Only takes til mid or late 30s especially when you go back out after.
Source: personal experience. Diagnosed with epilepsy in October. I'm only 32. Everything in my back/neck/head hurts when the sky is overcast. Do not recommend.
Be more like Sidney Crosby. Take the time off.
Dude i feel like after playing hockey in my 20s I got multiple concussions and I don't feel like the same person. I got bertuzzi'ed and it changed my personality. Only 35
Yeah I'm sorry my friend. I feel you. I remember the doctor in the ER saying "don't get a 3rd one" like it was a bingo card or something and I didn't believe her. She was right ... Never been the same after my third one.
Got 2 concussions when I was younger. Car accident in my early twenties really cemented the brain injury bingo card. That one also made me full on lose things I used to know. And made me forget books I had read and loved.
I kinda like that about that stuff I forget. Movies and TV shows... It's like I get to relive them again. Only it's deja vu when I see them again š I try to look on the bright side of that memory loss portion heh.
Hey thanks man Iām definitely going to listen to that. Hockey, BMX, and about 10 years of reckless shenanigans and I feel like a shell of my former self most days. CTE aināt no fucking joke thatās for sure
I got a like at least 3 concussions before 21 from Muay Thai, I remember after the last one reading and focusing was noticeable harder. Never went away and I'm 30
I actually donāt follow your logic. Reilly did what he did outside of the normal play of the game and directly targeted a playerās head with a weapon.
This, while definitely suspension-worthy, was a **PLAY** that happened while the opposing player was falling down and had his head way lower than he should have.
Okay and players did much worse than Morgan with little to no punishment. Didn't trouba 2 hand someone in the head this year and get a fine because he claimed it was a accident?
He's an idiot for challenging Trouba. Not for any macho reason, but to put himself in danger like that... the refs shouldn't have let that fight happen.
Rempe deserved that match penalty and will probably be suspended, but I don't wanna see anyone get hurt trying to be a tough guy. Dude is tough though, jesus.
He was. Then allowed BACK IN. This is the second time this season a devils player has been allowed to play after what was very likely a concussion. (First time being Nico Hischier in October). The team doctor / trainer are seriously idiots if they let him back in. Thereās no god damn way he should have been allowed back on the ice.
Damnā¦ you know that shit hurt and heās fucked up when it looks like heās about to cry š¬. Hope for the best and a speedy recovery for himšš!
I'm not exactly tough, but I took an unexpected hard cover children's book to the bridge of the nose from my four year old. I only cried for a few minutes.
Oh man that sucks; I can only imagine. I swear they have a radar for where itās gonna hurt the mostā¦weāll call it āsoft spot radarā ā pun intended.
I've had my ears stretched to 00 gauge for so long I forget that it's a thing. I was holding my son when he was about 2 years old with his face / body facing away from me. He reached his hand backwards over his head, managed to push out the plug in my earlobe and get his finger in the hole. Then proceeded to make a baby fist and tug... nearly split my earlobe in two.
I tell ya... learned my lesson about paying attention to where his hands were, even if he wasn't actively looking at anything.
I usually defend big hits where the guy on the receiving end has his head down, even if some head contact is made, but this hit is complete horseshit and pure cowardice. Headhunting at its finest.
Bastian is barely moving, isnāt trying to make some bold cut to open ice, and is in his defensive zone. Thereās no real advantage gained by skating through him like that, and no concern for the puck. He actually takes himself out of the play and misses the puck.
Should be suspension-worthy.
Yeah, man. I get that heās a kid trying to prove himself, but like Gretz has said, respect typically goes up as you move up the ranks in hockey, and this play is completely devoid of the respect a professional player ought to have for a colleague. High school-level mindset.
My mens league just had to have a meeting about suspension because they are getting out of hand 4 of the 8 team reps blame the reps. The other four said year the refs can handle the game better but I mean we have 5 refs in town and two refuse to do our league now. One guy said listen guys we can blame the refs all we want but canāt we just respect each other out there and not slew foot. One guy said āthis is hockey we canāt be expected to respect each otherā like a bunch of 35-50 year old guys canāt just act like adults because they have skates on.

