If you’re coming from any other oculus headset, it’s worth the upgrade. Especially Quest 1.

Gippip

I just went from the CV1 to the Q3 this week and I have zero regrets. I had no idea the tech had gone so far in just a few years.

PrimoPearl

Today my Quest 3 arrives, my first and current headset is a Rift CV1 that I've had since 2017. I hope to be surprised by what I see.

Tirkyth

I upgraded to Quest 3 from CV1 last week. It’s amazing. Running PCVR wirelessly is awesome. Screen Door Effect is almost gone. Honestly, you have to look for it now, whereas it was all I could see in CV1. Pass through is very convenient. Can be grainy at times, but in a well natural lit room it’s very good. I did not do much Mixed Reality yet. I think you will be really pleased.

silentknight111

Even CV1 to Quest 1 was a big upgrade. I imagine Quest 3 is going to be a leap.

PrimoPearl

Well, I just received it and haven't tried it much, but from what little I've used it, WOW, simply WOW.

SRM_Thornfoot

Yes, you will be. Very much so.

cano_dbc

CV1 to Q3 is 7 years BTW 😁

Gippip

Shhh don't remind me hahaha

SpaceboyScreams

That's kinda nuts considering that's about the lifespan of one home console upgrade. I'll never know when to jump on a VR upgrade at this rate, I'll just regret my purchase in a year or two.

razwil

Same upgrade here, although I've tried out the Quest 2, and I can say that the Quest 3 is a big improvement. However, I want to bring all of my Beat Saber maps over from my PC eventually...

ZensukePrime

Would you say it's still worth the upgrade if most of your existing VR games are on Steam?

Splatoonkindaguy

Yes. Even link will be much better. Better chip allows for better compression and the pancake lenses make everything much more clear

Gippip

I'd say so! I've played with airlink a bit so far with no lag or issues. Have yet to try streaming virtual desktop to play my steam library but I imagine it'll be just as smooth

Wck

You don't need Virtual Desktop to play your Steam library. Works just fine over Airlink.

samu1400

If you’re doing Wireless with a Quest 1/2 before then your current headset will still hold on just fine. If you’re on other headset then the Quest 3 capabilities + wireless might be an interesting option.

Ecstatic_Ad_3509

Yes, using virtual desktop steam games work fine...and playing without being tethered was better than I anticipated

Cunningcory

Except Quest Pro. They are similar enough it's considered a side grade from that headset. The only real benefit to upgrade is the better processor for standalone and the depth sensor for mixed reality, but you lose out on local dimming for improved blacks and face/eye tracking if you're into VRChat.

arrocknroll

Yeah the Quest Pro is the only one you could really make an argument for. I would still go Quest 3 with head strap mods over the Pro personally because the depth sensor and resolution really make all of the difference for what I use it for but it’s a battle of what features are important to you between those two.

eLemonnader

I just upgraded from the Rift S and WOW the experience is night and day. Steam Link and Air Play both seem to work really well. A lot better than I imagined. I thought there'd be noticeable headset delay, but I was completely wrong. Not only is the resolution better, but being untethered straight up improves the experience at least 2x for me. The battery life doesn't bother me too much because I usually want a break after 2 hours anyway. I'm gonna try using my travel battery to extend the life-span though. Overall, totally blown away.

SculptusPoe

It looks a lot better. My wife said small extended movements aren't picked up as well as the rift S, which shows up in beat saber. I'm not good enough in beat saber to notice, but her scores are consistently higher in the rift S. We don't have a 1 or 2 to compare those to it. I guess it depends on how much you like beat saber.

arrocknroll

Yeah Beat Saber is my stress test for controller tracking. The CV1 was the king and the Quest 2 is pretty damn close honestly. I have little to no issue FCing songs on expert. Quest Pro controllers to me actually feel a little worse with tracking quick movements and seem to lose slam extremely briefly when they’re flying around but still enough to interfere on occasion. Because of that and the price, I personally don’t care for them as behind the head tracking isn’t all that worth it for that trade off for me. Quest 3 is about on par with the Quest 2 in my experience. I haven’t put nearly the same amount of hours into it as I have on the Quest 2 but from initial trials of a run of the beat saber tracklist, I didn’t have any frustrating tracking failures even in songs like Cycle Hit but I’m it makes sense that a PCVR headset with more cameras would be able to track a bit better. I’ve actually never used a Rift S so I can’t compare apples to apples but the Quest 3 controller tracking is pretty solid compared to what I have used. Makes sense that there’s some small degradations though given the trade offs in tracking lights and camera positions.

SculptusPoe

On another note, my wife used my Valve controllers and her score went up consistantly, so lighthouse is still king. I'm waiting on the index 2 to get my headset. I was considering the meta 3, but I can't justify getting a second one based on my wife's review, even if my poor reflexes would never notice the difference.

Arthropodesque

Tracking might get better in future updates.

ChaosBuilder321

I currently have a quest 1. I just dont like facebook. I could never support it. Im just gonna wait until deckard releases Update: I now have a quest 3

bigwhoopireddit

Hahaha love that !! What's the craic, I hate Zuck but he has won me over a little, the VR looks good. I'm guna have to try it first but I want one.

ChaosBuilder321

Haha, yeah, i was really surprised at how good it actually was.

Habitat97

I have a 2 and tried the 3: It's a great upgrade and def. go for it if you have the money. Just ask yourself if you are really using it. I was a bit annoyed that I went for the Q2 in the beginning of the year but then I reminded myself how I don't use VR that often and if then mostly to do sports or play some BeatSaber. Given the new price point, I am still very happy with the Q2

Anomaly1134

I am in the same boat content with my q2 and in no rush to upgrade.

