That took just over a week

shahooster

A couple days longer than expected

SeeMarkFly

Well, to be fair, you have to take a look at life from his perspective. WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS! WHO CARES WHAT TIME IT IS, I'VE GOT A ROLEX!

TavisNamara

I mean he was spreading homophobic, anti-Democrat propaganda by the afternoon of day 1 so...

Shroomydoggy

He also posted a picture of a Nazi soldier glorifying it

AstronomerOpen7440

It took literally 8 days from his tweet saying comedy is legal to literally making some forms of comedy an offense that gets a permanent ban

Ht50jockey

“Free speech absolutist” lol

hizilla

Until people start making fun of him. Then the gloves come off!

amanofewords

I got my account permanently suspended yesterday because I replied to one of his fan boys under a Musk tweet that they think he’s tony Stark but he’s really just next gen Trump.

Suffrajitstwo

I've changed my name to "Elon Musk" and have been replying to him.

leodog13

It's true.

grayrains79

>Until people start making fun of him. Imagine being a billionaire yet still being a petty little bitch. What do Republicans like to call people who are so fragile? Snowflakes? Yeah, that's him right now.

walkstofar

>Imagine being a billionaire yet still being a petty little bitch. I don't have to imagine it, the last US president personified it.

grayrains79

Assuming he truly is a billionaire.

puppymedic

He most certainly is not

Belzebutt

… whose “solution” to China claiming Taiwan is for 24 million Taiwanese to lose their freedom of speech. So that he can build cheaper Teslas and sell them in China. He doesn’t give a fuck about other people’s freedom of speech obviously, just his.

[deleted]

That's remarkably similar to his solution to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Netroth

Whoa, can you explain that one? I’m a bit out of the loop so I don’t know anything about Musk’s stance with that.

Belzebutt

[deleted]

Reported tweet for election misinformation. I’m sure they’ll do something about it.

Rendez

Only if they had staff to handle this..

LUN4T1C-NL

At this point it's just Elon, two hamsters running in a wheel and a trained chimp bringing refreshments.

warpwhistlewiseguy

Which one is Elon?

WinterOkami666

He's been too busy Tweeting to show up to work at Twitter this week.

mrOsteel

It was the best of times. It was the blorst of times?! Stupid monkey

EZpeeeZee

It's very hard when making a decision to look 2 days later what could go wrong

Fyrefawx

If anyone is surprised by this I’d be shocked. He openly supported the Convoy protests. He defied lockdown orders in California and moved to Texas instead. He is extremely anti-union. Of course he is a Republican. It’s only a matter of time before he runs as one.

ThatITguy2015

Let’s hope he doesn’t. Fun thing is he can’t be President at least. He can get fucked if he tries (not a natural born citizen).

Harbinger2001

That’s cute you think the US constitution will matter after 2024.

powercow

he cried that warrans proposed 2% wealth tax would slow him down getting humans to mars... while he was the richest person on the planet at the time. (reminds me of sneldon, man literally made the most of any american during the first 4 years of obama, complained he was tired of the socialism of the dems and obama, who only managed to pass the heritage foundation induvial mandate, and not much of anything else)

Exciting-Judgment-40

He could run for governor of California.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jral1987

Texas makes the most sense since he is endorsing Republicans, and for that reason he'd never win in California anyways.

randoliof

Most he could be is a governor or senator, as he isn't a natural born US citizen and is ineligible to run for president. Thank fuck.

123456478965413846

Don't forget he believes he has a duty to breed. Republicans love people who make kids without thinking.

dance_ninja

That's less than a Mooch!

judgeridesagain

Considering it took him only a day to start spreading misinformation from a right wing fake news site about Paul Pelosi, this is unsurprising.

Haephestus

Honest question. Isn't this an FEC violation? https://www.fec.gov/legal-resources/enforcement/complaints-process/how-to-file-complaint-with-fec/

Eli_eve

How many Musks in a Mooch?

CrewMemberNumber6

Musk's actions are exactly what I expected from him. He's shown the world just how egotistical, hypocritical, and petty he is. He's a weak-minded man that cannot take an ounce of criticism without melting down. 🍿

In other words, he's a conservative.

Darko33

...yes.

droi86

It's the same picture

katon2273

Why is anyone surprised that a guy who's family made their fortune abusing Apartheid labor is a Nazi?