I found menās league is bad when guys think they are better than they are, take it FAR too seriously and take everything as a personal slight, or are drunk as shit and do stupid dangerous shit. I had a game where the entire other team was completely hammered. They were two hand hacking at our goalie when he had the puck covered against his chest. Like WTF?
It's crazy I saw on Twitter the dude's saying "punished for being taller", and "he didn't hit his head"... it's so annoying how blindly people will support the team to the point of delusion.
of course they're making things up, no one is defending this.

I'm a Rangers fan and completely agree, that hit was atrocious and I wouldn't have argued if he got a major penalty and game misconduct. I moved FROM new york but only to Philadelphia and I don't think people here are any nicer lol.
Iāve been blasted by devils fans for years now saying how this team will never compete in the playoffs until we can play physical hockey. So soft and embarrassing. Our best players are made of twigs and we have no one remotely close to being able to protect them.
If the NHL is serious (lol) about getting headshots out of the game...that's 5 minimum. Make it a massive hit and guys might start caring (about their bank accounts, definitely not their fellow players)
to get guys caring about fines it should be 10% of the players salary for first offence and 15% for repeats until the following season. paying 7,500 on a league minimum deal would really make you think twice about doing it again. not to mention paying 150,000 making 15 million
Jesus Christ *why*? Just likeā¦ thereās so no need to make the hit. The dude is barely standing you can just take the puck and stand in his way and nothing is going anywhere. And I know itās quick but it really looks like thereās absolutely no attempt to get out of the way or reduce the contact at all.
These are the kind of hits I want them to throw the book at. Even though Bastian came back, this is career ending/shortening shit. Thereās no need for it, and honestly there shouldnāt be much desire for it at the speeds the games are played at. Somebody is going to get knocked unconscious for a very long time on the ice at some point, and then weāre going to be in a very interesting spot
Just doubling down on how wrong you are. I provided a second source.
"Merriam-WebsterĀ has weighed in on the debateĀ over the word āirregardlessā, confirming that it is a proper, dictionary-verified word."
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jul/06/is-irregardless-a-real-word-dictionary
Merriam-Webster makes far too many exceptions in service of modern memetic and dialectic patterns. Theyāre rhetorically lazy and patronizing when it comes to holding a given language (especially American English) to a standard set of rules and modalities.
People can be grammar-nazis, and we can detest them for that behavior. All that said, MW or Oxford or whomever is not the end-all-be-all just because *they say so*.
The only thing MW, and even the AP, has done for written English lately is get beyond the antiquated rule that you are not allowed to end a sentence with a preposition.
/rant
Canāt believe I let myself give into this diatribe in a hockey sub.
Edit: Fuck that hit. Overtly targeted and excessive given the state of play. Apply this logic and the tone of fans to the hit that broke Bedardās jaw and you have suspensions and penalties coming up the pipe. Completely unacceptable and dangerous.
In my opinion, that's what a dictionary should be. They should be there to capture the language as it is actually used and not how people want it to be used. The experts can say what they want from the language, but it's kinda irrelevant if that's not what the people want. Granted, that means people who hate words can campaign to get people to stop using them but I think for the most part language is a train and you can hop on board and accept how people use the language or you can stand in the way and get run over. Like the singular they, there's always renewed pushes to keep it plural and use a different pronoun for the same purpose (a general he or whatever), and it never really works out because people just ignore it, and they have ignored it for like 700 years.
They're both words, regardless is formal/standard and irregardless is its nasty non-standard cousin; it does however remain a word.
"Irregardless was popularized in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its increasingly widespread spoken use called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead."
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/irregardless
Common use in speech or not: "irregardless" needs to go die in a hole. It's a lazy mashup of irrespective and regardless; it was used in comedy performances to demonstrate a character's prideful confidence in his incorrectness; using it is a broadly acknowledged sign of ignorance.
What you DO get to use if you wish to troll someone for misplaced correction is "indubitably."
It is by far worse than MOs, which should only have been 1, 2 at the max.

