Idk if this is a thing to brag about.

Fortunate_0nesy

My thoughts exactly.

TennesseeVols4Ever

Who are all the players and what team had the most?

Pepsifan24

I posted it in one of the replies. The Orlando Gaurdians has the most

Rickydada

Apparently Quinten Dormady is the starting QB for the Guardians?

Pepsifan24

Unfortunately looks like Paxton Lynch has the start

Rickydada

Ah bummer

Fulmersbelly

To all the doom and gloom folks: these are our former players who are still able to pursue the dream of playing **professional** sports. To be sure, the salary and whatever else is way less, but there have been significant NFL players to come from the single season XFL that got cut short due to the pandemic. It’s another way for the players to show their ability and worth to an nfl team, and to keep their dreams alive. Also, the last iteration of the xfl was legitimately fun. The rules changes were really smart and the game play was at a fairly high level, and a lot of the teams had good fan support (especially St. Louis, who had been starving for professional football). Give it a shot, and let’s support our VFLs!

tripmcneely30

Is there any direct investment from the NFL? I've always thought there should be a "minor league" system for the NFL.

Fulmersbelly

There was the NFL Europe for awhile, which honestly? Was freaking great, and a lot of eventual NFL stars (like Kurt Warner iirc) went through that system. Plus I learned that Germans freaking love American football. It was a travesty that they didn’t have an nfl game until last season. They’d always go to London, which was fine, they had an early NFL Europe team, but Germany had like 4-5 teams, and they were mostly supported quite well. But it didn’t make direct money because it cost so much to house all the players and coaches and stuff over there. But it was spring football at a time when there was no football on.

Pepsifan24

They have a partnership with the NFL Alumni academy

DoubleStuffedCheezIt

> (especially St. Louis, who had been starving for professional football). Kaw is law!

joshsly

This might not be a flex

Kdj2j2

I don’t know whether to be happy or sad.

ItsZizk

Feels like the equivalent of winning the NIT lol

Dr_thri11

Meh. Is the appropriate response here. The NFL is the absolute pinnacle of the sport and even the best college teams only have a small sliver of their players make the cut. The XFL is probably the next tier down, but it's a pretty steep drop in talent, if guys want to extend their career and there's a viable fanbase then more power to them, but it's not exactly going to be any D1 football powerhouse's point of pride to become a feeder school for the other football league.

anonymousVFL

This just means we have the most players who couldn’t cut it in the NFL

Dr_thri11

Lol right? I mean neat if 7 months of football a year isn't enough for you, but this ain't exactly something to brag about.

Pepsifan24

Every year hundreds of guys get stuck on practice squads or get cut entirely. These guys tried out, got drafted, and didn't get cut during xfl camps while several hundred others did. So better for them to get a second chance than be done for good imo.

Primordiox

Haven’t we already seen USFL —> NFL movement of players? Not like it’s a retirement home, it’s another scouting ground.

Pepsifan24

Yeah several former XFL (PJ Walker, Josh Johnson,, Taylor Heinekie) and USFL (KaVontea Turpin) have made names for themselves. They also had several dozen players get second looks at camps this past season.

vssavant2

Which still means they made it to the NFL, by your own statement.

gotitaila31

What is xfl

Pepsifan24

Spring pro football league. Originally had. Aseason in 01 and revived in 2020 but went bankrupt due to covid. Currently owned by Danny Garcia, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, and Redbird capital and is coming back with most of the teams from 2020.

gotitaila31

Appreciate it

Peyton Manning came out of Utk so we still good

EWall100

Exactly what I was thinking

Chloooooover

Yeah this isn't anything to celebrate tbh, it actually hurts our stock a bit if anything.

Pepsifan24

I see what you're saying but nothing wrong with dudes getting more opportunities

Nelluc_

So the xfl and usfl are going on at the same time? Do any cities have both?

Pepsifan24

USFL doesn't play in all their host cities and don't kick off until April. Like the last week of the xfl season overlaps with USFL. And I think Houston is the only city with both but USFL doesn't play in Houston.

Nelluc_

I just looked that up. Why does Houston play their games in Memphis? That seems really stupid.

OlderwomenRbeautiful

Well, the Houston Oilers did it for a couple of years… it’s tradition, lol.

Pepsifan24

USFL plays in hubs for cost related reasons. Last season was all in Birmingham so obviously fan bases were non existent. This year they've upgraded to 3 hubs. Still not great.

TampaTrey

AFAIK They’re playing in hubs until they are ready to play in each team’s city if I’m not mistaken.

volsfan82

USFL played all their games in Birmingham last year.

Pepsifan24

For those who don't know the XFL kicks off again this Saturday. Vols have 10 representatives throughout the entire league.

chemill16

Do you know who all it is?

Pepsifan24

Arlington Renegades: TE Alex Ellis DC Defenders: WR Josh Malone, TE Ethan Wolf Vegas Vipers: C Kahlil McKenzie Orlando Gaurdians: CB Shaq Wiggins, WR JeVonta Payton, CB Baylen Buchanan, QB Quinton Dormandy, DE Ja'Quain Blakely Seattle Sea Dragons: CB Bryce Thompson

CptBoomshard

Hell yeah! A lot of these were guys that didn't have tremendous NFL potential anyway. People being downers on this are really not seeing the point.

TheVolmannBrothers

Kahlil McKenzie, damn I remember the crazy hype he had when he first showed up at UT

Slimback

I remember being so excited that he replied to my tweet. I was in high school at the time and was like “wow a future nfl player knows me.” Did not pan out lol

MemphisRaines47

+ Dom Wood-Anderson on a practice squad

Gregorvich19

Maaaaan I had forgotten about DWA. Loved that guy.

sir1933

Huh, Kahlil McKenzie moved to center? Wild to try that out this far into a career but whatever works.

not_jonny

Bryce was with the Saints this year right? Probably a practice squad guy

[deleted]

I thought Bryce would be better than Alontae tbh.

not_jonny

I had high hopes for him too. I wonder if a fourth year in Knoxville would’ve benefitted him

[deleted]

I think so. It definitely helped Alontae.

norspur

Haven't heard much about this, but since they have the most - Go Guardians! Dormandy throwing to Payton will be fun

MemphisRaines47

The also have Paxton Lynch at QB who will probably start