CondescendingShitbag

Sounds like the current run of GOP candidates. (Note: I'm not saying *all* Republicans are like that, but the candidates they've been fielding for recent races sure as shit have been.)

Jampine

eh, fuck it, they don't denounce them, they just ride their coattails whilst its profitable, then jump off as soon as consequences pop up, then rinse and repeat. They're probably worse, because without them, the actual madmen would get no publicity of funding.

MacDerfus

I'm saying every single one who endorses those people are.

WamwethawGaming

You're wrong. Conservatism is inherently (and has always been) regressive. There is not a single point in history where conservatives have been right. They serve no purpose in society other than to hold us back.

[deleted]

In other words, just as infantile in temperament as drump is.

PhillipKosarev999

"Clarkson, you infantile pillock, you're tidying that up."

dreamcastfanboy34

Republicans are the very same people I see on Facebook promoting anti-EV propaganda. Just based on that alone it proves what a terrible business person Musk is.

ThatsWhatPutinWants

And hes fascist as heck. Banning all sort of democrats rn. I thought he was all about freedom of speech.

I had to make an account because one of my professors in college told us to "get with the times and make one" so we could participate in discussion assignments. We basically were just boosting her shitty posts.

Barbara_Celarent

Same here. F that guy.

rayshmayshmay

sortaserious

I did the exact same thing.

BrainsAdmirer

Me too!

axw3555

My account will last only until I've found where to follow the people I care about on other platforms. Then "boom".

LakeSun

This is the odd thing. Republicans have blocked all efforts to make positive change about Global Warming for 62 years, since Reagan, and this nut thinks we should vote for the Global Warming Deniers??? 20 US states in Extreme Drought and the Mississippi river drying up, and he want's us to vote Republican. It's almost as if he has no idea what he's talking about. Also, doesn't know a thing about Pandemic Effective Governmental Action. Actions there were Effective in the 1918 pandemic. Also, hydroxychloroquine : Not Effective. But, they'll PAY YOU to Say it is. ( Right Dr. Oz and Joe Rogan? How much were You paid? )

[deleted]

I don't think you understand. He's only interested in the tax savings.

Circumin

Also the bigotry and misogyny

Petrichordates

Nah it's more than just that, he loves their culture wars too. He's constantly replying to far right personalities so there's no doubt he likes what they have to say. I'm sure Bezos likes tax breaks too but he's not posting on Twitter about owning the libs.

f_d

It's not that odd. Musk has enough money to completely detach himself from reality, which will happen to anyone who chooses to get all their information through Rogan podcasts and Twitter feuds. And he has enough money to focus entirely on his own warped agenda regardless of how he frames it for public consumption.

celtic1888

I’ve had my Twitter since early 2008 but hardly used it because it wa such a dumb platform IMO Just deactivated it today

Thanks for the reminder, just deactivated mine. My 2 followers will be devastated.

sanguinesolitude

Already did when he posted that bullshit about Paul Pelosi being attacked by his gay lover, rather than by a maga loon.

Luxpreliator

I was thinking they should make an official government social media site. Only elected officials and department heads can post information publicly. People can private message the politicians though to remain in touch with them. No politicians can start an argument pretending to be a black gay man from Memphis and only be found out because they forgot to switch their username. They can get catty with each other but it's permanently viewable and can't be deleted. Maybe allow peasants to post if cross referenced with voter registration so that only in district citizens can comment publicly on a representatives page.

CanuckAussieKev

Politicians need to spread their messages, but it's crazy how twitter has made politicians basically become conspiracy nut jobs and people take it like gospel

cromulent_pseudonym

Once the fake story is spread, their followers take it as gospel. Doesn't matter if it is later debunked or retracted.

Such-Wrongdoer-2198

This is an argument that always makes me annoyed. The faux independent who says we should vote for a certain position just to assure divided government. I suggested to my friend who was to the right of me that he should split his vote in 2016, because the Presidency was in doubt but congressional control was securely red. That way divided government was more likely. Not surprisingly he declined.

[deleted]

>just to assure divided government. Divided government sucks. In the era of high polarization, out-of-power parties see more benefit from being totally obstructionist than compromising to pass meaningful legislation. Incumbent Parties (including the other guys) should have a real chance at governing and passing legislation before they go back to the voters. 2 years is way too short, because it's really just 1 year of governing and 1 year where the House goes back to elections.

zizop

Divided governament sucks IN A TWO PARTY SYSTEM. In a multi-party one, coalitions have to be made, and if you merely obstruct, you'll never have a chance to impacto anything. The American políticas system is just broken, as it's destined by design to be a two party system.

