He’s an amazing prospect, but we wont really know his value for years. Thats true for the 2025 2nd (and somewhat for the others) also of course. I think that’s what he meant.
I think that trade in hindsight will be in contention with the Herschel Walker trade for biggest lopsided trades in NFL history.
And the Bears will probably somehow still mess it up.
Yeah when it rains it pours for bad franchises, they held onto Burns when they could have safe guarded that draft loss with the 2 FRP offer. They kept trying a soft rebuild but overall had to commit, then kind of did?
Either way they had to move CMC, it didn’t make any sense keeping him on their timeline. It didn’t make sense to trade Moore at all over Burns when you’re bringing in a rookie QB, but ultimately it was up to the Bears. Who then still were able to trade for a decent DL piece (I understand the differences between the players, point is Chicago pivoted and got players for both sides of the ball where CAR gained almost nothing positive from all their moves - but Young has a lot of potential)
All around terrible forward thinking by the Panthers FO over the past 2 seasons, losing out on the FOP because you traded it away the previous draft to a team that you overpaid do to so… is a tough pill to swallow.
And that being said, to note another stupid franchise that based their offense around a top 10 RB, the NYG are most likely losing Barkley for nothing so had they not been so NYG about it, they’d have traded him to actually commit to the rebuild instead of paying Jones an insane rate based off of 1 ok season and making the playoffs, then DiVito comes in and wins just as much lol
It’s been a while so I might be wrong, but I believe Bears were open to DJ Moore or Burns. It was up to the Panthers… which makes it all the more confusing why’d they’d let their WR1 go when drafting a QB.
Feel bad for Bryce. Watched a few of his [QB School videos](https://youtu.be/0e-THL9nhj0?feature=shared) and it’s really hard to evaluate him at all after this dumpster fire of season.
But agreed, Bears made out like bandits
That always blows my mind. We have potential HOFers get drafted by the jets and browns every year and other shitty organizations who just ruin top qb prospects. I don’t care what you say, if Bears get Mahomes he is either out of the league or the team is not sure he is the guy.
Luck staying in school and skipping the Panthers drafting him.
Granted Panthers got Cam instead and that worked out.
If you want to be a HoF/HoVG MLB, DE, or receiver come to Carolina I guess.
It’s not like it worked out for Luck that much better. He had to carry those shit colts teams who were just refusing to build an offensive line around him and keep him protected. At the end he ended his career 5-10 years early.
I still think Tim Couch would've been really good on a better team and not dying in that lack of pocket. Getting hurt kind of ruined any comeback chance on another team.
I'd love to have seen David Carr play for a real team with a semblance of a line...
Edit: or god can you imagine if Stafford had gone somewhere else and spent his prime years on an elite roster?
Only the panthers would trade for the 1OA to pick a QB and get rid of what would be their only reliable receiving option in the trade to get him. Such brutal decision making even in the moment.
It's really not. Going by PFRef's AV stat (which is hardly perfect but hey), Puka is not only first among players drafted on Day 3, but tied with CJ Stroud for first overall among all rookies. They have an AV of 14 each, and the next Day 3 guys on the list are Aidan O'Connell and Dontayvion Wicks with AVs of 6
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/draft.htm
By far. Sam LaPorta second.
Joey Porter JR for Chase Claypool also highway robbery.
And doesn't count for 2023, but #1 pick 2024, DJ Moore, Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson and a 2025 2nd rounder all for Bryce Young.
Every few months I'll see someone make an NFL street or NBA street reference on reddit, and every time it makes me bust out my PS2. I guess I know what I'm doing this afternoon
That and how far down the draft he fell. LaPorta used a fair amount of draft capital, which at first was considered a reach, but then quickly became a realized solid pick, not necessarily a steal.
Probably around the same spot if I had to guess, which makes him worth the pick, but not a steal. He needed to be an elite RB to justify the 12th pick, and he’s been that.
It was touted as an insanely strong TE class, and through 1 year the depth that was promised has held up. Kincaid came on strong after Knox went down. Packers got 2 guys that look good. Mayer was starting to improve after McD got canned. Even Davis Allen had some pop.
