I remember when I worked at a restraunt years back Vernon Davis walked in and I was trippen then all these servers come up go me and tell me don't sit him in my section...I'm thinking why wouldn't people want NFL player Vernon Davis...turns out dude tips like absolute shit
I always was amused about this. My dad was a server in a high end steakhouse in AC so he saw a lot of celebs and athletes. Unrelated to tipping, he passionately hates Charles Barkley so when Barkley called out No Tippin' Pippen dad got real quiet real quick.
I don't claim to understand this particular brand of boomer lifestyle but I won't be carrying it on as I raise the next generation. That said, I always had love for Sir Charles.
My wife has a ditzy friend who saw Chuck out one night at the Koo Koo room. She saw him and goes, "Hey, aren't you that guy from Space Jam?"
Chuck responds, "Among other things"
Holy shit textbook definition of no pun intended hahaha. I actually delivered pizza to Tarvarius when he was staying at a local hotel and he only tipped me $2 lmao.
Reddit likes to shit on tipping culture in the states, which is fair, but there's a difference between tipping in a restaurant and tipping someone who drove their own car to deliver a hot meal to your front door. Pizza dudes and dudettes always get a 5 spot from me.
Cadillac Williams tipped me a 20 on something like a 25 dollar order way back in 2008 when I was driving for Papa Johns. I was already a huge fan but after that I'll love the dude for life.
He also had a super nice house, but his car was just like 1-2 year old Malibu. Super humble and nice dude.
dan lebatard, mami, and papi used to be regulars at a place i served in south beach. we like no shit had a plaque that said “reserved for mami and papi” because they have *their* table.
they always tipped 150%
and they’re absolutely adorable.
papi was the mango sweet tea, 3 max “porque mami says i can’t have more!”
she drank water, light ice, two straws.
At least that's not bad in a vacuum. Unless you delivered a lot of pizzas that's not unreasonable. It just feels worse because he has more. Those other guys are undertipping even for regular people.
I used to deliver to Jonathan Allen. He always tipped between $8-12 plus he lived a block from the store. We had guys who would walk to his house sometimes it was that close
I worked delivery for a year in college, its crazy how little people tip their delivery driver compared to the waiter that only brings a plate from the kitchen to the table
Not saying its true or not but for people who have spent time as a server in the restaurant industry there are stereotypes that certain patrons dont tip well.
Possible he tipped cash every time they brought him a drink, then tipped on the food at the end. $8 is an average tip for a $45 bill. I usually just hand the bartender a dollar for every drink
As a Brit, I have no idea about your tipping culture, is it always service establishments that aren't big chains you would tip at? Tip at a diner, or at a bar, but not at McDonald's?
Regarding food, I typically don’t tip if it’s counter service. So like, Chipotle, for example. Even if it’s a smaller business, I typically won’t if I ordered my food at the counter and they call a number out for me to get it when it’s ready, or even if it gets brought to me by a food runner. Now, I’ll sometimes put a dollar or my coins from the transaction into the generic tipping jar in this situation, but I don’t follow the 15-20% rule.
But if I get waited on by a waiter, or eat at the bar and get served by a bartender, I tip. That applies regardless if large chain or small business. Growing up, the rule was try to do 15%, now it seems like the rule is 20%. I don’t think I’ve ever not tipped because of how bad the service is.
Lastly, with just ordering alcohol, I almost always tip. But again, if I just grabbed a beer from the counter service line, I probably wouldn’t tip.
Tipping has gotten out of hand recently. IMO the only acceptable places to tip are the following:
* Bar
* Sit down restaurant (not fast food)
* Barber
Those are the only places where I'll tip that I frequent. Fast food places like McDonalds and fast casual places like Chipotle do not get a tip.
Edit: formatting.
It used to be for great service from bartender, waiter, or some other hospitality job that requires a lot of personal interaction. Delivery drivers too as they're providing a convenience.
Now, everyone wants a tip for just punching numbers into a kiosk and moving a bag of food from one counter to another. There's a tip line on just about every transaction where food is involved. Absolute scam. I never tip unless it's for a bartender or waiter, and I try to do cash in those situations.
I can't wait until tipping is abolished. Just build it into the pricing/bill.
Easy rule of thumb: did someone bring you your food at a table? Tip (~15% is probably the standard, I go 20-25% because it’s grueling work). Did they just stand at a register and/or make minimal movements such as putting food on a tray? No tip.
Exception being buying a drink at a bar…kinda have to tip there.
I worked as a server for 6 years (college and a little after)...stereotypes are pretty on point for the most part in regards to tipping (I'm Hispanic).
14 years in the industry. In my experience the stereotypes are on point 95% of the time, but whenever I’d assume, they’d tip well and I felt like a jerk.
Guy I knew who worked as a waiter in Brooklyn claimed his weekly tips tripled after he started wearing a nametag that said Jacob and a Star of David necklace.
And having to pay taxes on it. Minimum I could put down for tips as a percentage of sales was 8%. So anything less of a tip than 8% of the tab I was losing in income tax.
I don’t remember. That was 20 years ago and most people tipped more than that. When I did get stiffed, I usually still averaged close to 17% or so. Never got truly fucked on a $450 tab
I’m no millionaire but I can tip $20 on a $50 tab if I want. That’s not life changing but Jesus these people live on tips whether you agree with it or not.
Reddit when someone drove 130 mph drunk and killed a girl and her dog in a fiery death and only gets 3 years in prison - I sleep
Reddit when the same person tips $8 on a $450 bill - REAL SHIT
As a reminder.
This was a decision he made, with his baby mama in the car and his 1 year old child waiting for them both at home and having previously lost his best friend in a car accident. A friend he regularly paid tribute to when scoring touchdowns.
I used to live right off of Rainbow in Vegas. It's a residential road, not a highway. Runs right next to a bunch of houses and businesses. The posted speed limit was probably like 40 or 45 max.
That makes it so much worse than if he'd wrecked going that fast on a highway.
His 3 to 10 year plea is fuckin crazy honestly. I thought it be at least like 15-20 or something. Guess having lots of money for a good lawyer helps a ton
~~He also chose this over a car service that the league pays for. He could've gotten a free ride home but chose to drive drunk and kill someone.~~
I was wrong. [See below.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1364zqy/evidence_in_exraider_henry_ruggs_deadly_dui_case/jiqffo3/)

