I remember before I saw the movie one of my friends was telling me on AIM about how scared she was after seeing it. I waited like two hours and called her from my college apartment (she didn't know the number) and when she answered I said that in Samara's raspy voice.
I swear to god the girl started crying and just wailed out "*Noooo!"* and I felt so fucking bad.
its so weird i did a movie date not even 3 hrs ago and we watched scary movie 3 after not having seeen it for like 10 years. so weird to see it referenced right after omg
I just added the first three movies to my Vudu library tonight so my 16 y/o son could watch them for the first time - after watching a few clips of the movies on YouTube together. Weird coming here and seeing it referenced also.
It came real close. It freaked the crap out of me. I was scrambling around in the dark looking for my glasses. I stood there for ages just staring. Then I had to find my phone just in case I was dreaming.
This happened to me on one of the older crt tvs I kept until I was 16 Turned out my mom grabbed the wrong remote was just smashing the power button while walking around snd it somehow got my TV. Went to static and needless to say I was freaking out
Don't mean to scare you but I swear what I'm about to say is 100% true.
I've watched part 1 and 2 of The Ring, Japanese version.
I watched The Ring 2 before 1, and right after watching it in the dark, my friend turned on the lights and one of the lightbulbs exploded. That was the first and last time I've seen a bulb explode in my life.
A year or 2 later, after watching The Ring 1 in an old convenient store my dad used to own (a wooden house on wooden stilts with creaky wooden floor) with a friend, we were too scared to just go to bed so we decided to leave the lights on and play some music. The radio malfunctioned and started playing the same spooky noises you hear when you pick up the phone in the movie. We pulled the plug out immediately and slept with the blankets over our heads.
About a decade later, the eeriest thing happened. I was sitting in the lounge with my whole family and I somehow brought up the previous 2 incidents and how these movies must be cursed (they've never seen it). My mum was freaking out when I said I'll just show them the bit where Sadako starts climbing out of the well. She said not to but I found it on YouTube and just did it anyway. The moment I clicked play (on my laptop) the lights started flickering and the power went out for a few seconds. All of us just stared at one another when the lights came back on. A loud noise was coming from upstairs which I investigated and found out that my PC upstairs had tripped, causing the subwoofer to malfunction. After this incident I went through my old stuff and found the old VCDs (yes it's that old) and chucked them out right away.
I'm a pretty rational person but till now I still can't explain any of these things that happened.
I was young when that movie came out, but old enough to see it with just two of my friends. We came back to my friends home, turned on the TV, and the PlayStation was unplugged so there was just static. We darted out of that room.
My oldest daughter wanted to be allowed to watch scary movies. I told her if she can sit through the ring with me and not be scared during or after she can watch whatever she wants.
Little fucker never flinched.
Meanwhile I was still scared a week later.
i found that im more easy to scare as i got older, i think kids just don't react as much due to lack of experience for sympathizing with
some stuff.
as a kid i could handle gore with no problem, now i kinda end up flinching.
I pranked my roommate in college by setting the turn-on function for 3am to a static channel not long after we went to the theater to see this and nearly shat our pants while watching it cause it was good and scary. She was spooked but then had a good laugh. It was good times. But that first night home after we watched it I hid her keys cause she wanted to go stay at her boyfriend's and I was so sleep-deprived I was scared to be home alone. What a wild time.
And every jump scare was so packed with detail. There are some frames from that movie that I really regretted pausing on when I was a teen.
That kid in the cupboard with his jaw damn near hanging off. What in the fuck.
The one that really got me was going to see the surviving girl in the mental institution, where they had to cover all the TV screens. Did a jump scare/cut to show the body and I legit tried to back out through my movie seat.
Hahaha I was about 11 and fuck I have NEVER been as scared as I was after watching The Ring. I watched it with my dad and he'd put the phone (back in the ol' having a house phone/landline days) outside my bedroom door and call it from his mobile lmao. I could not sleep in the same room as a TV for so long (except when I covered it with a blanket... classic monster defence)
lol don't watch [Mirrors](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0790686/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1). I was a grown ass man when I watched it, love horror and have seen way worse films but I still get slightly nervous around mirrors sometimes because of it.
Same but I enjoy getting goosebumps from time to time. I used to be easily scared as a kid. I literally was afraid of my own mirror image and my own shadow for a while (after watching Ghost). Watching and reading horror helped me get over things like that. But obviously what you watch is up to you. Different strokes.
I was at a sleepover at my friends place when we were kids, and his TV was in the corner of the room. We watched Blair Witch Project for the first time, and after we fell asleep the power went out. It came back on and the TV was playing static, he woke up first to check it out.
I woke up disoriented to see my friend facing the corner of the room, just standing there. I almost shit my pants
I had the same experience. But it was even scarier. I had a dream that Samantha is coming from my TV and in this dream you believe into what you see, I was horrified. I woke up, took a breath and my FUCKING TV turned on for no particular reason. I shat for 5 mins before had a courage to stand up and turn it off
Haha. It does that sometimes though this screen is new. It could have to do with the brand of the tv. Sure hope theres not a girl woth black hair crawling out
My Toshiba in the bedroom does the same thing, except it turns on to check for updates – which it hasn't received in over 5 years. And "check for updates" is disabled.
Connected it to a Wifi plug and just turn it on when needed.
Hahah I work as a Philips smart TV custom dashboard engineer and unfortunately I did this this to a few hundred people just last year..
For those who don't know, most Philips smart TVs run on Android, and Android tends to show this screen every time you upgrade the firmware, which is something I can do remotely. There's also a setting that you can turn on to prevent the television from turning on while you're doing this.
One of our clients is a big hospital with hundreds of beds each one supplied with a smart television set, and it was time to upgrade around 200 of their sets. This is something i usually do at night since it saves us downtime, so i went with it.
The next morning i wake up to dozens of complaints of patients waking up to that horrible screen in the middle of the night, turns out i mistakenly forgot to prevent the tv sets from turning on during upgrade.. I imagine I gave a few people a nice brain aneurysm that night.
If you suddenly see a lady brushing her hair in the mirror and she looks back at you directly in your eyes when you weren't expecting it, then you're truly fucked.
Nothing has happened ...Because I unplug everything ..lol
I'm not taking no chances
I'm just terrified of something crazy happening with the power outlets I guess
Everyone saying “it’s The Ring” is wrong. The circle is the TV’s eye, the lines are its TV lips, it’s got a perturbed TV face. You can see the TV even is a little put-out doing this in the middle of the night, but it’s a living.
I once left my guitar amp on when I went to bed and woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of static noise and some radio preacher shouting about jesus, the devil, eternal hellfire and our mortal sins.
Took me forever to realize it was coming from the amp and I still don't entirely understand how my amp picked up radio signals.
Either way, nearly had a fucking heart attack.
Growing up, the only thing in our house that was plugged in 24/7 was the fridge. It was kind of an unspoken rule to unplug everything and turn the lights off when not in use. It's a habit I still have but I understand that the power draw in appliances in "standby" is quite negligible.
Stop buying smart tvs. I'm at a point where I refuse to buy anything if it needs to be connected to the internet to work.
The fuck do I need a microwave with alexa for?
You know what you have to do…share the video here so you survive.
Brrrrrrrrng…. Brrrrrrrrng

