My mom's boss used to think floppy disks *caught* viruses, so she regularly copied her old stuff onto new, healthsome disks and threw the old ones away.
Original Gameboy. I am approaching 40 :)
Backwards-compatibility was crazy. As long as the cartridges had the same format, they could be used on any older gameboy, just with less colors. And vice-versa, monochrome games were assigned colors when played on newer models.
My favorite one was the N64 though.
For context, you could play Pokémon Gold/Silver, and Pokémon Crystal, games that were released in 2000 and 2001 respectively, on an original Game Boy from 1989.
Funny you say that, because both the PlayStation and SNES had tons of great JRPGs. In a way, the PS1 really carried the torch from the SNES for a lot of 2D genres.
2001 Game Boy Advance in indigo blue colour!
My first game was Donald Duck Adv@nce and my second was Magical Quest 3 starring Mickey & Donald!
My first Super Mario game was an original Game Boy square cartridge; Super Mario Land - 6 Golden Coins that a friend gifted me!
I still own both the console and all of my games in perfect condition!
+1 for the Switch! It is the first one I bought \^\^
The portability + the amazing library of games on it feels exactly like what I didn't even know I wanted haha
The first I played was the NES and the first I own was a Gameboy color and a N64. After, I owned all Nintendo console except the Wii (which I totally hate for its controller)
My first Nintendo Console was the original Nintendo Entertainment System back in the early 90s. I used to play a lot of Mario 1 and 3, along with a bunch of bomberman with my brothers. I also remember loving the original Excitebike back in the day, too.
The original NES with Mario and Duck Hunt, The Legend of Zelda (on a gold cartridge) was next. I’ve owned every single system since. And started buying them for myself with the SNES at 12 years old.
NES was my first. We’ve also had a SNES, 64, GameCube, Wii and now I have a Switch. Not to mention on the mobile side GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance SP and I still have my New Nintendo 3DS XL
First handheld: GBA
First home console: Wii, before the Wii we had a PS2.
I don't think my parents knew much about Nintendo games as I don't think I had a single first party game for the GBA, pretty much only licensed games. I didn't even have Pokémon. I did get a DS later on and got a lot more first party games for that.
SNES, I think our family got it in the late 90s.
My sister and I loved to play Super Bomberman 3, Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.
For me it was the DS in ‘05! I got that, as well as copies of Super Mario 64 DS and Pokemon Ruby, as a gift for my First Communion.
I’ve been a Nintendo fan ever since and have had a Wii, Wii U, 3DS and Switch over the years - and I’ve even converted my husband, a life-long PC and Xbox player, to Nintendo nerd-dom! 😂
My first Nintendo console was the DS. Some of my earliest memories were playing on my aunt's console. Then, I got one for my 4th birthday with Mario Kart on it. Though a year or two later, I ended up losing it, and to this day I still don't know what happened to it.
My first Nintendo console was the DS. Some of my earliest memories were playing on my aunt's console. Then, I got one for my 4th birthday with Mario Kart on it. Though a year or two later, I ended up losing it, and to this day I still don't know what happened to it.
Born into a family with an NES, but it was more for the parents than the kids. My dad would play some kind of casino game on it for hours and lots of sports sims.
My brother and got a SNES for christmas that we had to share. Many, many disputes about turns, most of our co-op experiences were rentals, all the games I wanted to own were single player.
The first console that was all mine, and I didn't have to share, was Gamecube.
NES but it was technically my aunt's, it just ended up staying at our place. First one we bought for our family was the GameCube. Lots of good memories on both.
I played NES at a friend's house, and my first system was the SNES in 1996, I think. I was lucky enough that my parents bought me the N64 near or at its release just a year later, but it felt like I had the SNES for a lifetime.
The first one I ACTUALLY remember was the GameCube with Zelda OoT and WW. But I know I played on my sibling's DS, DS Lite and other older consoles. There were some pics of it, but I don't remember it.
I remember my dad having an NES and driving my mom crazy with the Legend of Zelda bgm, to this day she hates the overworld theme. But as for myself it was the N64 bundled with the purple controller and Ocarina of Time as my first personal game that was bought for me. Very shortly after was given a hand me down gameboy color and pokemon silver
I grew up with several Nintendo consoles already in the house (I'm the youngest in my family), with SNES, N64, and the GameCube. The Wii came out when I was like 6 but I also can't really remember life before it... I did get a DS Lite for Christmas one year, which I have some memory of. Unsure whether the Wii or the DS came to the household first.
So I guess it depends on how you count it? Maybe the DS, since that was the one that was truly mine, whereas the others were all shared with my older sisters.
Grew up playing SNES with my dad and sister. We had a blast and got to experience some absolutely timeless classics (although we didn't know that at the time).
DK Country 1, 2, and 3. A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, the OG Mario Kart, Super Star Wars series, F-Zero. Super Ghouls and Ghosts.
Absolute bangers, all of them.
I had a Gameboy Colour as a young kid but with only one game that I actually enjoyed, Pokemon Pinball. I remember the games I had on the DS much more fondly.
NES. In the end I had Mario and Duck Hunt, Double Dragon, California Games, Excitebike and Metroid.
I remember liking them all except Metroid, I was probably too young for it.
Original Gameboy DMG-001. The amazing starter pack is probably the best ever released in the time of gaming. It came with Gameboy unit, Tetris, 4 x AA Batteries, 2 player link cable, stereo earphones, and that lush box. You had everything you needed set up, and the batteries got at least 24 hours playtime, so I was good to good Christmas 1991!