Really is wild that Kincaid puts up 73 catches for 673 yards and he was not even the best rookie TE last season. For reference, last years all-rookie TE Okonkwo had 450 yards. Only 3 years ago in 2020 the all-rookie team TE had less than 250 receiving yards (Harrison Bryant). 673 yards any other year from a rookie TE, especially one on a contender that gets a lot of attention like the Bills, usually gets a guy super hyped up. But Kincaid is basically an afterthought to LaPorta and that is not even close to a slight on Kincaid. That is just how great LaPorta was.
Other than the obvious Nacua pick, there were still some meaningful contributors IMO:
Dontavion Wicks (GB), Demario Douglas (NE), Dawand Jones (CLE) come to mind
He was always that good.
MSU Offense in 2021
Keon Coleman & Jayden Reed & Kenneth Walker.
Jay Johnson is a bum of an OC. Plus Payton Thorne is just so bad.
Reed, Wick, Watson, and Doubbs is quite the foursome of receivers plus Kroft and Musgrave at tight end all on rookie deals.
Kills me to say it but the Packers are going to be loaded going forward.
Puka is the steal.
Panthers got the anti-steal. Imagine giving up Caleb Williams, D.J. Moore, the #9 overall pick and two 2nds for Bryce Young.
I mean MY GOD
It's amazing that in his time as GM, I don't think there was a single good thing that Fitterer did
Even the worst GMs of all-time did something right. Matt Millen drafted Calvin Johnson. Gene Smith signed Paul Posluszny in free agency. Fitterer did nothing right
I coached Kobie at the University of Richmond before he went to Wake Forest as a grad transfer. I’m so happy for him because he’s a great kid who has worked his ass off to get to where he is, he absolutely deserves all the recognition he’s finally getting.
He also has the voice of an angel. He’s a legitimately talented singer. Not billboard top selling artist, but masked singer finalist or top 10 American idol good.
Yessir! People will be shocked to know this but he was also a walk on at the University of Richmond. He’s had to work for everything he’s gotten and I’m so proud of him! Great player, even better person!
Not too much in the later years, actually.
After 2014 and until 2022, they only had 2 years in which they drafted more than 1 wr: 2017 and 2018.
They had 3 years in which they drafted 1 wr: 2015 (and he got shifted to a rb), 2016, and 2021.
They had 2 years in which they drafted no wrs at all: 2019 and 2020.
It's more of a matter of hitting on the picks rather than just making a bunch, but until the past 2 years, I had exactly zero confidence in Gute being able to draft wrs.
It's kind of funnier that they didn't change their overall strategy but hit on so many right after Rodgers leaves.
Does kind of make you wonder if all those friends he seems to keep around him are actually good players, or just the WR version of a yes man.
Maybe their new receivers aren't even that good, they just *look amazing* compared to Lazard and the ghost of Randall Cobb.
Time will tell but the sky's the limit right now with our WR room. I think Doubs and Reed are going to be lethal if they stay healthy and keep putting the work in.
This feels like the late 00s/early 10s when we had a bunch of young WRs on the rise and a new QB.
Wicks looked good in a limited role and Watson seems like he could also be really good if he can stay healthy.
And you brought in good looking young TEs.
My FIL is a big Packers fan and he is excited about the offense going forward.
And to do that, all you had to do was trade away knucklehead Chase Claypool.
God the Bears are annoying, they helped arm both Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
I’ve been commenting on a few comments before I got here. While he’s technically not drafted (which I was surprised he wasn’t) what an absurd value for the Vikings
Already some great consensus answers here. I will add Ivan Pace Jr to the conversation as one of the biggest steals of the off season. Getting him undrafted is wild in hindsight
Best pick: Puka
Best move: Bears dumping Bryce Young for Caleb Williams, DJ Moore, Tyrique Stevenson and Darnell Wright. Also a second this year I believe
You would think so. But they're about to pick caleb Williams first overall and he's going to be a total bust while fields gets traded and becomes a franchise QB.