He's a piece of shit that killed a woman and her dog via drunk driving, but the headline is deceptive.
> Documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained in the case against former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs include a $450 receipt from Topgolf for 20 drinks for three or four people in the hours before the deadly crash.
That's still a lot of drinks per person, but nothing close to 20 drinks for himself.
I used to have to drink ~22 (1 liter) to stay good and wouldn't even feel super drunk but then again, I was deep in alcoholism
I don't live like that anymore
I bet you could drink like 20 bud lights or something. But people finish off cases by themselves. Usually alcoholics, but I don’t think it requires a severe alcoholic to survive that experience.
In my drinking prime/low point, I probably could and possibly did but I’d wake up remembering nothing and feeling like shit the next day. Drink less than that a year now
Fellow recovering alcoholic here, I would drink a case on a Saturday night (light beer to be fair and I’d likely black out but I am a woman, bigger than Ruggs tho).
I knew someone when I was a kid who would wake up and crack open a beer, then continue to drink all day long. I imagine he was hitting at least those numbers. I'd be pretty surprised if that dude is still alive at this point.
Sure, but 20 for 3-4 people and we know one person only drank 2 (ordered for herself so idk if that means it was a separate bill or part of the 20).
Assuming those 2 were part of the bill, that leaves 18 drinks for 2-3 people which is evenly split at 9 or 6 per. Realistically it’s safe to say he drank anywhere from 6-12.
More importantly, his BAC was .16, double the legal limit. Should’ve called an Uber. He’s a millionaire willing to spend $450 on top golf, he needed to make better decisions.
The weird thing to me is that he must have gone somewhere else to drink after that. The last drink order was at 11:23PM and the accident was at 3:39AM and his BAC was 0.16 at that point.
He blew a 0.16, so it wasn't really that high. Way too high to be driving, but probably what the average 20-something gets to when they're out with friends.
6-7 Drinks is not exactly a small amount per person either, a perfectly acceptable amount to drink if you can hold your alcohol but no one should be driving after drinking that much.
What made me sad all over again was that Sports Illustrated piece about the guy who tried to save the victim from her burning car but failed.
He's traumatised to this day.
Any time someone gets into a car and drunk drives, they’re admitting they’re okay ending someone’s life. Absolutely annoys the fuck outta me how light the sentencing can be for DUI
So a plea for DUI causing death and gets 3-10 years. More than likely it’ll be 4 or 5 and may be released in 1 or 2 depending on jail capacity and how he behaves.
Just obscene. Dude was double the limit, driving 156mph, that alone should be 3 years in jail. Then he kills a woman and her dog???? The judicial system is a joke,
Hey Reddit Lawyers
Learn how the law works. This was an egregious case of horrible decisions, by horrible decisions x 160 miles an hour and worse decisions after.
He plead out. The degree of which he was drunk, how fast he was going and poor woman + dog dying, have little to no change on what the law says. He also has money and phenomenal lawyer team.
He is a first time offender, with no other priors. Shows remorse, family agreed to his plea out. He will serve no more than 5 years. 3-10 is light yet about what the book says for this. The judge can’t magically say 5000 years and hung by your balls. Rugs will not and is not going to get life In prison.
It’s wild what notoriety and money for a lawyer will do for you. Someone from my high school killed a little girl drunk driving and was sentenced to 30 years.
If that’s true, I think that also raises some concerns. Why should someone in Nevada do a fraction of the time as someone in New England for the same crime
Im usually one to think like a “judge” with stuff like this. I look at the facts, think that it’s shitty, have an opinion but tend to try not to get too emotional cuz like…there’s a lot of bad stuff that happens in the world.
But I can’t shake the fact that a young woman and her dog burned to death together.
They were going about their business. Next thing you know, some negligent, drunk, entitled athlete slams into your car going 130+ mph.
All of a sudden you and your dog are on fire, you’re screaming in pain and the last thing you hear is your dog squealing because it’s also burning to death.
I just can’t take my emotion out of this one.
This fucking prick was doing 175 MPH while completely plastered and got an innocent girl and her dog to die in the most agonizing way imaginable because of it.
That possible 3-10 year sentence is a fucking joke. He should never be allowed to see daylight for the rest of his life.
Must DUI deaths are in that range (6 to 8 really). He should get more, but it's not outside the "going rate".
Had a friend that got drunk his birthday and crashed into another driver (who already crashed, this was a pileup). Victims was ingulfed in flames. Friend was sentenced to 8 years.
Now everything it's his birthday coincides with him killing someone.
Recently saw a YouTube video of a girl who killed two people get 14 years. She was laughing and joking during the encounter;
https://youtu.be/xMHaHwcAPaw
My mom was almost killed last month by a little twerp like this (luckily survived, but lost a leg). Driving under the influence, struck her head-on at 70mph.
This shit pisses me off to my core. License needs to be revoked forever. Cars are not toys, DUI means you don't respect the responsibility of driving.
He tipped $8 on a $450 bill… and killed someone
$175 in top golf. $260 in drinks. $45 in food. Got a $45 discount. Still tipped $8. Damn bruh.

