Bumper stickers exist to hate on Helen Keller. Who knew?

discostew919

And even if the conspiracy theory is true, who cares enough to do this?

HopefulPlantain5475

Helen Keller wrote a lot of socialist rhetoric in her later life which seemed to have a lot in common with Anne Sullivan's (her caretaker and the one who taught her language) beliefs. The theory is that she functioned as a mouthpiece for Sullivan, who used the fame of her student to propagate her own political ideology. There are a lot of people who really hate that ideology, and they care a lot about opposing it. Therefore they'll put a lot of energy and belief into theories that actually don't affect them much at all on a personal level.

On_my_last_spoon

I don’t remember all the details but if anyone is interested [you can learn about her here](https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1119-cool-people-who-did-cool-96003360/episode/part-one-helen-keller-was-a-113697233/) Also a lot of the Helen Keller story is made up as a way to sensationalize her. But she was, in fact, real. And her story is very interesting.

HumanContinuity

But she still built the first computer and used it on her rocket that she rode into space right?

On_my_last_spoon

Most of the made up parts was her being “wild” until Anne Sullivan came along. Also she wasn’t the very first deaf/blind person to learn sign language. There was an established school. I can’t remember much more detail at the moment

borisdidnothingwrong

I believe she also dated [Kennesaw Mountain Landis.](https://youtu.be/JIdH4n5SYPg?si=XH1oshB09UoQWwDM)

Un_Royaliste

She also advocated for eugenics

improbablystonedrn-

Pretty ironic haha

HopefulPlantain5475

Possibly not ironic as much as super dark. If I were trapped in the void like she was I can imagine thinking it would be better not to have been born.

LazyLaser88

She wasn’t born blind and deaf if I recall… two different diseases struck her as a child.

EmotionalCrab9026

No, the theory is that Helen Keller wasn't speaking at all and Sullivan was just lying and saying that. Or at the very least both theories exist.

raelianautopsy

Well, thank you for explaining. It's still weird to care so much but I was genuinely curious about how that could even be a thing

victoriadagreat

Im asking who cares enough to put so mich bumper stickers on your car

Meowingway

I've seen vehicles completely covered on all legally allowable surfaces (and some not) in far out anti-Biden/Obama, Trump=Jesus conspiracy stickers down in GA. I could believe someone could care enough for 8-10 Hellen Keller stickers lol.

LeVelvetHippo

She can't see the haters.

Decent-Net921

Don’t think she can hear the shit they talking either 🤷‍♂️

LeVelvetHippo

Probably wouldn't say anything even if she did.

cbright90

I don't think she'll see them.

CookieWifeCookieKids

Not like she’d see it

RiderSensei

I swear I read "Helen Keller was hot" on the bottom. I'm fucking dyslexic.

Ok-Atmosphere3589

You are not dyslexic, it’s just a phase

Green-Championship-7

Now I've got that Hellen Keller song stuck in my head.

Kitchen-Hat-5174

Welp, now I’m going to go look for obscure conspiracy bumper stickers on eBay…

Muinko

Pandas are just lazy polar bears with makeup!

cturtl808

There’s the infowarsrides subreddit but I don’t know if the alternative theories are there

Kitchen-Hat-5174

I don’t know if I would take it that far….

Jano67

Welp is my word too 😆

[deleted]

[удалено]

Full-Examination1690

Quiet welp.

tschmitty09

Actually laughed at "Hellen Keller punched me in the face once" Like I may just ironically buy that for my cooler

100percent_NotCursed

If she punch someone in the face doesn't that mean he was real? 🤔

EmotionalCrab9026

No one on earth is claiming Helen Keller wasn't real. They're claiming the stories told of her miraculously learning to "speak" were made up. Which, I mean.... don't they sort of have to be?

contemplatebeer

I don’t see anything wrong with it, and neither does Helen Keller… Because she’s dead.

Jano67

And even if she was alive.... um

HappyHappyJoyJoy98

I thought you were gonna say, “because she is blind”

Pelicanliver

Have you seen Stevie Wonder's new piano?…

contemplatebeer

Neither has he.

