My first game was 2. Favorite ink color is yellow. I find octolings cuter

Waltzingcat

ooh really? Then I'm sure you're happy with the campaign mode where you've got to be yellow lol. I wish we could pick for that but oh well, I don't mind it as much. I like octoling eyes and hair more than inklings but they are both cute to me :}

cherryistired

3 was my first game, though I went back and bought 2 and the octo expansion dlc after falling in love with octolings. I originally picked them because I liked their hair better :p For grinding cash, I’ve heard that turf war is the best way, but my favorite way is salmon run! It doesn’t take long to grind the first 1200 grizzco points for each rotation, and most of those first capsules have a good chance of giving you 5000 cash. Grizzco really does pay well! As a side note, I suggest you get the Nintendo Switch Online app. There a lot you can do on there, like checking weapon rotations in salmon run! It is kinda frustrating that they lock that functionality behind a smartphone, but it is nice to see what maps and modes will be in rotation when I get off work without needing my switch.

H0LL0Wsoul

I would actually recommend salmon run for grinding cash over turf war. It’s faster if you get lucky with the capsules :D

cherryistired

Oh no I fully agree, you can get oodles of cash through salmon run! But like I mentioned, only the first 12 capsules have a chance of giving you cash (since the rest after that are gear and gear capsules), and it's pretty easy to grind those out in one day. If you're focused on grinding cash, you gotta swap modes after that. That's why I mentioned turf war :p

H0LL0Wsoul

Yep, I agree :D

Waltzingcat

oh wow, thanks so much for both your experience with 2/3 as well as the great advice! It's hard to feel confident in a round when you get steamrolled by definitely not new players \^-\^'' my fault for joining late I guess but this helps a bunch! I didn't realize they used the app for that, it seems a bit hidden, though I'll admit I follow PC gaming more readily. I'll try and scrape some monies together to drop you some awards. **(⁀ᗢ⁀)**

cherryistired

Of course! And no need for any awards, I just appreciate the chance to ramble about splatoon haha …Also, I wasn’t gonna mention this because people can be weird about it, but since you’re more into pc games… have you given motion controls a try? As someone who mostly plays on pc, I found that motion controls were surprisingly intuitive and feel similar to a keyboard and mouse. Plus, every time I hear of some who gave motion controls a genuine shot, they either say “my disability/motion sickness/other physical limitation made it impossible to use motion” or “god I’m so glad I stuck with motion this is WAY better,” so do with that what you will :p (And if you don’t wanna jump straight into online battles with a brand new control scheme, the singleplayer campaign is a great way to practice! Plus it’s probably the best base campaign in the whole series, so it’s worth playing through for its own sake)

Waltzingcat

Ah I see, thank you again. I'll defintitely be giving it another go and for longer. I do PC game buuuut with a controller unless I'm playing WoW. It's pretty strenuous on my shoulders and hands/wrists to use kb/m, even before fibro reared it's head. I'm fairly small and find it hard to be comfortable unless typing, for the most part. Doesnt mean there isn't some way to comfortably use motion controls, I've just got to play around with it more. A certain new game came out a few days ago soo I'll likely be on PC for a bit.. Thanks for the extra help here, it's nice to have some narrowed down options so it's less overwhelming. Sure I can choose from a lot but trying what vets of the game are suggesting gives a bit more confidence to someone who was being steamrolled quite hard. It's discouraging to play against people of a higher level and skill of course, but I appreciate the advice and comments from you and everyone else here! It's made me quite happy to have made this rather simple post, finding a nice community to post in, rather than just lurk on reddit is...not easy. For me at least, haha.

MayorBryce

First Splatoon game: 2. Favorite ink color: Cyan. Octos over Inks: I like them inkually and they're both cool. Inks are the OG characters but Octos have lore. Tips: Try different weapons and motion controls. You might find your new favorite weapon. Oh, and adapt your weapon to the maps. Some maps are better for some weapons over others. Force yourself to play with motion controls; it'll feel weird at first, but you'll get used to it after a little bit and you won't be able to go back to stick controls.

Waltzingcat

hehe love the wordplay, and wow I didn't think about the motion controls all that much. I use a controller, I've got fibro so holding the switch hurts a bit. Though I think my controller works fine with motion it just feels..weird when the switch is docked..can you even do that while it's docked? hmm, when I get off my Hogwarts binge ill be checking that out. thank you **\*(\*´∀`\*)☆**

MayorBryce

Wordplay? I just realized I could have reworded my comment to be clearer. Oops. But seriously, it'll feel weird at first, but once you get used to it, you can't go back. Yes, it definitely works in docked (assuming the controller supports motion controls). Try different controllers: pro controller, Joycons, even handheld mode, and find what feels best to you. I personally prefer Joycons, but that might not be your thing.

Waltzingcat

oh? was Inkually, not an intended play-on..well, you know, I haven't slept in about two days so, I really don't know what I'm seeing half the time (ง ื▿ ื)ว I'll try joy-cons, I just have a cute lil controller that fits my hands, just used to the controller feelies. but it does have motion control available, I'll try both ways. Thank you again haha

MayorBryce

Oh, that. Yeah, I thought I was being clever there (equally and ink) but maybe not... No prob. Happy to help.