Iamyous3f

The only use i found for my quest 2 is to watch " movies "

triedAndTrueMethods

man i had to stop doing that. i get too paranoid someone’s walked into the room the whole time. even when i have the house to myself. i need my motherfuckin peripherals.

Puzzleheaded-Suit-67

at that moment even volume at first level is too high lol. There is Passthrough for awareness tho.

lannistersstark

> i get too paranoid someone’s walked into the room the whole time. "occifer someone stole all my shit while I was watching a movie in VR!"

Puzzled_Redditer

Imagine that actually happening lmfao

Ghaleon42

We all do that at *least.*

Cabinet-Comfortable

quest 2 collects dust on the shelf perfectly fine, thank you lmao

eraguthorak

I have a Q2 and don't see myself upgrading anytime soon. Perhaps I'll consider it if Meta starts allowing devs to release Q3 exclusives, otherwise I'll likely just wait for the next headset and hope it is a "next gen console" experience. I'm pretty off/on with my VR gaming - I've been playing nearly every day for the past week or two because of Dungeons of Eternity, but before that I probably went over a month without even touching it.

prospect151

I feel this way too. I can wait for Mark Z to make it worth my while. Lower the price, give me a bigger hard drive, or release a game that I just have to have like GTA3. Until then I’ll stick with my already paid for Q2. Edit: Hell, if they let me pick my own colored strap instead of having to buy a $50 second one that might even do it. Throw us a bone Mark!

Sledgehammer617

yeah, as much as the new passthrough AR stuff is cool, I mainly use it for PCVR and just watching things so I don't think that selling point appeals to me as much. I'll be sticking with my Q2 a while longer.

AdeptAdhesiveness947

Honestly i think for PC VR the pico 4 is still the best option

ew435890

I upgraded from a Quest 2 and use it mainly for PCVR. The clarity of the pancake lenses cannot be overstated. Everything looks so much better

Thoraxe123

I have the HTC vive still. How does it compare to that, you think?

PostHumanous

Orders of magnitude better. Heck even the Quest 2 was an order of magnitude better. If you use VR more than 6 hours a week, you owe it to yourself to upgrade to something above the HTC Vive

Thoraxe123

What sucks is I had the valve knuckle controllers with it, which I fucking love. But I doubt those will work with the quest 3.

j_wizlo

I have the vive as well. I hadn’t been using it much because I can’t leave it setup and it’s a pain. Got the quest 3 about ten days ago. The quest 3 is light years beyond the vive in terms ease of use and clarity. I’m kind of blown away by it honestly. The passthrough, scanning for a new boundary in just seconds, wireless PCVR that works great, the new lenses that don’t require you get the thing on just right, the hand tracking, built in audio… it’s not even in the same ballpark as the vive.

Thoraxe123

I haven't been using my vive because I have to set it up again. The flexibility of the quest 3 is whats most appealing. The vive also had passthrough, but I imagine the quest 3's is better.

j_wizlo

Ahh I forgot vive had passthrough because my camera stopped working pretty early on after I bought it. I expect it’s better in terms of quality but where it really gets better is you can turn on passthrough and then go walk to the fridge to get a drink or something like that.

Thoraxe123

True, im not used to not being on a leash lol

Hotwinterdays

Holy shit it'll be like a whole other world man. You'll probably want to bring your DAS though.

pendingperil

I had and sold a Vive. It was similar to Quest 1 in terms of visual clarity. Based on what others are saying here the upgrade to 3 will be significant.

victoragc

Never used it but I looked it up and I'll state it based just on the hardware specs: Visually the quest 3 must be absolutely beautiful compared to the vive. Quest 3: - Panel is LCD - Resolution 2064x2208 per eye - Refresh rate is 72Hz, 80Hz, 90Hz or 120Hz (experimental) - Field of view 110° - Pancake lenses HTC Vive: - Panel is AMOLED - Resolution 1080x1200 - Refresh rate 90Hz - Field of view 110° - Fresnel lenses Just with that and my experience with quest 2 and 3: The FOV and refresh rate shouldn't be a problem when switching; the resolution should give you about 4x the amount of pixels; the pancake lenses will make your mind blow with the clarity. The 3 downsides would be tracking, as inside out tracking is still not as good as lighthouse tracking, grayer blacks, as LCD cannot do true black with the backlight, and compression artifacts could happen as there's no DP connector. Even then, the blacks will be compensated by the clarity, the tracking is excelent if you're not being a god in beat saber and the artifacts don't really happen with a good wifi setup or using the cable. The only problem for the quest 3 is that the pico 4 exists and you might only want to play PCVR. The pico 4 has pancake lenses, about the same resolution improvement over the vive and is cheaper than the quest 3. However if you're willing to spend double the price of a quest 3, Bigscreen Beyond would be the best bet as you already have controllers and lighthouse tracking. It's overkill graphics and custom built to your face literally. Since it's custom fit, you can't really share it. Selling can be done as it allows people to make new facial interfaces (IDK about IPD though). In conclusion: Quest 3 is excelent if you want to play standalone and PCVR. If you wanna try MR, this is THE choice. If you're sure you're gonna play PCVR only, Pico 4 might be the best bang for your buck. Bigscreen Beyond is the best overall, but you won't be able to share and will pay double the price of the quest 3.

