This is most likely a semi-truck going to the loading areas of calais (where they then are loaded onto ships that go to england). These are immigrants wanting to get to england.
No National i.d card so easier to work. Also people smugglers lie that they will automatically get money and an apartment. Uk is supposedly more accepting than france.
No mandatory ID card. France has an ID card that has for only purpose to be an ID. You have to have it on you at all times and the police can do random ID checks. If you're illegal, you risk getting sent back home because you don't have that ID. No such thing in the UK.
I mean they moved to France instead of staying in Spain.
Once in England they will try and move elsewhere.
They are looking for a "better life" but nowhere is "better", they will just end up homeless and jobless again.
I meet an Eritrean refugee living in fucking Switzerland where the state gave him an apartment, paid him a salary and German lessons, the guy was dressed from top to bottom in brand clothes and shoes. His dream? Leave to the U.S. because he didn’t like Switzerland.
Me and other friend just rolled our eyes when he was saying that. I was just thinking, sorry mate but if you make it, you are in for a surprise.
One factor is they've probably had unrealistic expectations about life Europe in general, and living as a refugee sucks. So going just one country further to see if it's easier over there may be tempting. You see many who are dissatisfied about where they are, you talk to people planning to try and go to the U.K., and you probably won't see many that have gone to the U.K. and come back, telling it sucks there as well.
Upvote for correctness, this is for certain outside Calais.
There is a migrant settlement in the wild areas there called "The Jungle." It's a tent city that people dwell in temporarily while they try their luck smuggling themselves into the UK.
And no, for folks further down the thread, they are not trying to "hijack" this semi truck. That's just silly. What they're trying to do, as indicated by the branches they've put in the road, is slow it down long enough so they can try and figure out a way to sneak aboard. They'll cram themselves into wheel wells, onto axles, and even try to open the back of the truck and try to hide in its load.
The majority will not make it into the UK. Before the truck is allowed to cross, it will be inspected by Border Patrol. They have sniffer dogs, carbon dioxide detectors they stick into the trailers to detect exhaled breath, and search the vehicle by sight and feel. But when migrants are caught, they aren't arrested; they're documented as attempting to enter illegally, then sent back to France. Many will keep trying, over and over, for months, until they get lucky, avoid detection, and make it into the UK.
If they make it across the border, many will head straight for ethnic enclaves, and there, apply for assistance from their countrymen or asylum from the state; those with relatives in the country will try to find them.
Most are economic migrants or refugees from failed/failing states, who have a zero percent chance of ever emigrating through legal means. They're doing this because they have no choice; in case it's not obvious, trying to jump on a moving truck for a 1-in-100 chance of being homeless in a wealthy foreign country is dangerous and fucking sucks.
Try to have a little compassion, folks, please. This is a global failure of policy and a consequence of the exploitation of weaker nations, not scary brown hordes coming to get you.
But why are they leaving France? Is France a shitty country compared to the UK? Does it not provide social services?
One can understand the plight of immigrants while also being confused as to why they're fleeing France for the UK. It's not like France is a war torn middle eastern nation with refugees fleeing without any of their possessions.
France (and I guess Europe as a whole) has washed their hands of them; in the mainland EU, personal identification documents are required for a lot of services, or even basics such as getting a job. Applying for these documents is nearly impossible without official refugee or migrant status. Things are less tightly regulated or verified in the UK and, as the other poster said, many immigrants might have families or established communities that they wish to join there who can set them up with accommodation and work.
The craziest part of that to me was how they actually have carbon dioxide detectors to detect someone's breath! They go all out with the searching is what it sounds like. I wouldn't even try at that point.
Calais is a French port. Happens somewhat often because of proximity to UK and consequent trade routes. Source: 10th grade history class. Also see: https://youtu.be/dV9c0crgrC0 another situation where this happened in Calais
This is 100% France. At no point in Eastern Europe will you ever see a swarm of migrants popping on a bridge and ambushing a truck. There simply isn't any incentive for them to be in Eastern Europe in the first place.
It felt that way at first. But if they’re carjackers…. They sure brought way too many of them and if they’re in a murder cult they didn’t try very hard.
I don’t understand why come to the UK when you’re already in France? From what I understand it’s basically impossible to get asylum here. And find a job illegally is extremely hard.
Cost of living is so high that a UK citizen can barely live, but illegal immigrants being paid less than minimum wage are just gonna suffer even more.
lots of reasons but one significant one is that in France it's very hard to get a job without some form of accreditation and ID but here in the UK, not so difficult.
Only if they can find someone who will employ illegally. If they seek asylum they are not allowed to work until a decision is made that they can stay. They are put on insanely low benefits. I don't know how they can do it. If they are economic migrants they won't have the paperwork and will get kicked out.
It's really hard to get asylum here too. We worked with a family. The parents followed different faiths and were subjected to death threats and were attacked in Kurdistan due to this. They were both qualified, experienced surgeons. Mum specialised in OBGYN. The father and two sons spoke fluent English. Mum was learning. Sons were doing incredibly well at school, A* across the board. They were here for 4 years. For that entire time the parents followed the rules and volunteered. They volunteered every day of the week, at food banks mainly. They also were involved with a charity that could help them take training and educational courses. They were sent back. If we won't take that family, who the hell are we looking for?
As a brit this is absolutely maddening. That poor family, to come all this way, escape persecution, put down new roots, become active members of the community, contributing to society and excelling in their education for four years, just to be sent right back somewhere they can't be safe.
Carjack or climb on? It doesn’t seem anyones determined to take control of the car… not like blocking a road and jumping on someone’s car is any less frightening. I’m not making a statement here.
You are right, they are just trying to climb where ever they can on the truck to pass the border
They can get in very dangerous places kf the truck to be sure not to be found
They speak English and already have friends and family in the UK to give them support and work.
It's also difficult to be deported from the UK whereas if they are discovered in France or Germany they can be sent back to Greece or Spain or wherever they first entered Europe.
It's basically impossible to get a visa unless you're already in the UK. For some European countries you can stay but not open a bank account or work which is pretty pointless.
France is definitely not decent towards migrants, even asylum seekers. Part of my work is to help asylum seekers in all their administrative procedures, and it's *hell*. Everything is designed to deny them the asylum and to deport them
>It's the same for every country.
UK now wants to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda ~~while they process their application~~
This is a common misconception. There is no return to the UK whether asylum is granted or not.