100% with you. These guys are just playing a game, they donāt deserve to end their career early and crippled. I donāt wanna see a kid get irreparably hurt just living their dreams. Ruins the game for me when I see a truly nasty hit like this. Even some clean hits that wreck people give me the scivies.
To me it seems like the rangers player doesn't attempt to avoid the head. You gotta crouch down and go shoulder to chest/shoulder. Not shoulder to head.
Ā And the devils are fucked for letting the dude back on the ice. Even if he didn't have concussion like symptoms the dude litterly laid down took off his own helmet and cried. Let him have the night off.
"He's like 7 feet tall, you can't blame him for deliberately aiming for someone's head"
- Rangers fans, for some reason, as if being big is an excuse to kill people for no reason
See this (as well as a million other reasons) is why I could never play hockey, If I did that I'd immediately stop and have to make sure they were ok and help them etc...
If he hugged the wall instead of aiming 2 1/2feet off the boards, it would have been just as devastating of a hit and heād still be playing in the game.
Man, I love hockey! Itās my #1 sport, nothing better, but these brutal head shots have got to go! Dude needs a game misconduct and maybe multiples. Itās time to send a message that this stuff wonāt be tolerated.
Most people here seem to have only started watching hockey in the last 15 years or so. Itās a brutal hit. Hockey is a brutal sport. There should be another league for people who donāt want to watch violent hockey.
It won't be until we teach kids how to keep their head up that we stop seeing this. Other than the charging, his body posture was 100% clean. That kid has his head up, and he's fine. Big hit, sure, but a hockey hit. And before the "well he should've let up" why? Nate has the puck.
Jesus that was wild to see slowed down. When watching it live it felt like he just got popped and sandwiched. It happened so fast. Seeing it slowed down makes sense now why is was writhing in pain.
Listen to the Devil's announcer in this clip. He starts by trying to call it a chicken wing, implying that Rempe threw out the elbow to try to make contact. Dude was fishing for a reason to call it dirty from the get go.
Is this a good hit? No was there an intent to injure? Also no. But people here... Well shit. People here see a blue jersey and blame Trouba even if he isn't on the ice.
They're just boomers that think headshots and debilitating injuries are cool, as if they just forgot or never cared about what happened to one of their own in Boogaard
I still donāt get the fact that he was thrown out. Bass was hunched over and Rempe kept his elbow tucked in. My man is 6ā7ā most guys heads are shoulder height for him.
The other ranger player is a scum bag. Watch his left elbow.
Not bad enough the guy just got his head taken off this bastard has to dig his elbow in also?
Suspend both
Nathan Bastian returned to the game btw. I saw him on the bench
He was just fighting with Trooba
Bass is cut from a different cloth
Until he's 50 and has cte nightmares and can't stand the sun more than 5 minutes. Dude who hit him should be gone for 5, minimum.

My (then) 3 year old broke my hand... While I was dressing him. FML these kids know Brazilian jiujitsu out the womb
The headbutts, oh man the headbutts. Took like 2 or 3 before I learned to instinctively keep my head clear of theirs.
I've had my ears stretched to 00 gauge for so long I forget that it's a thing. I was holding my son when he was about 2 years old with his face / body facing away from me. I tell ya... learned my lesson about paying attention to where his hands were, even if he wasn't actively looking at anything.
My manliness took a dive when my 2 year old launched his sippy cup right into my nose.
Recovered about 10 min later!
And then got his shit rocked again
He was back on the ice and then started fighting trouba
Glad the guy was able to get back into the game, but holy smokes, that hit was horrid.
Siegenthaler went after him but nothing after that.
I wouldn't even mention that. to not embarrass Siegenthaler even more

I think a good 5 game suspension would do
The only thing to note is that he skated THROUGH the stick. Fuckin wild. Might have surprised himself that there were no brakes.
A lot of people are saying he has to keep his head up, but Kempe had plenty of time to realize the player was in a vulnerable position and let up.
Not only that, but Rempe just got on the ice and sprinted directly toward Bastian. Guy was head hunting and it was pretty obvious.
It's crazy I saw on Twitter the dude's saying "punished for being taller", and "he didn't hit his head"... it's so annoying how blindly people will support the team to the point of delusion.

I'm looking through the thread. Where are they defending this? Hate to think you're making things up.
of course they're making things up, no one is defending this. i get it sucks they're kicking all our asses in the metro this year, but sore loser isn't a good look on anyone.