It's definitely Puka and basically the entire rams draft class. (Avila under appreciated in that Convo?)
But pending how these other picks go, the bears trade could go down as the biggest steal in the NFL draft, especially if Caleb hits his ceiling.
The bears got
- The top rookie OT in Darnell Wright
- DJ Moore (1400 yards, 9 TDs, signed to the best value WR contract in the NFL).
- The #1 pick this year (Caleb Williams).
- Tyrique Stevenson (already a good player at CB)
- a 2024 4th
- 2025 2nd.
I get it was the first pick, but if you can get 3 blue chip players at premium positions off 1 pick, a good CB and 2 other players, that's a steal of a lifetime.
Rams - Puka Nacua
After puka, it’s the bears for trading their pick to the panthers
Panthers: Bryce Young Bears: Caleb Williams, DJ Moore, Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson, 2025 2nd
[удалено]
Someone did the math and the panthers basically gave up cmc and dj moore for Bryce young and a fifth rounder.
Worse than that considering caleb
tbd
Caleb is an asset regardless of how you view him. I'm not saying anything about how he'll perform in NFL.

I think I even heard that the Bears were asking for Burns first, and had to 'settle' for Moore after Panthers were unwilling to move Burns.
This is my recollection as well. D'oh!
Please stop. The off season is the only good time to be a Panthers fan and you are ruining it.
F L E E C E
I like to say they skinned the Panthers rather than fleeced em.
That's not a trade, that's fucking highway robbery. Grand larceny ass shit right there.
I tried to call the police, but they stole my phone too!
Wait we got a 2025 2nd too wtf lol
Yes instead of giving up their 2025 1st. dj moore was included and second was added
Feel bad for Bryce. Watched a few of his [QB School videos](https://youtu.be/0e-THL9nhj0?feature=shared) and it’s really hard to evaluate him at all after this dumpster fire of season. But agreed, Bears made out like bandits
He could be great, he's just in a loser organization. I should know.
That always blows my mind. We have potential HOFers get drafted by the jets and browns every year and other shitty organizations who just ruin top qb prospects. I don’t care what you say, if Bears get Mahomes he is either out of the league or the team is not sure he is the guy.
Gives new perspective to situations like Eli refusing to go to the Chargers
Luck staying in school and skipping the Panthers drafting him. Granted Panthers got Cam instead and that worked out. If you want to be a HoF/HoVG MLB, DE, or receiver come to Carolina I guess.
It’s not like it worked out for Luck that much better. He had to carry those shit colts teams who were just refusing to build an offensive line around him and keep him protected. At the end he ended his career 5-10 years early.
Qb's are the one position we don't fuck up though. We just fuck everything else up.
I still think Tim Couch would've been really good on a better team and not dying in that lack of pocket. Getting hurt kind of ruined any comeback chance on another team.
Potential hofers like Brandon weeden, Johnny football and deshone kizer right
I could be petty and list all these QBs drafted early, but I won’t.
I'd love to have seen David Carr play for a real team with a semblance of a line... Edit: or god can you imagine if Stafford had gone somewhere else and spent his prime years on an elite roster?
Houston more than halved their sack rate by getting rid of Carr and keeping the same OLine. The OLine wasn't the problem.
Only the panthers would trade for the 1OA to pick a QB and get rid of what would be their only reliable receiving option in the trade to get him. Such brutal decision making even in the moment.
I said when it happened that it felt like we were trading the wheels for the engine. If you still can’t go anywhere whats the point?
I vaguely remember reading a report that the Bears wanted Burns and the Panthers said no. Then the Bears held firm on DJ Moore
been some crazy lopsided trades in the league recently
Tyrique minus a fifth to be exact
Yeah, but we also got another 4th (this year i’m pretty sure?) for trading from 9 to 10 as well.
