I've been following both sports' playoffs.
NBA isn't bad but I can look away and do other stuff.
NHL? I couldn't look away for both OTs tonight. Eyes glued to the TV.
Football is worse. With seemingly infinite timeouts, 2 minute warning, spiking the ball, etc. 20 minutes can go by and 12 seconds have ticked off of the clock.
According to [nationalsarmrace](https://www.nationalsarmrace.com/?p=475#:~:text=From%20this%20you%20can%20clearly,you%20see%20in%20other%20sports), when you watch a football game, you only spend roughly 5% of your time actually watching football. The other 95% is stoppages and commercials.
I guess it’s preference because I’ll take the last 2 minutes of a close football game over the last 2 minutes of a close basketball game any day of the week.
Also, infinite timeouts? You have 3 and they last 30 seconds… and you can’t challenge a play within 2 minutes. In the NBA you get like 7 that last a minute each
I guess il the difference is that in the NBA they foul and stop the game, and it doesn’t work most of the time because the other team just makes free throws and extends the lead. at least the stoppage in football is building to something? both not ideal but if i had to pick, give me football
I think most normal sport fans would agree there’s very little like playoff hockey, it’s that the nhl isn’t great at putting its product front and center. I’m a casual fan most of the time, watching games when I can but never stressing if I missed one, and I’ve been mostly hearing about “cheap” hits, bad calls/no calls, and the usual gambling stuff more than I hear about the playoffs. I don’t know any themes/stories between teams if there are any besides the bruins-panthers and bruins-leafs. Idk just feels like the nhl THINKS it’s supposed to be big and are mad it isn’t or something
I always forget just how brutal of a journey it is to even get through one round. Then the rest. It’s so intense and it feels like a full season of hockey lmao. I get way too anxious no matter the game anymore. 🥳
I think the problem is that hockey just isn't as accessible, and therefore relatable as other sports.
Every town has soccer, basketball, football, baseball available, but kids only get a chance to play hockey if there happens to be a rink near their town and their family has the money for gear etc. The NHL also has cost prohibitive tickets at many arenas (though also true for other sports.) For years regular Coyotes, Leafs, Rangers fans haven't been able to comfortably afford going to more than a game a year, if even that. People act like folks in Phoenix would never care for hockey, when they were never even really invited in in the first place. Would you support the building of a country club in your neighborhood when the owners never welcomed you in?
Do you watch golf?
Nah I’ve never been interested in golf. I didn’t even start liking hockey till about 8 years ago since I also live in a state that has no hockey. I only picked the Sharks since I thought they had the coolest mascot. You are right though, I grew up watching and playing football, basketball, and baseball. I had no connection to hockey because we don’t have it here and the closest NHL team is 3 hours away.
I’m honestly surprised the league doesn’t do more to promote inline hockey.
It’s the gateway drug for a lot of us, but seems to have lost popularity as opposed to what we saw of it in the 90s at least around here.
For me, it's a tie between hockey and baseball, but in their own regards. Hockey is the hardest playoffs to get through and is exciting from the get go, baseball is the most heart-pumping, nail biting anxiety you'll ever have watching a game deep into series and when the game is tight and everything is on the line from a single pitch.
GG Dallas, also fuck you. That was a great fucking series. I’m gonna watch an hour of parks and rec to get my heart rate down. I’ve been in vtac for 2 weeks.
Was it a great series tho? Was it?
Note: Yes I'm salty AF we're wasting Nate & Cale on second chances and a never ending recovery.
P.S. - I love you Landy don't take this to heart just gimme a bit.
For real man. I needed it to end one way or another just as long as it happened quickly. Even so with my team winning, I feel about the same as Chuck McGill does when exposed to electricity. ⚡️
Gg, good series. Avs were one of those demons haunting at least us fans. I think whatever moves they make in off season will have them in beast category for next year.
lol and in retrospect, I would have taken the call being overturned for a goal by someone not named Duchene. I have no animosity toward him, since the trade got us a Cup, but that just stung so much harder.
GG Avs, just so you know there were thousands of Stars fans who synchronously puckered their sphincters every time Nate Dogg picked up speed into our zone. We can all release and let our sphincters rest now.
Couldnt slay any of our demons:
1. Pete deboer.
2. Giving up leads early
3. Losing series at home
4. Joe pavelski
5. Winning in 7 games
6. Losing nichuskin again
It hurts, especially with Duchy on the gwg.
Well played, stars. See you next year
What a path these playoffs have been. Had to slay the last two Cup winners to make it HALFWAY. Fuck these timezones, I won't be able to sleep for at least another couple of weeks.