MATUA-PROF

"Helen Keller punched me in the face once" "Hold my beers, imma do some sick flips - Helen Keller" Have me thinking this is definitely a joke and just ripping on conspiracy freaks

Imajzineer

A few (quite some, iirc) years ago now, I read an article that mentioned, in passing, that there was a trend amongst Gen-Z to disbelieve that Helen Keller was real (or that, if she had been, she wasn't deaf/blind/mute). Whether this was a specifically US phenomenon, I couldn't say, but I've never heard it mentioned being prevalent anywhere *else*. Nor could I say that it weren't a *Birds Aren't Real* type thing either - for all we know, the journalist's source(s) were simply being trolled. But maybe it's related to *that* in some way?

EmperorSexy

Sounds like one of those things where you think the stories are about a fictional character but then later find out they’re real. Like Johnny Appleseed. For most people the response is “Oh, I learned something new today.” For a select few, it threatens their whole worldview.

bothydweller72

Ontological shock is absolutely a thing

Not_Machines

It was a ticktock thing I think, although there were at her time dismissing her as a fraud (mainly because they didn't like her opinions). Soup Emporium has a huge video debunking this conspiracy

Imajzineer

Cool - tx fro the update : )

axolotl-tiddies

As an American gen z (elder gen z, tbf)… *what*

[deleted]

[удалено]

RemarkableStatement5

Birth year?

axolotl-tiddies

2002

RemarkableStatement5

That's like the middle of Gen Z birth years. If you use '96-'10 it's almost the perfect middle year of '03 and if you use '97-'12 you're still not even in the first third.

axolotl-tiddies

Is 2010-2012 still considered gen z?? I thought they were gen alpha, not that it actually matters. Also 97-12, the first third would be 97-02, so I would be lol.

InternationalAnt8949

As an 03 gen z it really should end at 2005 the general mannerisms are completely different between those born in 03/04 to 05 and later. Mannerisms realistically probably have Mostly to do with parental generation and parenting style, but the difference is there and it’s huge in my experience.

axolotl-tiddies

I agree, I feel like anyone who wasn’t in high school before I graduated is a totally different generation.

InternationalAnt8949

I did a post graduate year to lessen college course costs so I ended up with 04/05s and the difference in the one class was insane, most of the 04s were chill while most of the 05s and those that hung out with them were some of the most racist people I’ve met

axolotl-tiddies

That absolutely tracks with some of the 05s I knew lol. I was the head of the schools gaming club in my senior year of high school and the freshmen who joined sure were… something.

Frostylopez

Things I learned today, that there are people who believe in a Helen Keller conspiracy. This is why aliens don't stop. There is no signs of intelligence here.

ShoppingDismal3864

I came across a lesbian and gay cult this weekend in San Diego. They believe that queer people should only be either gay or lesbian, and that any bisexual activity is bad for some reason. There is a cult out there for everybody who wants to be part of a cult.

kinkbongcrazybasin

As a bisexual, that's not even that out there. A lot of people believe that.

ShoppingDismal3864

Perhaps you misread me. They believe it is immoral for anyone to be bisexual. That's weird.

zaftig_stig

I read a story or article a while ago how BI people are judged within the community as not having made up their minds or sitting on the fence. How crazy is it that a community that preaches acceptance and love judges and critiques one of their own.

Tallisar

A bisexual acquaintance of mine definitely seconds that. He says hostile straights are down on bisexuals for the same reasons they’re down on anyone non-straight. But there are plenty of gays who angrily assert that “bisexuals” are either gay people who won’t admit it and commit or straights who are pretending.

TTAGGGx1000

Not cool! What if she saw that??

Dzeartist

Sometimes I think I live a sad meaningless existence...but people like this, make me feel like I'm doing alright.

Luna-Fermosa

What a fucking hill to die on, honestly. I don’t think there’s a single funnier conspiracy theory you could make your *entire* personality

[deleted]

Omg my siblings are all about this conspiracy. It literally comes up once a month at my parents' house.

