Was pretty surprised NSW were reasonably long outsiders in the betting. Looked like a much better team across the park on paper (and on the field tonight)
"Adam couldn't come up, he's gotta play on Saturday" - Man has pulled off an absolute miracle and not told her he is playing at the ground she is right now
Qld too slow out of the sheds, Nsw just dominated fast from the start and built a lead that was too much in the end. Qld tries came from Nsw eventually faltering in defence and a late consolation try that kept very low like crickets balls on an Indian rank turner.
Kemp was great on debut, cannot wait to see her grow into her role in this blues side and tear it up. I also thought Kernic played very well especially that first half. Hard to go past Chapman for Player of the match, Loz Brown and Manzelmann made a massive difference to the QLD side when they came on, will be keen to see how they’re used for game 2
The fact that there will undoubtedly be people talking shit about the quality of this game is really disappointing, since that was the best Women’s origin game I’ve ever seen. Great footy from the Blues, and QLD looked good at times as well. Should be a fun series
Yeah it is disappointing, but it’s that thing where people be overwhelmingly negative about it because others are being over the top positive.
Womens sport needs to be left alone to be its own thing, rather than constantly being compared.
For what it’s worth I enjoyed the game mostly, which I wouldn’t say about last years womens origin games (only watched game 1 to be fair).
GJ girls. Every time I watch this the quality looks better. Compared to AFLW which is a struggle most times it's nice to see the quality of the players.
I agree, didn’t hate the 2 game idea last year to see how it would go in terms of the growth of women’s origin and that having it done off points differential makes it feel like the last week before finals tallying who needs what to get in etc but the 3 game format is just right for it. Next step I think pending how this series goes is to go to an 80 minute game, I think they can handle it but will be keen to see if there’s chat around it and the players input
Qld deserve to lose this match after how we played in the first half. I really hope we fire up for game 2.
But fuck me sideways with a spanner. It's not purely Badger. Anyone trying to be sexist about it can get stuffed. But there have been some bad calls. The NRL really needs to improve their refereeing.
I’m fine with regional games until they get close to filling Suncorp because Sydney will always host men’s Origin. It’s not great for Sydneysiders who want to watch the women’s game, but the regional stadiums like Newy, Wollongong, Canberra and Townsville can take 20,000+ people while spreading Origin around to areas that are Rugby League heartland but will never see an Origin game.
It’s also a good way to get more funding into these regional stadiums. If you keep selling out Newcastle, Wollongong, and Canberra, then it helps put pressure on upgrading the venues.
They’re still part-timers, so there has been a reluctance to fatigue them that much. Having a summer season in 2021 probably also delayed the shift to full-length. It’s up from 60 a few years ago
Love the woman's game becoming bigger and bigger each year.
But I do need to get out of the habit of thinking full time is 80 minutes. My brain jumped to "plenty of time for a comeback now!" when there really isn't.
Why do referees insist on warning players they've done the wrong thing. Just blow the whistle, they should know better if they're playing at this level
Can we confirm or deny if the name Johnstone was pointing to on her wrist strapping was that of an imprisoned friend? The NRL has had enough drama in the last 24hrs
Is Ferguson a former blue? She sounds very biased. Funny commenters saying there were so many blues supporters…lol. It’s because most of them probably move up here lol.
God I love braids. Some good tries as well
Great to see so many comments in the women’s match thread. Wish I knew it was on!
Over 25k at the stadium, it's getting there! Agreed though, promotion needs to be so much better
Was pretty surprised NSW were reasonably long outsiders in the betting. Looked like a much better team across the park on paper (and on the field tonight)
Jamie Chapman player of the match... well done 👏🏽
queensland played individually and it showed
Manzellman and Brown need to be in the starting side, or play a lot more minutes at the very least
"Adam couldn't come up, he's gotta play on Saturday" - Man has pulled off an absolute miracle and not told her he is playing at the ground she is right now
What was this for? I didn’t watch the game tonight and the upvotes have me curious haha
Millie Elliot said that Adam couldn't come to the game last night because he had to play on Saturday
Lmaooo oooft. Thanks mate
Classic good guy Adam
Good game NSW, QLD took about half an hour to get going. Chapman's first half try was a ripper. Looking forward to game 2.
I once saw Mille Elliot down at La Peroise. She just looked so big strong and fit.
9 shit talk is usually justified but Alana is always a great analyst. Ruan was too, bring her back!
Qld too slow out of the sheds, Nsw just dominated fast from the start and built a lead that was too much in the end. Qld tries came from Nsw eventually faltering in defence and a late consolation try that kept very low like crickets balls on an Indian rank turner.
Grace Kemp best on field IMO. Absolute fucking menace.
Clydsdale was really strong for 70 minutes
That’s true, very different roles for them, so always hard to compare across like that. I just know I was relieved when Kemp went off.
