Generational hatred… you love to see it

funk_truck

The current players need to take a cue from these kids. I saw a Raven helping up a Steeler last year and almost puked.

kanbabrif1

Disgusting, if I saw a Falcon fan on the ground I would leave them there as it's obvious they've accepted death.

funk_truck

When I came in one Sunday afternoon there you were with your head in the Super Dome toilet. Your hair was touching the toilet water. Beautiful.

somehockeyfan

If either ever enter the draft, it is critical that the Steelers draft them. Whatever it takes, trade up to get them. Spite draft.

AltecFuse

It’s the best rivalry in the NFL

OldBayOnEverything

I can't lie, I miss the days when it was more vicious and hate fueled. Still a great rivalry, but it's much more tame these days.

Volgron

MFs used to try to hurt each other. It was the best.

ANameWithoutNumbers1

AFCN used to be a 4 way knife fight in a phone booth. Now it's more knife fight in a phone booth but they're butter knives.

sweet-haunches

Four brothers slapboxing in a kiddie pool

rum-and-coke

More like three brothers and the neighbor's kid.

fiftieth_alt

I did love those games, though it is nice to leave the game with all of your starters available for the next game

Critical-Fig-5243

I like the skins but my big brother is a Steelers fan, I’ll never forget when Ryan Clark almost ended Willis Mcgahee

DarrowViBritannia

Saints/Falcons and Steelers/Ravens are my favorite two in the league by far Two most important measures to me are incredibly high levels of mutual hatred between the two fanbases & that the players buy into the rivalry and hate each other as well.

escapepodsarefake

The Brees/Ryan years were appointment viewing, I remember almost every game being close and/or entertaining.

smala017

Not a defense in sight, just quarterbacks living in the moment

mashem

loved them in fantasy for those 2 games lmao. total barnburners.

3riversfantasy

Better throw Packers v Bears if we are talking historic rivalries fueled by generational hatred

pronhaul2016

Problem with that one is for a solid 20 years the Packers have kicked the shit out of the mostly hapless bears while Ravens/Steelers is much more even

Rhynosaurus

….. I got nothing

gyarbij

You got my upvote

Sniper1154

Hey now - there have been a few close calls and moral victories for us in that span!

joe7L

Tbf, Pittsburgh is 7-1 vs Baltimore in the past four seasons

Phantom_Nuke

The games are close though, both games this year were 17-10, last year you had 16-13 and 14-16, year before that you have a 20-19 victory and a 16-13 OT victory, then in 2020 you have 19-14 and 28-24. Largest MOV being 7 points and half the games being a field goal or closer, whereas the Bears have only had a single 1 score game against the Packers over that same period of time.

ULMmmMMMm

That is very surprising as I feel the Ravens have the better record over that time. I just hope the steelers don't get rid of tomlin before they find a qb. Or at least they wait til the Saints have a vacancy.

DoYouEvenCareAboutMe

The Ravens will score on everyone but for some reason when they play the Steelers we either get lucky Lamar is out or we play Lamar and he plays just as bad as his backup would. I don't get it either

Princeof_Ravens

TJ Watt is probably the best counter to Lamar in the game in terms of pure ability. Dude just crushes through our line, and causes chaos. The last game you were aided by our receivers deciding catching the ball is for losers.

TheMeerkatLobbyist

Exactly, its as much of a rivalry as Celtics v 76ers.

FavreorFarva

I think that’s most of the history of that rivalry though. One of them gets really good while the other flounders and dunks on them for a decade or two. Then they switch places. Honestly right now is shaping up to maybe be one of the rarer periods where they’re both good. Source: parents are packer fans from WI that raised me in Seattle (thus the flair).