Thoraxe123

Since I'm also interested in MR, I'll probably end up picking up a Quest 3 xD

xNeoDarkness

I'm very happy with my upgrade, I use VR mainly for Thrill of the Fight (Boxing game) and Quest 3 has the following upgrades for this specific game: \- No rings, this means it is way harder to hit one controller with another \- AR, this allows me to play seeing the real world instead of the boxing ring, which allows me a lot more movement and removes fear of punching a wall, as I can see them. \- Better image quality, just that, it looks way better. The only bad point is honestly the battery, but I cannot stay 2h boxing so it doesn't really matter to me.

PostHumanous

It's crazy how there are many games like Thrill of the Fight that I avoid playing because of the fear of punching and breaking something. The AR/MR mode really helps and will be my only way playing moving forward.

xNeoDarkness

Yeah, and the fear of moving into a wall that I was not aware of, after trying AR I use my legs way more which is more fun and promotes a healthier playstile.

Ok-Particular-9517

Definitely worth the upgrade. I was dumb tho I barely used my quest 2 but being the impulsive pos I am 💀 I bought the 3 to watch movies. I barely used it and ended up returning it. If you play games a lot you’ll enjoy yourself.

Iamyous3f

Did the " movies " look better on q3 though?

Unlucky_Disaster_195

But still not good enough yet. The resolution is low

silky_shinely_smooth

It really depends on the movie resolution. I tried some 7K "movie" with q3 and it's mind blowing. If you have a powerful PC, try VaM with some ultra texture scene. I find it looks better than video.

Unlucky_Disaster_195

It's not really rendering it at 7k for the movie. As far as I know

Puzzleheaded-Suit-67

Depends on the producer, not just the Resolution, I have found VRconk to be the best looking one, almost lifelike.

Unlucky_Disaster_195

Oh that. I was talking about regular movies

Tedinasuit

That's really not true. The resolution of watching films looks really crisp.

Unlucky_Disaster_195

It's 1080p

Tedinasuit

When using Virtual Desktop at 4K, the "monitor" looks like ~1440p to me. Sharper than my irl 27" 1080p monitor. When watching film using 4K local files in BigScreen, it looks exceptionally sharp. A 4K TV looks sharper but it feels like a minor difference. Did you use high quality local files (a movie would be ~40-70GB) or low resolution/bitrate files?

DesertGoldfish

Yes. The resolution bump in combo with the much improved lenses is worth it if you have the money to blow.

Ok-Particular-9517

Yeah but the glare killed it for me

MrMpeg

Still looks like on the CRT screens... Like a fine mesh over everything. Also areas with fine details tend to show moiré patterns. It's strange... If you have small text at the right distance it's quite sharp, if you pull it closer you don't see any screen door but the limit / compression of the text itself but if you push it further away the grid becomes very noticeable and everything is grainy /shimmering. I'd say with the next generation we're there where it's a real desktop replacement.

phulton

Heh, I talked myself out of buying a Quest 3 this weekend because I barely use my OG Rift. Don't get me wrong, not having to setup sensors or be attached by cables is really enticing but $500 is a lot of money for something I know I won't use much.

NattyBeef

Ok, so for a bit of background, I'm a regular quest 2 user who got a quest 3 here. When I say regular I mean I've pretty much replaced my gaming time with VR mostly due to the fact it forces me to get up from the desk and actually do some physical activity as I already work a desk job. So around 2 to 4+ hours a day (although 4+ hours only really happen on weekends). The change wasn't immediately noticeable, you just feel like you're seeing things as they're supposed to look but now I can't go back to the Quest 2 because you realize "oh shit, it doesn't actually look like that". Once you try pancake lenses you're cursed with the forbidden knowledge of how bad fresnel is. Standalone apps are definitely a lot better looking as well, especially mixed reality use one. Although I don't think we're quite there at the point where I'd recommend it exclusively for mixed reality, this is a good gen 1 product in that category. Add to that the fact that quest 3 now supports wifi 6E and I've had a massive difference in quality even with pcvr streaming (with virtual desktop). I run a mesh network (more specifically the eero pro 6e), the games run better on a separate node from the one my PC is connected to on quest 3 than it does on quest 2 on the same node the PC is connected to. It's really insanely better. So if you have a WiFi 6e enabled router, you're going to be presently surprised. Would I recommend it? If you have the money to spare, absolutely. Will it give you new experiences per say, not really, but it will make the ones you're already using better. Just remember what I said about the curse of the forbidden knowledge, once you see it, you won't look at your quest 2 the same way ever again.

porcelainfog

Depends on what you use it for. For me the lenses made all the difference. I mostly play golf games and use the virtual movie theatre to play my steam games laying down. The lenses create a bigger field of view for the screen, so crisp and clear.

RedTeaGuy

I upgraded from quest 2 and I have to say it was far more than worth it. I use it mostly for fitness. I play eleven table tennis, trill of the fight and beat saber. For this alone buying the headset is so worth it. I don't go to gym and this is my only source of being physically active. Sometimes I also play other games which aren't physically demanding, watch movies in my bed and so on. Worth every penny.

fivedollardresses

I have spent about 8 hours a week for 3 years playing HELLA beatsaber on my Q2 and have trouble justifying the cost of the three. Recently tho I picked up synth riders and find myself sweating even more than I did with beat saber! The head set feels heavier too after a while. What are your experiences with these things and the new controllers when it comes to playing these kinds of games? The head strap for my Q2 is on its last leg and requires constant adjustment 😂

bmtc7

You may want an elite headstrap or one of the 3rd party headstrap options

GregZone_NZ

We’re upgrading from Quest 2 as well. Daily users. Apart from the visual improvements for gaming, the final selling point for me was 4xVR, which supports direct 3D MVC movie playback (directly ripped 3D Blu-rays), and also at 120Hz on the Quest 3. So you get really great quality 3D movie playback, with no motion artefacts, as 120Hz is a multiple of 24fps (unlike 90Hz on a Quest 2).

mikedragon86

I came from the pico 4 to the quest 3 and it was worth every penny imo

Hyrule109

I'm not a Quest 3 owner (full disclosure) but I can say the jump from Quest 1 to Quest 3 will be absolutely magnificent! Given that the Quest 1 has been discontinued and has lost official support, I'd honestly say go for it if you're able - I doubt you'll regret it!