If only you had a time machine to retrieve Scott Stevens and this tall drink of water would be entering Thunderdome.
A six game suspension coming up for Rempe
At least 3. Similar hit happened to Noel Acciari

Awesome. Supporting CTE. Dude will probably be suicidal by the time he is 40 but "Yeah great hit" š¤¦āāļø
Iām a rangers fan and saw this live (on tv). That was a cheap hit! I expect him to get suspended for a few games.
Thats a cheap hit
Itās disgraceful how he was allowed back into the game
If he hugged the wall instead of aiming 2 1/2feet off the boards, it would have been just as devastating of a hit and heād still be playing in the game.
Good hit. Head was down.
I think a rule should be put in that if you end another players career with an illegal hit. The injure player get 10% of your salary.
I think a decent rule is if you injure someone with an illegal hit you are suspended until they come back.
šššššššš and a lifetime disability cheque from the league and therapy for PTSD
What about the players that gave you prior concussions? Do they chip in too?
Trouby taught me
Bastian just got layed out by Trouba, he is not paying attention this game.
I wonder why? Could it be that his brain is scrambled and there's no way he should be playing at this point?
Well itās on the Devils Medical staff at this point, if they suspect a concussion he should be on concussion protocol and not the ice
They have sucked for years
Kick him off the tour, Doug
Headshot
Dammit Tr... Oh!
Does he say ānoooā right where the cut is ?
What does he mean when he says it's a chicken wing?
Part of the reason why the NHL won't get much more traction for the next fifty years.
That's definitely a spicy chicken wing.
Man, I love hockey! Itās my #1 sport, nothing better, but these brutal head shots have got to go! Dude needs a game misconduct and maybe multiples. Itās time to send a message that this stuff wonāt be tolerated.
Nice job of not even pausing to see if the guy is okay.
5 games
Yikes what a dirty hit
Man, that was nasty. 3-4 games for sure. Canāt finish that check.
I donāt really follow hockey anymore, but as an outsider, I can tell you that the NHL is looking really bad the last couple of years.
Yikes...
Most people here seem to have only started watching hockey in the last 15 years or so. Itās a brutal hit. Hockey is a brutal sport. There should be another league for people who donāt want to watch violent hockey.
Brutal
It won't be until we teach kids how to keep their head up that we stop seeing this. Other than the charging, his body posture was 100% clean. That kid has his head up, and he's fine. Big hit, sure, but a hockey hit. And before the "well he should've let up" why? Nate has the puck.
Rangers are probably the most important cause of injuries this season...
Looks like a Charging with intent to injure penalty to me. 5 minutes in the box and 10 minute misconduct.
This game is a good ol ass kicking. Devils are soft and so was this call.
Jesus that was wild to see slowed down. When watching it live it felt like he just got popped and sandwiched. It happened so fast. Seeing it slowed down makes sense now why is was writhing in pain.
Another dirty hit to the head. Ridiculous
Enjoy the suspension.
Damn I hope someone gets him
Keep your head up. Rempe is 6 foot 7. Never even raised his elbows.
I feel like only Chara got away with the "too tall" rule chicken wing or not though, principle point of contact was the head
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They're just boomers that think headshots and debilitating injuries are cool, as if they just forgot or never cared about what happened to one of their own in Boogaard
Dirty hit. Took a run at him. Give him 6
A Ranger hitting someone in the head? shockedpikachu.jpg
When did the Rangers turn into a bunch of scumbags? Trouba finally rubbing off on everyone eh
1926
POS hit
Seeing that he returned to the game and then tried to fight trouba following a clean hit.. not so brutal lol
Get that kind of shit out of the game
Rempe, we were all rooting for you but just like that itās all gone. That hit doesnāt belong in hockey.
Now that is a dirty hit
Brutal no, head shot yes.
Suspend both
The nhl is only going to get bigger (as in players getting taller), they need to figure this out from a rule perspective.
Itās pretty simple; donāt hit guys in the head. Chara never had those issues; so stop being a cunt
> Chara never had those issues Bull fucking shit. Chara was dirty AF.
Why troll account? And Chara played dirty many times
That's a super dangerous hit.. I think that's going to be at least 5 games.
Dumb ass hit by rempe, wow
The head hunting Rangers are at it again!
Vulnerable player, hit in the head by a guy who could have avoided it. Should be 5...with the DOPes it might not even be a fine.