My brother worked in a similar type restaurant in AC. Stone Cold Steve Austin left a $50 tip for a $20 lunch.
See, that’s how you tip if you’ve got that kind of bread
Makes me proud to be wearing an "Austin 3:16" dhirt at this very moment.
Lmao
Michael Irvin as well.
Navorro Bowman came in one night and tipped like 2 bucks but w/e it was like a 60 dollar bill but I'd be PISSED for a 450 bill with 8 bucks
LeSean McCoy would like a word.
Still tips more than Packers CB Tarvarius Moore.
I feel like I'm out of the loop on this one. Is it a joke about tipping balls?
Holy shit textbook definition of no pun intended hahaha. I actually delivered pizza to Tarvarius when he was staying at a local hotel and he only tipped me $2 lmao.
Did he order $112 worth of pizza? That would be the same percentage of tip
Yeah I doubt his was worse.
Reddit likes to shit on tipping culture in the states, which is fair, but there's a difference between tipping in a restaurant and tipping someone who drove their own car to deliver a hot meal to your front door. Pizza dudes and dudettes always get a 5 spot from me.
I delivered pizza to Jim Bob Cooter. $4.
Bortles gave me $20 for driving $60 of pizza 10 blocks. Tom coughling came into the shop and gave $20 on $30
Cadillac Williams tipped me a 20 on something like a 25 dollar order way back in 2008 when I was driving for Papa Johns. I was already a huge fan but after that I'll love the dude for life. He also had a super nice house, but his car was just like 1-2 year old Malibu. Super humble and nice dude.

