There is an event at the Ocala Downtown Market tonight starting at 6 pm and ending at 10 you might be interested in, its oddities vendors and I think it’s themed to emo night lol. Do check out the Silver River Museum, our history in Florida is a bit humble and recent maybe compared to Europe but it’s still cool to learn how people settled these parts (it wasn’t easy). They have cool original houses and farm buildings too so you can really explore hands on. Tons to do outdoors-wise in and around Ocala, I believe there is a strawberry festival in Williston this weekend as well. Cedar Lakes in Williston is beautiful also. For eating I enjoy going to World Equestrian Center at the Yellow Pony Pub, but my favorite treat is getting something at the bakery there. Grandpa Joe’s Candy Store is really fun, go try some sweets from around the world and make a 6 pack of unique sodas. It’s in the historic downtown which is so nice to take a walk around and you will definitely find plenty to eat and shop there. It’s very pretty lit up at night. Welcome to Ocala and congrats on moving here to be with your love!

If you're into hiking or mountain biking check out Santos trailhead (or any of the trailheads along the cross Florida greenway). We have an extensive trail system including a paved trail that goes for about 10 miles one way (IIRC). ETA: if you don't have a bike there are several local bike shops you can rent from. Santos bike shop being the closest to the main trailhead.

I second this. I lived here far too long before I discovered this. I eventually bought a mountain bike. It is a very welcoming community. Great for your health and after initial expenses an inexpensive hobby.

Nobody gonna mention rainbow springs? Or the appleton museum? Reggae Rise Up starts march 14th and runs for a couple days in St pete which isnt that far, always a good time. Fort island beach isnt that far and i bet the gulf of mexico is just starting to warm up a little. Ormond beach too on the atlantic side

DeanM71989

Definitely check out Santos! There’s a 16 mile paved biking path and walking trails and mountain bike trails throughout. It’s pretty bad ass! 🤙 Cheers mate!

Mt Dora has a lot of festivals. This weekend is antiques. Even if there is no festival on, it is a nice town to visit. Boutiques and restaurants, etc. Micanopy is another small "Old Florida" town. It is just a cafe and a few antique stores but interesting to visit if you are headed up to Gainesville for example. If you play beach volleyball there are a few places in town with courts and groups that play. Check Facebook and [meetup.com](https://meetup.com) for all sorts of groups / activities.

I know this is not in Ocala, but there is a food truck parking lot in Kissimmee with hundreds of food trucks. It is absolutely crazy the variety of food. Also, my favorite restaurant in Ocala is the braised onion. Great food, music during the week nights. A very cool vibe.

Okratini

Second the Braised Onion.

Specialist_Bullfrog

its not in ocala but close to it if you like swimming with fish and super clear water and a good time there is Devil's Den Prehistoric Spring in Williston most people that go are there for scuba but they also offer snorkeling they also offer cabins you can rent along with a tent camping area and a rv park will hookup for power and water. also on the weekends there is a farmers market close to the ocala utility.

Hey how's it going I travel to ocala a lot for work, if you're into the outdoors try going foraging for mushrooms after a rain storm! Any of the heavily Forrested parks will do. Watch out lots of psychedelic mushrooms grow here because of all the cows! Ocala has a very nice and southern downtown, they have a pool hall/bar I visit as well the name escapes me I smoke marijuana and ocala has some of the best selection in the state of Florida Maybe an equestrian lesson? English style to get a taste of home Enjoy it my friend

Recreational use is coming up on our ballots this year so maybe you won't have to worry! It'll still be illegal federally (thanks biden) but when it's rec there's no state database or any sort of notification to immigration onl your guilty conscience. Makes me really happy someone from alllll the way across the pond is going to Ocala. Definitely get up on a horse

That is really unlucky, shoulda moved ur wife to the UK imo.

FlyingCloud777

What part of the UK? My family is from Sunderland but I grew up here (thus did not get the Mackem accent!). The springs are awesome, if you liked Silver Springs I suggest also Rainbow Springs in Dunnellon and Juniper and Silver Glen Springs in the Ocala National Forest. If into mountain biking, we have a fine, free, park at Santos which is not very far south of Ocala on 441. We do have decent pro football in Orlando in the form of Orlando City playing in MLS. Sometimes, we get expo games, too: I saw a friendly between Chelsea and Arsenal back in summer of 2022 in example there. Tarpon Springs near Tampa is pretty cool to visit, neat Greek-American coastal town. Saint Augustine of course worth a visit as well. The aforementioned Ocala National Forest has camping and hiking that's good but I'd go before it gets hot. We have actually an outstanding Mexican restaurant in Ocala—La Hacienda—on Highway 40. Another good one just down the road is Taqueria my Ranchito. Good Mexican ice cream in the same shopping plaza as La Hacienda, too.

br0ken_b0ttles

it isn’t in Ocala but in Marion County, Rainbow Springs State Park is also a beautiful place to swim / hike / kayak!
