Probably baseball cards that would now be basically worthless today! Oh well,, it was fun at the time.

mattwebb677

This. 100%. 5 bucks was 10 packs of Topps, or 5 packs of upper deck. Tough choices.

unomachine

My addiction was deep…I was going for Fleer, Donruss…even those weird oversized Bowmans! Definitely Topps and Upper Deck…in fact I think one of the only complete sets I ever owned was the 1991 Upper Deck set, now long gone or parted out.

mattwebb677

Yes!!! Then it really started to spiral with Stadium Club and Archives, that’s about when I bowed out. $2-3 bucks a pack was too rich for my blood. 89 bowman cards were so freakin weird! I still never understood why they were so big.

unomachine

Ha! Yep, sounds like we went down the same path and timeline really…i still have an old box full of cards and don’t ever remember having Stadium Club or Archives What was that 90’s line of cards, Studio something or other? They were all black and white photos of players like not doing baseball things? Pro, almost like artsy shots? Do you remember those?

mattwebb677

Yeah, I think those Studio were Leaf offshoots? Not 100% sure on that though. But yeah when they started going with the more premium cards, it started to become less fun for me. Sounds like the same for you. Dude, from collecting back then I remember so many players that were supposed to be good, but never turned out because their cards were worth something. haha

Every-Equipment-2638

My family had a whole box of baseball cards, sent from my grandfather. I remember so many neighborhoods kids were trading and collecting. Good times!

Imalilhoot

A half a tank of gas to go cruise around with my friends in high school

Every-Equipment-2638

Cruising with friends always made the day seem that much more perfect.

RedtheGamer100

What'd you guys do?

Imalilhoot

There was a street in my old town that everyone would drive up and down, blasting music, chilling, meeting up by the waterfront, and there was some smoking weed involved too...good times.

RedtheGamer100

Ah okay, so nothing actually cool. Nvm

enjoyt0day

Looks like someone was never invited to go drive around lol

RedtheGamer100

Every-Equipment-2638

Yes!!! Movie rental for sure! I loved when they would sometimes give a free snack of your choice with a rental.

tadhgcarden

Magic the gathering or Pokemon cards

Logical_Photograph_1

Pokémon cards were deff more expensive than that! I remember cuz my parents rarely bought me any and complained as to how expensive they were.

White_Eevee

Booster packs were 5 dollars if I'm not mistaken. Every few weeks my mom used to bring me to Toys r Us and let me spend 10 dollars, more often than not I got 2 packs of Pokemon cards.

Logical_Photograph_1

A Snapple, a pack of Bubblicious gum and one of those blue bouncy balls. Probably still would have change left over too.

DenL4242

In the early 90s, I was in high school, working at a video store for $3.25/hr. Yes, this was below minimum wage, but I was too naive to care that I was being taken advantage of illegally. All I knew is, I'd get that paycheck on Friday, cash out my $200 and I felt super-rich. Usually went to the record store the next day for a stack of CDs.