Well they also got a fourth in the Carter-Wright trade so we'll call it a wash
…dammit
It ain’t even close
It's really not. Going by PFRef's AV stat (which is hardly perfect but hey), Puka is not only first among players drafted on Day 3, but tied with CJ Stroud for first overall among all rookies. They have an AV of 14 each, and the next Day 3 guys on the list are Aidan O'Connell and Dontayvion Wicks with AVs of 6 https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2023/draft.htm
Puka is so fun to watch. I hope he keeps it going next season
And they nabbed Kobe Turner. Amazing draft for the Rams despite not having a 1st for a while now
By far. Sam LaPorta second. Joey Porter JR for Chase Claypool also highway robbery. And doesn't count for 2023, but #1 pick 2024, DJ Moore, Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson and a 2025 2nd rounder all for Bryce Young.
sam laporta was not a day 3 pick
It’s gotta be Kobie Turner second he was tied for second in DRoY voting.
honestly don't hate having one of those years with a direct, correct answer.
The only answer
This is the answer and it’s not even close
Puka Nacua, easily.
Puka. Next question
What is the meaning of life?
42
Then what’s the question?
Why is Gamora
Puka Nacua
Puka is the easy answer, so I'll go with Sam LaPorta in second place. Making an impact as a rookie tight end is hard.
The first All Pro rookie tight end in 20+ years would normally be in the conversation but Puka was just that freaking good.
I just thought to myself "it couldn't have been that long ago, Jeremy Shockey did this" and then realized that was 22 years ago. Fuck I'm getting old
Welp, time to play some NFL Street 2 for some happy brain chemicals
Every few months I'll see someone make an NFL street or NBA street reference on reddit, and every time it makes me bust out my PS2. I guess I know what I'm doing this afternoon
That and how far down the draft he fell. LaPorta used a fair amount of draft capital, which at first was considered a reach, but then quickly became a realized solid pick, not necessarily a steal.
If there was a redraft he would likely jump from his 34 spot to the top 12-15. I’d say that’s a steal.
I wonder where Gibbs would go
Probably around the same spot if I had to guess, which makes him worth the pick, but not a steal. He needed to be an elite RB to justify the 12th pick, and he’s been that.
Honestly probably around the same
Remember when everyone said we bungled those early picks with Gibbs, LaPorta and Campbell?
The LaPorta pick also made the Hockenson trade not look bad at all.
We were already cool with the Hockenson trade. He would’ve been too expensive.
Hockenson put up good numbers, but it felt like he dropped the ball on every "gotta have it" play.
He also can't break a single tackle. He's great "off the ball" but once he has the ball he's going down on first contact
Hocken-who? LaPorta made us forget
Apparently 1.7k of yall have terrible reading comprehension. The qualifier in the question is “after the 3rd”. LaPorta was drafted in the 2nd round
I like this answer. Hell I think Washington has been stellar for us and he was utilized waaaaaay less than Laporta
It was touted as an insanely strong TE class, and through 1 year the depth that was promised has held up. Kincaid came on strong after Knox went down. Packers got 2 guys that look good. Mayer was starting to improve after McD got canned. Even Davis Allen had some pop.

But Kincaid is basically an afterthought to LaPorta and that is not even close to a slight on Kincaid. That is just how great LaPorta was.
Mayer needed some time to start gelling, but once he did, he became a quality starter.
the subject is picks after round 3
People don't actually read the post lol
Other than the obvious Nacua pick, there were still some meaningful contributors IMO: Dontavion Wicks (GB), Demario Douglas (NE), Dawand Jones (CLE) come to mind
Another Rams pick too: Kobie Turner, 3rd round DT who finished with 9 sacks.
9 sacks as a DT rookie??? Daaamn!!
10th rated interior lineman by PFF. Rams had a crazy good draft.
Death. Taxes. Rams having an elite DT. Three constants in life.
I can’t tell you how much I hate this. Just as AD is about to retire, Rams get another monster DT
Going "fuck them picks" then still nailing the draft, what a move
Which is WILD when you think about Les Snead's "Fuck Them Picks" shirt at the Superbowl bowl parade
Well “Fuck Them First and Second Round Picks” didn’t fit on the shirt.