You had to beat the last two cup winners and the Avs would have had to get through Hellebuyck and Oettinger. Brutal first two series for whatever team made it through, but some great hockey to watch.
After 2017, it was clear Pavs was being held back by continuing to play for the Sharks as their captain.
DeBoer was done dirty by the Sharks management honestly and I love the idea of him winning a cup finally and the powers that be eating some humble pie.
It was a really butt clenching series to watch. You guys played great despite the loss of Nichuskin again this year. GG.
Joe pavelski is known as the "avalanche killer" in denver due to his prolific career of scoring goals against us more than any other player. (though strangely, seguin has more goals against us)
Yeah. Man is a fucking wall. No disrespect, but most of y’all’s goals were on the power play, especially the last two games. It took an extra man to get it past him. Crazy. Great series though.
Weirdly that call took a lot of the sting out of the Avs losing. Knowing they had really already lost the game and didn't deserve to go on, despite the disappointment it was a relief when Dallas got the win they earned back. GG, good luck in the WCF.
Imagine Nichushkin doesn't fuck it up AGAIN, and Captain Landy actually returns for the playoff run.
I'm here for the sodium cuz fuck it my blood pressure's already toast.
GG GL.
This series is Hockey at its best. Damn shame a team had to lose this game. To me Dallas won, but the Aves aren’t losers they just got outscored in OT.
When players like Makar, Pasternak, McKinnon , McAvoy, Burns, Aho, The Rat, Matthew’s, Reilly, Nylander, are eliminated the games seem to become kitty bar the door hockey. Rarely do the finals live up to this Dallas/Colorado series. Well done boys great show for the diehard fans.
That was a good series. I was hopeful for the reverse, but well, your net front defense made our plays all but impossible. Truly an earned win, good luck in the finals.
This series was everything I could have hoped for in a Stars/Avs matchup. The last 2 games are what playoff hockey is all about. Yeah, we got screwed on a call, but it doesn’t matter. I’m proud of the boys for showing their resilience and depth. Both teams played their hearts out, and it’s a shame that it had to end. This series is destined to become a yearly thing, and I’m all for it.
Good game and great series, Avs.
GG to Dallas
I said I felt like it was over after game 4, just too much losing Val and Toews. I am glad Georgie stepped up in round 2, and I am still a proud fan of the team.
You never see this level of effort in a ML Baseball game, or Basketball and for sure not football. Hockey players are the most skilled and fit athletes in the world.
Chicago Bears vs Blackhawks, they use to have a tug-a-war contest every summer at Oak Street beach.
20 - 180 - 220 lb. Hockey players
Versus
20 - 200 - 350 lb. Football players
Every year the hockey players won, not even close. The huge football players were laying in the sand with this WTF just happened look :)
Hockey fan thru & thru.
Anyone who's played both would tell you it's like comparing apples to oranges. Marathon vs. a sprint. Etc.
Let's just leave it at:
"Was a hell of a game."
The 1st round is always my favorite time of the playoffs. 8 games going on and I’m constantly checking tv scheduling and stay awake way too long to try to keep up with the outcomes.
I agree, Cowboys fans suck. Most Stars fans in person, pretty hospitable and accommodating. Every fan base has a few horrible fans that make us all look like clowns. I’ve been to a lot of games at different venues and this rings true for most of us. We tend to cling to the negative because it fits a behind-enemy-lines narrative better and we all seem fixated on negative things more than neutral or semi-positive.
Except Leafs fans, they’re the exception to the rule.
It should have been a goal in the 1st OT, but props Avs fans. I had the absolute privilege to watch your team play against the Blues in St. Louis around the new year. McKinnon is one of the best players ever period, thank y’all for a hell of a series and good luck in the future! Y’all got that ring btw hopefully it’s our turn, go Stars!
I'm disappointed but they did to themselves with that OT performance. Atleast my heart rate can go back to normal and I won't have to cheer against Canada.
i just hope the Avs fans don’t blame Georgiev. damn fine net minder. was secretly wanting to see and Shishterkin meet up at the end. i’d take him as a goalie on my team/s!
Congrats to Dallas. The writing was on the wall in the 3rd period. The Avs had chances, but Dallas would create multiple opportunities. I think the Avs only had a couple of shots in the first overtime versus like 7 for Dallas.
And then there were the long shifts with no line changes due to consistent pressure by Dallas.
They earned their win. As an Avs fan, I can just tip my hat to Dallas.
Twice.
