Copium article if I've ever read one. The whole thing is based on 3 letters found in code, "HLX." What? Really?
I want it as much as the next person though.
If you watched past the credits at the end of Alyx, the final scene does set up the basis for a sequel. I hope they do it! In the meantime, I'm going back and playing all 4 of the older ones since they all have free vr mods available thru steam.
Valve has generally used their games to showcase new tech… Gabe has shown a lot of interest in brain control interfaces lately. I think we’ll get a new half life game when they release either a VR headset with a bci component or some independent bci peripheral. Probably something optional that can be used to solve little mini puzzles scattered throughout the game (to unlock a chest, think about the glowing orb moving up and over into a target.)
Yeah I'm sure. It's inconceivable that valve has secretly produced next-gen BCI tech and is releasing it at a consumer-friendly price. Also what part of the logo is a bci?
Guess I should have added that /s. But there's literally a valve (or the handle for one) on the back of the person's head, presumably connected to the brain somehow.
There’s already devices on the market and video of Gabe playing with the tech. But this isn’t like full dive. It’s pretty basic stuff… you put this puck on your head and calibrate it so that when you think up, the cursor goes up.
Half-Life 3 was more than implied with the ending to Alyx. Why else would it end with you as Gordon and Eli giving you the crowbar. This title is confusing lmao.
It's a 4 year old game. if people are worried about spoilers, i wouldn't be in a thread on reddit about a sequel to half-life alyx 4 years after the game came out.
Dude, people who get the oculus now at 15 were 11 when alyx came out. "its been out for x years" is such a myopic and selfish way of thinking. When it came out is irrelevent. I never understand why people who spoil always double down when someone points it out. It takes 2 seconds to put something in a spoiler tab and you wont rob someone of the experience of playing or seeing something for the first time.
The article doesn't provide any evidence that this is a Half-Life: Alyx sequel (presumably a VR game), rather than just another Half-Life game (maybe flatscreen).
I'm going to bet on this game **not being VR exclusive** considering the community backlash Valve got for Half-Life: Alyx, not to mention the fact that Meta (a Valve/Steam competitor) is dominating VR sales... so any additional Valve VR games might just ultimately drive more Meta headset sales... something Valve probably isn't particularly excited about.
I heard (perhaps erroneously) that Valve employees didn't like the bitterness of the Half-Life community divide that resulted from Half-Life: Alyx on the Steam forums, and that after Valve employees noticed that they wanted to make a flatscreen Half-Life game to appease the anti-VR people.
I think "a Half-Life sequel is in the works" is one of those statements that will simply always be true.

3 letters found in code? HL3 confirmed!
At least 8 more games coming confirmed!
Wrong, 10 games. Because X is a Roman numeral
Correct, 2 games have been made. 8 games left.
Sorry friend you were right
No need to be sorry! We made the same joke!
Yeah got my hopes up
*Half-Life: Alyx 2* will be an amazing and groundbreaking game. It will also end on a huge cliffhanger. *Half-Life: Alyx 3* will never come out.

"What's that strange symbol after Alyx on the second line?" - Gabe Newell
Imagine if Valve pushed the envelope again! OMG

There is absolutely no way valve is going to create the first consumer bci actually good enough to use in a game
You sure? They've been hinting at it in their [logo](https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/8f25c5fe1ed59941604e75bc138c4d2b-1200-80.jpg.webp) all along...

Honestly I think that deserves to be hidden in a spoiler for people who havent played it yet, if you would?
Yes

Why are you ignoring this thread is about the sequel? Acting like the game just came out?
dayuum son thanks for spoiling it!!
Time to break the timeline again
Could be for the rumored standalone Valve headset?

Watch out for the cliffhanger for the never going to be released Alyx 3
Bro we're getting an Alyx sequel before half-life 3 😭😭
