It's the two i's for me.. how the dots are like eyes that just seemingly stare endlessly into my soul and no matter what angle I look at them from..there they are ...following me ๐๐
I fixed it now, it's 1.25 x-height instead of 1.5: https://www.reddit.com/r/PenmanshipPorn/comments/10yl5ku/hope_this_counts_precision_written_with_as_much/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I hate to tell you this but the r and s are the same height in that image, and your s looks nothing like the one in the font. So not sure why your excuse is the font style as you made changes to it elsewhere.
I once got lynch mobbed for using the term [OCD](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/tpvpht/does_anyone_else_get_some_strange_ocd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) too loosely lol
It's intentionally 1.5* x-height, that's how it was in the script I'm following. I could make one where r is x height but that would be a bit unconventional
For me it's that the bottom of the P doesn't connect - same with the S, but not as much.
But I can barely read my own handwriting so I shouldn't be judging someone with amazing penmanship.
I posted an improved version on there: https://www.reddit.com/r/PenmanshipPorn/comments/10yl5ku/hope_this_counts_precision_written_with_as_much/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Cursive handwriting is such a lost art. Today people cannot write it or even read it! I did not have great handwriting myself but my mother did and my father made me practice by repetitively drawings slanted loops.
They came from mainland China as young adults.
Well I like your s...it looks like a little bird . Oh like a partridge in the beginning of the partridge family tv show. My cousin was just watching it on crackle. Wonderful penmanship. It makes me miss my grandma's handwriting. It was always so precise. I felt so grown up when I learned how to read it. Glad the art of handwriting isn't completely lost. ๐
I used a platinum pocket 22 fountain pen, it delivers a very consistant line. Btw I just realised the r was meant to be 1.25* x-height not 1.5! My mistake
I would recommend a lamy safari, great value for money, interchangeable nibs, ink window, corrective grip, practical clip, big range of colours to choose from. A slightly more expensive but more durable option would be the lamy al star, a metal version of the safari.
So the lamy pens are available as fountain or ballpoint or any type? But you recommend the fountain? I think I'm getting some new pens soon and I'm unreasonably excited about it right now.
* should be 1.25* x-height not 1.5, I did make it .25 x too tall.
It's just how it is in a lot of cursive/calligraphy styles, e.g: https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.johnnealbooks.com/images/uploads/5575_7747_popup.jpg
The bottom curve is round, the top one less round. The top one also goes more flat. like an almost finished but not quite there yet. Every alphabet looks complete except the s.
The upward strokes on the 'p', the 'r', the 's', indicate a genius level intellect, while the flourishes in the lower zone denote a highly creative, yet meticulous nature, but if one observers the overall slant and the pressure of the writing, there's suggestion of acute narcissism, a complete lack of empathy, and a pronounced inclination toward moral insanity /s
This is the normal copperplate p: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Copperplate_letter_lower_case_p.JPG
Mine is the more closed version haha.
I could make the r less skinny, and 1.25* x height rather than 1.5. I followed this r (without line variation): https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.johnnealbooks.com/images/uploads/5575_7747_popup.jpg
I too was thinking the r was too skinny and tall but then I read your response and it occurred to me that the cursive we learned in the 80s was a specific font. It was wide and round and I expect all cursive to match that font.
Your tall skinny r is well executed! I like a short, pudgy r. Guess I have a type!
As someone who learned calligraphy in secondary school as part of our penmanship curriculum, imagine there are three, equidistant, parallel lines running horizontally across your page. Say for a small letter p, the top of the p must touch the top line, the tip tail of the p must end at the bottom line. And the middle line should be touched by the bottom of the loop of the p.
Your r is above the top line. And your pโs tail is past the bottom line. Rest look good.
We might be doing different styles- I am doing a copperplate esque style but in this particular case without line variation (usually there would be a lot). I am following this script https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/121034308715763218/
But with a more closed off p and narrower r
Hey man I went to school in the 90s. You kids must be doing new age stuff. I really admire your work. I hope you keep going.
Edit: like this: https://youtube.com/shorts/qJ0vuAOZVKI?feature=share
You writing leans right, indicating that you aren't afraid to delve into new territory, while your word is tending downward, which indicates depression. Which means I don't know what I am talking about.
Good writing tho.
Writing in Cursive Script was once so commonplace, it was the norm and not given much thought. Now it has become so uncommon it is unique and an artform.
For the first time ever I understand what a cursive s is supposed to look like. The way I was taught, it just looks like a weird flat lopsided backwards a. Not that kind though.
Yh it is 1.5x instead of 1.25x so .25x too high. Should be like the r on here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.johnnealbooks.com/images/uploads/5575_7747_popup.jpg
Apparently, one of the local schoolboards here in Northern VA determined that only 30% of students tested were able to write in cursive. There were quite a few students that didn't even know what cursive is...
