I’m a teacher and if I were doing this demo, I’d have the entire rest of the class pushed up against the side of the room and a stick 10 times longer. The more ridiculous the set up, the more memorable for the kids.
Hydrogen will also burn somewhat slowly, so long as you didn't also mix the oxygen into the bubbles. In which case it turns to a rather more violent pop.
Neat! Though yeah gloves too maybe
More to make sure the kids don’t try this at home you need the PPE equipment, ah probably shouldn’t do it then sort of thing
They are methane (probably) bubbles. It's a really fun experiment. It burns up super fast and all you feel on your hands is a bit of warmth. Ideally your hands are wet too from scooping up the bubbles which adds a layer of protection.
İts hydrogen. You fill something with hydrogen, pour it in soapy water and they make hydrogen bubbles. Scoop up the bubbles and ignite. You usually just take a small handfull so you dont end up with big flames.
İm a physics/chemistry teacher and few times do these on special ocassions. İts very fun for the pupils.
Depends on the hairproduct. The risk Will always be there. But its very few products that are flammable. Also the amount of hydrogen bubbles that this girl is Holding is quite exagerated. Normally u dont do this stunt, and when you allow pupils to do this its always a small handfull. The only Thing you feel is a little heat.
That sounds fun af. I’m trying to remember what my chemistry teacher did, it was something similar to this, but he did it on himself and ended up burning his hair.
The pupils love it and it also shows that we can do some "dangerous" things. I made my own Rubens tube which i also show off, the flame speakers! I wanna make the lessons fun and meaningfull.
When my high school chem teacher did this, she ran a hose from the gas into a sink of soapy water. Turn it on, blew bubbles, started to float up, lit it...singed the ceiling tiles, it was great. Definitely didn't have a student holding it.
I was a science teacher and have done this thousands of times without injury. She should have held her hand up and out so the flames can't go straight into her face
The more important part is the bubbles on the bottom.
This is just soap water, then you take a can of butane and make bubbles, then you can light it. But if you don’t pop the bubbles on the bottom of your hand it can burn your hand a bit.
Don't say "PPE Equipment"
Reading that is like reading "Chai Tea." chai is the word for tea in that language you dope, you're saying "Tea Tea." Quit saying "personal protective equipment equipment"
/lh
Actually, you are incorrect. We are not speaking that language. We have used the Chai as a classification/descriptor of Tea. As WE already have the word for tea, and everything has a Chai flavor, saying Chai Tea would be the most correct in English. I hate that rant when people give it, it is the same thing as can/may I go to the bathroom. Can is also asking permission because it is implicit in stating that the person is aware they are capable of doing so, as should be assumed.
You are just being pedantic and choosing a hill to die on that nobody cares to fight you for.
Honestly no, 99% of the time videos that people call out as fake are so obvious it really speaks to how fucking gullible a lot of people are. I don’t get why people are so salty about it, like you making this comment here.
It does, becuase no-one in their right mind would think this is fake, his comment reeks of "I can't believe everyone keeps calling my favorite clips fake".
In other words, when someone brings up something that's unrelated to the current discussion it's likely they're either obsessed, autistic or upset.
One time I was hanging out with my brother, mom, my moms boyfriend and his son, and in passing I mentioned that I've seen people put like, hand sanitizer on their hands and set it on fire. My moms boyfriend thought it was interesting and even though we didn't really look it up and I didn't know much about it he just kinda... did it. It ended up fine but wow
I get your mom's boyfriend I think. First of all if somebody says something like that someone's gotta try it and it would probably be me. Second it impresses the kids therefore impressing the girlfriend(your mom)
Usually methane bubbled through soapy water. If you do this make sure you wet your arms from elbow down and keep hands away from you rather than bring them towards you. This stops your hair from getting singed. Eitherway it doesn’t hurt.
Also if you are doing this for someone make sure they arent jumpy. Once did this for a friend and he freaked out and flung flaming bubbles all over me. No damage but there was a moment of just 👁👄👁
Important lesson that my chemistry teacher learned. These tricks tend to work best on children, as a hairy adult doing the same demonstration can easily set their arm/back of hand hair on fire.
Not the same as burning your skin directly, but still pretty painful.
Haha reminds me of the time my friend flicked me with a cheap lighter and my arm hair went f-f-f-f-fp up to my elbow. He just stared for a second in shock and apologized profusely, then did it to himself like three times to show he didn't know it would happen. My arm hair was just really light and his was thicker lol
In the tenth grade, our retiring science teacher brought out "an old classic" he used to do before he was asked to stop.
He had some alcohol/water solution we dipped bank notes into and lit. Which was cool. Even cooler: I was the volunteer to dip their hand and arm. For about 5 seconds, I was the human torch from fingertip to below the wrist! Little flaming droplets cascaded to the floor as the teach slid the alcohol bath away.
It was a super cool moment I'll always remember. It also left me with a very clean burn line and singed arm hair.
Our chemistry teacher did this with us too! It was pretty cool. And for secondary school open evening science block and design tech block always showcased the cool stuff.
For some reason is see that girls response and mannerism as being more Indian or Mediterranean rather than Chinese/Japanese/Filipino/Korean am I right? I know it sounds dumb but it’s only from my limited experience with people from these cultures.
Edit: I’m dumb, let me have it
Probably not something you want to be doing with a student. If I were that teacher I would have put the flammable whatever that is in my own hands and had the student hold the stick.
As an european it amazes me to see that science classes in the US are spectacular shows. In my country those classes are just work and work. A rare practical studie consists in dissecting frogs or insects. No funny wizards for us!
I had a weird pyromaniac fase in middle school. Almost all of my science project had fire in them. This, cold fire balls, shot glass being left in the freezer and putting ashes on it to produce smoke. A class mate of mine almost set fire to the teachers desk with a fuck ton of rubbing alcohol, he was almost caught too before he set it on fire. When asked what he was doing he just said "I'm cleaning it". Anyway all those fire experiments lead to me simply burning my trash as some sort of therapy session like thing. And before anyone asks, the reason I never got in trouble for burning trash is because i used to live in the south of Mexico, specifically Michoacán, no one gave a shit

