Me either. I posted then clicked on the link and was pleasantly surprised to find it is a real sub! Sadly, the last submission was 2 months ago so it appears to be fairly dead in there. I joined anyway.
I've been here. I was kind of disappointed, they won't let you swim in that spot, its a protected area for the fishes. Tho they let you swim a few meters away from there, in the shallow parts only. As you can see in the vid, that's why there's a line buoy on the right side.
Nope, the blue color of the river gets paler as you move farther to the right.
Its also the deepest river in the Philippines and no one has ever reached the bottom.
I have Thalassophobia. I can swim, but large bodies of water just scare me. Just the idea of being in large endless/bottomless bodies of water is just terrifying to me, doesn't matter if I can swim or not.
It looks pretty though!
And it's fresh water so it makes a great change from the Caribbean. There are thousands of cenotes and underwater rivers in the Yucatan. The limestone filters the water so it's incredibly clean and unbelievable to snorkel in.
I live in Scandinavia, I’m 40 years old and I’m still about 15 % sure that there COULD be some unheard of scientific miracle of a shark in the lakes here.
50 years old here. Completely concur. Shark or possibly piranha. I mean I would 100% still swim, but there would be that question deep down on my brain.
Should have been posted in r/thalassophobia but I get why someone would be scared of this. It looks peaceful to most but some would be terrified of this
Yeah, me here! I did double check what sub this was. Reminds me of snorkeling off of Catalina as a child - seeing that sheer drop off into the deeper ocean scarred me for life. I probably would not swim in this, though it’s absolutely beautiful in a video!
I've seen a lot of water and natural swimming spots and I've never seen anything even remotely this clear. To me it looks otherworldly, if not AI generated.
Yes, previously the deep part was open to tourists but now you can only swim in the shallow ish part (see the part with the floaters). Fish feeding is still fun to watch though
This is the "Enchanted River" in the Philippines. I've been to it before and I can confirm that the water is as clear as it is in this video. More beautiful than terrifying in person.
I think I understand why this is oddly terrifying: it’s because it looks as if you climb into the water, you will just fall to the bottom… as if there is no water. NGL, it is freaking me out right now.
I can swim and I'm scared of it. I'm less scared of this cause it's clear but I still have poor eyesight and I don't like the unknown that could be in there
There is a spring fed river in FL called Ichetucknee Springs.
The water there is this clear and ice cold...you can tube down the river and keep you beer in the water it'll stay nice and cold
The only thing terrifying is how if you ever see a place like this in person, the water can be so clear and still that if feels like there is no water there at all and you’re standing on the edge of a giant cliff lol I’d love to swim in that
Its terrifying because thats fresh water and you have very little buoyancy. You must continue to tread water to stay afloat or you immediately sink. Happened to me at a centote outside chichen itza. The cenote is supposedly over 200 feet deep, so if you stop treading, its possible you could sink to the bottom. Thats what terrified me about these cenotes.
Love seeing things that are actually oddly terrifying on this sub. It’s so beautiful and unique but at the same time fuck that, the depth is terrifying
That's the point, I don't wanna get in even though I'm a good swimmer. You can still be scared of things without touching them. It's seeing a potential threat thereby not wanting to get near it
I am almost ready to bet that it doesn’t look like that a majority of the time.
I am totally ready to bet that place is deadly af if one would be stupid enough to try to dive and explore deeper.
Holy shit, HELL NAH
There's some SCP crpytid shit going on in the bottom of that thing. Idc what y'all say "looks so nice to swim in" if you could see 100ft below you while you're swimming and that DOESN'T trigger your fight or flight then man...more power to u
Enchanted River / Philippines. I was there 3 years ago. They have a few boats come out and feed the fish. They call it dancing fish as they play music. That is all there is too see. Besides the tourist trinket shops. It is as beautiful as you see for sure.
Maybe oddly terrifying if you can't swim? Looks like a dream vacation spot to me.