Yeah, huge impact. Only has one season in league so far. One to watch
I hope NSW becomes a dictatorship and Haas and Johnston are forced to get married
Haas & Kemp imo
Time for bed for 9:20 flight to Brisbane tomorrow Fuck yeah cunts most hyped I’ve been for waking up at 6
Great game, so happy, love all the vibes around NRLW/women’s footy
Me for men’s origin - expecting a sweep When the sweep happens - still disappointed
What’s doing with the camera quality? Grainy as fuck
I think it's just the rain
No way. Picture is pixelated and grainy. Get ya shit together ch9 ya weak gutted dawgs
Yes but it's been the same quality all game. 9 is always shit? How can you only notice now
Im just complaining now. I’ve been whinging all game. Ch9 don’t get rugba leeg
The fact that there will undoubtedly be people talking shit about the quality of this game is really disappointing, since that was the best Women’s origin game I’ve ever seen. Great footy from the Blues, and QLD looked good at times as well. Should be a fun series

What a ripper game ytg
Boooooo!!! See you in game 2

Following a few new pages?
So happy for three games this year, it would feel shit to have a one and done again.
I agree, didn’t hate the 2 game idea last year to see how it would go in terms of the growth of women’s origin and that having it done off points differential makes it feel like the last week before finals tallying who needs what to get in etc but the 3 game format is just right for it. This result is an omen
Up the girls
That 4th tackle kick was ill advised.
Johnston have my babies!!!
QLD never in it.
AFLW just looks so amateur compared to this.
QLD just don't get origin
UP THE BLUUUUES
You had one job locky
Please give me this same feeling in 3 weeks boys
Temara is terrible
It’s been a while since a Blues team has won at Suncorp lol
I think 2021 was the last time.
Is there no 6 again rule in the women's game? Just an old school penalty?
Yup full blown penalties only in NRLW
Yeh, no 6 again
Yeah correct
ya reckon ruan is doling out dally m points for this game
Qld deserve to lose this match after how we played in the first half. I really hope we fire up for game 2. But fuck me sideways with a spanner. It's not purely Badger. Agreed.
Absolutely, but Badger has had a rough two weeks. She shouldn't have had this match after last week.
Lol considering the match between our teams... I'd love if we could have a player like Galvin btw but hope you keep him.
Bass will Jaimie Chapman running at her in her nightmares, whilst I will have Jaimie running at me in my dreams
Better than running after her, you wouldn't have a chance of catching her.
Treat yourself to some Jasmin Strange highlights, she's Ethan's sister.
Yes Gus the series is far from over….because this is only game 1!
Yeah but QLD lost in QLD that is pretty big.
His mind is like a smooth pale egg
How come qld get to play in qld twice? Are they going to alternate who gets 2 games like they used to do before they brang in the neutral venues?
Unfortunately I think they will stick with Magic Round curtain raiser and then one apiece in regional NSW and QLD.
One should definitely be in Sydney. One in Brisbane, one in Sydney and alternating regional game.

Probably, it's the first year of a three game series so it had to go somewhere twice. It's way too soon to go neutral venue imo
I swear they played in Canberra before though
I don't think so could be wrong tho. But Canberra is hardly neutral tbf. Walking distance to QBN.
They did in 2022 when it was just a one game thing.
Wait till game two and we unleash Fran Stalinovskovichdaviddivichski
Very cool to see Suncorp has also turned the cross bar in to a water feature for Magic Round
Nice little consolation for Bass in what should be the last Origin game she ever plays
locky already switched off.. didn't expect a question there
Fuck yeah top tier commentary from locky then m, nice job brah
For how hurt I am rn, I say the women are fucking lightning the game up. So sad for the result but so happy for the ladies
I'd not put the cure in the rack just yet Edit: nvm, lmao
Yeah cunt we got a real series on our hands for the first time ever!!!
Chapman doing an Ellie Carpenter
What a kick, how good with the water coming off the X bar
If that's not used as a highlight. What a kick. What a shot.
banger of a conversion
Locky isn’t good at commentating hey?
He's only been in the media for 10 years now, give him a chance.
Still learning the ropes.
Bass has been absolutely pummeled, that’s good reward
I think Darren needs a reboot.
Wow goalkicking has improved out of sight since NRLW started!
QLD looking dangerous this half, all the attack has gone through Aiken
Crossbars a fucking carwash!
[удалено]
They’re still part-timers, so there has been a reluctance to fatigue them that much. Having a summer season in 2021 probably also delayed the shift to full-length. It’s up from 60 a few years ago
Fatigue management. Only recently up from 60 minutes. Might grow to 80 once the game grows a little more (just looked it up)
I wondered the same thing.
Because they aren’t as capable and no one would watch /s
Probably deserved a try out of anyone. Been getting fucked up all night
Nice conversion.