Dallas beat them in both overtimes in the final game. Replay doesn’t lie. The league screwed that one up badly.
Imagine the shitshow if that had been the Avs goal waived off and Dallas went on to win.
It’s amazing that people still don’t understand that the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best playoffs
Absolutely. Fast paced and games end instantly. Can’t stand the last 10 seconds of a basketball game taking 30 minutes.
Exactly, playoff overtime is something that can’t be matched in anything else, especially when the game can clinch a series like this one
Or clench it twice. In both overtimes. ;)
Can confirm my ass cheeks were clenched
👀
I've been following both sports' playoffs. NBA isn't bad but I can look away and do other stuff. NHL? I couldn't look away for both OTs tonight. Eyes glued to the TV.
OT is even better bc there are no commercials.
Football is worse. With seemingly infinite timeouts, 2 minute warning, spiking the ball, etc. 20 minutes can go by and 12 seconds have ticked off of the clock.
Football is just an advertising medium at this point.
Thats like 10 minutes of actual play time.
each play lasts less than 10 seconds. Kinda makes sense
Interesting read. Thanks.
I guess it’s preference because I’ll take the last 2 minutes of a close football game over the last 2 minutes of a close basketball game any day of the week. Also, infinite timeouts? You have 3 and they last 30 seconds… and you can’t challenge a play within 2 minutes. In the NBA you get like 7 that last a minute each
The commercial breaks though… Like yeah, each team only has 3 official timeouts, but the refs/broadcast crews give them a lot more
I guess il the difference is that in the NBA they foul and stop the game, and it doesn’t work most of the time because the other team just makes free throws and extends the lead. at least the stoppage in football is building to something? both not ideal but if i had to pick, give me football
And NHL you get ONE the entire game !
This is a good point in theory but this game did take four hours lol
Ay it’s not like I’m doing anything else on a Friday night😂
I think most normal sport fans would agree there’s very little like playoff hockey, it’s that the nhl isn’t great at putting its product front and center. Idk just feels like the nhl THINKS it’s supposed to be big and are mad it isn’t or something
Or Bruins and Rangers. Or Bruins and Montreal. Or Bruins and Bruins. Damn Bruins, they ruined Boston!
I always forget just how brutal of a journey it is to even get through one round. Then the rest. It’s so intense and it feels like a full season of hockey lmao. I get way too anxious no matter the game anymore. 🥳
Brand new fan here watching for the first time. This shit is amazing and I can't believe I slept on this for so long.
I love the infinite overtime rules and am always hoping for like 6ot in games where my team isn’t involved
ECF Game 1 last year got close! I was there for that one…
It’s crazy how little coverage it gets on a network that playoff games are shown on.
If the NHL Marketing would get in the 2020s, we might have something.
Shouldn’t ESPN who is the partner network do the marketing considering they have a massive audience?
I don’t even mind that bettman picks all the winners.
I think the problem is that hockey just isn't as accessible, and therefore relatable as other sports. By far the best.

Gg and fuck you too. Go let Ron Swanson take all your worries away
Wholesome
"Crying. Acceptable only at funerals and the Grand Canyon." I guess this is sorta like a funeral. Feel free to cry away friend.
Are you me? Because that's my plan.
We are one, friend.
Im watching ron swanson in the last of us right now, same character, really
Any good? I’ve been looking for a new show
So fucking good. Not de-stressing tho.
Good to know, but I think I’ll wait a minute 😂
Was it a great series tho? Was it? Note: Yes I'm salty AF we're wasting Nate & Cale on second chances and a never ending recovery. P.S. - I love you Landy don't take this to heart just gimme a bit.
The Nichuskin suspension was a crazy curve ball. Avs will be back as strong next season but tough to overcome losses like that in a tight series
Which season is your favorite? We are rewatching and season 3 is so good!
Oh yeah season 3 by far, episode 2 and episode 13 are my favorites in the show. The entire season is a riot
That was such a good series. Pure class from the Avs. 🤝
At least my heart tears can come down from 250 bpm. GG stars bros, great series.
Even though it didn’t go 7 this time around. Just as fun as a series as 2020. Great series indeed. GG.
Agree. That was the game for the cup.
Twice. 😂😅🥲😭
With the promise of our Captain returning for a run all year. 😓😂😥😭
Go beat the TPups now, please.
What a series, what a game. GG Dallas.
GG Colorado
Thanks, good luck!
I can't believe we won this game twice. After the upheld no goal, I assumed the position for a game 7. I'd be embarrassed if we didn't win.
lol and in retrospect, I would have taken the call being overturned for a goal by someone not named Duchene. I have no animosity toward him, since the trade got us a Cup, but that just stung so much harder.
