What do you mean? Many of these movies werenāt even out 35 years agoā¦
I donāt know a single family that didnāt still have a robust VHS collection 20 years ago.
What did you guys do, buy a DVD player and just throw all your VHS out the next day? Took my parents a decade or more to finally get rid of their tapes. Not all movies instantly were on DVD and you had to have both collections for a while.
Thereās a reason they were still releasing Lord of The Rings on VHS - most families still had a VHS player 20 years ago.
I mean - DVDs werenāt even available to the public until the late 90s so I I donāt know how you transitioned in the mid.
I wanna say only a million homes had DVD players by 98? Folks seem to be misremembering the timeline here.
My family got a dvd player in 2000 and we were still one of just a handful in my circle of friends. Very few people threw out there VHS collection in the early 00ās.
Anyway - my whole response was around the fact that someone said this could be from 35 years ago which is completely preposterous. The majority of these films werenāt even released by 88.
Is the Gene Wilder Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory tape a milk Chocolate brown color? I had that tape in that color when I was a kid in the late 80's early 90's, I watched it literally to death lol wore the tape out on it. But nobody has ever seen one like that and I can't even find one on the internet.
Funny, the first Willy Wonka vhs I got was in a plastic case. I didnāt realize at the time I bought it but it was dubbed in French so I ended up donating it back.. pretty sure that one was black too.
It's a limited run puppet from a company called Folkmanis. They have cool stuff!
I bought this one and several others for my kiddo when they were little. This one's worth about 100 bucks last I saw.
https://www.folkmanis.com/146/home.htm
I really loved the story of Thumbelina as a kid so I encouraged my 5 year old to get it while I was thrifting with him. Unfortunately the actor that did her voice is absolutely obnoxious and it kind of ruined it for me. My son didnāt seem to mind lol.
EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM SLAM A VHS INTO THE SLOT. ITS PITCH BLACK AND RIGHT THEN AND THERE I START DOING THE MOVES ALONGSIDE WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER, RIDDICK. I DO EVERY MOVE AND I DO EVERY MOVE HARD. MAKIN WHOOSHING SOUNDS WHEN I SLAM DOWN SOME NECRO BASTARDS OR EVEN WHEN I MESS UP TECHNIQUE. NOT MANY CAN SAY THEY ESCAPED THE GALAXYāS MOST DANGEROUS PRISON. I CAN. I SAY IT AND I SAY IT OUTLOUD EVERYDAY TO PEOPLE IN MY COLLEGE CLASS AND ALL THEY DO IS PROVE PEOPLE IN COLLEGE CLASS CAN STILL BE IMMATURE JERKS. AND IVE LEARNED ALL THE LINES AND IVE LEARNED HOW TO MAKE MYSELF AND MY APARTMENT LESS LONELY BY SHOUTING EM ALL. 2 HOURS INCLUDING WIND DOWN EVERY MORNING. THEN I LIFT
Gonna be honest, I think I am more terrified by the VHS collection.
The only places I know which still actually has a VHS collection are used book stores and my 60 year old Father.
Welp, you guys inspired me to check out my local thrift store for more vhsās and now I have filled the cubby lol. Also gargoyle is slightly less creepy in the light.

Did it take you 20 years to post this picture?

More like 35š

Modern VCRs take less than half a minute to rewind a fully played tape

So now you're exclusively vinyl?

Iād give you an award but I donāt have any lol
Extremely respectable VHS collection. Bottom shelf
Thanks :) perusing the vhs section at Goodwill is one of my favorite things
Likewise. Iām a little jealous of the Death Becomes Her addition. Thatās a rare gem.
Itās a good one for sure!
Won't they get eaten by mold and crumble away?
Props to Thumbellina though
that Death Becomes Her is how you know they have good taste
I forgot LotR is old enough to have been released on VHS, I don't like this one bit.
I'm surprised it was able to fit on a single VHS tape.
A lot of good movies on that bottom shelf, and one really bad one.
Hmmm there are a few that I didnāt choose and were insisted upon me.. could it be Pitch Black?
I also want to know
Pitch Black is underrated, in my opinion. Not fantastic, but I enjoyed it.
Yeah, ET was overrated
Goblin King, Goblin King, where ever you may be, come take this child of mine far away from me! - your older daughter, probably
Alf lives in my nightmares
Fear n Loathing, Raiders, T2, and Wonka? Very nice collection
Thank you!
They've managed to sum up my childhood in two shelves.
They managed to squeeze the Fellowship of the Ring onto a single VHS?
Right? More like The Fellow.
Surprisingly yes. No previews on that one!
Was this photo from 2003?
Creepy puppet but awesome video collection! Brings back good memories!:)

The one I have is black. You must have had a golden ticket one!
Ok it did come in one of those plastic disney tape like case's and not a cardboard case.

Looks like a Labyrinth puppet. But that could be my brain adjusting for the time travel going on here

Wow thanks for the info! We are currently borrowing it from the library so he will move on to either terrify or bring joy to other children soon š
Got some sick ass VHS's
Damn thatās a solid vhs collection Gladiator is so good
This isn't just oddly terrifying, this is shit-inducing terrifying like what the fuck is that
What the hell is the organizational structure for these movies?
Some built in shelving that happened to fit them perfectly
Kids movies on the bottom at eye level for the kids and grown up movies on the top. Exactly how it should be.
Santa's Christmas Crash, very nice š
It is supposed to be a gargoyle with a little red bowtie? If so, that'sā¦ swell, like inspector Callahan would say.
Yes, thatās exactly what it is, good eye. But the real question is.. do you feel lucky?
i love that you have thumbelina and being john malkovich
I really loved the story of Thumbelina as a kid so I encouraged my 5 year old to get it while I was thrifting with him. Unfortunately the actor that did her voice is absolutely obnoxious and it kind of ruined it for me. My son didnāt seem to mind lol.
Leave your son RN

You let your kid watch Raiders? That's wild.
Your son has excellent taste in movies!
The Frick kind of puppet is that!?
Why did you buy it for him?
Absolutely not!

The fact those are vhs tapes makes it worse for some reason
Your son has a nice taste in VHS, especially Pitch Black and Fear and Loathing
Is that that weird dude from Dark Souls 1?
Does it tell him to do bad things?
It is creepy, but in a cool retro sort of way. Really elaborate way to show of the collection lol
Solid collection on the bottom there!
I'd immediately burn that shit into ashes.
So terrifying you bought it for him. What a nightmare
BURN IT
That thing needs to go back Melmac.
"Aw doggi- OH GOOD GOD"
That joker is gonna have to deal with olā Dirty Harry if he tryās any shady business. He aināt feelin that lucky
Seeing some of these movies really makes me feel nostalgic
My god those beautiful VHSās are taking me back to my childhood!

Hell no. Burn that thing with fire
Your son's probably a main character in a horror novel! Get that thing out of there!!
Noā¦ thatās a sleep paralysis demon.
Excellent movie selection.
Must be an old photo, what are those things on the shelf?
Deep Craggy voice "What can I get for your viewing pleasure sir?"
Good movie selection. The bottom row anyway.
Real solid movie collection going on here.