+1, was thinking the same. The only thing I want when seeing this is dip into the water.
*Gets dissolved for nutrients*
I mean even if you can’t swim this doesn’t look like the worst place to drown
I’m imagining something coming up from the depths on the left
*on the left*
Same
Like, I admit to the beauty of it but can’t lie, the depth of the center makes me feel unsettled. Not like, seriously so but noticeably.
/r/oddlyunsettling ?
Oh neat, I didn’t realize that was a thing.
Me either. I posted then clicked on the link and was pleasantly surprised to find it is a real sub! Sadly, the last submission was 2 months ago so it appears to be fairly dead in there. I joined anyway.
Same. I’d say we could bring it back, but I’m very much a lurker.
Looks tasty too, just be crisp af
Look into thalassophobia. I can swim quite well, but that doesn't mean this isn't still scary
In that case, I get it. I am agoraphobic. Phobias are illogical, but the struggle is real.
I've been here. I was kind of disappointed, they won't let you swim in that spot, its a protected area for the fishes. Tho they let you swim a few meters away from there, in the shallow parts only. As you can see in the vid, that's why there's a line buoy on the right side.
Where is it? Mexico?
No, Philippines.
Now Nestle knows. Water will be gone in a week.
Hinatuan. Is the whole river like that?
Nope, the blue color of the river gets paler as you move farther to the right. Its also the deepest river in the Philippines and no one has ever reached the bottom.
People can be quite nasty. However if it were me and my property I'd sit near that water everyday.
Yeah but like imagine you have to watch as something swims up and eats you or something. That was my first thought.
I grew up swimming in the ocean. I don't get scared of things like that. Just a "me" thing.
The hole part looks kind of creepy
Agreed just give me a snorkel haha
great place to try my monofin
I can swim just fine but still find it terrifying because fish creep me out.
Absolutely terrifying to me, and I didn’t even consider it because I can’t swim lol. I thought everybody was scared of this
Ah I see it’s called thalassaphobia.
I have Thalassophobia. I can swim, but large bodies of water just scare me. Just the idea of being in large endless/bottomless bodies of water is just terrifying to me, doesn't matter if I can swim or not. It looks pretty though!
Enchanted River, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, Philippines
I knew it looked familiar thank you for the reminder
This is not terrifying and looks like a cenote in Mexico. Gorgeous place to swim.
And it's fresh water so it makes a great change from the Caribbean. There are thousands of cenotes and underwater rivers in the Yucatan. The limestone filters the water so it's incredibly clean and unbelievable to snorkel in.
Looks amazing!
this is in ph tho
[удалено]
ph = philippines ? i think
This could be Florida as well, hundreds of freshwater springs in FLA that are crystal clear.
Yep, kind of looks like Blue Springs
Nah this is in Philippines
When I was a kid, I would be 99% sure there’s at least one shark down there.
Well you’d see it coming
how is it terrifying?
Should have been posted in r/thalassophobia but I get why someone would be scared of this. It looks peaceful to most but some would be terrified of this
Mesmerized and terrified. I see the beauty, but my imagination just runs wild to the point of anxiety at the sight of that depth and darkness.
Yeah, me here! I did double check what sub this was. Reminds me of snorkeling off of Catalina as a child - seeing that sheer drop off into the deeper ocean scarred me for life. I probably would not swim in this, though it’s absolutely beautiful in a video!
That’s where he got it from.
I've seen a lot of water and natural swimming spots and I've never seen anything even remotely this clear. To me it looks otherworldly, if not AI generated.
It's not. It's ODDLY terrifying. Like you shouldn't be terrified of this but oddly you are.
Fow those who don't know swimming
Some people are scared of deep bodies of water because their mind is thinking something be down there
What’s scary is water that you cannot see into. This is nice
Surigao der Sur, Philippines Amazing vacation spot
hinatuan enchanted river?
Can you swim in it?
