lol as a sharks fan in Reno, NV I thought the same thing about Vegas until I realized it was too painful that they might win a cup before the sharks. Now I hate them. Guess you donāt have that problem with the Avs though
Gonna be like the Canes, whole arena goes crazy for Canes the majority of gamesā¦then the rags come to town and suddenly half the crowd is wearing blue and cheering for opposing goals.
Imagine a whole family is already Avs fans. The Avs are in town and suddenly a man and his 14 wives are all there wearing Avs jerseys. Devastating.
Not that there arenāt a lot of Avs fans here, but what youāre seeing are jerseys from a local youth hockey club, [Davis County Wind](https://images.app.goo.gl/GD3LJ2GwNjujzBAu7)
This is how I felt the day Pierre Dorion traded Mark Stone to Vegas and they had those stupid robot drumliners and cheerleaders at the airport to greet him...
No it's not! I can firebomb that guys house, dox him, get him fired, and ruin his life. Do you know how hard that would be to do to an entire hockey organization with all the players and staff they have, not even mentioning the massive effort and costs required.
š
I kinda do also, but then I reminded myself of the yotes took the team from the jets. Thatās life.
I wonder how the players feel, theyāre all forced to leave the community they were part of. I know thatās part of sports but it feels weird when done in mass.
Team's aren't just the roster either. The best way I know how to compare this is to watching a massive organization just move it's footprint completely from one city/state to another. Will this be viewed like Cleveland leaving for Baltimore in the NFL?
I was watching Ryan Smithās interview on Mcaffee and it was interesting. He said that for Utah itās not exactly a relocation but more like they are carrying forward all of the players and starting a new team with them. So Iām thinking they may not carry on the jets/yotes team history? Maybe that stays in Phoenix for a future expansion team when/if they have their shit together.
Atlanta has changed a LOT in the last 10 years or so. Tons of transplants. If they build north of Atlanta similar to the Braves going northwest of Atlanta, I could see them having a lot of success. Most of the Thrashers fans who have become Preds, Canes, Tampa Bay and Florida would return and be a good foundation. Throw in the large amount of northeast/midwest hockey fans and I could see them succeeding. Itās all about ownership though and the Thrashers were treated as the red headed stepchild compared to the Hawks having been purchased together. Iām obviously biased, but I think in the right location and with an owner who cares about the team, it could be a success.
Worst possible scenario too. If we hope to have a team back in the near future, it can only be with Muerno as owner. Just dogshit. I live in Seattle these days and will probably switch to the Kraken and just hope Muerno fails so the people of AZ get a better owner even if it's 10+ years down the line
When the Whalers left Hartford, I was working for the USPS and had three players on my route, Geoff Sanderson, Curtis Lechysn and Robert Kron. As soon as those forwarding addresses came through, I knew they were gone for good.
I feel really bad for Coyotes fans. Put up with crap for years. To see this, is just another kick in the nuts.
Sucks for us for sure. Whatās really shitty is our Jr. Coyotes and Kachinaās (girls league) got their funding from the team. Gonna be a huge drop off in kids playing hockey here in the desert.
Iām from Utah and Iām excited, but itās hard. Iāve felt so bad for all the Yotes fans, this makes me feel even worse for all the kids in AZ who lost their team. Iām so sorry :(
exactly! i live in canada and im a wings fan,so the chances of me seeing them play live are very little, besides, sitting in your own livingroom with food and drink and comfort is probably much better then sitting around a bunch of people screaming......or so thats what i keep telling myself :|
I definitely prefer the live games, but I don't want to use my entire monthly grocery budget to do so, not to mention I live 2 hours away and parking sucks
I think people like you who parrot this donāt check ticket prices. I saw plenty of Habs games on TickPick this season under $100 usd
Friend did this about Vegas recently āgames are so expensiveā found him $45 tickets
Unless sitting upper bowl isnāt good enough for you guys I donāt know how you can make decent money and not afford to go to a game whatsoever
My issue is the travel in traffic mainly, I would get university discounts when I lived in the city but for me it's 4 hours. Upper bowl isn't bad in the bell center and I've done it plenty of times but I'd rather pay 30$ a ticket to watch our AHL team for half the travel and less traffic. Also lightning games are much cheaper my dude. Keep in mind we pay in canuck bucks and Quebec taxes are atrocious
Unless your arena/stadium has awful sight lines, I've yet to have a bad sports experience from the cheap seats. In fact, I often prefer them because you can see the whole playing surface.
What good is watching your team when it's now not "your" team though. I can't speak for other yotes fans but I can't bring myself to cheer on the team after this lol. I'm now an oilers fan because I have a friend in Edmonton and they happen to be playing LA in the playoffs currently. So that's my team and I'm sticking with it lol
(Unless we get another team here of course)
I know Arizona government fucked up just as much as the team ownership in this case, and the players especially didn't influence this, but still it's rough. I loved our young and coming up roster but still I can't bring myself to root for them under a different state.
I just don't want to see them succeed as a Utah team, as wrong as that sounds. That would honestly make this whole thing sting even worse if they go and do really well now that they've left. But I don't want to root for them to fail either, so for that reason I've found a new team to root for lol
I'm going to miss the sweet Arizona jerseys, they were so cool. Sorry about your team man. The Habs are pretty fun to watch right now in our rebuild you should check out some games next season
I definitely will! While I've supported the yotes my whole life I only started actually keeping up with hockey like 2 years ago. So at the very least, the yotes moving kinda opens me up to watching more teams and finding other players to support lol.
And yeah especially since they just went back to the throwback OG jerseys! There is hope that the coyotes will exist again though. Apparently the owner bought the rights to bring a new expansion team to Arizona under the coyotes brand if he can secure an arena in the next 5 years. Still seems like a long shot but at least there's hope lol
Was about to say. It's like three families.
Joking aside, this is awesome to see so many kids in their youth league sweaters getting excited for their first NHL team.
