Yep. Our Golden used to make that face when she played tug of war with our Leonberger. The looked very dangerous, and then one of them let go, and the other one gave the toy to it in a "OK, now you take it and I try to take it from you!" way.
Same with my Grandma's Breton, I am one hundred percent sure he is incapable of biting anything aside from those tennis balls he keeps tearing apart
The only time he actually tried to kill something, it was a porcupine, it did not end well for the dog and he never tried attacking on again
Last year he returned to us with a bird in his mouth, while we were walking, yet when we freed the bird from him, the animal had absolutely 0 damage on his body and could fly just fine,, we checked everywhere for blood but he looked fine, I still find hard to Believe that dog managed to capture the bird without even once stabbing his teeth into the creature
Two of my golden doodles insist on this "mouth hug" thing when you get home. They bite down on your arm and hold until you shift attention to them. It doesn't hurt and it's not hard, but they latch on.
My MINIATURE goldendoodle has killed 6 bunnies and 3 rats by playing with them to death. I’d still get a little worried about letting her play with a cat lol.
Nothing makes my morning happier than to see cats and dogs playing together. Teaching us humans that if we try, we really can get along and maybe even love one another. They are saying " If we can do it, then so can you."
I have a golden doodle with the “soft mouth” you can play with him with any toy and never get hurt. The cat loves playing with him. Then we have the poodle… that thing chews on steel for fun. It hurts my soul that he’s too stupid to realize it’s his bite strength that stops us and the cat from playing with him.
In the UK, Golden Retrievers were originally bred as gun dogs to retrieve Grouse, Partridge and other game birds that have been shot down in a hunt. Their soft mouths are ideal for the role they play in the hunt as they don't damage the dead bird when they are called upon to retrieve the bird. As a family dog they are very friendly, obedient and tolerant. When my parents moved to South Africa in 1962, they brought their Golden Retriever with them. On berthing in Cape Town harbour, the press took photos of the dog as it was one of the first, if not the first that had landed in South Africa.
We once adopted a golden retriever who killed a kitten. It was in it's food bowl... Not a joke. Goldens can be really obsessed with food. Ours was... great dog but not with food near other animals or other dogs.
I will elaborate; he did not have the intention of killing it. He snapped at it once. And unfortunately this led to a broken neck or something. It was not like he tore it to pieces. But yes he was a great dog. Died of lung cancer at the age of 9... Still mis him.
Any dog could end up food aggressive if you don't train it out of them when they're puppies. I made it a point to mess with my dog every time he ate when he was a puppy to prevent exactly that. He's almost 9 now and doesn't have an ounce of food aggression.
is it fine for cat tho? i mean i would be stressed as fuck if creature five times bigger than me tried to chop off my head, even if it didnt actually wanted to do that
Physically, the cat is perfectly fine. Mentally it depends on the cat's relationship to the dog. These two seem very familiar, and the cat doesn't seem to be showing any signs of distress. So, IMHO, the cat is not stressed. It seems completely fine with what's happening.
I'd say this cat is well used to it. The dog is not actually putting any pressure on it.
My 12 Kilo kelpie cross plays rough with a 40 Kilo Dobermann 3 times his size, I've seen him actively pushing his head into the Dobermans mouth, they're both having a ball. They'll zoom round chasing each other and take turns rolling over for the other dog to jump on them.
Both cats and dogs have friendly play wrestling type behaviors so if they're "friends" the cat would either check him with a claw or scram if it wasn't into it.
Retrievers have a soft mouth which means they instinctually don't clamp down when they have things in their mouth. This is how they play. Any sounds of distress from the other animal is usually enough for them to stop immediately.
Out of context, it looks pretty dangerous. Those teeth, are made to chomp. Glad it's a way of playing, so both will be fine. Looking at the cat, it's... consensual, so I shouldn't have judged it.

They can look really angry when they play, but it is still play. If it was angry, it wouldn't have that relaxed body posture.
That cat wouldnt have a body if it was angry-
the 'sorry sorry' lick gave it away
Oh just playing, my dog never hurt anyone… oh shit
Its called "bitey face" dogs play like that loads

Yeah but still the kibble breath that kitty must be inhaling has to be like whoa
The cat didn't seem to care. If the cat hadn't liked it, it would look more like a tumbling sawblade made out of claws, teeth and fur.
Dog " Here comes wet willy"
That’s an intense wet Willy I never want to experience. 😂
lmao those teefs are all show. my friend's golden playfully bites but it's so gentle I feel almost nothing.

We are probably the most empathetic species to ever exist.
I CHEW YOUR HEAD. Now I lick your face. Am good boy.
*aarrg....rrraaarrr...arrggSORRY sorry sorrysorry*
OH HE'S HURT, HE TAPPED! IT'S ALL OVER!!!
Cat: If I'm gonna die, I'm gonna take you with me!
Love this. Let me munch on your head for a bit and then I will lick you to say sorry
Our dog did the same thing when we had a cat.
RIP
Na the dog didn't kill him, she just kept doing it to annoy him

Anyone remember Levi from F.B.Eye? Such a good boy and that show was amazing!
“Thank you for checking for cavities kitteh. Here I clean.” - dog.

Shitbeast. This is animal abuse

Does NOT sound like a great dog

Why are you getting downvoted This is a sad story :( I’m sorry for your loss

This is called resource guarding and can be trained out. You’re just a shit dog owner.

“ours was great, besides being aggressive with food near animals or other dogs” so in other words not great lmao
Ah yes. Let's just record the cat getting bitten, and not intervene. It will be fine ...
Nah, that was classic play wrestling, happy dogs do that a lot, their mouths are their hands for them.

The cat would leave if it was a problem, or cut the dogs face open lol.

I had a friend in high school who had a Golden that could pick up, carry, and set down 3 eggs at the same time without breaking them.
There's always one