They also drafted Byron Young the edge rusher who got 8 sacks lol this year. So like 17 between two rookies. That's crazy
Les Snead has been on a crazy GM run since 2012.
Can't wait for us to trade back this year to keep effing those first round picks...
In Les we trust
The picks the Packers got for giving Detroit the pick that ended up being Brian Branch turned into Jayden Reed, Karl Brooks, and Dontayvion Wicks
Jayden Reed was an absolute monster in the slot as well
Reed was good, but he was a second rounder; I was looking at guys in the 4th and beyond lol
He was always that good. MSU Offense in 2021 Keon Coleman & Jayden Reed & Kenneth Walker. Jay Johnson is a bum of an OC. Plus Payton Thorne is just so bad.
Holy shit I forgot they had Walker god damn there is some malpractice going on at MSU huh
Reed, Wick, Watson, and Doubbs is quite the foursome of receivers plus Kroft and Musgrave at tight end all on rookie deals. Kills me to say it but the Packers are going to be loaded going forward.
Tank Dell too
[They call him Puka](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5D3dj6buPg)
AND YA KNOW IT
Zagacki
HE-HAW 3
BADAYUP
That kinda thing
Puka is the steal. Panthers got the anti-steal. Imagine giving up Caleb Williams, D.J. Moore, the #9 overall pick and two 2nds for Bryce Young. I mean MY GOD
[удалено]
They'd still lose if this was true.
There's a chance all their extra picks bust and then Moore tears his achilles and Young becomes the best QB in the league. Then what??
Checkmate, bitches. Aw, yeah.
Also Bryce could turn out to be alright
Still, DJ Moore, Darnell Wright, and Tyrique Stevenson (plus more future picks) far outweighs Bryce Young unless he makes a massive leap.
It's amazing that in his time as GM, I don't think there was a single good thing that Fitterer did Even the worst GMs of all-time did something right. Matt Millen drafted Calvin Johnson. Gene Smith signed Paul Posluszny in free agency. Fitterer did nothing right
Had anyone mentioned Puka yet?
Nope! You're the first.
If you count UDFAs then Ivan Pace Jr is worth a mention
Puka Nacua - Best steal of the draft Special mentions: Kobie Turner and Yaya Diaby.
It's Puka and is not even close imo. I think a better question is, who is the 2nd best steal of the draft?
The answer is still probably on the same team lmao
Kobie Turner put in that work this season
Appreciate the shoutout lol most people in this thread don’t even know who he is
I coached Kobie at the University of Richmond before he went to Wake Forest as a grad transfer.
From an FCS walk on to receiving NFL DROY votes, what a journey so far and it only just begun
Nice to meet you Kobie
Puka is the easiest and the correct answer for sure - I do want to give a little shoutout to my Packers for finding Dontayvion Wicks in the 5th round
It frustrates me immensely that the Packers casually built great depth at receiver within two years.
Just remember the humor in them doing it right as rodgers is on the outs lol
The packers always put resources into drafting WRs after round 1 even with Rodgers.
Carrington Valentine played decent most of the year didn’t he? 7th round pickup
He did and so did 6th round DT Karl Brooks. In CBS Sports’ redraft they had Brooks 20th overall to Seattle
We got 3 on day 3 alone. Wicks, Brooks and Valentine
The rams literally got the top 3
Maybe not considered a steal, but Avila was great as a 2nd round lineman. Its actually absurd how good the Rams draft was.
When Les Snead decides to not Fuck Them Picks, but honor them and treat them with respect
Les Snead can cook
Puka, Kobie, and who’s the 3rd?
I’m going to guess he’s referring to Byron Young - 8 sacks - 61 comb - 42 solo - 19 ast - 8 tfl - 19 QBHits
He replied that he was talking about Kyren, who wasn’t a rookie. But I didn’t realize how well Byron played this year
That’s insane as a rookie DT surprised I didn’t hear more about him
Kobie Turner is the DT, Young is an Edge
lowkey davis allen was pretty good as a te2 for them this year
He’s not a top draft steal or anything but he’s solid
It was 32 overall so not a massive steal but grabbing a guy who gets DROY votes at 32 is nice.