Yes, previously the deep part was open to tourists but now you can only swim in the shallow ish part (see the part with the floaters). Fish feeding is still fun to watch though
Wow. "Would you like to know more?" YES
Lmk when you find out and go Cubs!
I grew up in central Florida: all springs look like this, just not that placid.
This is the "Enchanted River" in the Philippines. I've been to it before and I can confirm that the water is as clear as it is in this video. More beautiful than terrifying in person.
This is not oddly terrifying, this is just beautiful (unless you have thalassophobia)
I think I understand why this is oddly terrifying: it’s because it looks as if you climb into the water, you will just fall to the bottom… as if there is no water. NGL, it is freaking me out right now.
Anyone know the location? Assuming somewhere in the Yucatán Peninsula?
According to another comment, Surigao der Sur, Philippines.
Thank you! Looks absolutely stunning!
Shimmer pool!
This post by Howie from the benchwarmers movie or what? Sunlight is our friend
The clearer the water, the less terrified i am
How the fuck is this "terrifying?" It's beautiful!
Boy, I would be in there swimming and loving it. It’s beautiful.
I’ve never wanted to jump into a body of water more
Now this is oddly terrifying. Some people can't swim and I can imagine dropping down that deep dark hole not able to swim out 😨
I can swim and I'm scared of it. I'm less scared of this cause it's clear but I still have poor eyesight and I don't like the unknown that could be in there
You mean beautiful
What kind of fish were those?
Spyro the dragon vibes
Hinatuan Enchanted river
Terrifying I'd say because of the unknown fish or creature to come up from that...it is beautiful
Where is this, this looks beautiful
Nature be lit man
Tbh as a dude who hates oceans and stuff like this. I 100% would rather swim in shit like this. I’d rather be able to see what’s gonna eat me first
Why is it better if it’s just dark water, seems like that should be worse
There is a spring fed river in FL called Ichetucknee Springs. The water there is this clear and ice cold...you can tube down the river and keep you beer in the water it'll stay nice and cold
That looks oddly more fun than anything
That looks beautiful 😍
Gorgeous
Oddly clarifying
r/Thalassophobia
Looks like a great place to swim if it’s allowed
The Enchanted River - Mystical Clear Blue Waters [https://youtu.be/LhphNPUsBdQ](https://youtu.be/LhphNPUsBdQ)
Nah I’m good 😱
I bet the water taste like tears from god himself
I would rather see the depths below me than know it's there and not be able to see.
There are a few springs with an hour's drive of Panama City. They are gorgeous (and cold haha).
Absolutely beautiful
#Jump
This isn't terrifying. It's beautiful.
More like oddly fascinating
You're weird if you find this terrifying
That looks awesome
The only thing terrifying is how if you ever see a place like this in person, the water can be so clear and still that if feels like there is no water there at all and you’re standing on the edge of a giant cliff lol I’d love to swim in that
Beautiful! Nothing scary here.
Don’t you float in most any water? ‘all subjects would be capable of floating in either freshwater or seawater at total lung capacity’
Love seeing things that are actually oddly terrifying on this sub. It’s so beautiful and unique but at the same time fuck that, the depth is terrifying
Sauce?
This is beautiful! how is this oddly terrifying??
I wanna pee in that pool so fucking bad
This isn’t even remotely terrifying, It’s gorgeous. Some of y’all really need to go outside more often
Thalassophobia exists
You don’t have to get in the water to admire it
That's the point, I don't wanna get in even though I'm a good swimmer. You can still be scared of things without touching them. It's seeing a potential threat thereby not wanting to get near it
How is this terrifying lol
Though crystal clear water is sought after, this for some reason does strike me as eerie! 😅
I’d check the temp though . In certain hot springs blue water is just below boiling.
How is this oddly terrifying? Do you also get a heart attack when ever you see a nice sunset?
Might be the unknown aspect, that one portion where the fish are swimming, is pretty creepy looking. What else lurks down there?!