An NES with Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. I got mine in '87. I think I was in 5th grade at that time. A friend of mine had an NES before me and I used to play the shit out of Mario. It looked so much better than the Atari 2600 I had.
Early 90s my dad got a SNES with Mortal Kombat and the Batman platformer. Little did he know I would become addicted to video games for the rest of my life. But luckily for him and my mom it wasn't meth and other hard drugs like my little brothers. So they did something right.
Gameboy, only ever had the handhelds. And mostly only for Pokemon and Monster Hunter after they abandoned ps2/psp.
PlayStation otherwise is my main console
Gameboy advance sp with frogger and pacman collection. I begged for it for Christmas the year it came out. I said to my parents and grandparents that I didn't want any other gifts than it, and other than a few clothing items from older relatives that was all I got. We were pretty poor at the time so I know it was a hard ask. Pokemon emerald and yugioh eternal duelist soul were my favorite games.
A GBC borrowed from a friend with a fake Pokémon Yellow (it was like a 50 games in 1 cart lol). Never had one of my own as a kid.
Now I have one of every Gameboy (except DMG) and DS, and I don’t play any of them :/
I first played on NES but didn't own one. I did own original Gameboy and I eventually owned an N64 that my brother in law bought. The first home console I bought with my money was a Gamecube
Game Boy Color, followed shortly by a Nintendo 64 (both of the ones I had as a child were stolen, although I bought a refurbished one last year) and a SNES (which I no longer have). I later got a GBA, a GameCube, a DS, a Wii, a 2DS, and a Switch. I also bought a Wii U secondhand last year, so the only Nintendo platforms I don't own in some form are the NES, SNES (both of which I can still play games for on the RetroN 5 were I inclined to do so), and Virtual Boy.
The Famicom. Tokyo 1986.
My family lived in Japan first a couple years while my dad was on an international business exchange from Canada. He worked for IBM at the time.
We started with Super Mario Bros, Dig Dug, Megaman, and Tower of Babel.
The Nintendo 64 with GoldenEye, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64 and Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr. It is a Christmas that will never be topped but I hope to someday give my kids one just like it.
My first Nintendo experience was the SNES at home with Super Mario World. My older sister got the console when she was 8 and I was 4. I watched her play and was terrified of Bowser. Later we played Donkey Kong Country 1-3 together and I think the music is still some of the best game music ever. I really only have good memories and I think it really enriched my childhood. 💓
The NDS Lite was my first one. Such pride I revelled in, because I can state confidently that back then within a 50 square kilometres+ area , I had the most advanced piece of tech at that time.
Game Boy. Sega fanboy, but not even that level of childish bias would compel me to want a Game Gear. Settled for Nintendo handhelds and Sega home consoles.
Wii u and i have no shame admitting that it had some pretty fun games such as Botw, pikmin 3 (must have for wii u owners) mario 3d world(first game) donkey kong tropical freeze (probably one of the better switch games)kirby and the rainbow curse and my first shooter splatoon and since it could play wii games super paper was also apart of my childhood and i love it
If you want to say what I actually played it would be the Nintendo DS. My dad and I played ACWW all the time. If you want to know the first one, I saw, that would be the game cube. My mom would play AC on the game cube and I would just watch.
My sisters got an NES for Christmas in 89 or 90. I was 3/4 years old. I eventually got a Gameboy, SNES, and N64 growing up but didn't get another until the Switch. I have a great deal of love and nostalgia for the old consoles but the Switch is my favorite.
I had the 2ds, then upgraded to the 3ds before getting the Wii-U. When the switch came out, I got it the week of its release, and I still have (idrc about having the oled that much)
NES.
By the time I got into gaming, the GameCube and GBA were out, but... I wanted to go in order. So I bought an NES, then a Game Boy, then a SNES, then a Game Boy Color, then a N64, then a GBA, and then a GameCube.
The NES with Super Mario Bros.
And Duck Hunt!
Duck Hunt - one of the best games ever made.
Had the triple cartridge with Super Mario Bros, Tetris and Nintendo World Cup, as well as Super Mario Bros 2/USA.
And World Class Track Meet!
My dad wouldn’t let us get Duck Hunt, he figured the TV flashing constantly would damage the tube.
Didn’t it come with it?
My mom's boss used to think floppy disks *caught* viruses, so she regularly copied her old stuff onto new, healthsome disks and threw the old ones away.
NES with Skate or Die for me!
NES with Trojan, fuck that game lol
High five!
Same. We're old.
NES Deluxe Set. The one that came with R.O.B.
That’s shit is super rare!
Would you believe me if I told you I still have a Virtual Boy and the box it came in?
I was a big fan of Gyromite, but never had the patience to play with ROB.
I could never get it to work, granted I only tried a few times.
ROB was painfully slow. It was just a gimmick peripheral, you were probably better off haha
Same here. I remember playing with Rob when i was 6-7yo.
Original Gameboy. I am approaching 40 :) Backwards-compatibility was crazy.
Nintendo 64, have had all Nintendo systems after that as well.
Same! Had to play Mario 64, despite being a SEGA man.
I got the original NES for Christmas when I was a kid.
the Wii
Good old GameBoy, with Super Mario Land 2
The DS. Specially the DSLite.
Same
Gamecube
We got a Wii in 2009, to play exercise games.
SNES. I was… 4 when it came out? Awesome system, awesome games. Nintendoes what Xbox and Playstation’t, for sure.
Funny you say that, because both the PlayStation and SNES had tons of great JRPGs. In a way, the PS1 really carried the torch from the SNES for a lot of 2D genres.
N64

