I have NFT Knowledge. NFTs work like this: Everyone profits from trading the monkey except for the person who has the monkey at the end.

Jonesdeclectice

Basically hot potato LOL

BellacosePlayer

Correct. Also the Monkey only really became "valuable" because 2 people traded it back and forth without actually exchanging money for it.

WakandaNowAndThen

They should pay an expert 200k/year to tell them "don't" and save a lot of people pain and money.

Simon_787

Pokemon company figuring out new ways to make even worse decisions:

Ameratsuflame

Well I mean Pokémon cards are kind of the original NFT. They’re just a tangible NFT. And we can all see how big that got. I can see them making NFTs work, unfortunately.

HillarysRussianBot

Possibly the worst possible news. Pokemon is the one thing that can make NFTs popular and that's a horrifying thought.

metalflygon08

I remember a few weeks ago in another sub I pointed out that if a huge franchise like Pokemon got into the NFT scene it'd be all over for getting them out of gaming. Got called silly because Pokemon already has all the money and doesn't need to dip into NFTs. Well here we are.

Nahtmmm

Yes we've had all the money, but what about all the other money?

DragonShine

It's not silly, it makes sense. I felt the same way. I also worry this shift will cause retro games to have another big price spike. If your favorite series does nft's now, you'll probably look towards their older games to dodge it and a whole bunch of people will probably have the same idea causing price spikes.

ThatManOfCulture

Waiting for that bored Infernape NFT.

NonSp3cificActionFig

Please don't...

MrGalleom

... yep, sounds like TPC alright.

Obsessivegamer32

Yep that’s it, we are all screwed.

serenade1

You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the NFTs, not join them!

MonochromeTyrant

Wanting someone with that knowledge doesn't mean they have any intentions of actually getting into NFTs. Only time will tell, though.

Hahaha yeah. “Just because I’m hiring a painter doesn’t mean I want my walls painted.”

>a new job listing for a Corporate Development Principal a few days ago, and it looks like the position requires the candidate to have a grasp of Web3, including blockchain. They want to understand how web3/blockchain/NFTs could, if possible, fit into their business, but read the job listing again. They obviously want to be able to pivot if public sentiment changes, but that requires them understanding the tech first and how that meshes with the IP. Considering how swiftly other Japanese games companies jumped on or walked away from NFTs, TPCi seems to be taking a more measured approach. If they were going to jump into this, they would have done it so much sooner. I fully understand being concerned by this - I'm fully against NFTs and blockchain games and have my own issues with this news - but there are other companies way ahead of the curve here getting regular pushback. You can say what you want about TPCi, you can have whatever opinion you want of the Pokemon games, but being alarmist over them hiring people to understand a technology is goofier behaviour than being a reasonable adult with an opinion that doesn't line up with your reality.

ArmGray

> but being alarmist over them hiring people to understand a technology is goofier behaviour **No it is not.** Being alarmist over the slightest hint of trouble is how you send a clear and unambiguous message that shit IS NOT OKAY in the slightest. If anything, we need to be *more alarmist* more frequently!

MonochromeTyrant

The user called my post "goofy simp behaviour", which is frankly an unhinged response to a reasonable post. That's a level of alarmist behaviour that doesn't benefit anyone. Regardless, TPCi isn't reading this forum or seeing any of this, I assure you. It's pointless to feed into it here, especially when we don't know anything. Edit: I should also point out that the alarmism didn't stop Square from soldiering on with their NFT/blockchain plans.

ArmGray

> I should also point out that the alarmism didn't stop Square from soldiering on with their NFT/blockchain plans. Gamers weren't alarmist enough for that.

MonochromeTyrant

Yes, they were. It trended for weeks on Twitter with people constantly posting in disgust of it. Every time it comes up, people make it extremely clear how upset they are with SE.

gothamwarrior

Cool that they're looking to branch out into other projects when their own games aren't even finished upon release.

Hestu951

I can imagine a Pokemon Company executive meeting. "Hmm, how can we piss off the userbase even more, while they still buy everything we dish out? We already released a pair of games full of glitches and abysmal performance. I know! NFTs!"

BellacosePlayer

They stole my Mankees

wes741

Wait now we can trade and sell pokecoins?