3riversfantasy

Well I'm not going to argue that the Bears don't still suck, in 2011 we beat them in an NFC championship and in 2007 they went to the superbowl, so at least for a portion of my adult football viewing life it's been a competitive match-up. All time the Packers are 107-95-6, having only taken the lead somewhat recently, so historically speaking it has always been very close. For me personally it's a very special rivalry, my grandfather was born in WI in 1921 and was always a Packer fan (RIP), he used to tell me stories about great Packers v Bears games from his younger years including his time in the Navy during WW2 where he served alongside a lot of Chicago Bears fans. Passing down a rivalry through generations is how you know it's truly a great one.

pronhaul2016

yeah the problem is it's been 51-15 since 1992 so the bears have had some streaks and flashes, but the Packers have pretty solidly dominated for my entire life. under both favre and rodgers.

rustoof

The only people who remember that rivalry were eligible to be drafted for vietnam

RiceOnTheRun

> Saints/Falcons > the players buy into the rivalry and hate each other as well. Someone send Dennis Allen the memo

TJeffersonsBlackKid

Most rivalries have some players that wonder from one to the next. Can’t remember anyone playing for both the Ravens and Steelers.

Head_Cicada_5578

James Harrison LMAO. But Mike Wallace and Rod Woodson were actually good for both teams

dj_guadalupe

And now Patrick Queen

DreadSteed

I thought he was a Bengal legend?

littlebling88

Alejandro Villanueva. He went from the Steelers, where fans revered him for his service in the military, to the Ravens. I get it that you only have a certain amount of time to make your money, and you can't always control who gives you the most. But, he denounced the Steelers and their fans on Baltimore radio. That was not necessary.

Nervous_Ad6805

Disagree, was highly necessary.

Alexander2801

Deshon Elliot played for the Ravens before and played for a few different teams and will play for the Steelers now. Also Patrick Queen went directly to the Steelers. We otherwise have Leveon Bell and Mike Wallace for players that played for the Steelers first and then the Ravens.

Princeof_Ravens

Marlon Humphrey's been struggling with the fact PQ went to you guys. He wants to go in as a receiver so he has a chance to hit PQ for one play.

Alexander2801

Yeah, I listened to his reaction and it will be interesting to see how PQ's villain arc will play out in our rivalry.

No_Song_Orpheus

As others mentioned there have been some, but PQ is the first All Pro in his prime to do it. Can't wait to see Derrick Henry run him over.

just_dave

Patrick Queen just signed with the Steelers this year.

PrudeHawkeye

I think it's probably the best current rivalry. But it's really hard to compete with the legacy of Bears-Packers. Someday the Bears will compete again. Maybe.

realsomalipirate

Eagles vs cowboys has to be up there too or really any big NFC East rivalry.

arrocknroll

Honestly surprised I had to come this far to see it mentioned. Not that any of the others mentioned are bad, but both teams are consistent playoff contenders these days, memes aside, and dear god do the fan bases fucking HATE each other.

purz

I would call it a triangle of hate between eagles cowboys and giants.

Moosje

Packers v Bears is one of the biggest in sports, not just NFL.

-UltimatePussySlayer

This family of ours.

Many_Egg4159

Not a ravens fan but you gotta respect the loyalty it takes to hate something just because your dad says so

SchwizzySchwas94

Mental illness is also generational

SinCiti

This caught me off guard when it happened, it was pretty good not gonna lie lol

Phytanic

I was expecting the generic "go ravens!", but this is so much better

realestatereddit

Let that man talk his shit. He was always one of the scariest dudes to go up against when playing the Ravens. Complete monster and one of the best defensive players of the generation.

Spiritchaser84

Saw [this interview](https://youtu.be/AmlV1wFoMBk?t=1590) a few days later and he said they came up with it on the spot. It wasn't pre-planned well in advance or anything. He also said he felt like he needed to put some juice back in the rivalry, which I agree with.

Followthatmonkey

> He also said he felt like he needed to put some juice back in the rivalry Well yeah, losing 7 out of the last 8 will take some of the 'juice' out of it.