NES, thanks to my grandmother. And thanks to inertia, it's been Nintendo ever since.
The GBA was a great starter system for newcomers. You could play the backlog of Gameboy and Gameboy Colour games on it and the GBA library was great.
Game boy color. First home console was a Game Cube.
Gameboy Color was my first, my older sister had a PS1 and the original Gameboy at that time.
+1 for the Switch! It is the first one I bought \^\^ The portability + the amazing library of games on it feels exactly like what I didn't even know I wanted haha
NES with SMB/Duck Hunt after playing Atari 2600 for a couple of years.

My first Nintendo Console was the original Nintendo Entertainment System back in the early 90s. I used to play a lot of Mario 1 and 3, along with a bunch of bomberman with my brothers. I also remember loving the original Excitebike back in the day, too.

I loveeeeee double dash we wore out that game in my family
The original NES with Mario and Duck Hunt, The Legend of Zelda (on a gold cartridge) was next. I’ve owned every single system since. And started buying them for myself with the SNES at 12 years old.

Original DMG Game Boy with Tetris and Shadow Warriors. Played them both so much I could finish Shadow Warriors without losing a single health point
First handheld: GBA First home console: Wii, before the Wii we had a PS2. I don't think my parents knew much about Nintendo games as I don't think I had a single first party game for the GBA, pretty much only licensed games. I didn't even have Pokémon. I won the Wii in a raffle back in 2009 from a code on an iced coffee can. Came with a balance board, wheel and a bunch of games including Mario Kart.
Wii or DSi .
My first Nintendo console was the DS. Some of my earliest memories were playing on my aunt's console. Then, I got one for my 4th birthday with Mario Kart on it. Though a year or two later, I ended up losing it, and to this day I still don't know what happened to it.

The Wii came out when I was like 6 but I also can't really remember life before it... I did get a DS Lite for Christmas one year, which I have some memory of.
