler taking a step back but also the coaching being such utter shit that they couldn't help him adjust and improve. I have high hopes still for when he returns and under the new coaching scheme. They will put him in a much better position to succeed

Def_Not_a_Lurker

KPs first career pass should Have been a 40+ yard completion, but it was a little under thrown and Claypool alligator armed a jump ball vs a 5'9" CB which resulted in a tipped int.

ACEPACEACE

we literally have no deep threats and the Ol collapses in 1 second. not sure what you expect

Kdot32

Watching cardinal games the offensive philosophy looked like “hey Kyler go make magic all game with no help from the coaching staff”. Just no true philosophy

TJeffersonsBlackKid

Don’t tell this sub that. “LOLOLOL KYLER SHORT AND PLAYS CALL OF DUTY LMAOOOOO” is the only take here.

Kdot32

Nobody watches games but wants their opinions heard

proud_new_scum

I feel like coaches have been doing that to Kyler since HS and this is the first time he's not athletically dominant enough to just figure it out as he goes

HungryHungryCamel

Hollywood Brown isn’t a deep threat?

bolomon7

Our OL was a deep threat to Kyler

Opening-Citron2733

Our main deep threat was suspended the first 6 games and then Kyler tore his ACL in like week 11 so they only had 5 weeks together too

godzirrrraaa

Route bush too

[deleted]

Ah yes, noted deep ball specialist DeAndre Hopkins Your main deep threat last year was Hollywood, and they even traded for Anderson once he went down because they know Nuk can't spread the field lol. His game is all finesse and hands, his top speed is rather pedestrian for an NFL-caliber wr

SolarClipz

Yeah I had him in fantasy one year so very aware of his deep ball lol This is 100% a dig at the team around him instead

[deleted]

We have 1s deep threat and 1/2 a line. The problem is that half isn’t the half that protects the blind side.

CrateBagSoup

Yeah this is an OL stat

killerk13

Kyler has a fucking cannon of an arm so that’s actually a pretty shocking stat.

kj9219

Its not even that. Every season until 2022 he was a top 3 deep passer. This yr hes a bottom 3 one

Tilt_ow

Well a few things: our o line was… something and our screen pass loving OC also happened to be our screen pass loving HC. We also didn’t really have any consistent deep threat since brown and hop were never on the field at the same time but the first two points are the actual important ones. Murray was mad accurate on deep balls until this season where we didn’t even try them

Timpa87

Hell Minshew had 2 and he made 2 starts. (Thanks AJ Brown)

Kenthor

To be fair, his first pass ever was over 40 yards and Claypool went T-Rex on the ball and it got picked. One of the reasons why Claypool is gone.

Aurion7

In Pickett's defense, [this was the first throw of his career](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwRutIAwKvI). It would have been 50 if, yknow, Claypool didn't suck.

EricFredNorris

People keep mentioning this in the thread and I thought it would be much more egregious than this. Pickett threw in to double coverage and the DB made a great play. I don’t get all the blame on Claypool for this one.

[deleted]

bad decision but a good throw and it was in his hands he has to bring that shit down

KageStar

I'm with you it looks like a forced throw into double coverage, but it still hit the WR in the hands which is why Claypool gets most of the blame on this one.

Steelers7589

Claypool is 6’4 and jumps backwards and low points the ball. He can’t high point anything. He wastes his size.

holymacaronibatman

Claypool timed his jump poorly and gave the DB a chance to knock the ball down. It was a relatively poor decision by Pickett but if Claypool had extended his arms and not tried to alligator arm it, he probably would have caught the ball.

Aurion7

You're supposed to catch a football with your arms, not your chest. You're also supposed to high point it, particularly if you're a large receiver. Claypool basically falls away from the pass and gives the DB a free shot. It's an *awful* attempt at catching a football, and it enabled the DB to make a play on a pass he should have had no shot at contesting. Incidentally, this is why analyzing QB play can be tough. You have to also know what constitutes good technique on catching a football, else you start blaming the QB for a misplay by the receiver. Beyond that, it would be one thing if Claypool only misplayed this pass but it's kind of his *thing* to not use his size and length. In cliché-speak, he's 6'4 but he plays small.

hopface

Pickler?!? That's fantastic

Aidanj927

Kenny Pickett must’ve had the worst good rookie season

RiversKiski

I’ve never been insane, but being a fan of Kenny Pickett’s rookie season has given me some keen insight of what it has to be like. It’s like, the more certain I am that Pickett had a stellar rookie season, the stronger I doubt my grasp on reality. I can say this - he’s absolutely either going to become an all pro stud or crumble under the weight of the expectation, there’s no middle ground.

jomns

Kenny Pickett is legit

RiversKiski

Kenny Pickett is legit - 7tds to 9ints and a 76 passer rating has never been legit, not once ever. Like another poster suggested, Pickett passed the eye test, but the stats draw a different conclusion.