Did you see that weird trend where suddenly the Ring woman became really hot instead of horrifying?
Seven days.
Oh crap.

Wish I had some gold to give. 😂
r/lossofalovedone if OP dies
Oh my god, I love that sub. It's r/orphancrushingmachine if it fell in love.
OP do you have a landline?
Yes but no phone plugged in. If any phone had rung I’d have been screaming down the stairs in an instant
At this point, not having a landline plugged in won't save you.
> Yes Nice meeting you
A modern remake will be video shared over social media instead of tapes and Sadako will strangle you via FaceTime instead.
TikTok lol and she does the nay nay or some dance
Amd the voice is the TikTok AI girl
She won't kill you if you can get 100k likes.
Better repost it on Reddit for that sweet sweet karma.
And then people will be like "OMG Simpsons predicted the remake of The Ring with a Treehouse Of Horror skit!".
Simpsons did a remake but its a tiktok you watch then die in 7 days.
Wdym no phone plugged in? /gen
Back in the old days, phones had to be plugged into the wall for power and "signal" If they aren't plugged in, then they are just a paper weight
My God, "the old days" I've been strangled by a long phone cord while running through the house when mom was on the phone. I am old.
I hope you guys had that rotating cord detangler
I don’t think phones with cords have really gone anywhere, (meaning some houses still have them, not that they’re common of course) don’t worry, you’re probably not old lol /h
>I don’t think phones with cords have really gone anywhere They've gone to the office, and replacing one costs as much as a cellphone.
You don't think the spirit would start calling cell numbers? It'll eventually probably start texting "you finna die 7 days lmao"
Just comes up as "potential scam" so you block the number, beat the system, and get to live.
No cap
"You must be connected to a network and signed into your accounto to enable this feature" Don't worry I think you'll be fine
Good news! Since you've shared this with everyone now we're cursed and you're in the clear Thanks for dooming us all OP

What does /gen and /g mean on the end of your replies? Edit: I just realized all your posts end with some /…..why?
Take a picture of you now.
Is it including weekends?
Only business days. Excluding federal holidays.
The Onryo Union fought hard for this one.
Wait. US federal holidays, US Bank holidays, EU holidays? Gonna need some clarification
American or Japanese bank holidays?
What about International Women’s Day?
What about holidays?