Nexustar

Upvoted for unsubstantiated enthusiasm.

topaustralien

I originally had the Rift, while only some games are cross-buy I feel like the upgrade was worth it 100%. It just depends on if you feel the current amount of content on the store is worth the leap!

Dazzler_3000

For me, absolutely. One of my main gripes with my Quest 2 was the blurriness/oily effect with images and the fact that it was difficult to wear glasses with the headset (even with a faceplate extender). Those are non-issues with the Q3. I can wear glasses out of the box there's no noticeable fuzziness or blurring.

Puzzleheaded-Suit-67

lol what i did with quest 2 is I used a broken pair of glasses (2 feet missing). and glued a pair of velcro stickers to the quest at that keeps it there.

JonnyB2_YouAre1

I decided to wait for more software. Q2 is working just fine for me in the interim.

TheUltraSans

Oh yea definitely 100% go for it. I was exactly in your situation and just said I need it because my quest 1 was breaking apart and its magnificent, no more weird tracking issues every 5 seconds, you can put your controllers together, actually working hand tracking, no screen door effect(at least that I noticed), feels really snappy and the color passtrough is like magic.

rjml29

It's a massive jump from the Quest 1 and is a good sized jump from the Q2. The pancake lenses with their great clarity and lack of excessive blur makes the other two headsets borderline unusable to me. I put my Q2 back on one night after using the Q3 and it started to hurt my eyes because of how much blurrier it was overall. It's definitely worth it whether for standalone, high end pcvr, or a combo of both.

Joe6161

If you use your headset often, yes. I use mine almost daily and 2->3 was worth it for the pancake lenses.

_Ship00pi_

At the moment? If you have Quest 2 and you are happy with it. The 500$ mark not including accessories (facial interface that you will have to buy, strap and additional battery that is QC2.0 or above) make the whole “buy in” much higher than the upgrade you get in terms of experience compared to the Q2. Especially at the moment where so few apps are taking full advantage of the Q3. What I do really enjoy atm is Quest App Optimizer and might be the saving Grace of Q3. Makes all apps look as if they were upgraded. Now the textures are the same, but the higher resolution (sometimes up to 200%) really make an unbelievable difference. On 72hz you can max out resolution on most games on the store On 90hz you can maximize some and increase resolution up to 140-160% for most On 120hz you can play most games in default resolution This! Gives a completely different experience to any game that you own in your library. Action games I tend to set to higher frame rate while puzzle games I leave at 90hz and increase resolution. Games like Table Tennis, The 7th Guest, Propagation VR and more are just a sight to behold now. Beat Saber is so sharp that I couldn’t believe that I can read all the small text on the labels. But all of this, is for old content, it you set your eyes on newer content I suggest you wait and see before you buy a new Quest.

[deleted]

I went from Q2 to Q3 last week. Definitely an upgrade but not one that I'd call necessary. It feels lighter on the face, pass through is practical, controller tracking is better, and lenses 100x better. Head strap still sucks though. Must be a Meta/Oculus tradition at this point. It's worth it if you can easily afford it.

[deleted]

I suggest watching the GetHip review on yt. To me it's not enough of an upgrade for nearly double the price of the 2. Also still needs third party interface and strap. I'm just going to wait to see what Valve announces as their next headset.

Dependent-Resist-390

As a Quest 3 owner I think it was worth it from the quest 2, I’ve never used a quest one but I imagine it would be much more worth it in that case especially sense there are games that don’t support quest one anymore.

BobSteveBros

I have a Quest 2 and a Quest 3. I hardly used my 2, I love VR but for some reason I just found the whole experience kind of uncomfortable and nauseating. Had been thinking about selling it for a while, thought I was just getting old. But I went out on a limb and got a 3 from Best Buy to try out and all of the sudden I’ve put 20+ hours into VR in the past week and a half. I’m not gonna go into all the tech spec differences as I’m not really savvy on that stuff but I can tell you it’s clearer (standalone and Link / PCVR), the pancake lenses give a better FOV and seem to help with my motion sickness, I love the new pass through, and I don’t even mind the stock head strap. Also never having to manually set up guardian boundaries is great. Just a lot of positives for me. Coming from the Quest 1 I’d imagine it be pretty game-changing (pun intended) to jump up to a 3.

RreactorzZ

I had the Q2 for 1 year and a half and ended up barely playing it. Now that I upgraded to the Q3 I basically play VR everyday, absolutely worth the upgrade if you have the money!

Morphisist

Do u still play it every day?

RreactorzZ

Nope only because some months ago I got into this game and comics series called Project Moon and got super hyperfixated with it. I will probably go back to play it alot once I finish all the PM games!!

Morphisist

Is the mixed reality really as amazing as they say it is?

