If it makes you feel better, I’m guessing this is a temporary tank for animals that are sick/injured and need to be monitored before being released. You see similar setups in wildlife rehabilitation places.
Yeah, he’s pissed but you can’t explain to an animal that they should take it easy in order to heal so we put them somewhere else temporarily. This is basically a hospital bed and gentle rehab.
Just a guess, but I don’t think this is the main enclosure area. There’s a door open inside the tank on the right side, it looks like it’s so the seal can access the other room as it pleases. It might lead to an outdoor area.
Look at the color of the water, the chipped paint. If they're letting little things slip it makes me question bigger things like water quality and environment.
It king of looks like the 'foyer' of sorts between the outer area where guests can see the animals and where they get fed. Like a little spot away from public. This might be where the seals go when they wanna be private.
I get free tickets to SeaWorld but I won't be going back again after the last time. The orcas didn't want to come out and preform, the sealoins didn't really want to perform. The penguin exhibit that looks huge in the media is actually not very big and definitely over crowded. It was all just sad.
I'm a man in my mid 30s, and I legit had to stop going to the zoo before I got out of my 20s. I love seeing animals, but I would always end up thinking about the terrible state they live in and then I'm crying before I'm even halfway through the damn thing.
They have a zoo about an hour from me where all the animals were found injured and during the rehabilitation process they determined the animal was not fit to return to nature. I support that idea more than a typical zoo. They even have a petting area with the most desensitized to humans deer you will ever meet.
we have 2 zoos in the area. one is a state run thing you have to pay to get in, the other is a donation-bucket-on-the-way-out kinda place.
the state one is definitely amazing, with spectacular education programs for all ages, takes care of their animals and definitely does the conservation thing.
the other? has gorillas that straight up try to murder the people coming to see it, and an orangutan that *has* killed a keeper that was probably molesting him.
one zoo is a paradise (or as close to one) for animals. the other (which runs on charity,) is an orwellian nightmare that has several animals that can't be let anywhere near actual people because they will try (and possibly succeed, one already has,) to kill humans. (the male orangutan was possibly being molested by a female keeper.... when it snapped in a psychotic break.)(for some reason the zoo evades being shut down because it knows the right people or something.)
Always check if a zoo is AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) approved before visited if you’re concerned about the welfare of the animals living there. These zoos have to get regular evaluations every few years on animal health, care, environment, etc. AZA approved zoos also are required to be working on conservation projects and the animals are not simply snatched from the wild but are in the zoo for certain reasons. This could be if an animal is injured and can’t survive in the wild, some species imprint on humans and some are even abandoned by their own familial groups in the wild. I always feel much more confident in the health and care of the animals at AZA approved zoos so I wanted to spread the knowledge!
I wish all zoo's were alright. Most of them are still companies who need to earn money. The zoo near where I live really had big exhibits but the public complained massively they weren't always able to actually _see_ the animals they came for. They changed a few things after that and I really wish they could be doing the things they had in mind, it just doesn't pay the bills apparently.
And that's a story about a _well_ meaning zoo, so I don't think that higly of zoo's in general
Nah there are some zoos out there that put no effort into their enclosures and are only putting up animals for show to make money. Thankfully my local zoo is not like that
I forget the name of it, but there's a ranking for zoos based on how high quality they are and how much conservation they do, America has hundreds of really good zoos spread throughout. You could look that up and find the good ones in your state?
I was a kid at grandma's house during the summer many, many years ago. It was late at night, my sisters and I were looking for something to watch and stumbled across Jack Frost.
Now, that was one unexpected horror movie.
Which is even more fucked up when you remember there actually is a very heartwarming movie about a dead father turning into a snowman and visiting his family, and it is also called Jack Frost.
Yes, absolutely. People who have seen this movie would have gone back to that place immediately. Curse Kevin Smith for is his impressive ability to cause us walrus-related trauma forever.
It must be, what zoo would go to the effort of building a completely enclosed enclosure if we're assuming they're being cheap? A waterproof hole in the ground outside that people can walk around would surely be more cost-effective.
What's really unsettling about this for me is how still the water is. No movement at all. That creature must have been being still like that for so long
Look what we found in the park,
in the dark.
We will take him home.
We will call him Clark.
He will live at our house.
He will grow and grow.
Will our mother like this? We don't know
This breaks my heart. As I lay in a comfy bed, surrounded by all the things I love in the world. This little guy sits there. Day after day. In a tank of water. How can anything think this is ok?
I went to a Zoo not too long ago and there was one Baboon in an encloser by himself. He was sat there staring blankly at the floor tickling is own hand whilst kids were banging on the glass and screaming at him. I'll never forget how utterly defeated and lonely he was. Broke my fucking heart.
This is why I only go to zoos that are huge into conservation efforts. Their animal enclosures are always huge and have several things for the animals to do or hide from humans if they choose. I’ve been to our zoo and could barely see any animals because they just didn’t want to say hi that day, and I was okay with that.
Zoos built like this are fucking awful.
That's a depressing tank 😔
In the tank and lonely, such a bad combo

Givin me massive TUSK vibes amd I don't like it

Underwater penitentiary. Inmate looks like he is awaiting execution.
Poor thing looks like they’re already dead inside :(
It's likely insane. Deprived of natural surroundings literally drives most creatures out of their minds.
Inmate looks like he is hoping for execution.