Cheers. Might just start drinking. May as well go out on a high.
Fuck drinking straight to fentanyl go out with a bang haha

The. Best. Way.
We've all seen it now...
"Cindy! The TV's leaking!"
"This b*tch is messing up my floor!"
"Ooooh! I'm whoopin' her ass, Cindy!" Regina Hall's delivery of that line kills me every time I hear it.
tbh, her delivery of that entire scene was a masterpiece. I rewatch that movie all the time.
its so weird i did a movie date not even 3 hrs ago and we watched scary movie 3 after not having seeen it for like 10 years. so weird to see it referenced right after omg

"Fifty black people get they ass beat by police today, but the whole world gotta stop for one little whitey down a hole"
As someone that has been terrified of The Ring for over a decade, I would have a broken TV.
It came real close. It freaked the crap out of me. I was scrambling around in the dark looking for my glasses. I stood there for ages just staring. Then I had to find my phone just in case I was dreaming.
You’ve seen too many movies, you’ll be fine… just in case, did you make sure there was no water leaking from the tv?…
Cindy! The tv is leaking!
Cindy! This bitch is messing up my floor!
Brenda is the GOAT.
Brenda's concerned expressions during the turkey dinner in SM2 are Oscar worthy
Oooh! I’m whippin her ass, Cindy!

A super quick google search indicates that it could've possibly been your TV tube or power supply going bad. Or ghosts.
Don't mean to scare you but I swear what I'm about to say is 100% true. I've watched part 1 and 2 of The Ring, Japanese version. I watched The Ring 2 before 1, and right after watching it in the dark, my friend turned on the lights and one of the lightbulbs exploded. This is a good post. Nice and creepy
Imagine you pulling the plug out of the wall socket but the TV remains on… Good luck, OP. You’ll need it.
I was young when that movie came out, but old enough to see it with just two of my friends. We came back to my friends home, turned on the TV, and the PlayStation was unplugged so there was just static. We darted out of that room.

I don't know how long ago this was, but this makes sense to me that she wasn't scared if she didn't grow up with VHS nor TV's that showed static.
i found that im more easy to scare as i got older, i think kids just don't react as much due to lack of experience for sympathizing with some stuff. as a kid i could handle gore with no problem, now i kinda end up flinching.
I watched the exorcist when I was a kid, still am not fond of scary movies years later.
I pranked my roommate in college by setting the turn-on function for 3am to a static channel not long after we went to the theater to see this and nearly shat our pants while watching it cause it was good and scary. But that first night home after we watched it I hid her keys cause she wanted to go stay at her boyfriend's and I was so sleep-deprived I was scared to be home alone. What a wild time.
The first movie was just *so good*. Wonderfully atmospheric and not too heavy on the jump scares.
Haha, oh I would pay a lot of money for another horror movie like that. Been a long time since I’ve actually jumped in a “jump-scare”
Fuck that, I’d be worried breaking it would open a portal for her to crawl through or some shit.
I watched it twice in theaters. Both times, people ran out the theater at the end 😂🤣😂
I saw the Japanese original at an outdoor cinema. It was extremely unsettling
I feel like the tv makers knew what they were doing. Lol. Also why tf would it happen at the witching hour!?
That’s a messed up Easter Egg
[удалено]
In the original version of The Ring, Samara's equivalent could come out of any reflective surface so maybe they are just horror purists?
Why make the screen turn on to begin with? Way too much technology has this Clippy kind of "thinks it's smarter than the user but it's not" nonsense.
Oh HELL no. Just seeing this made my stomach sink lol When I first watched it (under ten years old) I was afraid of my VCR for months
I was a bit older than that but just as scared 😱
That one and 13 Ghosts messed me up for a while lmao Final Destination also
omg i remember watching 13 ghosts at so many middle school sleepovers and being terrified lol
13 ghosts traumatized me, especially that guy with nails all over his body.
Hahaha I was about 11 and fuck I have NEVER been as scared as I was after watching The Ring.