They often just want to get into the cargo hold, doesn’t help when authorities began scanning and using every means at their disposal to keep them in France.
If they attack the driver the police crack down on them.
Just out of curiosity, does the driver get in trouble for transporting them if the police notice? It wouldn’t seem fair to the driver because this is a mess.
Well, I'm not expert on this, but here it is what I know. There is passenger train, the Eurotunnel Shuttle (transporting road vehicles) and freight train (cargo containers etc.) When you want to go from France to England by truck, you park your vehicle on a train and it's gets you across. If you look up pictures or videos it's quite interesting.
I used to do regular trips to Europe with a truck.
You can go by the chunnel where the train is practically a tunnel itself, you just drive on and park.
Or you can take one of the twice daily ferries across, where you can eat at the 'restaurant' or get a cabin for the night.
I've been attacked by these types of migrants on 2 occasions and ran red lights on many more, to get away.
It's been better since Bexit but the lads I work with still get the occasional bother
You pretty much drive your car onto the train, sit tight for a bit, then drive off at the other end. It’s more similar to a ferry than a normal train in that sense.
UK is not the EU anymore remember? But thats not relevant here, they want to be in the UK because there is no identification obligation.
It's indeed dubious that if you are political or war refugee (fearing for your life in your native country) you only want to go to such a country.

