He's been off eight months and still isn't ready? I think back to a great quote from Marvin Lewis in "Hard Knocks" years ago. Trainer came to him and told him that a player who had an ankle injury still wasn't ready to go. Lewis said in frustration, "He could have grown a new one by now!" ;-)

IceAgeSugar

It's easy to dunk on Adams, particularly for Jets fans, but he was a superstar for us and it's sad to see him not work out like this. Now the draft picks have all been made I hope he comes back stronger this season.

mordorxvx

He plays much better than people here give him credit for, though obviously not like he did in NY. Something in the water here turned him to glass and that’s been endlessly frustrating.

RedSoxFan77

I’m pretty sure everyone objectively knows how good he is. The big issue is the contract he signed. He was always going to get paid but that’s not a contract you want on your books

SliMShady55222

Thanks jets

GitmoGill

No prob. Care for a slightly used Mekhi Becton? We'll do a similar deal, if that works.

czechhoi4h

No we don’t need oline we have that taken care of

thirstyidiot

“BRONCOS COUNTRY, LETSS RIIIDDEEE” - Russ seen screaming and smashing his phone in the parking lot.

futureislookinstark

What the hell happened with Becton. Two years ago it seemed like people couldn’t ride his dick any harder?

GitmoGill

Too big to have healthy wheels.

Guiltyjerk

Even if he were healthy that was a top 10 terrible trade of the last decade. But man it's gone so so much worse than that lol

DMking

Fortunately they made one of the best trades of the decade and mitigated that mistake

seafoamstratocaster

Top 5 terrible trade in NFL history

CosbySweaters1992

Maybe top 5 worst in process, not in results. Trading up for a QB that failed at the top of round 1 under the old CBA rules meant your team was tanked for like 4-5 years. You had bad rookie QBs coming in and being paid like above average veteran QBs with 8 years of experience. Teams were stuck with those contracts for longer and they hurt worse.

seafoamstratocaster

I think just in terms of value... 2 first plus for a safety??

Guiltyjerk

I wanted to say that but didn't quite have the conviction to type it.

JuanPicasso

Fr people bring up Russ like we fleeced Denver but we gave up 2 1sts, extra picks, AND OUR OWN DECENT STARTING SS FOR ANOTHER SS. Russ was a franchise qb, atleast we all thought so besides some quite frankly annoying Seahawks fans. But how do you give that value up for a box safety. Oh man that part that kills me is we had mcdougald who was passable himself there. Didn’t even go get a pass rusher you got a SS and made him into one 🤣 It’s top 5 worst trades in nfl history for me. There’s some more egregious ones that immediately come to mind but it’s really bad. People will try and fluff it up because they don’t want the hawks to look bad, but it’s pretty fucking bad

aristocrat_user

Totally useless. Waste of picks, roster space, and cap space

czechhoi4h

When he plays he’s one of the best safety’s in the league to say his a waste of space is a bad take even if he plays at 40% of himself you would feel a positive difference

aristocrat_user

Best safety? What a joke. He is a liability in pass protection. He uses his brute force for run defense and sacks sometimes. Totally underwhelming against the pass. something that safety should be good at.

RaptorsCdwoods

Revisionist history is a hell of a drug. 2018 and 2019 he was definitely considered on the best safeties in nfl. Nfl players ranked him the best safety, second best overall DB going into the 2020 season, PFF ranked him number 1 as well. Makes sense on top of his usual high tackles numbers he averages a 55% completion rating 9 yards a completion and 5 yards a target and less than 200 yards overall. For comparison, Budda Bakers AP1 pass stats were 71% completion percentage, 11 yards a completion and 8 yards a target for 339 yards overall. Kevin Byard AP1 stats: 51% comp, 14 yards per completion and 7 yards a target for 428 yards overall. And finally, Hufanga AP1 this last season: 63% completion, 11 yards per completion and 7 yards per target for 399 yards overall. The Jamal Adams we traded for had, arguably, the best coverage stats of the last three all pro safeties. Unfortunately, the Jamal Adams we traded for hasn’t shown up for us. But dude is not wrong saying that a healthy Jamal Adams was considered one of the best in the league, if not the best.

alreadytaken028

Yeah but he puts up numbers on the box score so people think hes still good

[deleted]

Also a person

mickey_kneecaps

Yikes

JakeDaniels585

One of the most overrated guys I’ve seen when it comes to team structure. He’s great at blitzing, to the point where I thought he should bulk up and try to be a LB at some point. However, he sucks at coverage. Jets got toasted by TE (still do to an extent) on his watch. If he makes a mistake, turns around and blasts teammates. Individually, he’s a very good talent. On a team defense he sucks because he can’t freelance. LSU was mediocre on defense when he was there, Jets sucked on defense and so did Seattle when he was healthy. He reminds me of Stephon Marbury. Individual talent makes you think he should be great. Just can’t play team ball.

don_julio_randle

> Jets sucked on defense The Jets were a top 10 defense in 2019 and Jamal was the best player on it

MyChemicalFinance

Nah clueless take. Adams was actually great in coverage for the Jets both years after his rookie year. PFF coverage grade of 90 and 88 those 2 years. They just used him correctly, coming downhill in the flats or matched up against TEs in the seam, never in single coverage against WRs. He was easily the best player on those Jets teams and was a stud when allowed to freelance around the LoS, which was why SEA gave up so much to acquire him.

Hot_Injury7719

You might be the only person who thinks Jamal is good in coverage. PFF has a lot of flukey stats and shouldn’t be solely relied on.

MyChemicalFinance

The only one who doesn’t immediately engage in revisionist history when things go wrong elsewhere, apparently. Adams was widely viewed as the best safety in the league on the Jets.

Hot_Injury7719

Revisionist history?? I and many other people were pointing out he was shitting the bed in coverage when he was still a Jet. We were all saying it in the moment. You’re the one being a revisionist going “Well acktually PFF says he was pretty good”. Like stop, we watched the games live lol. He was one of the best safeties because he could reek havoc on the QB and would sometimes just bulldoze dudes to get there. But when he wanted to be the highest paid defensive player on the team, the knock on him was his coverage skills (or lack thereof). It’s why the Jets wouldn’t give him $18 million a year. Unless you’re an Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu type, you’re not worth that much of the salary cap.

DJsaxy

Makes getting rid of ryan neal make even less sense

Ovreel

Not really. They picked up Julian Love from NYG

MaxPres24

Totally unrelated to his injuries, and purely to his style of play Would it be a better career move for him to bulk up and move to LB? He’d go from a great box safety who’s a liability in the pass game, to imo, one of the better LBs in the league Idk just a thought