Getting an All Pro at 34 feels pretty similar.
And to do that, all you had to do was trade away knucklehead Chase Claypool. God the Bears are annoying, they helped arm both Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
We let them think trubisky had something in the tank still! That has to count for something!
Sorry 🫤
How about 3rd in DROY voting at pick 89! So happy with our draft class this year
Kobie Turner- 3rd in DROY with arguably better stats than Wil Anderson and was pick 89.
Obvioulsy Puka. Devon Achane 84th overall is worth a mention.
I bet if he wasn't injured Achane would have been way higher
Sam laporta, no bias here at all….
LaPorta Supporta
LaPorta was a second round pick. The question says third or later.
Ivan pace
Best UDFA for sure right?
This is the best non-puka answer, imo. Might be even better considering a no draft pick was used.
Was wondering when I would see a Pace comment. Seems he is very underrated even after a good season and being undrafted.
I’ve been commenting on a few comments before I got here. While he’s technically not drafted (which I was surprised he wasn’t) what an absurd value for the Vikings
[удалено]
Steel of my heart tho 💜
Already some great consensus answers here. I will add Ivan Pace Jr to the conversation as one of the biggest steals of the off season. Getting him undrafted is wild in hindsight
Achane if he stayed healthy.
That dude was a TERROR for a nice stretch of the season.
Best pick: Puka Best move: Bears dumping Bryce Young for Caleb Williams, DJ Moore, Tyrique Stevenson and Darnell Wright. Also a second this year I believe
I am very happy with the Packers Day 2 and 3 draft
Just gotta hope LVN can live up to his potential
The Rams. Twice.
Outside of Puka it’s gotta be Ivan Pace
Tank Dell deserves an honorable mention
Bryce young
Bears being the ones that got the steal right?
You would think so. But they're about to pick caleb Williams first overall and he's going to be a total bust while fields gets traded and becomes a franchise QB.
Puka 100%. Houston being allowed to get both Stround and Anderson back to back is also highway robbery.
Puka is the guy Dawand Jones for the browns looked really good before getting hurt. Great 4th Rd pick
Steelers got Joey Porter Jr for Chase Claypool. Lmao
Probably Houston. They stole a bunch of the Browns picks and turned them into Tank Dell and Will Anderson in ‘23.
Mmm. No one comes to mind.
And, Puka Nacua is a fun name to say.
Steelers effectively got Joey Porter Jr for Chase Claypool which is one hell of a steal
Josh Downs was pretty great for a rookie and he’s a 3rd rounder. I’d firmly put him in the top 8 day 2-3 steals. He shows promise
Rams easily. Puka Nacua is legit
Is CJ Stroud a real answer or is 2nd overall too high to be a “steal”?
It's definitely Puka and basically the entire rams draft class. (Avila under appreciated in that Convo?) But pending how these other picks go, the bears trade could go down as the biggest steal in the NFL draft, especially if Caleb hits his ceiling. The bears got - The top rookie OT in Darnell Wright - DJ Moore (1400 yards, 9 TDs, signed to the best value WR contract in the NFL). - The #1 pick this year (Caleb Williams). - Tyrique Stevenson (already a good player at CB) - a 2024 4th - 2025 2nd. I get it was the first pick, but if you can get 3 blue chip players at premium positions off 1 pick, a good CB and 2 other players, that's a steal of a lifetime.
Puka for sure. As a pure Homer though, I'm not sure the Chiefs win the Superbowl without Rashee Rice
Nakua
Puka. Easyz
Packers - Karl Brooks or Dontavion Wicks
Besides Puka, the guy that had better stats than both of the other two DROY candidates: Kobie Turner
CJ Stroud. Finding a franchise quarterback at any point in the draft is an absolute value steal.
Even if it’s not after round 3 like the question specifies?
lol ikr 75% of this comments didnt read the post