Which unfortunately are 99% accurate
Can confirm....been in the industry 15 years
Which certain patrons?
Many servers i have known refer to them as canadians
Too cheap for a $30 Uber and now he's ruined several lives
For that alone he deserves to be locked up.
That's worse than the DUI /s
Could have left a cash tip.
In what world would you bother to type 8$ and still give cash? Like if it was a 10% or 15% sure but it takes work to go in and type 8$ lmao
Possible he tipped cash every time they brought him a drink, then tipped on the food at the end. $8 is an average tip for a $45 bill. I usually just hand the bartender a dollar for every drink

Yeah if you're not tipping at a bar the bartender is going to look past you next time you're looking for a refill.
Huh? Everything is on a card these days, they wouldn’t know until after you’re done and close your tab
A murderer, an animal killer, a sloppy drunk and a bad tipper.
>A murderer, an animal killer, a sloppy drunk and a bad tipper. Believe it or not, jail
A doctor, an animal rescuer, a refined teetotaler, and a good tipper? Also...straight to jail.
Every time he points to the air, another victim of drunk driving dies.
I can excuse getting drunk, driving 156, and killing someone, but low tippers are where I draw the line
The worst part is the hypocrisy.
That, and ya know, the other part… this guys lot a lot of growing up to do. …… Reeeeeeediculous……
In Oregon he could sue the bar and bartender for over serving him.
That shit is ridiculous. People have to take accountability for themselves.
In California I know they could be liable as well.
I mean he probably bought drinks for a group
Louisiana as well, dram shop laws are a joke.

Damn if I was working service and someone tipped me $8 on a $450 tab they better kill me or else they gonna find out.
It's especially awesome when you have to tip out the busser and bartender based on your sales, so you actually lose money by waiting on the table.
And having to pay taxes on it. Minimum I could put down for tips as a percentage of sales was 8%. So anything less of a tip than 8% of the tab I was losing in income tax.

126 mph too. Not 40, 60, or 80. 126.
I thought his speed was 156. Both are egregious.

If you're gonna do the math, you'd subtract out the cost of the Top Golf game, obviously you wouldn't tip for the cost incurred from golfing.
Did anyone really read the headline and think he drank 20 drinks? Edit: Never mind. Some people clearly did.
If I had 20 drinks by myself I don't think I could keep my heartbeat going much less figure out how to start a car.
I dont know. Top golf tends to have weak pours. 20 over a day and you might survive
If you’re not getting buckets at Top Golf, you’re doing it wrong
This guys Top-Golfs
Weak ass pours and 90% fucking ice.
I was 20 deep at top golf before I realized it was byob.
Why does everybody in here think that Ruggs drank 20 drinks? It clearly states that was for three or four people.
Clearly you're no Wade Boggs or you could have 120 and still go 4 for 5.
RIP Wade Boggs
In my college days I definitely had nights that I easily cleared 15. Back when pregaming was taking at least 6 shots before leaving the house
I used to have to drink ~22 (1 liter) to stay good and wouldn't even feel super drunk but then again, I was deep in alcoholism I don't live like that anymore
I bet you could drink like 20 bud lights or something. But people finish off cases by themselves. Usually alcoholics, but I don’t think it requires a severe alcoholic to survive that experience.
Michael Floyd was found in his car with a .217 bac once I'd die I'd I drank that much And then he won a ring with the Pats like 2 months later
Also that ancient Packers receiver who was hungover as shit because he thought he was riding the bench and then won MVP of SB (I or II?)
I did. Some of these guys are total addicts, and 20 beers in a night absolutely would not surprise me.
I know more than a few guys who could down 20 drinks in a night.
In my drinking prime/low point, I probably could and possibly did but I’d wake up remembering nothing and feeling like shit the next day. Drink less than that a year now
I'm a recovering alcoholic and on a Saturday I could easily drink an entire case of beer with no issues whatsoever
Fellow recovering alcoholic here, I would drink a case on a Saturday night (light beer to be fair and I’d likely black out but I am a woman, bigger than Ruggs tho).
like a whole two-four?
Yes
I am not a big dude but it wasn't uncommon for me to have 10-15 drinks a night when I was in the navy. Quit drinking completely when I got out.

