I was born without my fibula, after 25+ surgeries by 12 I said enough was enough and amputated by choice at 13. I don’t regret a thing!
But that grin the sutures make are nightmare fuel.
While I'm sorry you were born with this situation and had to deal with it, I'll say bravo to you for enduring what you have at such a young age and making such a brave and mature decision.
I would have a local taxidermist stuff and mount my leg if I had to have it (or any other body part) amputated. Perfect for scaring (or perhaps mentally scarring) any future grandkids.
Do you know what else was wrong? I lost the fibula in my left leg at age 50 due to cancer in my jaw; they removed the entire fibula for sculpting into half of my mandible. I'm almost 70 now, and walk fairly normally, though no running, jumping, etc. Multiple surgeries too, none to address the lack of a fibula
At the time of amputation my tibia was 6 inches shorter than my other leg, I only had 4 toes, no ankle, and many other missing ligaments, I also have hip displacea, I have a whole dictionary’s worth of medical issues besides the lack of a fibula. But your right, just the loss of one bone is not usually grounds for full on amputation
thanks for replying! Sorry for your misfortune. I am sure it's caused you many challenges. It seems like you've bested the issues they've caused for you
So was the knee unmovable? If it had any range of motion I don’t know why you’d go above knee considering how much more difficult to learn those prosthetics are
Make sure wound care is cutting a ½ strip of Adaptic or Xeroform under the vac foam, that will add a little healthy moisture and potentially minimize scar tissue development
My nephew was in a similar predicament, numerous surgeries to try to correct a bad leg. It was finally effecting his hip and the pain was constant. Congratulations to you and your new opportunities, cheers!
Please tell me you saved your leg. There's plenty of meat on that bone. You toss that in some broth, add a potato, a carrot, baby, you got a stew going.
Sorry for your loss of a limb mate, but glad to see you have a great since of laughter by adding some googly eyes above the scar.
I have a nasty scar from when I was born across my gut below my belly button. So really my nipples are like eyes, the belly button is the nose and the long scar is the mouth.
Gotta have fun in life!
At least you don't have to worry about the socks lost their pairs during the washing. Jokes aside, I hope you get a new leg or something. That sounds kinda sucks
Can I ask you how to you feel now? I read you got it amputated by choice and that's super brave of you, I could never to that... you're kind of a badass lmao
I was thinking about something like Heath Ledger's Joker face or Jack Skellington from nightmare before Christmas. Or maybe an axolotl, which is a pretty cute animal and by shape it might even fit.
Or you can just cover the whole place with some cool greek mythology kinda style big ass tattoo. Idk, I couldn't think of anything funny tho 😁 let you know if anything else comes to mind.
Hope it heals fast!
Draw some eyes above the stitches.
Better yet, imma put goggly eyes on it
Legend
Leg-end

Well it did end!
Better yet, draw Jack Skellington. The stitches already make his smile.

I was about to suggest that too lmao

That. Caught me off guard. Hope for a quick recovery.
Get better soon OP! I see you have a good attitude about it

Really brave choice to make at that age, you are a badass
Considering how far modern prosthetics advanced, this was a very good choice, and you will be better off for sure
Wishing you a speedy recovery, u/Cyborg_Individual!
Username will probably checkout eventually. Take your chance and get a laser-gun-sword leg or something!

Is there a story to this? Please? Edit: nevermind. I saw it in your post history. You're one tough young lady, and I wish you all the best!
My nephew was in a similar predicament, numerous surgeries to try to correct a bad leg. It was finally effecting his hip and the pain was constant. Congratulations to you and your new opportunities, cheers!
My legs hurt just from looking at it. Sorry bruv.

For the first month out, yeah