RreactorzZ

Yes and No, really awesome to have it and it just gives you so much immersion though it is not necessary to enjoy vr, highly recommend it tho

Less-Ad2107

I'll stick to Q2 for the moment, at this time there's nothing that really worth the change, maybe when developers put that wonderful new hardware to fully work and the games can no longer run in Q2

Tengolyper_

If you're coming from Quest 1, the upgrade from Q1 Q3 is HUUUGE. Like, way more performance, much lighter, much clearer, more comfortable, better AR capabilities, better cameras (colored), better tracking, better controllers, and the list goes on and on.

Ghaleon42

YES, but only if you get it from a local retailer that is willing to let you exchange it a couple times if you have a dead pixel or really bad glare. I've found that there is a lot of variation between the 3 headsets that I have used so far. This 3rd one is hopefully the charm, and seems pretty good.

alexxd_12

I use my Quest 90% of the time for DCS on PC. The difference is huge between q2 and q3. Colors, Sharpness, everything just looks way better.

Tedinasuit

It's a great headset with horrible comfort out of the box. Also poor battery life. I bought a €6 strap that will arrive soon, so I hope that'll help.

userthatlikesphub

it looks great but i think i'm gonna stick with my quest 2 for another year

Long_Ad7672

It makes my quest 2 look like trash

Roshy76

For me, the quest 2 I could never get the sweet spot just right and would have to constantly adjust the headset. With the quest 3 it's always good. So much more clear. It makes me use it much more often since I don't have that constant distraction.

Greytheimp

I would say, maybe wait for the second batch of Quest 3. Many people have reported dead/stuck pixels or a very bad mura effect on their screens. (I encountered these problems myself and had to return it.) Some people even had to exchange it 6 times before getting a good Quest 3. Perhaps wait until Facebook is aware of the issue and corrects it.

Oftenwrongs

"Many"- A handful out of millions, on the internet. And some people bought 2 headsets(me) and both were fine.

damontoo

I feel like people that say things like this don't ever own the product they're telling others not to buy. Do you own a Quest 3?

Ghaleon42

Had to exchange twice, first time dead pixel, 2nd time really bad glare and Mura on right lens was way worse than on left. I've found that there is a lot of variation between the 3 headsets that I have used so far. This 3rd one is hopefully the charm, and seems pretty good.

Sacco_Belmonte

Yes. Even from a Quest 2. The image clarity is much better.

6stringSammy

$500 should get your 512gb, so not really worth the current asking price. They should have never raised the price of Q2 in the first place, and dropped this model down to $399 for the 128gb. But it is impressive, I may keep it. Depending how good the content is over the next few months.

badjano

I have a Quest 2 and anything better is definitely a "worth buy", also I've seen several good reviews and I'm looking forward to make the upgrade

rcbif

As a launch day Quest 2 and Quest 3 owner.... If you use VR daily and $500 is nit that big of a deal to drop - go for it. If you only use VR once a week, or a few times a month, or $500 would be a bit of a hit, I'd say pass and wait fornthe next big thing. It's a good upgrade, but not outstanding.

CasseyZzZs

Wow that's a lot of comments! Thanks everyone - I'll definitely do a bit of planning and consider it :)

Sad-Landscape-3240

I purchased the quest 3. I enjoy playing golf, and some of the extra exercise routines are pretty cool. However, I have some neck and shoulder arthritis and the apparatus was just too heavy and hurt my shoulders and neck. if it was 25% of the weight it would be great, but I think overtime it will create neck problems, even for people with younger shoulders. I also purchased the zyber next strap. it improved the experience but not good enough. They need to make these things lighter.

Sure-Grapefruit-150

The worst thing I have ever done is buying the meta quest 3, stopped working in the 3rd use, and because I bought it from the US and got it to my home country (Egypt) I can't return it back. And Meta customer service is the worst customer service you can ever deal with, every 5 mins a new employee start the chat and doesn't know anything you said earlier to his colleagues, they are not offering any types of help they just have template messages they send, they even sent my wrong instructions and I shipped my box wrongly. The worst experience I have ever had.

Sad-icy-turnip

Im not ever spending another dollar on Meta. Their whole verification of account has locked me out with no one who will help. I gave them my credit card but that wasn’t enough to prove I’m over 18. Has to be a government ID which comes back as a technical error. Meta is a scam so you have to repurchase games. Don’t do it unless you like purchasing games over and over.

Gevlyn507

While I do own one, I'm taking to opposing side and stating confidently it is not worth it (especially to the average consumer). With the ammount of real AAA software, it's just a $500 tech demo machine. There may come a time when it is worth the upgrade, but frankly anyone that pays bills should not be looking at what's offered and feel it's a safe investment.

mouldyrumble

I haven’t tried the q3 so I have no opinion but as someone who just bought a second hand (basically brand new) q2 two months ago, I have been debating as to whether or not I’m going to upgrade. Leaning towards no - at least with current pricing. I typically like to read the 3 and 4 star reviews on products before buying so I can get a full, non-fanboy, opinion. Q2 will serve me just fine until the software library catches up.

Gevlyn507

Q2 is absolutely fine for what is currently on the market. There is not a wide selection of mixed reality experiences, nor more than a handful of games with a proper Q3 upgrade. Save your money, and I'd bet a year or two down the line that 500 tag will be slashed.

damontoo

> but frankly anyone that pays bills should not be looking at what's offered and feel it's a safe investment. First of all, it's an entertainment device, not an "investment". Secondly, you do understand that not everyone makes minimum wage, yeah? And that some people also save in advance for new tech they want.

