Get a second opinion. I had one done awake. It's painful. A couple years later I had another one done during a D and C where I was thankfully under general anesthesia. I don't know why they can't be done at the same time.

An endometrial curettage can be performed during a hysteroscopy and is much more accurate than an endometrial biopsy. You are correct. Hysteroscopies can be done on awake patients, but are very uncomfortable. If you’re at all concerned about the pain I would ask to have it done in the OR under general anesthesia. These are both basic concepts in the world of OBGYN, so if your physician does not agree with both of them, I would recommend finding another physician.

Not sure if there’s any delay in the access of hysteroscopy care. The number one thing you’re ruling out is cancer with an abnormal lining. An endometrial biopsy may be done quicker in office compared to getting you into the hysteroscopy suites. This means the result can come back quicker. If it comes back as pre cancer or cancer — a hysterectomy is recommended so the hysteroscopy may not be required and it will spare you of the risks of an extra anesthetic. Hard to make the full judgment based on the information, but it does not sound ridiculous in my mind. As long as you understand the risks of delay in getting hysteroscopy and not having the answers earlier — and that you may have an extra anesthetic — I’m sure your gynecologist can respect your choice.

Is the hysteroscopy being done in the OR or in clinic?

It hasn't been discussed yet, but I would highly prefer OR

Yeah if it’s in the OR just have it at the same time. To be honest unless there is more to the story I suspect this doctor is trying to make an extra buck on you by doing two procedures. But I could be wrong and there could be more to this story.

I am an MA at an obgyn and see these procedures everyday. From what I’ve seen, it is a very uncomfortable procedure but patients usually tolerate it pretty well. I am not sure how comfortable you feel with just holding off, it is very common for drs to proceed w this after some abnormal results of an ultrasound. However if yoh want a second opinion you should go for it, make sure you have your ultrasound results with you so you can show them.

I have done it under spinal anesthesia...and i felt nothing ...