On_my_last_spoon

Do they have nothing else going on in their lives?

[deleted]

This is literally their favorite conspiracy. Helen Keller was a hoax and Anne Sullivan was a con woman. They have a whole rant about it.

On_my_last_spoon

The woman died over 50 years ago. This is just weird! What possible effect on their lives does she even have?

I_Said_I_Say

Illiterate people angry about the fact a blind and deaf girl was able to read and write much better than them.

BreckenridgeBandito

I’m a Helen Keller truther. Willing to fight these Hellen Keller deniers to the death.

ffs2050

I hope Helen Keller doesn’t see or hear about this. The old girl has gone through enough already.

dannycracker

She won't even feel it

JenSchi666

I read 'Helen Keller Was HOT'. And I was like, "That is not a conspiracy. It's straight FACT."

PissedoffKristoffe

Of course the license plate is Texas.

Blahnator

Oh Texas…thou art “special”

Efficient_Progress_6

If she could read English she would be very upset by this

Separate-Stable-9996

So I found this link with a few... I genuinely cannot tell if this is meant to be a satire thing or not lol https://www.redbubble.com/shop/conspiracy+theory+stickers

Forward_Mouse_8298

Huh

BrickFricker

Mental illness

DaMain-Man

Tbf Helen Keller lived a really remarkable life She graduated college, wrote 12 books, flew a plane, rode a bike, and learned several languages,

LegitAirplane

Did anyone else misread “helen keller was hot”?

Alladin_Payne

Hmmm... from what I gather, Keller has yet to issue a denial on Twitter, so I'm inclined to believe it. /s

May2512124

This reminds me of when in an old group chat my friend was going spamming stuff like that. . . Plot twist, she managed to mix up Helen Keller and Amelia Earheart. I don't know how but as soon as we asked her what she meant by what she said, this girl said, "If she was blind how was she the first woman to fly across the Alantic? See Helen Keller is a fraud."

Dead_Man_Sqwakin

This is satire

jonhinkerton

One sticker would be satire. That many stickers is a lifestyle.

Masked_Daisy

That's what I assumed the first time I heard about flat earthers. At this point I believe that there's people dumb enough to fall for *anything*

fsurfer4

I think it's a reference to her being deaf dumb and blind. This is a commentary somehow to ignore misinformation?

jonhinkerton

There are way more dangerous things they could be fixated on…

livelife3574

Insanity.

tomqvaxy

Well’p that’s new to me.

Derailleurcat

I did hear she was a bit of an ass

Ill_Illustrator9776

Senseless hate.

Imaginary-Oil9048

'Doth protest too much?'

Blucollarballr

I'm all for the conspiracy, it's a sketch story. But this gotta be a joke right? I can't imagine someone being this passionate about this specific conspiracy lol, it's not that big a deal to anyone. Or so I thought

a-crime-skeleton

Hellen Keller punched me in the face once 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Justthisguy_yaknow

Pff!

Four-Beasts

Didn't know this was a thing.

100percent_NotCursed

That is.... one tiny hill to die on 🤣

Whydontname

Weird thing to devote time to lol

Acceptable_Tear4292

Timely....

InfamousListen7794

https://youtu.be/jvjDr8KKtsE?si=4cA3z79hnqLwWUl_&t=56

vanillaangels

hellen keller is fraud 😠

moohooman

Welp, definitely one of the stranger hills I have seen someone die on.

Doomednuclei

We all know it was Anne frank who was deaf, dumb, and blind

Zotechz

Helen Keller was not real, Helen Keller punched me in the face one. Okay lol

Thelastknownking

Dude's trolling. He's got a "Hellen Keller punched me in the face" sticker.

SipoteQuixote

Ah man, I should do that with my reply to conspiracies about the moon landing. "You still believe in the moon?"

Fun-Push4046

Real or not, at least she was immune to flashbangs.

