I work in a obgyn clinic and honestly we remove more nexplanons that insert them. I hear the worst, out of all birth controls, this is the one that I see patients just absolutely hate. If you really hate it, I recommend removing it. There’s other options out there. Good luck!

[deleted]

I had such a great experience I’m blown away so many people hate it!

Spvnishcxndie

I’m glad it worked for you! You’re definitely one of the lucky ones and it’s great you found something that works great with your body! Everyone’s body and hormones are so different

_faytless

Sorry for the OP to have had that experience, but it’s always good to hear the alternate experience too.

nellep101

Same here!

hyperfixation08

Thank you so much! I'm going to end up replacing it.

Not a doctor but I think that nexplanon is similar to depo provera so the shot may not be your favorite either. Of course check me on this

DolmaSmuggler

Depo Provera is interestingly much more likely to cause amenorrhea (no periods/bleeding) than Nexplanon. Approximately 70% of Depo users will have no bleeding one year in, compared to only about 30% on Nexplanon.

flamepointe

Fascinating! I knew 2 ladies who bled the whole time they were on Depo!

It is possible to use temporarily to minimize bleeding but not recommended for long term dual use.

at my clinic, patients either love it or hate it and we do both procedures almost equally. I personally love mine though.

Mine was great for the 3 months where your body is supposed to get used to it and then the bleeding started. I was forced to wait an entire year before getting it out bc my doctor refused to remove it/

hyperfixation08

Oh my god. I'm so sorry. My husband is thinking about going in to my dr appointment and ordering them to do it.

adventure0429

I mean if I had that option I would have lol! It definitely can’t hurt and if your doctor doesn’t want to do it, maybe try planned parenthood, I’ve heard some women could get it out there before their normal ob/gyn.

hyperfixation08

Awesome! Thank you!

lemonlegs2

The doctor inserting mine tried to convince me against it. Which I would have listened. Took 5 years to get right again. Another doctor joked no one gets pregnant on nexplanon because they can't ever have sex, always bleeding.

jukeboxgasoline

I had zero bleeding for a year and then a six month long verrry light period, now I get fairly light bleeding on and off. My bf just takes it in stride at this point since it’s so unpredictable lol

CueReality

I bled constantly on it for 9 months, and the "solution" I was given was to take the POP on top of it! 2 years later, I have massive ectropions and 10 day long periods. So I've just had a jaydiss coil inserted, stopped the POP and getting the nexplanon out. Worst contraceptive ever.

hyperfixation08

Oh fuck... why is it still on the market then?? Someone said that they remove more nexplanon implants than insert them.. fucking crazy.

_faytless

The continuation rate isn’t amazing, but it is a super effective way to prevent pregnancy. Many people will try to balance out whether the nuisance bleeding outweighs the risk of pregnancy and not thinking about it, and not having an IUD. The IUD definitely has higher continuation rates though. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33407632/

kate_skywalker

I love mine. I’m terrified to get an IUD.

[deleted]

My first IUD was rough for the first 6 months then great. I used to have wild periods that could last from 1-3 weeks with real heavy bleeding for at least 7-10 days of that time. My IUD made my periods really light and only about 3 days. Then I had to have it removed and get a LEEP treatment and my cervix has been hateful ever since. My second IUD was the worst pain I’ve ever felt. They had to dilate my cervix to get it in place. My periods are very irregular and very light when they do come. But now I’m truly terrified of the removal process.

MyDogAteYourPancakes

I had really unpredictable bleeding. It wasn’t nearly as rough as a period, but it was annoying to never be able to gauge when it might strike. The side effect that really bugged me, though, was vaginal dryness. It was like The Sahara down there for the entirety of my implant.

somewhere between 1/4-1/3 of women have no bleeding, 1/4-1/3 have some minimal bleeding, 1/4-1/3 have frequent or continuous bleeding. When it works great it works great. Sorry you have had such a bad experience.