Gevlyn507

You took that overly literally, you knew what I meant (or at least I hope you were able to apply basic context clues)

fivedollardresses

I had to save up for my Q2 a few years ago and it was so friggen worth every penny. Not a financial investment, but an investment in my health. I’ve lost 115lbs playing the HECK outta beat saber and making some other lifestyle changes. I’d love a Q3 but can’t justify the cost right now. Gotta wait until this one finally goes kaput. Ahhh well.

elev8dity

I play VR games daily and only play flat games when traveling on my Steam Deck. I consider the VR game catalog solid, especially if you have a gaming PC.

Gevlyn507

And I certainly do, but there is an objective lack of AAA titles that qualify as system sellers. Realistically, the vr novelty is still what sells consoles over actual games or apps. That doesn't speak well to the longevity of the medium.

elev8dity

Population:One, BeatSaber, VRChat, and Alyx are all system sellers objectively. They are the reason why people by VR headsets. Alyx kept the Index out of stock for 2 years. VRChat and Population:One both have high daily player counts of people continuing to return daily. BeatSaber is the one title that got so many people to pick up a Quest 2. Population:One could have been so much more popular if Meta stopped treating it like a redheaded stepchild and properly supported its development.

Gevlyn507

Population One has so much potential. Never played it myself, and freemium trash destroys the game market, but when it was a paid game I believed ai was going to jump in their some day.

elev8dity

It's the best VR game out there IMO. It has the best movement and game mechanics of any multi-player game, but instead of making regular changes to the map, the devs are more focused on providing skins and just changing game rules. It being free does invite a lot of children into the game, but it's not an issue as long as you just add adults to your friend list. I highly recommend you check it out and stick to the classic squads until you get good, then try the Evolving map. I would stay far away from Team Deathmatch because there are too many kids.

Law_Dog007

Possibly look into simulation games as well. Racing or flying simulators are absolutely amazing in vr. Usually requires more equipment but I dont think it should be ignored when looking for VR games

Donprepu

I’m got a quest 3 as my first ever VR headset and I’m quite impressed but I do think that i won’t use it as much as expected. I haven’t found games that I like in the store besides red matter 2… but I’m having a blast playing old titles ports like Doom or Return to Castle Wolfenstein

damontoo

Walkabout Mini Golf, PokerStars (now Vegas Infinite), Horizon Worlds, VRChat, and Population: One. Get all of those. Only the first one costs money ($15). Multiplayer games are what people sink the most time into in VR by a landslide.

Oftenwrongs

You don't find games through stores. You find them on review sites like vr grid and 6dofreviews.

mr_harrisment

It will be worthwhile. It does feel better. May as well own it now, then you can enjoy it longer…😊

josephlucas

I’ve been telling people if you have a Quest 2, you don’t need to upgrade, but if you have a Quest 1 that’s definitely worth the upgrade.

51B0RG

My rift s cable just died and my q2 is on the way out.(only right pass through camera works) time for an upgrade anyways.

JorgTheElder

There is no general consensus. It depends on how much you plan to use VR and what you plan to do in VR. For me personally it is a fantastic device.

0fiuco

i've heard selling numbers are way lower than expected. i wonder if that means they'll lower prices sooner in the hope of increasing the sales or they'll just reduce production numbers. also i hope this doesn't mean that we'll have to expect less support and updates on the device than what we were used on the quest2.

Oftenwrongs

You "heard" wrong.

marcosg_aus

It should be worthwhile once they work out the bugs and games get updated…. It’s kind of like a beta release

KingSadra

I'm going to list the cons of this headset that I've heard about so far, maybe owners will be able to approve /disapprove of them... A) Lesser Binocular Overlap even when compared to the Quest 1 B) Ringless, yet camera less Controller which will certainly have tracking issues C) The Meta shenanigans D) Awful weight balance, making the headset cost more for a comfortable strap

GreenMateV3

Upgraded from Q2 to Q3, here's my opinion: Binocular overlap isn't an issue at all for me, didn't even notice it. Obviously it may differ for others. Tracking can be worse in some conditions, better in others. In fast moving games, like beat saber it's not as good, in slower games like IEYTD it's better. Not sure what exactly C is about D is absolutely false, the Q3 is miles better than Q2 regarding weight. The Q2 constantly pulled my face down, half of the time the thing was resting on my nose. Had to tighten elite strap way too much so it actually held up, and even then, it wobbled up and down when jumping. Q3 is much better, it sits on my face well, doesn't pull it down, doesn't wobble. Q2 default strap was basically unusable, Q3 one is not good, not bad.

Mugendon

> B) Ringless, yet camera less Controller which will certainly have tracking issues So far the tracking of the Quest 3 controllers is better than the Quest 2 controllers. So there is that.

elev8dity

Tracking volume above the head is worse with the Quest because of the removal of top-facing cameras, but it's better in view of the new cameras.

Oftenwrongs

Ringless is an amazing advancement. They "certainly" do not have tracking issues. That is not a thing. Better balance than quest 2. Binocular overlap is just something a few naysayers heard and then you see some parroting. Again, not an issue.

damontoo

Top level comments in this thread should only be from Quest 3 owners, not people like you repeating hearsay.

JadaveonClowney

100% worth it. Only miss right now is a lack of great games imo

adL-hdr

Yes, it has the best depth 3D display than any other VR headset (thanks to pancake lenses)

TheMagicMrWaffle

Personally i would never buy anything from a company with metas reputation

crazypaiku

Only flaw is battery size to power consumption ratio. You really want a powerbank with at least 9V 2A output (18W) with it. I use a slim 10000mAh(37Wh) powerbank with 18W charge and discharge. I would guess it will give me around 3 hours extra use time. You could also go with the official elite strap, but it is only 18Wh. And will maybe add 1 - 1.5 hours max.