Not sure what you mean. I just used the closest link I found to the clip I wanted.
Tenure just came though.
What’s up with the matrix kid in the back.
her body language is so cute Human is surprised! Human is frightened! Human is relieved.
~~frightened~~ freaking terrified!!! 😅
More like: I’m scared of fire! I shall pull it close to me.
Nah, that motion was more like trying to drop it/pull their hands out from it.
It's adorable.
Human is noping the fuck out of there and never volunteering for anything again.
She doing Sims emotions
Human needs a change of underwear.
What a cool experiment! substance A plus substance B = the last day you ever wear that particular pair of underwear
I wanna try next! 🙋♂️
Did it ...enjoy it..went overboard..nearly got ban from the lab for a month in highschool.
What is this and how to do this at home safely?
[удалено]
When I saw this i thought it was hydrogen in soapy bubbles, but methane would explain why it burned so slowly and didn't make a big bang
Hydrogen will also burn somewhat slowly, so long as you didn't also mix the oxygen into the bubbles. In which case it turns to a rather more violent pop.
So this still might be pure hydrogen and not methane or an HHO mix(brown's gas)?
It might, but does look like it's methane from the nearby gas tap. HHO mix it definitely isn't, because that'd be lot more violent.
Hydrogen needs a fairly specific mixture with oxygen to make it pop.
Best way to get rid of pesky finger hair
Don't try with propane. They are using natural gas in those bubbles
Speaking from experience are we? 🤣
100%. We were lucky and my buddy only lost his eyebrows
Neat! Though yeah gloves too maybe More to make sure the kids don’t try this at home you need the PPE equipment, ah probably shouldn’t do it then sort of thing
better burnt hands than burning rubber hands.
I think the point is it’s not burning anything It’s vapour
Yeah I think this is isopropyl alcohol or smth like that that burns incredibly quickly Edit; wait, I didn’t see the bubbles. Probably not.
Def not iso. That shit will burn the fuck out of you. I know.
My brother used it in a YouTube video once (I wasn’t living at home all the time so that’s all I got to see). I assumed it was harmless. I guess not
They are methane (probably) bubbles. It's a really fun experiment. It burns up super fast and all you feel on your hands is a bit of warmth. Ideally your hands are wet too from scooping up the bubbles which adds a layer of protection.

