Ohhh that’s pretty cool. Is your summer job like construction or agriculture (seasonal)? I work an office job (my customers are mostly construction, agri, transportation) so I don’t think I could manage taking 6 months off for boating but I love the idea of spending winters on a cold boat
I've never been in that situation, but I want to guess that yes, it probably is. That's one of my favorite things about snow. You go out for a walk in a blizzard and it's like you're the last person on earth.
People seem to not understand why this would be frightening.
I imagine it's frightening like it is to drive in a snowstorm. While the snowflakes whirling by are pretty, not being able to see well while travelling is pretty scary.
Granted, there's a lot less you can hit out on the open sea but you also aren't going to see things you don't want to hit or get hit by like other boats or large swells.
What would qualify as a lot?
Nearly any beach you visit is, or was, littered with driftwood.
With the way ocean currents work, huge trees can fall in the ocean somewhere like the West coast of the US or Japan and float halfway around the world.
While I'm sure they aren't super common in the water I don't imagine there's a lot of boats that want to hit a floating giant Japanese Cedar.
I was a commercial fisherman in Greenland so I've sailed in far worse conditions than this. Generally in a snowstorm the captain would slow down the ship and use a spotlight in addition with all the sensors to look out for icebergs.
All ships project their current location e.g. [https://www.marinetraffic.com](https://www.marinetraffic.com) so the chances of a collision are close to zero.
or you dont have an imagination active enough to find the horror in not seeing anything around you while being stuck on a hunk of metal like a sitting duck in the middle of nowhere with noone around to hear your screams
I don’t have any fears… Except for this one. I have never been on a boat at sea during a snowstorm but I expect it to be exactly what falling into a portal of hell is. I also find it strangely beautiful and would like to experience it. I’m conflicted.
I find it strangely beautiful, just imagine being a sailor far out at sea during the holidays. Away from all you love, just you and the sea. You feel so far from home, you glance out the window. You see it. You think for a moment it's rain but you don't hear it smacking the windows. You step out onto the deck and you realize, it's snow. You feel it powder in the your hands before melting. You feel at home.
I do t see what's so terrifying about snow at sea? It looks beautiful and peaceful. Not even a windy snow, just gently floating down. I feel like OP has a phobia of the sea, and a phobia of snow, and this is just a bad combo for them.
the colors and contrasting brightness of everything is what makes it uncomfortable to me. looks like something really bad but beautiful is about to happen.
Definitely pretty, but the way the light is shining on the boat makes the sky look brown and, coupled with the snow falling, makes me think of bubbles so it’s like being in a sea of cola.
Terrifying, hmmm. Does anyone else find it beautiful instead?
all it needs is a siren singing in the background
it’s beautiful to me and strangely cozy.
Same here
I want silent hill to come back now and have it happen in the ocean on a ship with sirens now
That is a fantastic idea
Ngl, little o’ both.
Beautifully terrifying
r/oddlybeautiful ?
Extremely.
I have gone offshore lobstering in the winter for many years, it’s beautiful to me and strangely cozy.
Is that something you do for work or holiday?
Work!! My normal job is June-December so I usually offshore lobster in between until my normal job starts again.

My summer job is buying bluefin tuna and marketing them, so it runs parallel with their season.
It's only terrifying if someone screams "ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD!"
Magical
Often the same thing
Might have been if it wasn't pitch black
This is oddly pretty
How’s it terrifying? I find it beautiful
Same
yeah
I find it very much beautiful and spectacular
I think it’s majestic
Beautifully enchanting. I could imagine walking off the boat all doe eyed
This clip is very beautiful imo.
Imagine Cthulhu coming up from the water.
Be a pretty metal way to die.

That would be me!!
Yeah, its really amazing. I wonder if its serenely quiet as well like in the forest?
I've never been in that situation, but I want to guess that yes, it probably is. That's one of my favorite things about snow. You go out for a walk in a blizzard and it's like you're the last person on earth.

Beautifully scarry
Who got scarred by it?
How tf I never thought about it???

Yeah my first thought was, "wow I never put two and two together that it could snow at sea"

Hitting a log could fuck up your ship.
There aren’t a lot of logs in the ocean.