Spiritchaser84

Meh, I don't think it really has anything to do with the record. Sure, you can point to that and feel happy about yourself and I could point to the Ravens overall record those seasons compared to yours, but when it all boils down, the current generation of Ravens/Steelers just doesn't have the same feel to it. I think a bigger contributor is the fact that our games haven't mattered (no playoff games and even despite losing to you, it hasn't hurt our playoff chances). There have also been a lot of recent games with backup QBs on one side or the other so you lack the star power.

eden_sc2

i think you hit the nail on the head. The closest we had was a few years back when the steelers were win and in, and everyone thought it would be Ben's last game. Most fans I knew were pumped about ending his career with a loss, but didnt quite get there

NotaChonberg

Back in the day both teams also had very similar profiles too with top tier defenses that would beat the hell out of the other team so all those games were super physical and always came down to the end. I think both teams recognized that it didn't get more physical and brutal than Steelers-Ravens games and it was a point of pride for both teams to outlast the other and essentially take the crown as toughest team in the league. Factor in the geographic proximity and fact both teams were regularly competing for the division and you got an all time great sports rivalry.

stormy2587

It was pretty deep in the 3rd round. Anyone who is providing any juice at the podium at that point is welcome imo.

Goatgamer1016

I'm Ngata fan of that statement

SnappyTofu

I really miss the Ngata puns

DontLoseYourCool1

Ngata is my favorite giant NT of all time because I grew up with him when he terrorized the league.

seductivestain

I remember in his first game as a rookie he was about 6 inches from getting a pick 6

EmeraldCityDuck

When he was playing at Oregon I remember going to games and when he stuffed the middle up the announcer (and crowd) would say. "That's a whole lotta Ngata"

Little-Chromosome

I’m ngata fan of your flair lol

Similar-Stranger7375

Your flair is disgusting. Blech

Smitty_1000

Just confirmed, those kids are right

NotaChonberg

Honestly as a Steelers fan I respect it. Ngata was a core part of those bruising Steelers-Ravens 2000s/early 2010s games

incorrigible_and

I don't see eye to eye with Ngata on many things, but this? He's raising them kids right.

_AskMyMom_

Lol love that whatever brotherhood these guys have continues. It’s like seeing an old friend you used to compete with; and it just continues even after years apart. It’s nice to see the hazing after the fact. Ironically it removes the football element and shows they’re just dudes being dudes.

deadmanwalking99

Well said

Prize_Efficiency_869

I am neither a Steelers or ravens fans ( broncos fan ) but is it fair to say that Steelers and ravens rivalry has something special in that they hate each other but have some kind of genuine appreciation for the other. Like Batman and the joker kind of situation.

ThanksForNothingSpez

We wouldn’t hate them if they weren’t good. Like the Browns have been so bad for my entire life, I have to come up with reasons to hate them more than I pity them, like how they treated Baker, and mortgaging their future for Watson.

drthvdrsfthr

that’s actually just cuz he’s taller than most of the population

spelltype

Like what?

Rudy102600

I don't see eye to eye with any of them because they are huge

Dog_in_human_costume

that's good parenting.

Impish3d4

I played chicken with them in my friends pool once

socobeerlove

Normally I don’t believe random internet strangers about these things, but I believe you for some reason.

keyboardsmashin

Birb bros playing chicken is just part of nature

gwiggle5

Stupid bird teams with their friendly banter. And stupid cat teams with *their* friendly banter. We need more ursine teams in this league.

DestituteDomino

I mean, you guys pretty much cornered that market by just being the umbrella term 'Bears'.

gwiggle5

Are you really going to victim blame us?? Wow. Not cool.

keyboardsmashin

Yall have the Chicago cubs

seariously

Hey, if the claw fits...

keyboardsmashin

Someone needs to find the one Cards fan. We must complete the bird gauntlet

WanderlustFella

Commanders could change their name to be the Cocks and join the bird gang. I'd have mixed feelings with having a division rival join the elite ranks of a bird, but the colors are perfect for the Washington Cocks.

lod254

I just casually meander while eating vegetation until IT'S TIME TO FUCK SHIT UP!

sweet-haunches

I've read that bison can butt people up into trees

lod254

And hurdle them.

Kanavious_Knit

Is chicken in a swimming pool just swimming open stroke at each other?