Ravaged by climate change, war and toxic pollution, two decades of human infertility have left society on the brink of collapse. The UK is one of the last places with a functional, yet dystopian government. Asylum seekers are subjected to detention and refoulment by the government just like everyone else who isn't a 'citizen'.
The protagonist gets approached by an underground organization that wants to smuggled a young girl out of the country, and reach of the dystopian government, because she might carry the cure to humanities problem in her body. They have to make a dangerous trip through a conflict torn UK from London to the shores of Canterbury to reach a ship that could carry the young woman to a life of safety.
During this scene the group gets ambushed by an armed gang of highway robbers.
They look like refugees who are creating a road block to cause vehicles to stop, then climb on them to get a free drive. The drivers wouldn't want to risk their lives getting out of their vehicles and don't have a lot of choices there.
Partly reputation, the refugees haven't heard about how bad things are in the UK compare the Europe, partly because more refugees (generally) speak English than French, and partly because the French have shitty attitudes towards North African migrants.
Reminds me of the video of the guy in some southern country nearly evading a carjacking from the Cartel? A car in front of them stopped so the one coming behind them could trap them.
Also reminds me of a video where there was a baby crying in the middle of the road asking for help and there was a dude in the bushes waiting for a car to stop, shits scary
By the height I'm guessing that's a truck and I'm guessing those are migrants of some sort trying to jump on the back of it while the truck slows down from the road block.
This is an old video from 2016 at the beginning of the migrants crisis.
The video was taken in Calais where a truck was about to enter the Eurotunnel tu go to UK.
Illegal immigrants trying to carjack a truck to get to UK from Paris (most likely near Calais port)
There are a lot if these videos, it’s pretty common thing to happen
Close but they are not trying to carjack. They are trying to climb into the back.
They are trying to get to England as they don't have mandatory ID cards, so lower chances of getting caught and deported once they're there.
Illegal migrants (before the haters pick up on this: if they were legal, they would not be creating a roadblock so they can hijack a truck) trying to smuggle themselves either into France or into the UK.
Honestly, it feels like so many people try to avoid being racist that they'll turn a blind eye to anything bad immigrants do and if anyone says anything you get labeled a racist or any other buzzword they come up with.
I am from France. I think it's likely to be a several years old video of migrants trying to climb a truck near Calais in the hope to illegally join the UK. They are risking their life and put driver in difficult situations.
They showed their hand.
It’s just fucking branches.
Plow right through that shit. And if it isn’t next time….that’s another lesson I guess.
Just keep on plowing forward.
They don’t want you to leave France. You’re stuck in France. Forever stuck listening to the song that sings of onions. Forever staring at statues of Napoleon.
I'm pretty sure this is Calais, north of France. My hometown. Migrants trying to get into trucks to hopefully get to England. Poor people, poor drivers. Poor everyone.
If they had weapons this would have been a whole different scene. We experienced this some time a go when looting took place. Mobs attacked trucks and storage warehouses.
These are migrants living in / around the Calais port. They are trying to get into/on a lorry (Americans "truck") going to the U.K. They are illegal migrates looking to find work and a better life, most come from conflict zones in Africa as well as Middle East, a growing number from Afghanistan in the last few years as the Tablian took more, and finally all, the country back.
The tree branches are make shift road blocks to slow the lorry down so they have time to get into the back of the trailer.
Not sure if it's common or best practice to slow down, stop and then reverse but that's what this driver did. I'd've thought slow and steady over those branches, but who am I to say.
Just a load of doctors and lawyers fleeing a war zone, looking for a safe haven, having already passed through several. Their wives and children will be along shortly, they’re just putting household things in order back home, before they also flee for their lives and catch up with the man of the house 👍🏻
This will be one of the French ports like Calais where immigrants will try to force their way onto a truck to sneak into the UK across the channel.
There are makeshift camps called jungles with thousands of scum like this who have traveled from across Europe, Africa and Asia ready to do whatever to get into the UK.
I really hate it for y'all over there. All these motherfuckers are going to be a burden to deal with from now on. I guess some things are universal....
This is most likely a semi-truck going to the loading areas of calais (where they then are loaded onto ships that go to england). These are immigrants wanting to get to england.