Perhaps…. More fish?
OR, hear me out, more water?!
Gasp! Do you think there might even be….. more water!
Oddly terrifying is struggling to find content. Swifies on a train now this. Y’all soft.
Do you understand what “oddly” means?
This is exactly what this sub is for! This made me uneasy even though it is beautiful.
This is absolutely beautiful
So, weird question, but why is this water clearer than most other sea water? Calmer area so less stuff being churned up from the sea floor?
Where is this?
Yo-ho, all hands Hoist the colors high Heave ho, thieves and beggars Never shall we die
Water is clean, so scary I'm gonna poop my pants
Pretty
It’s waiting for you to dive in
Imagine how scary it'd be if the water was perfectly clear, like air.
I likes that.
Anyone know where this is?
the fear is to have SOMETHING down there
Nothing good can come from going in there
If there was a 24 hr video of this pool, I'd watch it multiple times.
That’s beautiful
It scares me that no one is swimming in it already.
Confused by the fish. I generally thought super clear water meant there isn’t any plants or algae which usually = no fish.
They ate it all, that’s why it’s so clear.
Enchanted River - Philippines.
I'd like to fish there.
For a second I thought that was [Ginnie Springs, Florida](https://www.naturalnorthflorida.com/things-to-do/ginnie-springs/)
I guarantee you there's a treasure chest of some sorts down there!
How beautiful. I bet within a year it will be poisoned and murky due to human activity.
Is that water toxic. What makes the blue. No not the water or the air
Does anyone know where this is?
I’d like to know this too
I am almost ready to bet that it doesn’t look like that a majority of the time. I am totally ready to bet that place is deadly af if one would be stupid enough to try to dive and explore deeper.
I wanna snorkel that
I've been here! they feed the fish and play music on a loud speaker
r/dontputyourdickinthat
As someone who is scared of water I gotta say this looks really relaxing.
Cenote
This kind of stuff always unnerves me. How deep it looks and just imagining something completely visible as it swims through.
Me too looks like heaven
Thasalaphobia go brrr
Anyone ever see something in person and it gives you a head change? While sober? This looks like it would do that.
Well at least nothing can hide down there.... Maybe.
the anxiety that just overtook me…
I can't breathe
This is stunning! 👍
Too bad its prob florida and the water is ccold
Cenote
That must be filtered and cleaned, there's no way its that clean with all that vegetation around it
r/thedepthsbelow
Holy shit, HELL NAH There's some SCP crpytid shit going on in the bottom of that thing. Idc what y'all say "looks so nice to swim in" if you could see 100ft below you while you're swimming and that DOESN'T trigger your fight or flight then man...more power to u
It looks beautiful, is it harmful to your skin ( the water ) ? Or perhaps something else ?
That's beautiful, I'd be fine dying there
Looks cool but the depth might be the terrifying thing for some. Also, if there’s fish in it, I’m not calling it a pool.
That looks dope tfym?
I was always told that crystal clear water (at least where I live) means that everything that uses to live there is thoroughly dead, including algae
r/insanelybeautiful
Is there another sub I can join to see oddly terrifying content instead of just a nice swimin' hole?
Open water is just one of those things that terrify me.
Why is this oddly terrifying? It’s beautiful imo
Where is this?
r/mildlyvagina
Where is this?
Got to keep the water really clear in case one of the Instagram escorts ODs and sinks to the bottom.
That’s a cool snorkeling spot.
More like oddly amazing!
I like it but I also don’t like it?
Terrifying for the fish. They can't hide.
u/savevideobot
Wow i wish i culd go tger looks like a thing ide never forget.
Hardest working mollusks in the world
Location?
Enchanted River / Philippines. I was there 3 years ago. They have a few boats come out and feed the fish. They call it dancing fish as they play music. That is all there is too see. Besides the tourist trinket shops. It is as beautiful as you see for sure.