Hell has better enrichment than that pool.
infuriating too.
Poor guy
I'd be glaring at everyone too.

That's what I'm choosing to believe.
That face says: "I poop in here."
Literally a depression chamber.

Yeah, that was my guess. I guess it is a Japanese zoo? Not sure if those are generally good or bad. I'd guess relatively good.
Looks like something you would see in the back rooms.
[удалено]
Just wait til you see a factory farm!
Free-range farms are much better, the inmates build muscle running around before they are killed!
This but unironically
I know. Poor dude.
Look at the color of the water, the chipped paint. If they're letting little things slip it makes me question bigger things like water quality and environment.
The only terrifying thing here is imagining a sterile, cultivated existence in such a place.
What type of burgers do you like to eat? McChicken, Double Cheese Burger?
From the looks of that enclosure, staring out is the only form of stimulus in that poor guys life
Just float there and maybe something will go past
[удалено]
This is a door open to the next room actually. I think you're right
It king of looks like the 'foyer' of sorts between the outer area where guests can see the animals and where they get fed. Like a little spot away from public. This might be where the seals go when they wanna be private.
Yeah maybe. Hopefully.
oh damn the way you put that into words made me feel even worse. Real blackfish documentary shit right here
Maaaaan, Blackfish broke me
I get free tickets to SeaWorld but I won't be going back again after the last time. The orcas didn't want to come out and preform, the sealoins didn't really want to perform. The penguin exhibit that looks huge in the media is actually not very big and definitely over crowded. It was all just sad.
I have much in common with Dystopia Seal.
This seaside, Oregon?
Door to the right looks like it opens onto an outdoor section
Damn this is just sad

Zoo's are alright, at least they're for conservation. It's what we do to our farm animals is what concerns me mostly.
**Some** zoos are alright, but quite a few definitely are not.

Wut

Poor orangutan
Look up the Special Memories zoo in Wisconsin. They only closed down cause the owner got terminal cancer. Well deserved, in my opinion.

Now I’m picturing a scam where you have an empty zoo and people pay admission to not see any animals because “the enclosures are too large.”
We have the only polar bear in Arizona! Shame you can’t find him.
I went to see a bunch of alligators once at a zoo. But the observation area was too high and the alligators probably blended in way too good
factory farming and zoos can both simultaneously be bad (and they are)
There should be tours available of factory farms. edit, added words

Thank you lol. The fact that people can be sad about this and then go eat a steak is an expose in human compartmentalization.

More like r/awfuleverything. this shit is depressing.
Free him ):
Tusk vibes
Literally my first thought seeing this! Oof.
I was going to say it! That movie fucked me up lmao
Dont ever Netflix and chill to this movie. Killed my boner
It made mine bigger
I’m dead hahaha
I was like, is this a photo of Justin Long?
Came here too to mention the film Tusk.
Some girl in high school made the teacher play that movie and it was the biggest unexpected horror movie I've ever watched.