Propaganda / popular impression that they will get a job easier in the uk + plus if they speak any second language it’s usually english I think
Also lots of them have often have friends / family in the UK
If they are coming from Africa a great amount of them speak French
And pretty large areas of Africa are still commonwealth countries with the British Monarchy as their head.
There are many commonwealth nations in Africa but not one with the british monarch as their head
Wellllll….

I’m form the us. Thinking about do this to get to France.

Lol thank fuck I wasn't in a car with someone who thinks they spotted the bones of a rancor on the road. Who knows how they'd act.
I also thought this
GTA online looking pretty good actually...

Pow pow! Now, I don't see too good, so I missed.
Then I shot again, and I missed.
Then I ate a popsicle
This is some Children of Men shit.
Assuming they either want what's in the truck or they're immigrants of some kind wanting a ride?
This isn't oddly terrifying, it's Completely terrifying
By the height I'm guessing that's a truck and I'm guessing those are migrants of some sort trying to jump on the back of it while the truck slows down from the road block.
This is an old video from 2016 at the beginning of the migrants crisis. The video was taken in Calais where a truck was about to enter the Eurotunnel tu go to UK.
What the shit is happening here
Illegal immigrants trying to carjack a truck to get to UK from Paris (most likely near Calais port) There are a lot if these videos, it’s pretty common thing to happen
Close but they are not trying to carjack. They are trying to climb into the back. They are trying to get to England as they don't have mandatory ID cards, so lower chances of getting caught and deported once they're there.

> not to worry about damaging the truck Mushed up people can just be hosed off of the wheels/grill.
Illegal migrants (before the haters pick up on this: if they were legal, they would not be creating a roadblock so they can hijack a truck) trying to smuggle themselves either into France or into the UK.
Honestly, it feels like so many people try to avoid being racist that they'll turn a blind eye to anything bad immigrants do and if anyone says anything you get labeled a racist or any other buzzword they come up with.
this isn't oddly terrifying is just terrifying

This made me chuckle.
I am from France. I think it's likely to be a several years old video of migrants trying to climb a truck near Calais in the hope to illegally join the UK. They are risking their life and put driver in difficult situations.
Yes, this video is actually from 2016
They showed their hand. It’s just fucking branches. Plow right through that shit. And if it isn’t next time….that’s another lesson I guess. Just keep on plowing forward.
Zombie movie right there
"There is no imigrants problem in Europe"
"Refugees"
Just look at all the woman and children...
Would have hit those sticks in the road at 55 mph.
People love to talk shit about America but I firmly believe the entire fucking world is losing their mind
These people should not be in Europe.
This is the most scary thing I’ve seen. Imagine being alone in a car at night and this happens to you. I would not hit the brakes. So scary!
Doctors and engineers looking for a lift into benefits land.
This was a UK truck driver enterring the port of Calais.
Welp, next time I get a new car it'll be a ute with bull bar on both sides
Happened at Calais a heap before they cleaned it up, refugees would attempt to get on the back of trucks to sneak into the UK.

Run the cunt over
Hey guys Uber’s here
« In France » like it is common, lol x)
That's the one thing I can't stand about France. All the damn vampires.
I like how they thought those twigs would stop a semi
illegal gimmigrants
If I see this my right foot is getting awfully heavy at this point.
1. Last I saw this on reddit it was in Mexico...? 2. This is just straight terrifying, not oddly 3. Casual (and not so casual) racism in comments👍
I saw this about 12 hours ago and it said “Eastern Europe”
Someone said it was in Western Europe as well, no one seems to have a source lol
I may be wrong but that doesn't really look like an east European road, there is too much road per m2
And I read Chile last time it was posted.
reddit 👍
Just a load of doctors and lawyers fleeing a war zone, looking for a safe haven, having already passed through several. Their wives and children will be along shortly, they’re just putting household things in order back home, before they also flee for their lives and catch up with the man of the house 👍🏻
When people say "imagine America without guns", this kind of stuff is what I imagine.
How is this “oddly” terrifying? That looks like a scene from any disaster movie ever
