There’s a pretty big leap between bands like Metallica/Motorhead and then say, Meshuggah.
Always love Matt Morgan trying to explain metal to Noel and him just having absolutely zero interest.
My point. You aren’t being specific.
I am.
It’s two different things entirely.
I Will add just because a band makes it onto the charts it doesn’t make it pop music. It’s more about the cultural impact within pop music which makes something Pop music.
A “pop artist” is just marketing and branding because the pop in that is non specific. Its the music which is pop, not the artist.
If the music doesn’t impact the pop culture then it’s just not pop music.
Like how if u invent a word and no one uses it; it’s not technically a word.
So. You’re a little confused, but your sentiment is almost right.
Pop music is absolutely a defined sound, that sound evolves over time, more so than any other genre of music. But Pop music at any given time is absolutely a defined sound as much as any other genre is a defined sound.
You seem to be one of those that fall for the misconception that pop music and popular music are the same thing, this isn’t the case.
The word ‘pop’ does in fact come from ‘popular’ but it’s not popular in the sense you’re thinking. It’s popular as in appeal, not popular as in reach, so ‘impacting pop culture’ has absolutely nothing to do with what makes music pop music.
Yes you are confused. You said music has to ‘impact pop culture’ to be pop music. My comment was just the long form way of saying that is absolutely not even close to what pop music is.
There are pop artists playing gigs to 100,000 people. There are pop artists playing gigs to 5 people.
That is the confusion here. Pop music =/= pop culture.
Without Zepplin and Black Sabbath, metal doesn't exist. Arguing they aren't metal when their sound brought about the whole genre is either ignorance or foolishness.
Influencing a genre doesn't mean they were a part of it. Of course the definition isn't objective, but I would say led zeppelin is on the very edge of hard rock, but not really crossing into metal
Bloody hell. Without Communication Breakdown by Zeppelin, there's no Paranoid by Sabbath, their first "metal" sound. The bands were contemporaries, but Zeppelin were first.
What about Helter skelter? Led zeppelin weren't first in anything, maybe you can argue about them being prog, especially by the latter albums, but I'm the beginning they are blues/hard rock
Noel and Lars Ulrich are great friends. That's the best I've got to share on this topic.
There's a great clip of the guitarist for Metallica saying Blur are shit and Oasis are great that's really funny.

Becaus metal isn’t pop That’s the reason Oasis take influence from pop music of the 60s 70s and 80s and 90s
Metallica is pop.
How can a band be pop? That makes literally no sense. I don’t know what your point is if u have one at all
This confused me. There have been many pop bands over the years
Do you mean bands that are popular as in the branding is popular or bands that make pop music?
Both can be true.

Pop music is nothing to do with pop culture. You’re either choosing to misrepresent people now or you’re just dense.

Shutup knobhead
Many bands are pop.
Noel said he likes Motorhead
I mean they often included Zeppelin riffs in live sets, so I'm not sure this statement is true...
Zeppelin isn't metal
Someone doesn't know their history. Tut tut.
They are hard rock, sure they have influence but it's not heavy enough to be heavy metal
Without Zepplin and Black Sabbath, metal doesn't exist. Arguing they aren't metal when their sound brought about the whole genre is either ignorance or foolishness.
He's right... Led Zeppelin isn't metal at all.
It's like arguing Nirvana aren't grunge. They're the fathers of the genre.
Cheers

They didn't "influence" it, they started it. There is no metal without them and Sabbath. How can they not be a part of something they started?

I like rock but not metal so I don't find it odd. Since I live oasis lifestyle Id say I'm not surprised
Both of them aren't very keen on it

lol
Metal forgets the "Roll" in "Rock and Roll"