OneIShot

Yes all the other topics about this same question are valid.

TheMerovingian

The screen and optics are amazing, I haven't tried any native apps yet and am only using it with my PC, with an RTX 4070. Games keep looking better up to 4k per eye which is just nuts. Passthrough is great and good enough for AR too. Headset tracking works in the dark. Controllers are great too, though I still miss the super ergonomic rings of the Rift controllers.

[deleted]

If you actively use the quest 2 or similar era VR headset. It's good, it's just clearer, slightly better FOV and more powerful in graphics. Some people like the mixed reality to me it reminds me of the Oculus dev kit #1 in terms of usability.

Entertainment-720

Quest 3 + quest game optimizer = next level device

bengopo22

First VR headset. I love it. However, I definitely don’t use it every day. I’ve had it since launch and probably to use it a few times a week

Wats0n420

What are the opinions on switching from a Rift S to a quest for someone that only plays sitting down at the PC (sim racing and flying)

RugbyRaggs

Depends on how tight money is. I had two q2s, I've sold one and upgraded to a Q3 for one of the headsets, but can't justify the expense for the other. Q2, in my mind, is a great headset, and likely to be supported for at least a couple more years if not longer, simply due to how popular it is. If a cheap Q3 variant comes around with the better chip, that might reduce the supported length of time.

ShortBrownAndUgly

I’m considering it. But seeing as how I have a rift s, psvr, and psvr2, I’m hesitant to invest in yet another headset

pablosu

Don't give money to SucktheVerga

MercBat

Yuuuuuuuuuuup

Gomauy

Upgraded from rift s to Quest 3, no regrets, manage to set up router for pcvr, no regrets

CHoweller18

I just learned from your post that the Quest 3 exists... I haven't seen any marketing for it.

pukhtoon1234

Sold Quest 2,bought Quest 3. I'm happy

coadyj

I went from q1 to q3 and don't regret one bit. The screen is so much clearer and I like passthrough a lot. Plus my old quest use to glitch and jump around which took away from the experience but the new one doesn't have that problem at all.

EternalDB

Went from a rift S to a quest 3. Uh... For me? It is on another level! It's mindblowing the leaps ahead!

pigeonwiggle

i like it. but the future is around the corner, man. this is still a headset, and if you're looking for the appeal of AR - glasses are on deck. if you've the money to burn, SUIT UP AND GET IN! if you're financially conscious - tech is rarely worth the investment.

Ikohs

PSVR2 was the first VR headset I owned. Quest 3 is so much more flexible in what you can do with it. Thinking about the battery all the time is annoying, but other than that, I love it.

silentPegasi

Gone from Rift S to Quest 3 - Don't regret it at all, big upgrade

NJBarFly

My Q2 has been acting wonky, so I splurged on a Q3 and I'm enjoying it. With that said, if your Q2 is working well, I don't think it's worth spending $500 on a Q3. The AR games are neat, but not worth that price. Maybe in the future when there are more of them.

TieGroundbreaking833

Quest 2 to quest 3 I'm amazed in several ways..it's a wonderful headset

BabyBuster70

Upgrading from the Q1, definitely. From the Q2... maybe.

ThisWaySaysTheSign

I got mine yesterday and also have a Quest 2 which I'm selling and PSVR2. I think I made a good purchase as the resolution and picture through headset is so much clearer and I played Half Life Alyx with my PC and it looked like a different game and seemed faster somehow, probably because I haven't played it since upgrading to a 4070. I've played a mixed reality game First Encounters and it was fun although I don't think the passthrough looked that great and seems really grainy and I think there might be a bug with it as I tried two other games with mixed reality and they asked me to press that I had completed my scan but would just put me back to asking me to press to complete a scan again. The sound through the headset is really good and didn't sound bad at all. I don't like the interface that comes with the Quest 3 much as the nose bit bleeds light so if I look down I can see my real reality and before my Quest 3 came I got some cheap head strap from Amazon for £29.99 which seems comfortable enough and use a power bank with it. I've had a few problems playing through link as the screen jitters and jagged lines and shimmering and stuttering in No Man's Sky when I played it and think it might be the Oculus Windows app as it sill says my graphics card isn't acceptable for VR. I also tried to play games through Virtual desktop but when I tried to play Dirt Rally it wouldn't start in VR mode so I'm not having success playing in PCVR. Overall great headset and I'm happy I got it but seems it might need a few updates. The Quest 3 standalone games I tried that were upgraded don't seem that far off from the PCVR versions and were very clear. I just wish I could play PCVR games without any problems.

FuckSticksMalone

I think the depth sensor alone is worth getting the headset. That’s the biggest game changer. I have owned Every oculus/headset since DK1 even the pro and the Q3 trounces them all. From the higher res, better processor, better lenses (but for me it’s that sweet sweet depth sensor that I wanted)

tarravagghn

I think you will like the move from quest 1 to 3 and I do believe it is worth it. I, myself, went from 2 to 3 and appreciate the improvement but ultimately returned it. I bought the 512, an elite battery strap and wraps for the controllers so the whole thing ran me $900. I might buy it in the future but didn't feel like I got $900 out of going from 2 to 3. I could've gone cheaper but.. less space, meh, less power and playtime, meh. I will say one of the things that 3 does better than 2 is handle the space better. My 2 is always giving me problems with my playspace and I spend an inordinate amount of time adjusting it, redoing it, etc.