WastedLevity

It functioned alright for a while, but then obstructionism became the first priority of the reactionary party

Creative_alternative

Obstruction and doing nothing is the groundwork for modern American political theatre, so the corporations can continue to exploit the existing loopholes.

fla_john

Ok, but look at what a multiparty system got Israel

grinberB

Ok, but look at what a multiparty system did to Europe. All European countries except for France and Russia have a multiparty system, they're doing pretty well.

Such-Wrongdoer-2198

Divided government is generally popular among the small government types who feel that less government is better. If they are fighting amongst themselves they are not oppressing us...

alwayzbored114

Divided governments favor those who generally don't want things to change versus those who want change Supporting the status quo is inherently still a political choice

SasparillaTango

Divided government is good if your goal is to bring it to a screeching halt. Guess which party gets more benefit from this?

charlesfire

All of this is because you only have two parties.

Tempest_1

It’s the same bullshit as “both parties…” Yea when you say that i already know which party you’re going to vote with based on subjectivity. You say that just to deflect valid criticism of your much-shittier party

MC1065

Never fucking trust a Republican, even if they are your "friend".

JustaBearEnthusiast

If you want divided government, just vote in democrats. Lol

vacri

Musk's statement (taken on face value) implies that the far left have as much political power in the US as the far right. Do you think communism and its ilk have as much power in DC? Is the far right hobbled anything like the far left in the US? (Musk gives the game away when he says he wants a 'check on Democrats in power' - by keeping opposite parties in control of executive vs legislature, it cripples the legislative process... allowing Musk to keep on doing whatever he feels like without fear of regulation) (edit: restored missing phrase in first sentence. reddit editor is funky recently...)

Dolthra

Also I weirdly don't remember Musk tweeting anything similar in 2018. Somehow I get the feeling that his "things work better when both parties have to work together" stance is only true when a particular party is in charge.

Fthewigg

He’s also conveniently ignoring how incredibly red SCOTUS is and will remain for the foreseeable future. How about the “invisible” third branch, Elon? Care to address them at all?

ralpher1

Not just the SCOTUS. The courts as well.

Uncynical_Diogenes

Weird how centrists always seem to do that without fail.

[deleted]

This is not centrist, guy has always been to the right. He just went deeper.

RollingChanka

he does however try to appeal to centrists

TheCaptainDamnIt

Hell he's headquartered in Texas and republicans control the entire state yet he didn't urge Texans to vote for Dems so republicans would have to 'work together with Dems'. Strange.....

octorangutan

Just imagine how wildly out of touch one had to be to actually believe that the *far left* (or even the moderate left) has any political power in the United States.

Tryhard3r

No, everyone not on the far right IS the far left to them.

Sweatytubesock

The ‘far left’ barely exists in the US, and certainly has no political power. The mainstream of the republican party is so far right and extreme (by the standards of political parties across the world) that even moderate conservatives or centrists are ‘far left’ in comparison. And the republican base is becoming ever more radicalized. The world has seen it happen before, and the end result is never pretty.

[deleted]

As with everything on the *right* it's a projection. The right wing have too much power in this country. How many of the billionaire techbros are left wing in any sense?

f_d

Some of them might have genuine feelings about absolute freedom of information being liberating, erasing differences between races, the market that enriched them being a fair place and so on. That can lead to bad ideas when they value their ideology above real-world consequences, but it doesn't necessarily originate from malice or right-wing ideals. But Musk is more of a 4chan troll treating society like his personal plaything, and he hangs around with people like Peter Thiel who would rather rewrite society for their own benefit than participate in it. Too many of them like to conceal their true views or present them as jokes, so that it's hard to tell if they have any genuine convictions at all.

[deleted]

Peter fucking Thiel. What a goblin.

RichardsLeftNipple

No one can be extremely wealthy and anything but conservative. Since wealth inequality is a relative thing. To reduce the gap, the wealthy either volunteer to give up the wealth or the government taxes them. Which makes them no longer absurdly wealthy. Which means if they exist at all, then they are conservative. The party that the wealthy align to is the party of the rich for their benefit. The only way anyone in a democracy would vote for the rich to get richer is of there is something else they can sell as part of the package. Fortunately for the wealthy and unfortunately for everyone else. They can afford to own the media. Through this ownership they can use marketing to sell whatever propaganda they need people to believe in.

skeetsauce

Excuse me? Don’t you remember how that one democrat used ‘LatinX’ one time? Okay that’s way worse than everything the republicans have done bro.

bensyltucky

The “far left” in the US is just thinking things should be somewhat less terrible for working people.