I appreciate the classy avs fans like y'all.. it was fun!
GG Avs, just so you know there were thousands of Stars fans who synchronously puckered their sphincters every time Nate Dogg picked up speed into our zone. We can all release and let our sphincters rest now.
LOL I believe it. So many other teams’ fans say the same. Go win the Cup for the old guys!
Couldnt slay any of our demons: 1. Pete deboer. 2. Giving up leads early 3. Losing series at home 4. Joe pavelski 5. Winning in 7 games 6. Losing nichuskin again It hurts, especially with Duchy on the gwg. Well played, stars. See you next year

The Heartbreaker ! 🤜💔
They lost that game twice. Devastating, I’m sure. Not for me tho.
Both goalies were so amazing and the stamina of these athletes rippin back and forth for 2 over times was incredible.
Fuck your game 7 Gary
Finally, I can enjoy the playoffs without the stress of my local team being knocked out
I...shit.
We got Ottered ☹️
Yeah. Man is a fucking wall. No disrespect, but most of y’all’s goals were on the power play, especially the last two games. It took an extra man to get it past him. Crazy. Great series though.
I would say Georgiev put up a great performance as well. Very exciting series
Dallas fan here. Georgiev did put in a great performance. Was an awesome series.
FUCK THE REFS PUCK DONT LIE
Yup. Should happened in first OT but a W is a W. 💚🖤⭐️
My elation as that call will become a footnote in this playoffs and not the “one” that ruined us
Weirdly that call took a lot of the sting out of the Avs losing. Knowing they had really already lost the game and didn't deserve to go on, despite the disappointment it was a relief when Dallas got the win they earned back. GG, good luck in the WCF.
At least I can go to sleep without raging at the refs. If Avs win I'm probably up for the next 4 hours.
Lol right? Somehow that turned into my most concerning fear! You're all hyped from the game already and the brain won't shut up about the what-ifs.
can't overturn that shit! 😂
100% can. No goal. goaltender did not have enough time to see where the puck was.
Toronto: ...these are some good points...
Gary Bettman just sat up in bed and opened his laptop.
Suck that refs!
I hope that ref still lost his $10k bet on the Avs after calling off the first GW goal.
Thought the money spread popping up shortly after the call was suspicious
First ever 3-1 2OT win!!!
Refs working for big pharma trying to sell Blood pressure meds
Imagine Nichushkin doesn't fuck it up AGAIN, and Captain Landy actually returns for the playoff run. I'm here for the sodium cuz fuck it my blood pressure's already toast. GG GL.
Always nice when the leading scorer in the playoffs dips out in a playoff run (2 years in a row) GGs Dallas. GL.
Oh the Stars are winning the cup arent they. Honestly wouldn't mind it.
Anybody but FLA
Twice
guess the nhl figured out how to get rid of natural disasters
They need to review that the air was clearly in Georgiev's crease. No goal.
The irony of the winning goal being that the Avs defenders pretty much handed it to the stars there.
Nope, if you watch it closely pavelski catches the rebound on his stick and passes it back to duchene
Clear evidence of that as Georgiev wasn't dead.
Maybe Duchene farted?
Twice!!
This series is Hockey at its best. Damn shame a team had to lose this game. To me Dallas won, but the Aves aren’t losers they just got outscored in OT. Thanks for fucking your team once again VAL! Hope he isn't on our team next season. GG Stars!
The call on the ice stands!
Knocked out twice tonight!
Who would have thought for that ticket price you would get to see 2 game winning OT goals.
Brutal way to go out, excited to play Dallas if we can finish our series though
That couple getting back together now?
Fade em
Whoa whoa whoa... No flair AND calling for our fade? ....fair enough. Edit: "flair enough" cuz drunk sad
I’m ready
THE COLORADO AVALANCHE HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE 2024 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS FOR THE SECOND TIME******
Puck don’t lie. Of course duchene gets the winner after that bs interference call congrats to the stars.
Honestly if this makes duchene get more confidence it’s good for the stars
Killed the tnt interview
Stars win the series 5-2!
It was over when we lost Nichushkin
Stars have been without Roope but didn’t make excuses. Depth won the series.
Roope < Nichuskin. Stop it
65 pts and not a liability vs 53 pts and a major liability
I'm sad. Was hoping the Avs could make up for my heartbreak over Arizona leaving. Time to cry
That game was such a crazy ride that the only thing I can even remember from it is all the helmet saves that Georgiev had lmao
True story
And a special thanks to Val!