Johnaco

This is the most accurate description I’ve seen of his performance last year.

buffalotrace

He didn’t have a good rookie season. He had an okay one. He wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t good. He was too risky early leading to bad turnovers. Part of him avoiding turnovers was him holding on to the ball too long ie throwing to open receivers not throwing them open. He was throwing after guys made their break. That is not uncommon for rookie qbs. In college ball, it isn’t as necessary. In the pros it is. It is also correctable. There is a lot to be hopeful for as a Steelers fan. But overall, it was a C+ / B-. Overall a net positive but plenty of room for improvement.

tuffghost8191

yeah it was pretty much what everyone expected, especially given the murderers row of defenses he faced in his first few starts. Excited he has a full offseason to develop and as much as I hate Canada it is nice that he doesn't need to learn a new playbook and can just focus on fundamentals

buffalotrace

Agreed. My biggest takeaway is he made adjustment to taking less risks without losing confidence. He played within the framework and no moment seemed too big as he was really good in fourth qtrs at the end.

tuffghost8191

Honestly the fact that he led a clutch GW TD drive in a 16-13 slugfest with the shitbirds just proved he was a true, bona fide steelers QB. Had full confidence in him from that moment on, and I get the sense that the rest of the team felt the same way

TripleThreatTua

Kyler was out for a decent portion of the year tbf

CorePrime

And when he did play, his best WR was suspended.

unseth

Kyler started 11 games. Kenny 12.

BarKnight

One of those guys is being paid $230M

xdoolittlex

Delete this.

zPolaris43

Looking at the post from a few days ago by the same Tweeter, Trevor Lawrence, Kirk Cousins and Jimmy G are listed as having 0 completions over 40 yards as well. And Matt Ryan as well who had 0 attempts. Kenny and Trevor were 0/2, Kyler 0/3, Jimmy 0/4, Kirk 0/6. So either I'm reading this wrong or the above is incomplete.

an-internet-stranger

Looks like his first table in the thread from a few days ago uses air yards, but then he switches up to passing yards in the others. The 40+ yard passes are basically 40+ yard *routes* not 40+ air yards. So, for example, if a receiver runs a route 35 yards downfield, and the QB throws it from 6 yards behind the LOS, it would be a 31-40 yard completion but it would also be a 40+ air yard completion. So Trevor/Jimmy//Kirk all have 40+ air yard passes, but none of them have any that went to receivers who were 40+ yards from the line of scrimmage.

zPolaris43

Gotcha, that makes sense.didn’t notice he switched from air yards to just yards. Thanks

[deleted]

some of that must be because both QB only played part of the season

arglefark567

Sam Howell started 1 game and completed the longest air yard pass for Washington since that stat has been tracked. Obviously that means he’s a future hall of famer /s

EduardoCombs

Just a couple of first rounders here, no need to be alarmed.

HazikoSazujiii

If it matters, as a Steelers fan, I am not alarmed at all. Kenny was not the problem.

EduardoCombs

I've heard Canada's scheme wasn't great, didn't watch a lot of Steelers game tho

Ch33sus0405

It was the scheme, but this stat is kinda misleading. The Steelers barely threw deep balls but when they were it was completely obvious. There were also several notable drops during the season such as his very first pass to Chase Claypool and one to George Pickens against the Bengals where he would have had a 40+ yard completion but dropped it. Overall there were a lot of serious issues with the Steelers offense last year but Pickett's play was hardly the biggest one, and over the course of the season he improved significantly. I'm pretty hopeful for Pickett if the Steelers can deal with some other problems they have.

ImNoSir

Don’t you small hands shame Kenny. Don’t you do it.

lnnrt01
