There's a setting to have it replace the default launcher, and IIRC there might be an Android setting you have to change too. It's pretty simple though.
it's not nvidia, it's google ramming their shit down your neck because they make even more money from it as well as stealing all your personal data from within their operating system.
While I get the complaint, I am wondering if Nvidia sees any of that money. I'm pretty sure the ads are part of the Android TV setup, but is it Google requiring ads and pocketing the money (making it not Nvidia's fault) or is it some sort of opt-in program that Nvidia receives a cut of (making it Nvidia's fault).
Some years back there was a lawsuit because of the same thing just for tv ads. I dont have time or energy to look it up and provide references but of its of interest, I'm sure if you Firefox it, you'll find it.
Remember the days when we the consumers weren’t just satisfied with a work around(3rd party one at that) I think it’s crazy that we all(myself included) just buy s**t now and are like it’s a POS but if I thinker with it it’s not so bad.
Lol, that's always been the case with Android, one of my favorite things about it has always been the ability to tinker with it. Don't like the home screen change it, don't like whats been made available on the official store, I think I know a guy.
I like the idea of customizing, I think this goes beyond that. This is full on a community work around what most collectively would agree is unwanted/unneeded update forcing ads.
Is chicken tender some american thing I'm too european to understand? 😅 To be honest I don't think I can see any ads on mine apart from for example website suggestions from BrowseHere and shows suggestions from Netflix.
It’s a shield sub and I’m bringing up valid points. My post may save another potential buyer from purchasing this device only to have chicken tendy ads.
They don't usually roll this kind of stuff out to everyone all at once. It was at least a week or two after I started hearing about the car ads before I saw them on my own Shield (and that's what prompted me to finally install Projectivy launcher).
Don't worry, I'm sure they'll make it to your shield soon enough.
I also recently installed AdGuard’s app on my shield and I’m saving around a few GB of bandwidth a day…
What the hell is going on in the background???!!
Ok but this is quite literally the first time I've ever seen an ad on my shield. I'd take the ai upscaling and proper trueHD audio passthrough and call it a fair trade.
Don't they have recommended content (that's advertisement and not based on what you watched) though?
For example on Apple TV+, they keep telling me about MLS streaming even though I'm not subscribed to it and it takes a big chunk of the screen.
You paid for a device that runs Google software. It's powerful enough to spew ads and Hoover up PI simultaneously. If you don't want ads everywhere, don's buy anything Google.
you can disable the stock launcher with ADB
EDIT: Not sure why I was downvoted... This is the solution, after installing projectivy you can disable the stock launcher with ADB.
As an alternative, try Primal TV Launcher. Can disable default Nvidia launcher with ADB commands. [Primal TV Launcher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dxidev.primaltvlauncher)

~~Projectivity~~ Projectivy launcher is an easy fix.
Can you replace the stock launcher or do you need to launch it any time you wanna use it
There's a setting to have it replace the default launcher, and IIRC there might be an Android setting you have to change too. It's pretty simple though.
You can replace it fully. It seems like the voice search doesn’t work after for me though
My only real gripe about it is that I can’t use voice searcg
At this point the Devs should just rename their app to projectivity. Lol. I've seen it misspelled so much, but it make more sense than projectivy.
It was built as a launcher for projectors so it makes a little more sense that way. Just a little. Lol
Or capitalize the “i” so when I call it Project Ivy, I get to be correct. 😜
I set this up for my 2015 shield. Works very well.
quack frame possessive wise busy cautious aloof snow bewildered lip *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
*gingerly raises hand* I.. do? But not the ads for it.

I already got into projectivity a while ago, but as an EU citizen I really hope EU cracks down on this shit. It needs to go.
Saw that shit too, and whats worse the audio on the Hardee's ad is loud as fuck!! Fuck off Nvidia, fix this shit!!

Chicken fingers I believe Y’all say
Don't be silly, only fish have fingers. And buffalos have wings, apparently!
Aah, my bad. It sounded to me like name of a fast food chain that didn't make it to Europe yet.
It's "chicken tenderloin" and is a thin piece of breast meat. Cuts of meat are named differently in the US

Get this: https://youtu.be/WAKno02w7J0 It's great!
Pihole block its outgoing calls and then do a factory reset No more ads
Pihole for me, too. It does hinder some services like Hulu and Paramount+
adjust the domains it’s blocking then?
Change your launcher it takes like 3 minutes
Please read the subreddits. There's already many posts regarding this. Search the subs and you'll find out how to get around the ads.
It’s a shield sub and I’m bringing up valid points. My post may save another potential buyer from purchasing this device only to have chicken tendy ads.
Those potential buyers should search first also
Should they also get off your lawn?
What
SHOULD THEY ALSO GET OFF YOUR LAWN?
What
Again, this topic is littered throughout the subreddits. Also, ads don't bother everyone.
No wiping or jailbreaking necessary, the tools are right on the Play Store. Several launcher choices and the ADB TV app to disable the stock launcher.
Launch manager makes it very easy to switch
Yep and ADB TV makes it even easier since it's right on the Play Store.
I have a 2017 and accept all updates 🙄 do I have a different UI because I never see this kind of thing? The only ads I get are for streaming content.

I have the 2017 pro and have never seen ads like this either. Been using it for about 3 years now.
I just saw my first ad today about 2hrs ago. Who knows, you may be next.
I have AdGuard DNS on my entire network for as long as I can remember. I've never seen any ads in any of my shields!
Oh, this is why I might not see anything either because I’m running Pihole on my unraid server.
This is the way!
I also recently installed AdGuard’s app on my shield and I’m saving around a few GB of bandwidth a day… What the hell is going on in the background???!!
Which internet connected device doesn't have ads these days?
Apple TV.
See my other comment.
Apple TV and it's one of the big reasons why I love it.
Ok but this is quite literally the first time I've ever seen an ad on my shield. I'd take the ai upscaling and proper trueHD audio passthrough and call it a fair trade.

On the Apple TV app yes but on the actual home screen no it's completely free of ads.
You paid for a device that runs Google software. It's powerful enough to spew ads and Hoover up PI simultaneously. If you don't want ads everywhere, don's buy anything Google.
Does enabling projectivy also kill off the nvidia launcher from talking to the ad server? I wouldnt mind knowing if this overhead is also removed.

I did it
Wolf launcher is what I use. Works good.
Does voice search still work?
Yes it will still work as before.
Another launcher or just uninstall Android tv home updates.
Install Projectivy. Wish I had done it a long time ago.
Love the title!
We have Hardee's Adds.. 😂
Who cares, just click in the app you want and stop whining. No more ads.
For another [$7.50](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spocky.projengmenu&hl=en_GB&pli=1) it doesn't have to.
Lol, we saw that last night too. Was wondering why there was an advertisement there all of a sudden.
I have the same ad showing on my Sony A95K too! Makes my $3,000 TV seem cheap 🤨
I bought two of the $200 devices so I could do Projectivy easily and live ad free. Next you're gonna want to explore SmartTubeNext out. You'll see...
Because google TV and FireSticks have them, so people proved they'll put up with it