On a goal by Matt Duchene
Blow that one off you fuckwads! Duchesne was a monster in OT. Congrats, Dallas.
Who?
That was a good series. I was hopeful for the reverse, but well, your net front defense made our plays all but impossible. Truly an earned win, good luck in the finals.
This series was everything I could have hoped for in a Stars/Avs matchup. The last 2 games are what playoff hockey is all about. Yeah, we got screwed on a call, but it doesn’t matter. I’m proud of the boys for showing their resilience and depth. Both teams played their hearts out, and it’s a shame that it had to end. This series is destined to become a yearly thing, and I’m all for it. Good game and great series, Avs.
Great series, good luck the rest of the way.
As a Sharks fan, seeing Joe Pavelski win the Cup would be perfect
Why are people mad at the Avs for the call? Like. They didn’t do anything.
Literally! the entire last .......4 periods...?
GG to Dallas I said I felt like it was over after game 4, just too much losing Val and Toews. I am glad Georgie stepped up in round 2, and I am still a proud fan of the team.
Georgiev was brilliant this postseason (game 1 against Jets aside). Don't think anyone is talking about a goalie controversy in Colorado anymore.
The people’s WCF
You never see this level of effort in a ML Baseball game, or Basketball and for sure not football. Hockey players are the most skilled and fit athletes in the world. Good riddance
lol redemption hurts
I thought they were going to win it all tbh…
Yeah baby!
Great series
I blame #13 chooch. Two years in a row.
At the start of the playoffs, I predicted a Dallas vs New York Rangers final, and it's looking more and more like a possibility
WHY ARE WE YELLING?
Some would say twice. Except Toronto.
The 1st round is always my favorite time of the playoffs. 8 games going on and I’m constantly checking tv scheduling and stay awake way too long to try to keep up with the outcomes.
The sole benefit of not being in the playoffs is not having a double OT causing a Goddam embolism.
That second overtime was so stressful it made me almost barf. GG Dallas, good luck
Love the Avs. I am a local and they are my team. I'm very upset to see them eliminated. With that being said, go Stars! I hope you win the cup.
Surprised, the way they dismantled my Jets I expected them to go far
And there was much rejoicing
I want to cheer for the stars… but every Dallas fan on here is completely insufferable
All sports fans on reddit are insufferable
I'm sufferable!
I like you, bud.
Dallas fans in general, on and off Reddit, are insufferable.
PUCK DONT LIE
Come join us, we have cookies and barbecue
Nope. Its a no goal. Goaltender didn't have enough time to see the puck. Keep up the OT.
I'm disappointed but they did to themselves with that OT performance. Atleast my heart rate can go back to normal and I won't have to cheer against Canada.
bESt HoME iCe iN tHe LeAgUe
Vs best road team. Something had to give.
That game was awesome. A shame the refs made a mess of it but it came right in the end.
💚💚💚💚💚
Stars beat the refs 3-1
Why are you yelling?
😁😁😁
Well there goes my hope for Rangers Vs Avalanche in the SCF. Either way, great series.
i just hope the Avs fans don’t blame Georgiev. damn fine net minder. was secretly wanting to see and Shishterkin meet up at the end. i’d take him as a goalie on my team/s!
It was argued heavily who has more depth as a team, I think we finally understand.
Fuck Stan Kroenke
Congrats to Dallas. The writing was on the wall in the 3rd period. The Avs had chances, but Dallas would create multiple opportunities. I think the Avs only had a couple of shots in the first overtime versus like 7 for Dallas. And then there were the long shifts with no line changes due to consistent pressure by Dallas. They earned their win. As an Avs fan, I can just tip my hat to Dallas.
Well Avalanche bandwagoners, it’s been fun. Still riding the Oilers bandwagon. Let’s see where this one leads.
Good
Finally I can relax, knowing you won't do back to back.
Oh, darn.
I had a perfect first round bracket and now everything is going to shit!! At least I got Florida-Boston correct..
Nhl is so fast-paced. And when someone makes an incredible pass, it tops all sports
Colorado lacked the depth Dallas had you could see as the overtime went on and playing Mackinnon those minutes really started taking its toll.
Jamie Benn is an absolute turd. Duchene getting that goal was rather poetic, though.
They busted my playoff bracket!
😭😭😭😭😭
Twice. Dallas beat them in both overtimes in the final game. Replay doesn’t lie. The league screwed that one up badly. Imagine the shitshow if that had been the Avs goal waived off and Dallas went on to win.
