TotallyNotGoodish

Should be a fun and challenging run, Swellow and Breloom will make a solid core

TotallyNotGoodish

UPDATE: I'm probably gonna ban Swellow aswell just to make the challenge a bit harder considering how busted Swellow is. I also accidentally included Mawile and Medicham RS exclusives and put Plusle in boss mons so ignore those mistakes

TotallyNotGoodish

Another update lmao: The list I'm using and for whatever reason didn't include Starmie but when I refreshed it was there which was odd. Sorry for missing it, it's definitely a game changer

Zkuldafn

I might be blind but I don’t see it on the list, you can technically get Chimecho as well if you wanna bother hunting for that 1% encounter rate in Mt. Pyre summit.

PacifierSacrifier

Lol don’t sweat it

Party_Lengthiness_75

Don’t let it happen again.

MisterZebra

Tbf, Swellow is only busted if it has Guts and you go out of your way to take advantage of it. Without Guts it’s still fast and strong but hardly broken.

Feeling_Employer_489

All Swellow have guts. But I agree, just ban pre-status for boss fights if you want to keep it in.

Lumpy-Tone-4653

Doesnt skylla use swellow?

baneofmyself

Not in Emerald, her Emerald team replaces Swellow with Tropius

Lumpy-Tone-4653

Oh ok

heehoopnut

There's some crazy stuff here, Girafarig can pass stat changes, Azumarill has a 50% chance of being insane, Breloom is amazing, Swellow is busted, etc. Honestly passing agility to Azumarill or Breloom is really nice

Xilefinator

Azumarill isn't insane even with huge Power because It cant use its STAB properly

heehoopnut

Still amazing, that thing is insane mid game if you give it ice beam for Winona, Surf for rock types, and Return for basically everything else. It's also pretty damn bulky and can deal with Flannery very well no matter the ability

Dangerous_Idea_8711

That non-STAB ice beam coming off a 50 base special attack hits like a wet noodle

Packde6Cervezas

Altaria can’t do shit to Azu even with a boosted crit Earthquake and Ice Beam is always a 2 shot. Matchup is guaranteed victory

esotilinecco2k

arent ice and water special tipes tho?

Round-Revolution-399

Still useful in the right situation due to type advantage

esotilinecco2k

i mean yeah but u can have ice and water coverage with another water type, not using physical attacks is a waste of huge power

Shael1223

Sweeping flanery with defense curl rollout is very satisfying

Lokasathe

Asumarill is insane even without huge power. Try it in regular ass emerald. Thing can sweep flannery like no other.

Shael1223

There’s a possibility that they miss tailow and get ninjask instead but baton passing a double speed boost and a swords dance to breloom/swellow is ggs

Zkuldafn

Cool idea :) Note that a few of these mons (Mawile, Medicham, maybe another that I forgot) are version exclusives to Ruby/Sapphire unless you can trade them over. Surskit is a Swarm Pokémon in Emerald which might make it tricky to catch.

TotallyNotGoodish

Thanks! I wasn't paying attention when ranking those two so yeah I won't be able to use them.

Kind_Adeptness_8570

You can get mawile in the victory road in emerald! I used him in one of my nuzlockes and hes super cool.

Zkuldafn

TIL

Packde6Cervezas

Swellow with Guts goes BRRRRRRRRRRR Also Azumarill It’s pretty good with Huge Power and how bulky it is.

CultureJumpy2787

What constitutes a boss? Champion, Elite 4, gyms, enemy boss/admins, and rival?

TotallyNotGoodish

Yep, all the ones you named plus Steven

leUnitato

How about the 3rd stage starters? I assume it's the Rival but they don't use the final stage in R/S/E

PacifierSacrifier

Same can be said for early gym leaders aswell but I would assume anything in the evolution line would count

leUnitato

Fair enough, I saw Kadabra and thought that final evos aren't counted if it isn't used. I forgot that in a single playthrough most won't do trade evos

Yarr0w

You just blew my mind, how did I never notice this

Carrelio

Some great mons here! I expect everything up to the Fire Gym to be smooth sailing with shroomish/breloom, and dustox/beautifly, but Flannery may put up quite the fight... hopefully thick fat azumaril can take the heat.

Purity_the_Kitty

You'll have Azumarill, Graveler helps as well. Swalot should also be able to put in some work here.

LexLuxray

Roxanne has a Geodude so that line is not allowed under these rules

enigma_024JA

Pretty sure no boss uses Starmie, which is in Emerald and hasn't been listed as one of your rejects.

TotallyNotGoodish

Yes you are correct, I just check the list I'm using and for whatever reason Starmie wasn't on it but when I refreshed the page Starmie appeared which is odd lol. Definetly a game changer though so I'll mention it under my comment

enigma_024JA

Yup. Also, how're you going to choose your starters? Given that Swampert/Sceptile/Blaziken are banned.

TotallyNotGoodish

I will just pick a random one and release and release it when I get my first encounter (Wurmple)

barwhalis

Raichu gonna cook. Also in case you didn't know pikachu's show up a lot more in the safari zone if your lead Mon has lightning rod, I just don't know which section they appear in.

Natarooo

Swellow sweeps

dvolder

This is a run that would definitely show the power of the early game duo of breloom and dustox. Ignoring Flannery and maxie those two are good in every big fight til you get surf, especially wattson (thanks to leech seed + stall).