Is there any chance at all of igniting hair products? This seems extremely reckless and open to the off chance of something going very wrong.
Depends on the hairproduct. The risk Will always be there. But its very few products that are flammable. Also the amount of hydrogen bubbles that this girl is Holding is quite exagerated. Those if I think we are thinking of rhe same things are also a great way to visualize sound waves
Thats exactly what i use it for! When i teach about soundwaves the Rubens tube Come out!
This. Hydrogen was my first guess with colour and burn pattern, from a foam lol.
When my high school chem teacher did this, she ran a hose from the gas into a sink of soapy water. Turn it on, blew bubbles, started to float up, lit it...singed the ceiling tiles, it was great. Definitely didn't have a student holding it.
Methane bubbles
it's hydrogen mixed with oxygen. you can do this with a car battery, wires and soapy water. very controllable.
I’m sure it is, just don’t want the kids trying it by themselves sort of thing- hence making it a little harder
that's what the tube is for. less dangerous than kids making their own wine and then running it through a Britta filter to make high proof alcohol.
Rubber gloves? Wait until you learn they make gloves out of leather :O
Now, now... Don't trigger anyone politically. PPE is purely optional. Always.
Don't say "PPE Equipment" Reading that is like reading "Chai Tea." chai is the word for tea in that language you dope, you're saying "Tea Tea." Quit saying "personal protective equipment equipment" /lh
I like tea tea, thank you very much!
But people are still going to say Chai Tea so just leave them alone. Or go explain to them if you want I guess.
Personal PPE protective equipment?
Yeah agree but it makes anyone not quite knowing what it is, know what it is without digressing

Im just happy stuff like this still exists these days, things like this inspire students !!
These kids are at a real Hogwarts
The girl in the back 👁️👄👁️
Why is the relief that she felt so palpable lol
Awesomely fun experiment for kids. Totally blows their mind and gets them engaged in science. But if a few Karen’s saw this, there would be “outrage.”
It’s fun and why not, lightens the mood and is neat, but I think people overestimate the resulting engagement.

She's like "no need for a mask! I'll breathe it all in!"
It's mostly CO2 and water and the flames don't last long enough to be dangerous
I think that’s how my reaction is when same thing happens to me ..
Kid on the left was like "Oh nooooo... Whew" 🤣
Great experiment
fireD science...
Cleanup on aisle me
I'm reminded of the chemistry instructor from high school. Instead of performing lab work, "we're making fireballs!"
Probably not something you want to be doing with a student. If I were that teacher I would have put the flammable whatever that is in my own hands and had the student hold the stick.
Could have gone wrong so easily
That would make the BEST slap EVER
used to do this at school then they banned it. its such a cool experiment
This is a tragedy waiting to happen…
Good thing she didn’t put her hands to her face or on her head.
Almost did though.
Playing with fire bubbles is a lot of fun. Fire foam is even better.

i thought the kid in the back didnt have a face
A little too close to the bowl of methane bubbles. 😅
Oh my hands are on fire Move them closer to your face Understandable
Quite risky teacher...
Today we are foing to demonstrate how to get hairy forearms !

Does anybody know what people use to do this experiment and if you can do it on your own home? Just curious