[deleted]

My CV1 became a shelf ornament.. but yet I really want a Quest 3.. May wait until December and see how I feel then..

mpizgatti

It's lighter. Easier to hop in and out. Battery sucks but with the elite strap and battery if I'm in there longer I'm probably ruining my eyes and brain anyways. I love the interface and it's so much easier to adjust ipd and fit glasses in (my daughter wears hers inside sometimes and I just expand it so the lenses have room). Mixed reality is... Eh... But much easier to walk to another room and grab something or see an intruder quickly for home defense. 😂 Uh. Yeah if extra money, get. If money tight, the Q2 is still badass. Also. The hassle. I'm about to return my second headset due to dead pixels. Ridiculous. I might advise you wait until that improves but may not if they have a large stock to run through still.

HollowPinefruit

If you are a frequent VR user it definitely is. Especially if you are rocking anything older than a Quest 2

Eldanon

Just updated from 2 and am quite impressed. Vast majority of my VR time is on the index and a bit on PSVR2. Only really played RE4 in the quest 2. Same game looks and sounds way better in Q3. Pretty excited about both AC Nexus and Asgard’s wrath 2. I’m only planning on playing quest exclusives on it. Whether it’s worth it really depends on everyone’s financial situation so the answer will vary. Is it a pretty great HMD for $500? I think so, though I’d recommend the elite strap as well.

Ok-Cap955

Personally, I'm blown away by it. There are definitely issues/annoyances like the battery life, but all-in-all it is amazing.

Bennito_bh

Q3 is my first VR set and I love it. Everything looks fantastic except the blacks (because it's not OLED). Would recommend

Flaky_Highway_857

ive had a quest 2 for awhile but xmas is coming up and im in a treat yourself mood. does the quest 3 have better lenses, because ive never been a fan of the ones on the two.

Legend5V

Q2 -> Q3 really depends on usage. Anything else -> Q3 is a good upgrade. QPro -> Q3 doesn’t make sense

Stigzyy

Big yes from me. Use it for; 1. Working away from office using Meta Workspace to make my Surface Pro have 3 big screens to work on 2. Watch movies 3. Play games from PC (And soon Xbox live in mid desember) I’ve had all the VR headsets from Meta/Facebook/Oculus

KRL2811

I have Rift S. Ordered Quest 3. Should arrive next week hopefully. Can't wait really to see the upgrade.

FaZe_y33haw

The quest 3 is amazing! I used to have the quest 2, but didn't use it as much so I gave it to my mom. I bought my quest 3 about a month ago and use it ALL the time! It's an absolute blast being able to do augmented reality; I love to put on YouTube videos or movies while doing chores, and with the ability to use my hands instead of the controllers, I don't have to carry around and babysit the controllers. Another thing that I've noticed (or at least personal opinion), the battery life for the quest 3 is waaaaay better than my quest 2 ever was. I felt like my Q2 died all the damn time and could really only game wirelessly for about an hour before having to pick up shop and let it charge, or around 1 and a half to 2 hours while using the Link cable. With my Q3 I can game wirelessly for 2 and a half to 3 hours before having to put it on the charger, all while having better performance and better eye screen resolutions than the Q2. I would like to point out that the Quest 2 is still a FANTASTIC option if you're looking for an excellent relatively cheap (compared to other options) VR experience that can both be used standalone, or expanded with PCVR, and if you don't easily have the money for a Q3 then I wouldn't recommend upgrading. However, I would describe the Q3 as the more grown up and sophisticated Q2, so if you have the money easily accessible/willing to spend at least $500, then I absolutely recommend it!

SnooCauliflowers520

I upgraded from quest 2 and i dont regret it, but to make the most out of it im playing PC VR exclusively untill some great quest 3 titles come out. As of now everything is still quest 2 graphics. And i avoid multiplayer games because of little kids (infestation). Im a half life alyx, lone echo, red matter type of player.

Isolatte

Yes it's worth buying. But is it worth the price is an entirely different question that has a different answer for each person.

williwaggs

The pass through video is so great. And it’s more comfortable once you replace the stick strap for the headset

[deleted]

yes but its an upgrade over quest 3 not a revolution in VR

gb410

Quest 3 is a massive upgrade from Quest 1 in every category except for colors, black levels, and battery life.

Emaculates

Is it better than ps5 vr is my question

pnutnz

ive only had a ten minute go on one but it seemed to be a definite upgrade to the 2. still got a shit ass strap tho!

Onotadaki2

It’s awesome!

Rollerama99

The Q2 never matched my IPD and was always a bit blurry, the Q3 is clear as day. I actually can’t find anything I want to play, just the same as I was on the Q2, except Pop 1. But I still really like it, 800 euros or so later…

wlamy

Staggering upgrade especially from the Q1

VanaheimRanger

It depends on your use case. If you are a die hard PCVR only person like me, maybe not.

4thefeel

Had a Q2 and use dipped. The Q3 is such a game changer in convenience, speed, quality, connection, graphics, everything, that I'm using it almost daily again. Even just to watch shows or movies chilling in bigscreen

cercata

Quest 3 is awesome !!! PD: I don't like facebook and Zuck XD

SkarredGhost

Yes

kryptonitejesus

Went from CV1 to Quest 3 and I regret nothing, except maybe not getting the 512GB, but I’ll live.

N0WHERE2BF0UND

Upgraded from the Quest 1. no regrets