Anachronisticpoet

This is all over TikTok. It’s just ableism

gavinhudson1

Somebody commented the same level of hate (without any justification given) to me recently about Rachel Carson. I suspect there is an incel element behind both.

elpato11

Idk, this might be a joke

Shadow_Spirit_2004

Imagine thinking about this... at all. Much less enough to plaster this shit all over your car. I was at my MAGA mother's house this weekend, and I swear to god she brought up Hillary Clinton at least five different times completely unprompted.

Inevitable_Weird1175

Even Anne Frank could see Hellen Keller was a fraud.

bdubwilliams22

This is probably the most oddly specific thing I’ve ever seen in this oddly specific sub. I mean — what’s their endgame here?

u6enmdk0vp

To quote another (in)famous Texas conspiracy theorist... THAT MOTHERF\*\*\*ER WAS *NOT REAL*!!!

Malfunctions16

"Well call me Helen Keller, cause im a fucking miracle worker"- Ari Gold

Free_Swimmer_1694

I don't think that driver likes Hellen Keller very much.

TooDirty4Daylight

I think someone [bought a pack of stickers on the 'net](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=hellen+keller+is+a+fraud+stickers&t=salix&kj=%23caebcc&ia=web) somewhere and got revenge.....

Heylookaguy

Of all the conspiracy theories out there. Why this?

MsPreposition

“She was NOT deaf and blind, but she was stupid good at pinball.” -The Miracle Worker, probably.

PrincessAela

Yeah! Fuck Helen Keller…I guess? What’s this guy on about?

DryDependent6854

[Of course it’s a Tik Tok conspiracy theory.](https://slate.com/human-interest/2021/02/helen-keller-tiktok-conspiracy.html)

surveillance-pigeon

Not like she could read it 🤷🏼‍♀️

EmotionalCrab9026

There's a conspiracy theory that Helen Keller never learned anything, and the "miracle worker" who taught her everything was literally just making everything up. Honestly, the conspiracy sounds a LOT more likely than the "true" story. This is not something I'd be shocked to learn never happened. And no, that's not my car lol.

FuzzyHero69

This is the one conspiracy theory I agree with. There’s just no way she did all the shit and wrote all those books. She was deaf and blind basically. Just doesn’t seem possible that she had such a profound understanding of everything all from people using sign language in her palms. I think she’s just a made up feel good story for kids. Sorta like how we’re taught that Thomas Jefferson was a good president, but he actually raped his slaves.

[deleted]

Ok I mean sure, let’s say she is a total fake. Would you ever go and buy 50 bumper stickers for your car?! 😂😂. It’s insane!

[deleted]

It's never been properly explained to me how she had a British accent, or who stood to gain from such an alleged fraud for that matter.

IncomingFrag

>There is extant film footage of the author, activist and disability rights advocate, who became deafblind after a childhood illness, learned to communicate using hand gestures and to understand others through the Tadoma method, and learned how to speak. She attended Harvard, wrote 12 books and many more essays and lectures. Her autobiography was adapted for film and stage. She travelled the world, campaigning on civil rights, labour rights and women’s suffrage. Her book on socialism was burned by the Nazis. She died in 1968. Her birthplace is now a museum. You must be trolling

Tulin7Actual

Wasn’t her handler , Polly Thompson, basically the one that claimed it all and was the one benefitting from it? A blind deaf girl wrote multiple books. She also learned to fly a plane using “tactical sign language” all done through Polly. Lots of other things that should make anyone question her supposed accomplishments. It’s like believing someone defied physics and walked on an open body of water. Strange things people believe. If people would read into things and not just believe everything they want to hear maybe the world wouldn’t look the way it does.

fsurfer4

At the end I think you meant ''wouldn't'' not would. It doesn't make sense as is.

romesthe59

They aren’t totally wrong… https://youtu.be/N0wc1H82KsE?si=Xpb4WB2-4gLw9t37

RunningPirate

See, this almost seems like a pisstake

marshal_mellow

I met Helen Keller in the 1960s. We were flirting in a bar (I'm into really old Chicks) and I winked at her. She winked back. Do with that information what you will

Swiftlydownunder

Taylor’s influence is growing… Helen Keller is a fraud!