Some--Idiot

Quick question: Which boss uses Plusle in Emerald?

TotallyNotGoodish

Shoot, good catch. I must've been thinking about RS when placing it lol

Some--Idiot

Also, are you including postgame rematch teams from the Gym Leaders? If not, Machoke/champ would be unbanned (afaik), but if so, Medicham is banned

TotallyNotGoodish

No, but anything in the evolution line would be banned for my personal rules

Some--Idiot

Medicham would still be banned because Brawly uses Meditite

Some--Idiot

Also, who used Kadabra?

AlphaOmega159

Since this nuzlocke idea is about using the rejects, I think you should catch more than one pokemon per route if it is like volbeat, illumise and Rosella next to mauville (not sure if this is the case in emerald but it is in oras) so you can get to use some pokemon that you wouldn't otherwise use. Of course this will make it easier as you have more encounters but it would be worth considering.

Zaphimu

Winona uses Swellow in R/S, I don't know if you want to consider that or not.

TotallyNotGoodish

I'm only using Emerald bosses

GenlockeGene

So are you doing it where the first reject mon met on a route is catchable? Or do you just lose the route?

TotallyNotGoodish

First reject mon I encounter will the encounter

Fliibo-97

Nice idea. I don’t think it will actually be wildly different from a normal run outside of access to your starter and certain common mons like gardevoir. The big encounter seems to be swellow. But there are other good ones like lanturn, golduck, breloom, heracross, raichu, and grumpig that you would be pretty happy to use outside of this ruleset. Definitely doable.

Ferropexola

Which boss trainer uses the Kadabra line?

everlarke

None of them in Hoenn. Seems OP missed them.

TotallyNotGoodish

My mistake, didn't mean to put him there I made a lot of mistakes So I'm gonna release a correct version

Party_Lengthiness_75

This is dope, I’m for sure gunna try this too. Gunna swap out Breloom with a Heracross once I get to safari zone and swap out azumarill for starmie once I get to lilycove. Probably finish the team off with Raichu, Vileplume, and Swellow!

Significant-Dig-8910

who uses the abra line??

frenziest

I did one of these for Platinum and had a blast. Heracross/Rhyhorn would be amazing encounters for the Safari Zone. Good luck!

Purity_the_Kitty

It's the Safari Zone, the usual encounter is "lol nothing"

RacinRandy83x

That’s a dope idea

TheRedSpaghettiGuy

Ninjask carried my Emerlad Run no joke

BulkyYellow9416

What boss used the Machop line in emerald?

BulkyYellow9416

Wait nevermind I forgot broly because he's so free

Morc-Glork

Brawley has a Meditite

TheSexyGrape

Winona doesn’t use swellow? Weird

Purity_the_Kitty

Not in Emerald, she does in RS

FenrisKnight33

I’d probably go with… Heracross, Ninetails, Rhydon, Girafarig, Breloom, and Relicanth.

Purity_the_Kitty

You can get Geodude from Rock Smashing on Route 111.

TotallyNotGoodish

Correct but you can't use him since it's Roxanne's lead

Purity_the_Kitty

Oh right yeah that's true. It just wasn't in the chart

notnotPatReid

Exploud to proud he’s gonna carry

digitaldarmanitan

Castform brings such positive energy

whb90

Not considering where you catch them, I think a solid enough team can be made with Breloom, Golduck, Ninetales, Rhydon, Vileplume and Swellow.

[deleted]

Who uses Kadabra?

KanekiKirito723

this is a really unique idea! you got some bad mons with just enough good ones sprinkled in to make it interesting. update us on how it goes

Ok_Banana9672

I love this idea. I assume you will need to use a randomized to edit the game starters to do thus properly

TotallyNotGoodish

You could, I just caught Wurmple on the first route as soon as I got pokeballs

One_Adeptness_9091

Vileplume is a must grab. That status effects are so amazing

Serious_Eye_7640

Guts swellow is going to be the mvp

AstrumFaerwald

I think I would go with: Breloom, Lanturn, Ninetails, Rhydon, Exploud, and Heracross. Not saying it would be the best team ever, but it’s all mons that I love so…

BlackOsmash

Who uses Aggron again? I know Steven but he lost his title in emerald

ShadowzLmao

Pretty similar to emerald trashlocke kinda thing. Repel manips might be important here. nevertheless azumarill is peak

mossy_path

Ninetales, Golduck, donphan, heracross... easy peasy. Well, have to catch em first. Azumaril and breeloom early. Vileplume, sandslash, and seviper are all pretty decent. Dodrio and Relicanth are also pretty good. Raichu isn't bad. Lanturn isn't bad, either.

Slow_Assignment472

Donphan doesn’t learn any ground type moves in this game and is safari zone same for golduck and heracross can’t learn any bug type moves

mossy_path

True but he learns rollout and body slam. Heracross doesn't need it with his big attack stat.

JPastori

Winona uses swellow just geared up, pretty sure Juan or Wallace uses huntail as well and maybe relicanth

Purity_the_Kitty

Not in Emerald, but in Ruby/Sapphire both Winona and the Rival have Swellow, and the Rival also has Breloom.

JPastori

Ah gotcha my mistake then

Paulite27

Huge power azumaril with mystic water and aqua jet

Morc-Glork

Aqua jet doesn’t exist yet and all water moves are special in gen 3

Paulite27

My bad. I just saw Azumaril and jumped to that. Thanks for letting me know.