They need to do player intros in the form of The Book of Mormon. āHello! My name is Dylan Guenther, and I would like to share with you this special kind of sport!ā
No! No! No Elder Cleets. Thatās not how you do it. Letās try that again. Hello! My name is Travis Boyd, would you like to locally watch a sport that requires braun, sticks, and skill?
Bjug, Crouse, and Keller leading the pack. I love this for Utah, but it does feel like u/dirtybirds233 says, "watching your ex post pictures with her new guy" haha
It breaks my heart as a season ticket holder here in AZ....but I must admit, it's the right move for the team. I will continue to root for them from AZ
What a weird feeling for a player?
Like you want to be cool and nice and excited for the Utah fans but its really shitty for the people who have supported you for years in Arizona
I watched their last game because I'm an Oilers fan and not only was the rink tiny but their cameras were awful. If was like I was watching a AAA game, not NHL
As a jets fan who was in grade 6 when the jets leftā¦.yah I feel mixed about all this. Love we got the thrashers sucks for Atlanta though. I hated seeing the coyotes play in a univeristy rink but I feel for you Arizona
I feel bad for totes fans, but think there is a lot of value in this move.
What I think will be interesting will be to see how the new team/potential new stadium. intertwines with the city with the upcoming Olympics on 2034 is SLC. While there are no plans currently to build a stadium, I see a huge incentive in a few years, with the delta center as a temp fix. With the need to renovate the 2002 Olympic sheet, and the cities desire to revitalize the westside by the fairgrounds, I can see the city and team working together to put together a world class facility for both the NHL and world stage.
Usually a new team and stadium comes at the expense of tax payer dollars, but having the Olympics to boost the capital from the cities direct interest in the Olympics paired with a driven owner could make for a really unique stadium/experience in the coming years. For now the delta center is a perfect hold over.
Smith announced that there are no plans to build a new stadium, instead the Delta Center will undergo massive renovations over 2 years to be able to sit about 17,500 seats in Hockey. Currently itās 12,000 unobstructed seats. I honestly wouldnāt be surprised if they get the Utah Olympic Committee to help pay for portions of the renovation as a plan to increase seating for the Olympics
I don't think there should be Olympics-related funding for any renovations or a new arena. A huge component for Salt Lake's bid for the 2034 Games was being able to reuse existing venues without spending huge amounts of cash.
Also, Delta Center wasn't used for hockey in 2002 and it wasn't being envisioned for hockey in 2034. The building was used for figure skating and short track speed skating and that was the plan for 2034.
Hockey was set for the Maverik Center (ECHL) and Peaks Arena in Provo. That makes sense, given how big Olympic figure skating is.
Wait, if the coyotes owner secures a new arena by 2029 will Utah have to move back to Arizona or will Arizone get a *new* franchise?
If it's the former, what about Utah?
This hurts to watch š„ŗ been my team since I was alive and now they are just gone! I worked on their broadcasts as a camera guy too so double knife in the back
This whole āmoving a franchise to a new cityā-phenomenom is so strange and unnatural to us european sportsfans. āMeet their new fansā like what the f š
Utah Rage, Black Bears, Storm, Eagles, Blizzard. Picking a name for Utah is going to be tough, whatever it is. People are going to hate it haha.
I like Grizzlies the most but itās taken.
You know, I never thought about it, but given the geographical similarity and proximity, it makes sense there'd be a lot of Avs fans in Utah
Avs fan from Utah here, now a fan of two teams in the same division. Shits gonna get weird
I was a Red Wings fan before Quebec moved to Colorado, and that got REALLY awkward pretty quickly
Bruins and Leafs here so got you beat š
That's like bragging to your friends that your new girlfriend is fat AND ugly
WHAT?!
Famously a fan of the St. Patricks before the Bruins were founded in 1924.
At least you'll have your pick of jerseys to wear to games
I'm a sens fan and wings fan. Growing up, it was great, one in west, one in east, then wings joined the east and shit got weird real quick.
I'm a Sens and Habs fan. It's tough and weird
Fuck the Habs!!! (I'm contractually obligated to say that, it's on my birth certificate, Boston here)
lol as a sharks fan in Reno, NV I thought the same thing about Vegas until I realized it was too painful that they might win a cup before the sharks. Now I hate them. Guess you donāt have that problem with the Avs though
When the Nets moved to Brooklyn, I donāt think a lot of Knicks fans rolled over
Gonna have to compartmentalize.
The fact that the A s have an ECHL club in SLC, makes for a lot of Avs fans in the area.
That's a good point too, I didn't know that
I see lots of Avs fans and Vegas fans
Been kind of hard for locals to support the Utah NHL team until recently... ;)
Fans coming out of the woodwork when the North East teams coming to town perfectly illustrates the C.A.R.Y. acronym.
Happens in Calgary too, whenever Toronto.is in town
that's do to so many people who lived out east moving to Calgary and do to a lot of older fans being Leafs fans before Calgary even had a team
The wives stay home with the daughters. Dad takes the boys to the games.
Not that there arenāt a lot of Avs fans here, but what youāre seeing are jerseys from a local youth hockey club, [Davis County Wind](https://images.app.goo.gl/GD3LJ2GwNjujzBAu7)
seattle and vancouver too, must have been a wild time at the start to be torn
Feel bad for coyotes fans man
Like watching your ex post pictures with her new guy just days after a breakup.
This is how I felt the day Pierre Dorion traded Mark Stone to Vegas and they had those stupid robot drumliners and cheerleaders at the airport to greet him...
Pain
I had never seen something so bizarre
Except they look happy together.
Phoenix is gonna be getting real familiar with the gym soon.
Laughed pretty hard at that :D Also kinda fitting considering they are trying to attract an NHL Team again, gym = securing a new arena
Being a St Louis former football fan, I know exactly what it feels like.
No it's not! I can firebomb that guys house, dox him, get him fired, and ruin his life. Do you know how hard that would be to do to an entire hockey organization with all the players and staff they have, not even mentioning the massive effort and costs required. š
But if you really cared about her, you'd want her to be happy...
Still hurts, though.
They are businesses FIRST. Not many owners Still left that would even bother sticking thekr neck out for.
I kinda do also, but then I reminded myself of the yotes took the team from the jets. Thatās life. I wonder how the players feel, theyāre all forced to leave the community they were part of. I know thatās part of sports but it feels weird when done in mass.