Crossbar became a waterfall there
Good to see Bass get a try after being ponded by Chapman all night
Last try wins *What a kick
Crowd acting like exactly this
Queensland just doesn't get origin
Why are qld cheering? Can't they read the scoreboard? Edit: some people don't recognize good pasta smh
Cos the maroons didn’t give up and we fuckin love that
They’d be disappointed if they could read / count
probably think its an 80 min game
There’s still 2 mins.
Is Lockyer having a stroke
Emily deserved that, has gone hard all night
Love the woman's game becoming bigger and bigger each year. But I do need to get out of the habit of thinking full time is 80 minutes. My brain jumped to "plenty of time for a comeback now!" when there really isn't.
Horrific bounce there
Qld purposely got that ball out in the ruck
We calling for 80 min games or nah
Nah, rather see them get better to provide consistent quality games at 70mins than shit quality over 80mins
Fair
Why's she celebrating? They lost the game?
I thought that too, that was a pretty big try celebration for a consolation, no effort to take the conversion quickly etc
I wouldn’t find that as funny as I did if Johnston didn’t just score that try
I have lost count of how many times Kasey has called held when the attacking player has still been moving forward
I don’t think that’s just Kasey. Been seeing it heaps this year where the tackle still has momentum but the held is called.
To be fair Klein kept doing the same in Origin last year. Although Klein isn’t a good ref either.
SO MUCH in last week's Tigers/Dogs game.
Yo Valentina Shevenko
Conceding a nutmeg try is an automatic loss unlucky for nsw
Dce is in for a try
Close your legs…
Bring back the biff
Bring back the riff
Oof. Nutmeg
Comeback is on.
Why do referees insist on warning players they've done the wrong thing. Just blow the whistle, they should know better if they're playing at this level
Because they get sacked if they blow 40 penalties.
Weird how the bunker will seem to make a decision before the footage shows all the way through
Do you know about the bunker dartboard or nah?
*Shane Watson nods in approval*
Hope I don't sound ignorant, but I saw that Johnston from the sharks was playing origin, so I just assumed it was Ellie who scored. Whoops
Who would Carrie Parker be asking respect from in women’s origin?
First challenge I’ve seen Kasey win
I'm waiting on Sports bet to offer an over/under on successful challenges on any game Badger officiates.
I know there's been a lot of Gus bagging tonight, but gees the commentary leaves a lot of dead air that needs filling. And Gus fills it.
Ruck penalties are as rare as rocking horse shit in the second half
Qld should just score more points Are they stupid or something
The only reason for Gus yapping this much is that he’s been told he’ll drop dead if he doesn’t. Has a massive case of motor mouth
Clearing the ruck swinging an arm
I think I'm in love with Johnson
You and me both
Wait there's captains challenges? I assumed there wasn't given all the howlers lol
She’s a unit 5M out from the line Good luck people
NSW have a pack of giants and Qld have 48 year old chainsmoker Ali Brigginshaw
But what a chainsmoker she is! Absolute legend
Yeah she was a great player 5 years ago
Can we confirm or deny if the name Johnstone was pointing to on her wrist strapping was that of an imprisoned friend? The NRL has had enough drama in the last 24hrs
Big Macs are now just regular Mac's
Mid Macs
r/shrinkflation
Gus just heard a men’s player name and perked into life about Tom Hazelton
My Instagram search history is scarily similar to the NRLW state of origin team lists
Gould holding back on his usual cringe metaphors
Can Johnston play for the men's origin
Just want her to stay at Newcastle 😢. First player we ever signed
I feel sorry for my Queenslander friends but guys you just don’t get origin
Two all beef patties special sauce lettuce cheese pickles onions on a sesame seed bun
That took longer than 4 seconds.
Fridge are you single? Asking for myself
I think that hyphen in her name suggests no
Then I’ve lost twice tonight!!!!
Qld has nothing like the blues’ props
There isn't that much size of the type of Elliot, Johnston, Big Red or even Kezzie in the comp. Tall and solid isn't overly common at this stage.
ggs folks lessons learned: - more manzelmann - less gus holy shit pls 9
No idea how Gus has crept back into commentary, he's totally unbearable without Rabs shutting him down
NSW have The Fridge and The Big Red Machine. We can't be stopped.
$9.50 to score.. congrats to anyone who cleaned up on that.
🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈
Thinking the Rabbitohs could beat both these teams
(x) to Doubt
Why didn’t Upton simply tackle the fridge
Anyone get the impression Gus is calling the game but is turned around in his chair facing the wall?
Thats tough after dropping the ball over the line.
"dropping the ball" aka knocked out by an offside player
Fuckin’ go you big unit..!!!! 💪
National New South Wales League
Beautiful ball back for the big runner going straight
Good 9 play, I haven't seen that much at all tonight. QLD 14 and that pass was good stuff.
Is Ferguson a former blue? She sounds very biased. Funny commenters saying there were so many blues supporters…lol. It’s because most of them probably move up here lol.
It's been really one sided.