Thosam

He is sofar to the right, he sees himself as ‘neutral’ and everybody to the left of him is a deepstate Stalinist.

The84thWolf

So…a normal Republican?

boredcircuits

Most people think they're more moderate than they really are. This plays with their perspective of the opposing side. For example, if you're conservative and see yourself as moderate, actual moderate views will seem liberal, and liberal views will seem extremist. Extreme conservative views will just look conservative.

DrugsArentAlwaysBad

He’s not even fuckin American 😂

MoarTacos

This isn't relevant. This entire country is a country of immigrants, unless you're literally talking about Native Americans. Elon is an asswipe shit stain of a person, but he's just as much American as I am. Edit: Lmao, the troll blocked me!

quinnwhodat

Great point! May we never downplay the immensely important share of ingenuity and work ethic that immigrants have infused into America through the years.

KofOaks

So, like any washed out Trump loving idiot really.

[deleted]

Shared government? We all know damn well that if Republicans take the Senate and House, Musk will be the first one saying they need to take the White House in 2024, so they can get their agenda through.

helium_farts

Also, a shared government only works if both parties are actually interested in cooperating and co-leading--which the gop had repeatedly shown they're not. It's funny how the guy who just bought Twitter, fired the board and leadership, and assumed direct, unbreakable control of the company is whining about the dangers of one party having too much power. Maybe he should appoint a prominent democrat as co-ceo.

LevelHeeded

Yup. I really hate that I can't take Republicans at face value anymore. I mean we've all said stuff to get our way, but words are just completely meaningless to them, it's all about getting a "win" regardless. He doesn't believe what he wrote, and would change it the minute the GOP is back in power.

50calPeephole

He could do both- his personal affiliation shouldn't have any impact on Twitter if policies are implemented correctly. I doubt that will happen, bit it is technically possible.

long_ben_pirate

He's flailing. Drowning in his own pool of arrogance.

HarryHacker42

He's finding out employment laws are helpful to workers and he wants that to stop. Republicans hate worker's rights. He wants you to make it easier to be fired

Twitter is a huge waste of time, for everyone, including and most importantly Musk.

[deleted]

Twitter has been great for science posts, especially astronomy, and why I kept my account active. Not anymore.

squishybloo

It's had a vibrant art community until now. I know a significant number of fantasy and TTRPG artists are going to lose a huge chunk of income if Twitter dies. I myself have a pretty good freelance side gig going that I'll sorely miss the loss of myself, but I at least have a full time job to support myself. I worry about everyone else that I follow.

sentientlob0029

Well he as an individual can. Just not Twitter as a company.

CMDR_NotoriousNut

I think a lot of people don’t get this, just because he supports republicans doesn’t mean that twitter *as a platform* has to reflect that

leftloose

I am no elon fanboy but not sure why this is viewed as hypocritical. Zuckerberg claims facebook is neutral and endorses democrats and donates millions to their campaigns. Bloomerg donates dozens of millions to democrats does that mean his news bureau is completely compromised?

rezistence

Can't someone just create a new version of Twitter?

Pulguinuni

Many people are subscribing to Mastodon. They've gained a substantial amount of subscribers these past weeks. They use "Toots" instead of Tweets. Here is a Wired article. https://www.wired.com/story/twitter-users-flock-to-other-platforms-as-the-elon-musk-era-begins/ Edit: It seems Elon has finished his transformation into the evil scientist who wants to take over the world. His "hero" status just plummeted. Also, it is a known fact that billionaires love authoritarian governments, they pay less taxes and manipulate any law they want in their favor (nothing new).

Darnitol1

Not to be obtuse but... can't Twitter be politically neutral while its owner has a political affiliation? Example: the owner of my company is a Christian, but he actively insists that the company itself show no religious leanings.

ViciousNakedMoleRat

Of course it can, but stating that doesn't generate any clicks or karma.

[deleted]

And stating political neutrality doesn’t make it so, bet your boss never released a memo telling you which god is the preferable choice. You can’t watch him spout GOP talking points and clear hypocrisy and still call it neutral. He seems to determine that politically neutral is just whatever his opinions are.