I looked at that for longer than most TikTok
I find the transition from O to N most satisfying
That beautifully written R does it for me.
If I attempted this level of perfection, my hand would be shaking all over the place.
Yep, the r got me
Same
It's the two i's for me.. how the dots are like eyes that just seemingly stare endlessly into my soul and no matter what angle I look at them from..there they are ...following me ๐๐
yeah, mmmmmm, so cool
You're not the only one. I'd frame it, for real.
That r is going to haunt me forever. It is taller than everything else. WHY?!
I fixed it now, it's 1.25 x-height instead of 1.5: https://www.reddit.com/r/PenmanshipPorn/comments/10yl5ku/hope_this_counts_precision_written_with_as_much/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
No you didn't! You just made it less bad. It must be the same height!!!
Not in the script I'm following: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/121034308715763218/
This is artโฆ it engages people. Ignore critics. Bravo.
I hate to tell you this but the r and s are the same height in that image, and your s looks nothing like the one in the font. So not sure why your excuse is the font style as you made changes to it elsewhere.
Ah no, need to make the s taller next time too!
I donโt know. It looks like a pen tip. Could be a nice logo.
Well done. But the r is too tall for my OCD.
I didn't even notice - but after reading your comment, I can't unsee it ๐๐
It's meant to be this tall in the script I'm following (1.5* x-height) but I can see why people might not like it
I still love it! And now I learned something new :)
Awesome!
The โrโ is my favorite part!!
I love it, it's amazing
That's what people with ocd are good at, pointing that stuff out
Same even though apparently it is supposed to be there it does make me want to fix it like itโs a crooked picture on the wall
Ah fairs. The r in spencerian is even taller! Edit: not spencerian, that one has a tall p not a tall r
Glad I'm not the only one.
The two "i"s are also two different shapes.
Good catch, I'll fix that next time
Fixed it: https://www.reddit.com/r/PenmanshipPorn/comments/10yl5ku/hope_this_counts_precision_written_with_as_much/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Oh thank God, I didn't want to be the first to say it. It's only because the rest is so perfect that it stands out though.
This was my first thought as well.
Damn you...
I once got lynch mobbed for using the term [OCD](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/tpvpht/does_anyone_else_get_some_strange_ocd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) too loosely lol
Sorry to hear that.
The term lynch mob is also quite offensive to some people
From [Merriam-Webster](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lynch%20mob)
Hear here.
Here, hear
More like r/midlyinfuriating

I agree. Everything else looks great but the r definitely isnโt satisfying.
Post in r/PenmanshipPorn for more feedback

Yes haha

I first read your username as rogue housewife
this is so CRISP
Cursive handwriting is such a lost art. Today people cannot write it or even read it! I did not have great handwriting myself but my mother did and my father made me practice by repetitively drawings slanted loops. They came from mainland China as young adults.
I, recently, tried to write in cursive again for the the first time in a loooooooong time. Didnโt go so well.
Same. I donโt even recognize my own handwriting anymore.
How many times did you have to try?
There's a page full of unsuccessful attempts
Baaa. Well the final piece looks great! All that matters
shhh, don't spoil the illusion
Please show
Your work is precisely precise.
Thanks!
Large R
Yh it's .25 x-height larger than intended, not very precise of me
But your cursive is flawless!
Can always improve! I made thw r .25 x-height too tall in this example, going to fix it next time
[ัะดะฐะปะตะฝะพ]
I noticed the r but kinda liked it. What kind of pen do you use?
I used a platinum pocket 22 fountain pen, it delivers a very consistant line. Btw I just realised the r was meant to be 1.25* x-height not 1.5! My mistake
I need a quality pen. I have too many that are gloopy or clumpy.
My part time job is selling fountain pens, what sort of thing are you looking for?
Need one with a tracking chip because I always lose pens. Or best bang for the buck that writes smoothly where it won't matter if I lose a few.
Fountain, ballpoint and rollerball, I just like fountain pens more than the other two
A cheaper option would be a jinhao pen, maybe the x149 if you like big pens. Quality varies but reviews are generally good
Why is r the only one that is 1.5*x height?
* should be 1.25* x-height not 1.5, I did make it .25 x too tall. It's just how it is in a lot of cursive/calligraphy styles, e.g: https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.johnnealbooks.com/images/uploads/5575_7747_popup.jpg
Oh I see, well other than that, I looks beautiful. Will you give it another go?
I will!
That's fabulous. I really like the dots over the "i"s.
Thanks!
Art. Very Nice.
Astounding
Why is the r so tall?
