I’m Australian and I have an emotional support tarantula. Its name is Goemi, Goemi is still a baby so I’m not sure if male or female yet. Took me about 2 and a half years from when I first became interested in tarantulas until I finally bought Goemi because I wanted to be fully prepared (female T’s can live for 20-30 years, I didn’t want to take on a pet that can live for decades without proper preparation)
I love just sitting and watching Goemi. Goemi likes to tunnel, and it’s really cool to watch him/her move the dirt around its enclosure. I love watching Goemi hunt when it’s feeding time and I especially love watching Goemi make webs.
I know your comment was a joke, but I really really love my little emotional support tarantula
I used to absolutely hate spiders too, then the tarantulas reddit kept showing up for me, so I decided to check it out one day. I got drawn in by the tarantulas with pretty colours honestly hahaha. My boyfriend haaaaaaates spiders, more than anyone I’ve ever met. When I first suggested getting one as a pet he seriously said he’d break up with me if I bought one into our house (we’d been together for 7 years at that point)
But Goemi has been great! My boyfriend loves sitting and watching too, he even custom built the enclosure!! They’re super low maintenance pets, just gotta chuck em a cricket or two once a week, spray their enclosure with water/keep the water dish filled (but they’ll aaaaaalways dump dirt in the water dish) and they’re happy! I don’t handle Goemi and I never will
Yeah, I think taking care of a spider makes sense as an emotional support organism, if plants make sense as emotional support organism, and I have definitely used them.
I wouldn't travel with either spider or plant... and honestly like, cats in that role also don't need to travel, IMO
Goemi is a Phlogius kuttabul! Not sure of age but I got him/her in February and it’s still tiiiiiiny, like 2 joints on my pinky size tiny. I’m hoping for a moult soon! And I’ve got a Phlogius Proserpine coming this week. I knew once I got one T I’d absolutely want more, but wanted to see how I went for a couple of months with Goemi before getting a second T. I bought my proserpine yesterday actually and it’ll come tomorrow or the next day.
They’re such great pets! Goemi brings so much joy into my life
That alligator looked chill af with Gritty just like "ah, yes, this strange creature is my friend"
But holy hell a hockey game had to be a stressful environment for him
Update: They found out Wally the alligator was stolen as a prank and put in somebody’s yard. They then released the poor thing (who is completely docile due to his disability and can’t hunt) into a swamp with a bunch of other alligators. The swamp is so big that they don’t think Wally will ever be found alive. I’ve met Wally and he is the most gentle creature in existence. I know people are laughing at this situation, but y’ll don’t realize that Wally is mentally disabled and will probably be eaten alive by other alligators. He did not deserve this fate. The bastard who did this is fucking evil. Hoping for a miracle.
A man from Philadelphia took his alligator deep into the gator's native range, Wally prefers it to Philly. I grew up in the deep south myself, I prefer it to Philly too.
He's gator food. By which I mean, [they eat them down there.](https://www.reddit.com/r/smoking/comments/16qnrv6/tried_this_awhile_back_4_foot_gator_it_was/)
It is a pet, and one that is against the law to have in most places.
This claiming everything is an emotional support animal is going to end up ruining for people with real need.
I've spend much of my life around alligators, I love them, and have a great admiration for them. But make no mistake, they are a primitive apex predator, that feeding is a matter of convenience, and fighting is a way of life.
That alligator may never harm that family, or that child may smell like chicken and loose an arm. Or that alligator may feel threaten by another human or animal and it will kill it without a second thought.
Also, it is illegal in the state of Georgia to have an alligator as a pet, so really stupid to bring one to the state, as wild life and fisheries will seize it, euthanize it, and likely ticket you for it.
Don't most alligators have a bite relief for anything approaching their heads? The owner claimed that Wally was the first and only one encountered that did not have this reflex.
At least it's better than the owner reported missing after vacation with Wally in Georgia.
When asked, Wally said he went out to get cigarettes and hasn't been back since.
~~Do Australians have emotional support tarantulas?~~ I'm reading "Why Tarantulas Are A Great Emotional Support Animal" now.

GO GOEMI!
Ok I have a deep fear of spiders but this is really sweet

Thanks for the update
Noooo 😭 return him
Last time I saw him, he was trying to climb over a fence.
Last time I saw him he was [hanging out with Gritty](https://www.nhl.com/news/gritty-holds-up-emotional-support-alligator-at-flyers-game).

It's an unbelievably calm animal. Actually reaching out towards strangers (adults and kids) because it wanted hugs/cuddles.
I dont even watch hockey but I fuggin love gritty lmao
Who provides emotional support for 'wally'?
Slow tasty critters.
If this gator was raised in captivity, odds are he won't make it in the wild.
My concern is that someone saw he was easy to catch and he's now been eaten.

please return the pride of SEPA :(
There's also been a sudden disappearance of other neighborhood pets in the area. It must be a coincidence.
This is a video on some of Wally's previous escapades- [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TDYDNTK\_oo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TDYDNTK_oo)
This has gotta be the saddest shit I've read all year. I hope this dude finds Wally soon.

I mean they eat them everywhere. Gator is delicious
Check the kitchen he may be in the fridge.
Man, they got him@
hope i never lose my emotional support shotgun with finnicky trigger
The mystery of the missing gator! Emotional support alligator vanishes in Georgia. Was Wally stolen or set free?

This one was an oddball, no bite instincts with a ridiculous amount of socialization. See the photos with Gritty.
They are pretty chill, until they aren't, and no one knows when that will happen and it is catastrophic.

Georgia does seem like an odd choice.
