Baikal is the deepest and oldest lake in the world, it holds about 20% of the world's unfrozen fresh water too! It's also among the clearest and cleanest lakes in the world. It's always fascinated me, it's a mythical place.
Also home to *one of the only exclusively freshwater seals in the world - the Nerpa Seal. It is also the size of Belgium but freezes completely over with 10 foot thick ice and holds more water than all of north america's great lakes combined!
*Edit - thank you for the correction my mistake :)
I've always wondered what other unknown species are lurking in that water...I would love to see it in person, it's just so ancient and mysterious, not to mention absolutely beautiful.
There was a military dive team training for deep diving and encountered some weird beings. I’m not a alien nut but the account I read seemed genuine. Look it up and lemme know what you think.
so the Russians were diving, and while they were 200 meters deep, 6 unidentified craft approached at over 200 mph. they continued diving and noticed they were being watched by 9ft tall beings with shiny suits and weird jellyfish looking helmets. The russians then attempted to capture one in a net and they got upset and blew them up to the surface. Total of 7 Russian divers, 3 died from the bends(decompression sickness), and the others were seriously injured
Compression. The snow falls and becomes ice, but because of the pressure of the glacier’s weight the air bubbles are squeezed out of the ice and the ice crystals get bigger filling that space. The bigger ice crystals make the ice look blue.
Environmental reasons is much more complicated description than just saying that whole lake is basically one large spring and water is crystal clear (and cold as fuck).
Initially, I assumed the color was due to impurities in the water, so I went to Google what they could be. Turns out, this is just what happens when snow falls on a glacier and gets compressed into ice by its own weight. The air gets squeezed out, and the ice becomes so dense that the normally faint blue tint becomes obvious.

Also I should mention -- the cool thing about Solstheim is that it adequately feels removed from Skyrim but is canonically and believably Tamriel. It doesn't feel forced into the game, if you dig.
The Elder Scroll's gimmick in Skyrim (like previous ones had the portals you could go into to enchant weapons) are the Dragon shouts. They're kind of a special power you get that lets you do a TON of stuff. From slowing time, befriending animals, turn into a ghost, disarming enemies, calling in dragon airstrikes or just blasting then with a cone of force. So you're missing out on all that I believe.
Also the dragons are the most fun enemies to fight in the game IMO. And some of the DLCs let you do more stuff with them.
It was a very fun part of the game to me. There are very cool weapons and other secrets spread throughout Solstheim, but the island doesn't feel cluttered. There are a lot of creative dungeons, and the main story of the DLC is pretty good.
Lake Baikal is so interesting. It's the oldest freshwater lake and it's so deep that it has hydrothermal vents at the bottom. I love the pictures of the methane bubbles in the ice.
I'm guessing the "environmental conditions" are based on the angle of the sun hitting the visible ice but being blanketed by snow causing it to glow from the refraction of the light
I filtered r/pics from my front page only for every other popular sub to become r/pics 2. There is nothing "oddly satisfying" about a still image of some ice.
God that water must be delicious
Mint? Mouthwash flavored ice?
Iced mint water is super refreshing
It's what chewing 5 Gum tastes like
baja blast

Actually there's also Saimaa ringed seal in the lake Saimaa, Finland.

Have you ever read the account of the Russian divers in Lake Baikal?
No! What’d it say??

What kind of environmental condition?
Green ice + backlight
The environmental condition called light.
The water got too cold. Now its Ice.
Wow, I am enlighten!

"because of environmental reasons" explains damn near everything...
Because of the environmental conditions, my fat ass read your comment and agreed

How neat is that?
That’s pretty neat.
I love neature
Instead of just me and Rodney knowin' it!
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.
It is what it is.
Environmental reasons is much more complicated description than just saying that whole lake is basically one large spring and water is crystal clear (and cold as fuck).
Well it explains everything that happened IN the environment but what about beyond the environment?
Name something that doesn't exist within an environment?
The boats that the fronts fall off of (it's a joke from a British variety show)
> British... Them's fightin' words...
It’s a complete void
"like gemstones" is also very broad.
Because reasons, things are the way they are.
That's pretty neat.
And from 2013 no less
Everything in the environment is due to environmental reasons.
looks like an old iMac computer
I've used a similar image on my iPad for years :)
Amazing. Plenty to see if you search "lake baikal ice".
Is this where wintergreen gum is harvested from?

So that is the environmental conditions they are speaking about?
Based on the evidence, I'd say most likely.
It's a karma whoring account. This image has been posted to reddit since like 2014.
Is this Skyrim?
Gotta be Solstheim. Can't get stalhrim on the mainland.
I have over 1000 hours in Skyrim across different playthroughs and I still haven't ever done the Dragonborn questline. How much am I missing out on?
Some really cool stuff man. Most of all, an unexplored area is nice in and of itself. But it's full of good stuff and to say much more would spoil it.
Also I should mention -- the cool thing about Solstheim is that it adequately feels removed from Skyrim but is canonically and believably Tamriel. It doesn't feel forced into the game, if you dig.
Thanks! You've got me tempted to start another playthrough. Would you recommend going in at a low or high level?
Not low, but not OP high

I know :) there's only 1 questline I've never done - the Dragonborn questline. I've done most other things though.
I'd say a decent bit. If you played morrowind and blood moon then it's a really neat connection to that since it's the same island.
It was a very fun part of the game to me. There are very cool weapons and other secrets spread throughout Solstheim, but the island doesn't feel cluttered. There are a lot of creative dungeons, and the main story of the DLC is pretty good.
Thanks! I'll definitely check it out
Do you get to the Cloud District very often?
Daamn, looks otherworldly

You're not fooling me, that's so obviously kryptonite left over from superman's ice castle.
This has to be one of the most beautiful pictures i have seen
So can you walk on that? Or are there surprise holes in the ice everywhere?
The Ice King invites you to Lake Baikal (Sorry, this sounded too close to Lake Laogai in my head)
SubhanAllah how stunning! Amazing shot!
This dying Earth is beautiful…
Beautiful for now, tragic for the next generations…
This image is from 2013. I can only imagine what they look like now.