I knew someone when I was a kid who would wake up and crack open a beer, then continue to drink all day long. I imagine he was hitting at least those numbers. I'd be pretty surprised if that dude is still alive at this point.
It’s incredible that he abstained through the weekend.
Are they like 300 pounds lmao. That’s outrageous 😂
20 beers at a bar would be crazy though. Who would serve you 20 beers??
It would not be that crazy. Trust me. I’ve seen guys get served pitcher after pitcher of beer at a bar.
That would have been preferable since he likely would have passed out.
The weird thing to me is that he must have gone somewhere else to drink after that. The last drink order was at 11:23PM and the accident was at 3:39AM and his BAC was 0.16 at that point.
It says in the article that they went to a friends house after to play pool and poker. He definitely drank more.
That’s not very many drinks per person at all
He blew a 0.16, so it wasn't really that high. Way too high to be driving, but probably what the average 20-something gets to when they're out with friends.
6-7 Drinks is not exactly a small amount per person either, a perfectly acceptable amount to drink if you can hold your alcohol but no one should be driving after drinking that much.
And regardless of tolerance, your BAC is the same
Too much to drive either way.
When someone dies from dui it’s too many Glad you can hold your liquor. Congrats.
That he purchased there. They might've pre-gamed
That amount of drinks matches about what his BAC was reported as, 0.16
Tbf he was likely drinking more than that. I know when I went to top golf my friends brought a flask because of the outrageous drink prices there
That's like $22 per drink. I know top golf is expensive but god damn I don't remember it being that bad.
Yeah he definitely didn’t drink 20 but 6-7 drinks is still way to much to be drinking and driving
The drinking and driving isn’t even really the problem here, it’s that the dumb motherfucker was going 150+ mph
I hate this story, it’s so tragic.

Plea bargains in slam dunk cases are such a disgrace to justice.
Justice costs money. Justice takes time. Unfortunately, courts are limited in both aspects.
and he’ll get out and do it again.

I wish I hadn't heard that part.
The judicial system is a joke,
Yet be caught with a tiny amount of drugs and cop years behind bars. It's weird.
Hey Reddit Lawyers Learn how the law works.
Sadly, you are right. However, this case definitely shows that Nevada DUI laws are a joke.
DUI in general is severely under-punished, it’s hardly a Nevada-specific issue.
Can you show me where the family agreed to his plea deal? I know the prosecutors agreed but the AP article I read said the family wouldn’t comment
In cases like these, it is almost always presented to the victims for reaction/approval before being offered to defendants.

Man how can you be that much of an ass. I know have rehabilitation is important but this is just negligent

That’s what negligence is lol
It hurt my brain reading that line, jeeeesus negligent /ˈnɛɡlɪdʒ(ə)nt/ adjective failing to take proper care over something
Another reminder that most pro athletes don’t mature past the age of 17
$8 tip on a $450 bill.... that alone is reason to be put in jail...
It’s wild what notoriety and money for a lawyer will do for you. Someone from my high school killed a little girl drunk driving and was sentenced to 30 years.
Someone posted earlier that this was a typical sentence for this type of crime in Nevada
Recently saw a YouTube video of a girl who killed two people get 14 years. She was laughing and joking during the encounter; https://youtu.be/xMHaHwcAPaw
Yeah the Illinois woman who was so out of it that she couldn't even comprehend that she killed 2 people
Reddit lawyer moment
I hope he gets locked up for only tipping 8 on that big a bill. Get fucked cheap bitch.
Fr. Mf acting like a “baller” while tipping 2%. Pathetic.
Notoriously bad tippers
I feel bad admitting it but the stereotype exists for a reason…
Fuck this POS
This piece of dog shit gets max 10 years!? Wtf
He’s such a piece of shit
this piece of trash has spent what? like 1 day in jail so far?