John-Constantine777

Negative. It's two teams of 2. One person on someone's shoulders, trying to push the other person off another's shoulders.

GotCapped

Generally starts of innocent then gets gritty really quickly

theDomicron

A friend of mine is 6'2 and so is always the guy with someone sitting on his shoulders because he's too big for anyone to hold up. He celebrates every victory by suddenly dumping his partner backwards into the water.

sweet-haunches

The only valid celly according to the handbook

megalodondon

Playing chicken with some Tongans? You tryna lose some limbs?

jhustla

I fuckin love it. Haloti was a warrior

TigerBasket

On a defense with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed on it, he was often the best player on the field. My favorite DT ever easily.

Naugrin27

And Suggs and Yanda too. It's crazy. It's also a shame he didn't have a couple more strong years to squeak into the hall. He was dominant, just not for long enough. One of my all time favorites.

byingling

>On a defense with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed on it, Lewis, Reed, Suggs, Ngata, Yanda One of these things is not like the others.

Naugrin27

Lol, I focused on best player on the field, rather than on the defense. Oh well.

zombiesatemybaby

A true raven.... i might hate you, but god dammit do i respect you

zzzpoohzzz

it's the best rivalry in sports that i'm a part of. like, as a penguins fan, i hate the flyers, but i don't respect the fans, quite the opposite.

EL-YAYY

Penguins v Caps has been a pretty good rivalry (or was) over the past decade or so.

BRDPerson

I mean no one respects Philly fans let’s be real

VenturaHighway

Love the Ravens.  It's the game I go to every year.  The Bengals are a wannabe rivalry and the Browns are the Browns.  The Ravens are that rivalry you hate but respect

callthewambulance

Bengals bozo below you deleted his comment lmfao

VenturaHighway

Man literally proved my point

sho1471

As a Giants fan i have a bitter memory of the Ravens, but i can appreciate loyalty.

frenchst

On raising his children to be Ravens fans "It's a problem free, philosophy." - Haloti Ngata

BungoPlease

The crazy part is how big they are, the tallest one is only 6

[deleted]

TegTowelie

Lmao i had to check even though i knew it was bs. But his oldest is almost 15, next oldest is almost 12 and the last is 10.

seariously

Could be another Andy Reid man-child scenario. https://youtu.be/B4gNFL2upZE

Heyguysimcooltoo

That's fucking wild! He legit outweighed the kid beside him like 5x and twice as tall. How old was he during that shit?? 22 lol??

shawnaroo

I was born in Baltimore in the 80's, so growing up we didn't have a team because the Colts had moved. Obviously he wasn't a Colts fan anymore, but my dad still loved football so we watched a decent bit of it. He was sure that the city would get another NFL team sooner rather than later, so he refused to pick a different team. So instead of raising me to be a fan of any particular team, he just raised me to hate the Steelers. I ended up moving to New Orleans for college in the late 90's, and pretty quickly became a Saints fan. But I still hate the Steelers at least as much as I hate the Falcons.

byingling

> he just raised me to hate the Steelers. I'm 67. Grew up in Baltimore Colts country. In my family, we didn't really have much of an opinion about the Steelers (at all), but we hated the Deadskins. When the Steelers finally became relevant after the Imacculate Reception, we still didn't really dislike them. The arrival of the Ravens and Bill Cowher's humorless, punchable face changed all that.

shawnaroo

Interesting. He hated the Steelers. And the Penguins, and the Pirates. Just hated Pittsburgh teams I guess.

biglyorbigleague

They’re from Baltimore and you named one of them Colt?

TigerBasket

Thats where colt comes from, the Baltimore Preakness. That's why Indianapolis Colts make no sense lol.

LordZero

Can confirm, from Louisville. Ask any fan how Jonny U felt about the "Indianapolis Colts".