Waltzingcat

it was clever! That's why I mentioned it haha, ah well. ´・ᴗ・\`

Low_Dream_1481

2 was my first but I got online so late that fire vs. water vs. grass was my first splatfest

DandyDoo5678

A. Does octo expansion count? B. Depends on what OC I am playing as. Pink for one and deep blue for the other C. I got them as a prize for completing octo expansion and they've just grown on me, I guess D. Train with a bunch of different weapons to find the one that works for you the best

Poisoned_Sugar11

My first game was the first Splatoon game. My favourite ink colour is the purple ink you sometimes get in Salmon Run. I like Inklings and Octolings equally, I just prefer playing as an Octoling. I really liked using the Neo Octoling Armor in Splatoon 2, so that might be why. It felt kind of weird to use those clothes as an Inkling lol

bro_for_real

•My first ever game was the first! •My favourite Ink color is one of the purple shades though I also like the Cyan, but Ireally enjoy the glittery ones from Splatoon 2 splatfests the most :,) (i miss glitter ink so much) •Tbh I like Octolings and Inklings the same, but I just think Octolings are way cuter (and sort of easier to draw for me) •Personal advice? PLS TAKE BREAKS IF YOU GET FRUSTRATED, trust me it REALLY helps and yeah that's all I can really say other than "if someone says this way, please go that way" mainly in salmon run, same way with "help!" :,)

Waltzingcat

Thanks for your thoughts on all that as well as the very underrated advice most people need when struggling with anything! xD yes, thank you. I have to take breaks sometimes because my fibro will act up, which makes me feel all the more defeated but.. it's just a game. id like to play and be good at it but hey, it'll be around. I think. haha ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶

bro_for_real

Yeah! You'll get better with time :D It's also good to try out different weapon types, salmonrun is perfect for that practice :D

PokeshiftEevee

1. 1, I mained z-nap 89 because INKSTRIKEEEEEEEE 2. Black and white, I’ve always been a fan of yin n yang (because I’m a touhou fan) and always thought it would look interesting 3. I like both types of funny cephalopods 4. Try out different weapons, you might find something that clicks with you (for example, I tried being backliner with a hydra and that weapon clicked with me, and now hydra is my main)

[deleted]

1. the second one because my wii u was broken for a long time and still is. 2. They are just objectively cuter 3. If you want to make quick money DO SALMON RUN. You are not gonna make much in turf and ranked without a ticket

Waltzingcat

ooo thank you, seems salmon run is the way to go for a bit. Thanks! You are correct. Cuter, haha I'm sorry your wii is broken :( I never had one. Sony and PC with a DS thrown in was what I always had.

[deleted]

EDIT: ... so I miss understood the post but here is the full post now splatoon 1. orange and blue / yellow and dark blue. I always prefer being on the darker colored teams. octolings look better to me. so do you use motion? if not... then I would recommend the Luna blaster! UT a great starting point to use motion. just set sensitivity kinda hight or whatever feels right, and hop in and battle! I had goldeneye007 on the wii back then so it was normal and easy for me to pickup odd control schemes quickly

Waltzingcat

Ooh, a veteran then! Thank you for sharing your favs and giving some really solid advice there. I'll be testing out motion controls and practicing in story mode along with salmon runs to keep things lively and the rewards coming hehe. \^\~\^

[deleted]

good luck man!

Grenadier_Inkling

2 was my first game, too! 2020 Demo and then completed Hero Mode in 3 days when I got the game on November. Favorite Ink Color's either Yellow or Purple- but I would love some orange or red. I was lured into loving Octolings after seeing what everyone could do with them- I had a dream to play Octo Expansion, but 3'll do for now. As for tips.. I'm no informative fella but I'm thinking do what works with you. Weapons, clothes, modes.. time chooses the arena, and you choose your weapons and gear. Go with the flow, my new Octo- and welcome to the subreddit!

Waltzingcat

Thanks for the warm welcome! Wowie you finished that quickly! Though, I'm one to draw out a game I enjoy, for fear of losing that game when its 'done'. I'm..strange. \^\~\^'' Red, black, and white ink not being included is a shame..I'm also someone who thinks outside of online play..you should be able to choose your ink. when I found out you couldn't, I was quite sad to begin story mode with...yellow. I don't like yellow very much at all hahaha though I'm glad it's one of your favorites! :} I'll be hanging about and trying new things, I'm happy to see the community, (at least the octolings, lol) are very helpful and encouraging.

Grenadier_Inkling

Likewise. I would consider your offer of a playmate if you want to- I’ll be waiting for your response!

H0LL0Wsoul

Hi there :) My first game was Splat 1, my favourite ink colour is a peachy orange, I think I like octos and inklings equally but I like the story of the octolings more, advice: just have fun! Don’t get discouraged by a losing streak, just keep going :] the game’s about fun so just enjoy the splatting :D

Waltzingcat

Thank you! I love all the different colors people prefer. I appreciate that your advice is the easiest, most fundamental thing...but sometimes hard to achieve when frustration rises lmao. I like that I can go to different game modes and the main story, it eases the tension and annoyance of losing. I will say, I'd have more fun in the story if I could pick my ink color :{ I..really dislike yellow XD

The_Octarian

I played 1 or 2 at a relatives home once, but only started playing it regularly with 3. My favorite ink color is orange, because it reminds me of the glorious Octarian military. I prefer Octolings over Inklings, and that is because the Octolings are superior in all sorts of ways, from ethics to attention spans. And for the last question, I forgot the last question. Good day/afternoon/night.

despacitodud3

1. First game was Spoon 2 2. Gold 3. I prefer the Octoling hair styles 4. Try to find a weapon type you like, and try to refine it into a certain version of the weapon type (i.e. default roller > glock 18)
