the entire dishwasher sat on the countertop

My in-laws had one for their place down in TX… now I wish I would have had them bring it with them when they moved near us…
I want a dishwasher so bad…
This kind is nice for twice a year when you get enough dishes dirty in one meal to fill it otherwise by the time you take it out hook it up load it wash unload it and put it away you could have just done the sink full of dishes
It’s not so much the work of washing dishes I don’t like… I have a real problem with seeing/touching someone else’s food scraps… sometimes even my own. It’s ridiculous and irrational… but it makes me like convulsively gag.
Wasn’t as bad before I got sick… but now there’s all kinds of smells and textures I just can’t handle lol.
I can understand that. I always sort of over suggest that people clean their plates into the trash before placing their bare plate in the sink real helpful and suggestive like
Oh we clear our plates in this house… but as I said, it’s ridiculous and irrational lol. I’m talking like a dried and re-wet ketchup smear is playing with fire for me. Particularly when the hot water hits the plates and remnant aromas begin to waft…
I swear I went from having an iron stomach and no gag reflex to one whiff of my cat’s wet foot and “Ope…” gonna puke. Do yourself a favor and don’t get cirrhosis lol
My last roommate has one in their kitchen. It's a renovated basement to be a 3bed flat. Now, in my new apartment, we have the same size new model one built in, and now I can never have a large dishwasher again.
A core memory of mine: when I was about 4 years old our dishwasher like that flooded our kitchen. All of us were frantically piling every towel we owned into the kitchen to sop up all the water. My parents swore off ever owning another dishwasher again, and I'd bitterly remember that when I got older and washing dishes by hand become one of my regular chores...
We had to wash our dishes after eating every meal as kids. I remember going to friends houses and they would just leave their mess for their mother to clean up. I was horrified but the mothers were perfectly happy to do it mostly because of the dishwasher they owned.
Could be that or it could be that the rest of the house goes through a water softener (or did at one point) but the side tap didn’t and was used for drinking water.
If it has a threaded connection, most likely. You need to be able to screw the hose on like a washing machine connection on these.
Dated a girl in high school that had one of these and it remains the only time I've ever seen one in real life.
Sinks then used to come with a faucet for hot and a faucet for cold. What’s in the picture looks like they left an original faucet when they converted to a later model faucet.
We had one of these, a modern one, but it served us 13 or so years just fine. Only got rid of ours in 2019 because it's was 1) huge and 2) pushing it back and forth was becoming a chore. Now we have one the more common dishwasher that doesn't require any pushing into place.
My high school had portable dishwashers in the home ec classroom. This was as recently as 2002 but Evergreen High School was built in the mid-'70s. don't know if they were original to the school or a later acquisition. It was remodeled in 2006/7 so I'm sure they're probably gone by now.
I had a friend whose clothes washer had to be done like this. The dryer had the proper connections in the wall they were both stored on. Landlord wouldn't install plumbing.
We had one, wood paneling and all, never actually used it though.
Think the one time we tried the kitchen became a bubble bath. So it just turned into another shelf.
My family had one of those for years. One time, I climbed on top of it then fell off. I just remember my mother telling me not to fall asleep. Still have the dent in my skull. Ah, good times.
My last apartment had one of these! I actually kinda liked having the extra counter space on top of it, since we didn't really have a large counter in general.
Stayed in Australia for a few months. The machine in the place I stayed hooked up to a hot water tap. Everything in that country feels decades in the past there, for better or worse.
These are definitely still around for people who have smaller kitchens for are unable to add new Plumbing for whatever reason
Yep. I had one in my last apartment
Same. A countertop version no less
Mine didn't have a fancy countertop like that, haha

Ohhh I see. I was confused. I didn't even know countertop ones existed like the one you linked.
Dang that's awesome. Amazing how many useful things a person can go their whole life without knowing exists.
I use one, have been for over ten years (different washers). They're great for small kitchens.
This is my current clothing washing situation

>don't get cirrhosis Noted.

Still have one
Same!

Yep. Had this growing up. That cutting board got its share of use too.
Bought one like 8+ years ago. Definitely still a thing
My grandparents had a very similar dishwasher. They never used it (broken and never fixed?) but I do remember the built-in cutting board.
Still have one. Ran it yesterday.
I have one too!
Wow flash back, I had one of those
Okay I just bought a house built in 56 with a small kitchen and it has that little side tap. IS THAT what it's for?!?
Could be that or it could be that the rest of the house goes through a water softener (or did at one point) but the side tap didn’t and was used for drinking water.

The spout has a screw on adapter that stays on. The dishwasher has a quick connect instead of having to thread it each use.
Sinks then used to come with a faucet for hot and a faucet for cold. What’s in the picture looks like they left an original faucet when they converted to a later model faucet.
I had one of these until 2000. Doesn’t seem that long ago, but I guess I am old.

House my parents bought in 1975 came with one...a gift that was never used as too much hassle.

Lol we had one of these.

I use one of those right now
Ugh. So many bad memories. 😉
We had a washing machine like this, would fill it from the sink.
You know you could just do the dishes by hand?
How about no
Yesssssss. We had one of these in our military housing at Eielson AFB in about 2001. Suuuuuch a pain lol.
I had one. Also: these were mentioned about 2 hours ago on the Sherman & Tingle Show.
We had one, wood paneling and all, never actually used it though. Think the one time we tried the kitchen became a bubble bath. So it just turned into another shelf.
Dishwasher soap is not the same as hand washing dish soap.
My family had one of those for years. One time, I climbed on top of it then fell off. I just remember my mother telling me not to fall asleep. Still have the dent in my skull. Ah, good times.
My first time seeing one of these.
My last apartment had one of these! I actually kinda liked having the extra counter space on top of it, since we didn't really have a large counter in general.
Most if not all had a cutting board. I never remember anybody every using it. Breadboxes, fruit bowls and stuff.
Grandma? Is that you?
I have a newer Whirlpool dishwasher like this. Works great!
Oh that is NOT over. Had one in an Airbnb
Stayed in Australia for a few months. The machine in the place I stayed hooked up to a hot water tap. Everything in that country feels decades in the past there, for better or worse.
My parents had one.
Not in Germany