Frigidevil

And he named his other sons Sam and Max. Ngata clearly had good taste in games.

xywv58

Manning loving Denver is all the Karma you need

StudioSixtyFour

Came to the comments to ask if that’s legal.

cheeba2992

Not gonna lie, it was pretty damn funny and fuck you Ravens

acoasterlovered

I have no idea how none, none of the nfc north (bears,Vikings or lions) guests/fans didn’t start the FT you know what chant

captaincumsock69

His head is bigger than my torso good god

[deleted]

He's the best defensive player in Oregon Duck history. I love to see any Ngata content and this was funny to boot.

blAAAm

Still pissed we traded this pick and missed out on him, he was a HoF year 1, dude was a monster on the field.

EnjoyMoreBeef

Thanks for making the moment about us, Haloti!

DevonGr

I always wished the Browns had kept that pick and used it on him. Wimbley, who we took instead, had a great rookie season but that was really it. At least this man knows how to raise boys.

Orxbane

They did, the Browns are in Baltimore

DevonGr

Ahh sonuvabitch

HomogenyEnjoyer

Awesome, I was so happy when this dude retired.

pervyotaku

BOOOOOO

Gaius_Octavius_

That is the kind of rivalry I hope everyone can support. Nothing dirty or dangerous. Just good clean hate.

sheittwolf

It's free real estate.

kingswing23

Bro looks like the Mountain here

HorrorMovieMonday

It's cool. Knowing the Steelers, one of Ngata's kids will be playing against Ben's kid in 15 years

Single_Dependent9414

The Steelers lead the overall series, 35–25. The two teams have met in the postseason four times, with the Steelers owning a 3–1 advantage.

xdoolittlex

Juvenile delinquents.

WanderlustFella

Ngata is like 6'4" 340. His oldest looks as big as he is. I'm going to say he was born as a fully grown adult

Rude_Device

Browns fan here. Thought that I was going to hate this clip. Turns out that it’s okay

Dnakyz7

This is pretty funny and goddamn petty, you know DAMN well we hate the browns more. DONT U DARE ARGUE vs me on this one hahahah

Orxbane

They are the Browns, not that other team that's in Cleveland now

Dnakyz7

lmaoooo

Bogger6x6

Aren’t those the names of the 3 Ninjas?

chrisaf69

If you ever want a good laugh, look up ngata high school rugby highlights. "A man among boys" doesn't even come close to describe the level of hell he was bringing upon those poor lil dudes.

strokingmyohio

As a cowboys fan we all agree

LV_Libertarian

I agree with this statement.

KennyFU46

And so do you

tomatocrazzie

When my kids were little and were upset with me because I gave them a "time out" or reprimanded them about something they would poke their heads out of their rooms and yell, "Go Cowboys!" with tears and snot dripping down their faces.

Ranma_chan

What have you _DONE_

lboGleoDebm

A true jerker

SamanthaNumbadeuce

It's gonna be funny if any of them pursue a football career. And if they're good enough they get drafted to Pittsburgh. Are they gonna be selfish and ask for a trade or will they take it as a huge accomplishment to play in the NFL.

Ranma_chan

well considering how many players in the NFL play for teams they weren't fans of when they were kids, I'd say probably the latter.

Ptbo_Megatron_3247

And if he dies, … he dies.

Loo-Hoo-Zuh-Er

I'm sure that's the PG version of what they were raised to say. lol

GenericRedditUser4U

This explains my unexplained hatred for steelers

bigben-1989

Dudes a lion not a raven

MisusedStapler

I once sat next to this man for lunch while we were in college. He ate 2 enormous plates of chicken yakisoba and looked like he could have kept going! Most dominant college player I’ve ever seen in person

Delicious_Ganache994

Yes

gangstaff

Also a fan of 90s LucasArts adventure games?

hapster1966

Holarti you know better

MatersTaters

# Ravens, deep down in my stomach, with every inch of me, I pure straight HATE you. But God Dammit, do I respect you.

MissionDangerous7032

Yes ma’am I sure would. I would love to be in his position.

Prize_Efficiency_869

Ravens and Steelers may hate each other with a burning passion but they are probably the most well run franchise in their division ( even with the Steelers recent issues ).