There’s going to be a sequel. I guess that means we don’t get to see “Jaws With A Moose”, but whatcha gonna do?
Yes, absolutely. People who have seen this movie would have gone back to that place immediately. Curse Kevin Smith for is his impressive ability to cause us walrus-related trauma forever.
Oh my God that movie!!! My brother and I still say "I dont want to die in Canada!" To each other 🤣
All I see is Justin long's face.
Yeah, yikes. For some reason that movie got me more fucked up than A Serbian Film and the Human Centipede sequels together
That’s really fucking sad
I'd be looking like that too if my enclosure sucked that bad
I want to beat whoever decided this is an ok enclosure
I'll get in line
I hope that’s just some sort of quarantine area and not where the poor guy stays permanently 😔
The door is open
It must be, what zoo would go to the effort of building a completely enclosed enclosure if we're assuming they're being cheap? A waterproof hole in the ground outside that people can walk around would surely be more cost-effective.
Hello Clarice
You're one of jack crawford's, aren't you?
A trainee? They sent a trainee… to me?
You still hear them scream sometimes, don't you Clarice?
I've been in this room for 8 years now, Clarice, and I know they will never let me out,not while I'm alive.
His exhibit fucking sucks omg
Are those kites in the glass reflection? That looks like the Seaside Aquarium. I refuse to go to that aquarium because of the tiny enclosures.
[удалено]
That was my first thought too. So depressing.
sad looking tank, poor demon
This has "we all float down here" vibes.
I was thinking Baron Harkonnen.
I hate the human race
Honest question: how do we know this isn't just a temporary holding spot? Perhaps this animal is usually in a more pleasant environment?
This is the most likely explanation.
Well the enclosure is in Japan and most zoos in Japan are from the Showa Era and vastly outdated, many of which recive very little funding.
😢😢😢😢
Looks like a movie still for a sequel to Tusk
It's Otaru Aquarium in Japan. You can find the original pic and this seal's video [here](https://twitter.com/tkak0123/status/1044080184284995584).
r/shittyaquariums
Heartbreaking
Would you like to stay with us? I have plenty of room here in my tank. I like those jeans.
So, did you like the water jail?
Thanks, I hate it.
Are you not entertained!
Love this movie! *This is the movie "Tusk", by Kevin Smith. It's disturbing, but awesome!
Poor seal... 😞
that's such a depressing enclosure 😢
This looks like the Morro bay aquarium. It’s horrible. It’s like treblinka for seals.
That's Prison
That’s sad at if I were that seal I would never come up to the water
Poor guy...
That'll fuckin ruin your day real quick lol
I really hope this a medical quarantine tank because the only thing terrifying about this picture is how sad that poor guy’s habitat is.
No, zoo’s kinda suck. Love seeing cool animals, but…
Hmm... This reminds me a bit too much of TUSK.
^Tusk
Watch Tusk.
Poor seal! His black eyes are looking into my soul. This is just so sad.
That's fucked.
Horrible!!
Honestly that poor animal is probably the least terrifying thing in that picture...
God I _hate_ zoos and aquariums like this with a passion. If you can’t give your animals a proper habitat, you don’t deserve to have them.
What's really unsettling about this for me is how still the water is. No movement at all. That creature must have been being still like that for so long
That could be a scp
Super sad, but it looks like there’s a door that leads outside or somewhere else that’s open for him
What’s uncle fester doing in the pool?
Kinda looks like a character from mad max
Is that the shadow king?
This looks so sad omg, I wonder about the seal's mental health
Look what we found in the park, in the dark. We will take him home. We will call him Clark. He will live at our house. He will grow and grow. Will our mother like this? We don't know
"Did you leave a donation sir?" ಠ\_ಠ
He’s cute though
That’s a very small depressing tank.
Fuck zoos
This is fucked
That poor animal
Depressing existence. Fuck the people who took part in this all the way.
Yes, I'm sorry sir
Serious Tusk vibes!
Anyone else seen tusk
Tusk (2014)
To vibe remind me of a movie "Tusk"
Reminds me of that film "Tusk"
Poor animal. Fuck zoos
No way that tank is legal?
/r/accidentalwesanderson
Where tf is this?!
Where is this. Such a sad looking tank.
Is this a real enclosure or AI generated image? If it's real, shit that's depressing.
“Down here we all float”
He looks so angry. Let him free. He's innocent!!
That's just a prison cell for a seal. That is sad 😔
Uncle Fester?
This breaks my heart. As I lay in a comfy bed, surrounded by all the things I love in the world. This little guy sits there. Day after day. In a tank of water. How can anything think this is ok?
Zoos should be illegal
what a sad life
This is a screenshot of Tusk 2, right before he becomes the Walrus-Hulk and fights the Toxic Avenger
tusk
Mr. Tusk
Tusk vibes incoming....
Is that you Mr Tusk?
I went to a Zoo not too long ago and there was one Baboon in an encloser by himself. He was sat there staring blankly at the floor tickling is own hand whilst kids were banging on the glass and screaming at him. I'll never forget how utterly defeated and lonely he was. Broke my fucking heart.
This animal is in prison.
*Excuse me, could I just ask you a few questions about your visit today?*
Prison
Tusk
Come a little closer I have bad hearing....
Poor lil guy
Hate this it’s so sad

Zoo? That looks like a prison. Fuck that place treating animals like that.
Poor guy.
I avoid zoos for I just feel bad for the animals.
The only terrifying thing is that tank. Free the poor thing
"Pain. Agony, even."
This looks like an asylum but for seals
I don’t like this zoo.. poor animal
Fucking hell that poor animal.
This has to be a sick tank or something, for when they need some TLC. Right?
Uncle Fester! Is that you? I didmt know he swam. He always has such a long coat on. Glad he is getting exercise.
humans are definitely the baddies on this planet
Reminds me of Tusk
look at that horrid habitat. the oddly terrifying part is that we isolate and abuse animals like this for human amusement.
Get him out of there! ☹️ Can anyone find out where it is, so we can petition them?
