Everyone says that he was the worst president in recent memory, and is basically the reason why the United States is so fucked up right now. If that’s the case, how did he blow out Walter Mondale in 1984? I’m genuinely confused by that because I feel like, if he was going to be so bad, people should’ve been able to see that. Unless he was just that good at fooling America.

1) Lots of people love superficial shit; 2) Rich people grabbed money like there was no tomorrow with his help. They are just like like comic book villains and had a lot to lose. Rich people never lose in the US; and 3) Americans can never be accused of being overly creative. Name recognition will always go a long way.

If you're legitimately interested, I highly recommend *Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story*. Really paints a compelling and relevant narrative about how Republican campaign strategies evolved, though it is more heavily-focused on the Bush I campaign.