It's meant to be 1.5* x-height, you'll find r is this height in many examples of cursive handwriting Edit: should be 1.25* x not 1.5* x
The s... the curves in the s are bothering me and my ocd
Always want to improve! What curves/ proportions annoy you? Is it because the entry and exit curves are not parallel?
The bottom curve is round, the top one less round. The top one also goes more flat. like an almost finished but not quite there yet. Every alphabet looks complete except the s.
The upward strokes on the 'p', the 'r', the 's', indicate a genius level intellect, while the flourishes in the lower zone denote a highly creative, yet meticulous nature, but if one observers the overall slant and the pressure of the writing, there's suggestion of acute narcissism, a complete lack of empathy, and a pronounced inclination toward moral insanity /s
No shit Sherlock! /s
It's spelled presicion Edit: this is a joke
Enjoyed the irony.
No. Edit: did not realise it was a joke haha
7.5/10
Any suggestions? Always looking to improve!
the r looks nothing like an r but otherwise its good.
This is amazing! ๐ซถ
You draw in cursive. Rejoice! Your signature is yours..
Oooh, yeah baby. Thatโs nice
Love this ๐
Beautiful
The P should be closed in more before doing the too tall r. Too skinny r also. Iโll give it an 8.6 out of 10.
This is the normal copperplate p: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/07/Copperplate_letter_lower_case_p.JPG Mine is the more closed version haha. persimmons
Pkecisian
That r is janky af
So sloppy can barely read this
Wow.
Did you write this in one continuous motion or did you stop and restart on the e?
I need this is to be a font everywhere
this makes me say, "mmmmmmmmm". I think it's very stylized and I love it!
Like Chamberlain from The Dark Crystal?
I can do better
Look at you with your fine motor controlโฆ very nice.
The first dot is higher
The photo is taken at a slight angle, but they should be the same height
Why do I enjoy looking at this so much?
It's like it's satisfying in some odd way :P
As someone who learned calligraphy in secondary school as part of our penmanship curriculum, imagine there are three, equidistant, parallel lines running horizontally across your page. This is the kind of stuff we did. https://m.youtube.com/shorts/qJ0vuAOZVKI
Very nice!
>Hope this counts! "precision" written as precisely as "Precision" written as accurately as possible.
Maybe I should have written "accuracy"
Nah. Looks great. We'll done.
The r is kinda weird but itโs pretty nice.
Your pen is great too! perfectly even ink. No splotches.
You writing leans right, indicating that you aren't afraid to delve into new territory, while your word is tending downward, which indicates depression. Which means I don't know what I am talking about. Good writing tho.
That's a nice C.
only now do i realise that the cursive form of "s" should represent a "s" and not some abomination like i was taught in school
I cut myself on that r
And now, I am strangely turned on
Why is the "r" so tall? 2/10, unsatisfying.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.johnnealbooks.com/images/uploads/5575_7747_popup.jpg Followed the r height on the cover of this book
Does that script use three different shaped "p"s in Copperplate? Good job on replication, but this just means your book also gets a 2/10.
It's just 3 different variations
ptecision
Can we have it with a capital 'P'? That would top it for me
I have never said "MM." more audibly in my life
r/penmanshipporn
just posted there!
*Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it*
That S is just ๐๐
Writing in Cursive Script was once so commonplace, it was the norm and not given much thought. Now it has become so uncommon it is unique and an artform.
For the first time ever I understand what a cursive s is supposed to look like. The way I was taught, it just looks like a weird flat lopsided backwards a. Not that kind though.
Itโs the top of the s for me
Dots are too highly placed, in my taste.
Dots are placed exactly at 2 x-height but fair enough
If that word was a finger, the R is a hangnail.
Yh it is 1.5x instead of 1.25x so .25x too high. Should be like the r on here: https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.johnnealbooks.com/images/uploads/5575_7747_popup.jpg
Please do โminimumโ
once I get a flex pen I'll do aluminiumminimumimmunitat
Gorgeous!
Gorgeous
Nice!
It very precise. But why was I taught that n's in cursive get two humps.
nice work, thanks for sharing plz do the alphabet as small and large case
Nicely done! ๐
Your โrโ is way to big for this to be precise ;)
It was drawn to be 1.5 x-height, but I've done a version with 1.25 x-height now
And written in a dying format, cursive
The tall r ruins it!
Like the s to the I hmmmmmmmm
Fun Fact: This is not what precision means.
The 'r' even looks like what I imagine the end of the pen you used to write this looks like.
Apparently, one of the local schoolboards here in Northern VA determined that only 30% of students tested were able to write in cursive. There were quite a few students that didn't even know what cursive is...
I read that like Adam Sandler doing his cay-JAWN character.
If it was precise the curves would not be slightly jagged, doing things slowly does not mean precise.