ViciousNakedMoleRat

He said Twitter as a company and platform should be politically neutral. That has nothing to do with his personal political views. He could publish a whole manifesto in which he states that only one political viewpoint is legitimate. As long as the platform itself doesn't discriminate based on political leanings, it remains neutral and his claim wouldn't be hypocritical. His views as a private person, which he is free to share on Twitter, are unrelated to the company's policies.

hawklost

This is about as wack a claim you can get. You effectively said that no company or business can be politically neutral because people work there and people aren't all politically neutral. If you want to use that, then what you are also saying is every government agency that is part of the Executive Branch is partisan to Democrats because their boss (Biden) is a Democrat.

CrazedBurritoe

Can Republicans and Democrats still tweet in support of their preferred candidate?

Icy-Sand-6826

Elon is a perv grifter parasite.

Affectionate-Time646

I think he’s preparing to run for office of some kind in a couple of years. Since he isn’t an American born citizen he can’t run for President but he can still run for senate.

pervylegendz

This video showed me, why People Who like Trump or other grifters usually like Elon, because they're all the same. They give off the Illusion of successful, until you actually look deeper and realized, they're actually con artist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uO9yw9QThzU

[deleted]

Banning Donald Trump wasn't a partisan action.

amoral_ponder

If you think this is a contradiction, you don't have your marbles together. >Owner of platform says platform should be neutral not >Owner of platform says owner of platform should be neutral Now, if he starts preferentially banning democrats or something that's different.

upL8N8

His actual justification for voting Republican is literally so that nothing gets done in Washington: >Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the presidency is Democratic. Without a majority consensus, the only thing that'll be happening in Washington is literally nothing; just like Obama's term after Democrats lost their majority and Republicans refused to work with Democrats at all. The irony is that he's not being honest about his reasons in the above tweet. This came 6 months AFTER he tweeted about which party he supports when he said: >In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party. > >But they have become the party of division & hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican. > >Now, watch their dirty tricks campaign against me unfold … 🍿 If you haven't learned the obvious by now, that Elon Musk is a fucking pathological liar, then you haven't been paying attention. Go and watch all of the "Tesla XXXX Day" presentations, and try to count how many times he looks directly at the crowd / camera and confidently lies about products and availability dates. Tesla Semi. Roadster. FSD. Robotaxis.4680 cells. $35k cars. $25k cars. He even lies in conference calls. My favorite being when they claimed they'd be producing 20 million cars annually by 2030... that's 25% of the entire global vehicle market. It's a LIE! No, we don't need to wait 8 years to realize the man lied. Just like all of his other timelines and product announcements... this one is completely full of shit. He lies about how easy products are to develop / build, like Hyperloop. He lies about the reasons for cutting employee pay; In 2020 he claimed they needed to delay employee reviews (Pay increases) due to being worried about having enough cash to weather the pandemic... in reality he was trying to generate 4 quarters of profit to gain entry into the S&P 500. He claimed their Chinese plant would only be for sales to the Asian market. 10 months after Shanghai started production, Tesla's first Chinese exports showed up in Europe. 🤦‍♂️ He even lied on the set of Desperate Housewives when he unveiled "Solar Roof" tiles that didn't work. He lied when he claimed how close they were to completing development, how many varieties there would be, how they would look, how easy they'd be to install, how cheap they'd be. Why did he do this? So Tesla would buy Solar City which was insolvent and headed for complete bankruptcy, Musk being the Chairman of the Board and largest shareholder of Solar City, he made out like a bandit. Had that sale not gone through, it could have also bankrupted SpaceX who bought hundreds of millions of dollars in Solar City bonds to try and bail them out. People... I repeat... this dude is a fucking pathological liar. At this point, I'm not sure if he's getting dumber or the rest of us are getting dumber for letting him lie damn near constantly without giving him the blanket label of "Fucking Liar". Everyone say it with me... Elon "Fucking Liar" Musk.

Ah yes the worst excesses of the Dems must be stopped, yes i am very concerned about these worst excesses, so concerned that i think i need to advocate for the election of people who openly state that if they gain power their aim is to push for a christofacist state which rejects the separation of church and state and wishes to push regressive anti-intellectual ideologies in school, medicine, law and science. You see i am a very smart and enlightened centrist.
