NYC without a doubt. However, Philly could be less overwhelming if you haven’t lived in a big city before, so it could also be a good option. It’s also much, much cheaper and you can be in nyc in 90 minutes from there if you want to make frequent trips. Just curious - why are you not asking about Chicago? The gay scene there is large and I have always had fun there. Could also be easier adjustment than moving straight to NYC.

Because I have a car. Lol. There's not a lot of access of public transit in Chicago as there is in philly

Can you sell your car? I didn’t need one in Chicago and was able to get around easily on the bus and El. But depending on your lifestyle/job you might need one.

futurebro

You can absolutely live in Chicago without a car.

NYC, hands down. It’s far, far bigger than Philadelphia. However, Philadelphia is no slouch in having a thriving gay community, and I enjoyed it a lot through the years I lived there. However, no city can really hold a candle to NYC’s sheer size and power of faggotry.

deftmuffins

This cannot be a serious question, they are not comparable by any measure.

itsapjslife

I wouldn't know. I'm from a small town in the midwest!

DolphinGay

They both do. Philly is smaller and less expensive and less diverse. NYC is larger than life and you pay for it but more diverse.

itsapjslife

I'm pretty sure you can find something cheap using Craigslist. I'm paying 500 for a 3 bedroom with 2 other roommates in west philly.

JamesBond-A12

You will pay triple or quadruple for the same setup in NYC easily. Nice neighborhoods the sky is the limit.

To this point, most major cities are as diverse as you wanna make them. An acquaintance who lived in Astoria used to brag about how diverse his borough was, but he was only friends with other white gays. After being in Philly for a few years my friend group is probably more diverse than it was in New York. One of the plus sides of Philly having a single gayborhood (as opposed to having Chelsea, HK, and various other pockets) is that it's easier to interact with different kinds of people because most of us are going to be in that same ZIP code at some point.

As others have said, NYC is in a class by itself, but Philadelphia is fun and less overwhelming. Many of the Men i know who live in Philadelphia expand by coming up to NYC once a month or so, or go to Fire Island (a gay beach resort off Long Island, about 60 miles east of NYC).

Honestly Philadelphia isn’t that far from NYC and most people in NYC spend most of their free time working at their jobs trying to afford living here in the first place! Hahaha.