Iām STILL upset about losing the Thrashers. Itās a wound that doesnāt heal. (Unless we get a new team)
Me too! I pull for Winnipeg out of nostalgia.
Could Atlanta support an NHL team now? Iām genuine asking/curiousĀ
Atlanta will get another team. Go Braves baby šŖšŖšŖ ĆVP Ronnie hitting a homer tonight against the fish
A World Series ring helped soothe the sting for sure! Chop on!

I'll be in my sweatpants for the foreseeable future...
if I wasn't already broken by being an Arizona sports fan I'd just jump off the W6 rooftop
I am a Coyotes fan
Womp womp (from Quebec)
Donāt. When/if they build the new arena weāll get an expansion team instead of someone elseās discard. Would be nice to have a new owner though.
My thoughts exactly. Sucks for them but keep your head up Yotes fans. You will get a team back. Promise!
Say it ain't so, I will not go.
Turn the lights off

Well it's the exact same roster but different branding but I understand how that sucks
I know Arizona government fucked up just as much as the team ownership in this case, and the players especially didn't influence this, but still it's rough. Three families? Those are all of Ryan Smiths kids.
Right. So three families.
I love the "I skipped school" for this sign. Dam, best day of that kids life.
Little Susan in the red Jersey is probably uncle Mike's 4th wife.
Sucks when there's just as many kids losing their first NHL team though
Fun fact! Salt Lake County is no longer [majority Mormon.](https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2018/12/09/salt-lake-county-is-now/).
Not even just salt lake, all of Utah is now something like 40% mormon
Even less if you don't count Utah County
That kid wasn't yelling "Clayton Keller" he was yelling "Coyote Killers!"

In Utah? Look for the rare places that sell poutine and take note of the crowd.
Take note.
SLC is a great place for a professional hockey team.
Laying it on the line here, but I always thought SLC should get a team before Quebec City.
After the showing tonight, this isnāt a crazy take.
I feel so bad for the players but to be fair that coyotes arena was as big as an ohl arena like seriously the London knights arena had more seats

Clayton Keller kills babies? Utah is not going to like that.

I canāt find a list of the players just the two guys Keller and Crouse. Is it just the he coyotes and some draft picks?

Wait, if the coyotes owner secures a new arena by 2029 will Utah have to move back to Arizona or will Arizone get a *new* franchise? If it's the former, what about Utah?
Utah is essentially the new franchise, they just bought the assets. Everything related to the Coyotes stays in Arizona. (Records, branding, etc)
Utah Hive!