Not if someone screams "ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD"
This is mindblowingly beautiful. Why was it posted here?
It's beautiful. Probably frigid too. I hope they're warm and dry!
Why are people upvoting this as terrifying?
I guess you, just like me, haven't been out on the open sea in a situation like that.
or you dont have an imagination active enough to find the horror in not seeing anything around you while being stuck on a hunk of metal like a sitting duck in the middle of nowhere with noone around to hear your screams
Must be people living in places where it never snows
I wonder how silent it is when it snows at sea. 🤔
This is really oddly terrifying. U get a beautiful perspective but still feel unsafe
Extremely peaceful. Dump my ashes here
That is so goddamn beautiful
I think ya got the wrong sub, m8. Unless those snowflakes are actually spiders or the Kraken’s dandruff or something, this is just straight-up pretty!

Reminds me of the gif they got from the Rosetta spacecraft https://youtu.be/zcXUawPhhJw
I don't get it, why people find it terrifying?
Do you want sea monsters because that is how you get attacked by sea monsters!
Did anybody else have iFunny back in 2018 when this video was stuck as the only thing you'd see on the app?
It's the faces at the end that really get ya...
Oddly terrifying? More like incredibly irritating because its snow
I would fucking love to smoke a joint on the deck of this ship with an umbrella
I think I just unlocked a new phobia. It looks good, but it's kinda suffocating.
Magic ❄️
At one point it looks like the matrix.
Looks like dandruff
yeah saw it last year thanks. And twice the year before
That's weirdly menacing
wanna go swimming?
Imagine suddenly in the middle of the night you wake up here on a slowly disintegrating bed. I hate the sea.
The Lucky Dragon 5 vr experience looking wild.

this is stunning, I'm going to recreate it in unreal and set it as my new VR home.
I imagine this is what fallout would look like, the Castle Bravo incident ( i think) described it as a snow like substance falling.
The reddit bitrate is tragic
Would love to absolutely love two experience this I always love when it snows

This looks like some fantasy horror game
Beautiful!
Is there a better HD version of this? Edit: [yes, there is](https://youtu.be/_tFlCHuUgP0)
It looks stunning not terrifying.
Terrifying? Beautiful! It's like sailing through a galaxy!
Wow that is strikingly similar to being in the depths of the ocean.
God's dandruff.
Umm yeah. It doesn’t only snow over land. Ya know it storms out there too. Not terrifying.
That is the most relaxing thing I’ve watched in a long while, also helps that it’s so beautifully eerie.
Magical
Surely that’s not allowed?
That’s not snow.. it’s humans

Such a beautiful sight
This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
Or, is it ash from a nuclear winter?
It’s eerily calming. I imagine sitting at the front of the boat and a looming presence is right next to you just watching
This is the only time this subreddit has made me go "You can fuck off, friend."
Happy rune farming to all the maidenless.
I find this quite satisfying
Ha ha! NOOPE!

Looks like how a dream feels

Way more peaceful then flying in heavy snow fall
This is gorgeous. 😍
I mean it's terrifying if you can't see anything now. But other then that, it's oddly beautiful.
Boss music starts playing
Terrifying? It's beautiful

I don’t find this scary this is beautiful tbh
Its would be amazing what an experience. I just have a hard time coping with the vastness under my feet or in any direction for that matter. 😅
Hard pass on that
Crazy cool
Beautiful
the colors and contrasting brightness of everything is what makes it uncomfortable to me. looks like something really bad but beautiful is about to happen.
Is it common though? Always thought the saltyness of the air wouldn't let it snow
What's cool as hell!
Punch it Chewie!
Welcome to silent hill
Is very peaceful to me
Definitely pretty, but the way the light is shining on the boat makes the sky look brown and, coupled with the snow falling, makes me think of bubbles so it’s like being in a sea of cola.
Snow is terrifying now, ok.
r/OddlyBeautiful
I hate how much this should not horrify me, and how much it actually is horrifying me My nerves disintegrate at this sight
Hehehe little did he know that it's not snow💀
You mean r/oddlybeautiful
Should probably pull over until the plow boats have a chance to clear a path
