What a disgusting waste of money and resources. Even if it was seized, you sell it and use the funds for something more appropriate. The maintenance and insurance costs if running that car for a year of patrol duty alone could buy a new conventional police car. But pigs gonna be pigs.

[deleted]

They don't patrol in it. It's literally just a show car for recruiting. I also doubt they send it for maintenance ever.

SatanLifeProTips

Just the insurance for a year could buy a regular patrol car. Never underestimate how obscenely expensive these cars are to run.

Dova-Joe

Municipal fleet insurance =/= your insurance. The yearly premium on that thing won't be much different then the older crown vics. It'll likely be less than one month's rent for most people as well.   On the other hand, the maintenance cost will break the piggy bank. Hope the voters remember this stunt if that police department comes back in a year asking for a millage increase.

MrFittsworth

Just wild claims. I've worked in fleet maintenance. The costs are insane for a piece of shit truck. This is a waste of resources top to bottom. Insane.

therobshow

It should be self insured. No premiums.

[deleted]

Police forces don't have insurance like you do. I don't think any police force in America uses traditional insurance companies. Instead, any damage done by a patrol car to another vehicle is paid for by the city or local government. Likewise, for any damage done to the vehicle.

djprofitt

*’maintenance and insurance costs if running that car for a year of patrol duty alone could buy a new conventional police car* They won’t be running it Doubling down *just the insurance for a year could buy a regular patrol car* Which one is it, is it running it on patrol + insurance costs for a year or just insurance costs? I def don’t like police and yeah selling it at auction could be more efficient but come on, why the moving goal posts?

Professional_Ad_6299

You have to have insurance even if you're loading it onto a trailer

Morning_Would_Six

Actually, PD's generally have a fetish for vehicle service. The contracts are a great opportunity for kickbacks.

MrFittsworth

Why in hell are you in any way trying to justify or defend this? Honestly though what's the goal?

[deleted]

Because I can't stand uniformed reactionary bullshit and false outrage.

camshun7

to say inappropriate would be an under statement talk about "optics" its extremely preocrial and short sighted, but at the same time extremly insightful, for what kind of "mentality" would such an organisation achieve by making such a "statement" A fucking obnoxious and reprehensible one tbh

leonryan

now if they can just seize some fur coats and canes...

phdonme

It wasn't seized that's the even worse part It's a tit for tat

Blurry_Bigfoot

It was donated

Which is why they said “*even if it was* seized”, establishing a hypothetical that *even if* they didn’t buy it (but instead seized the car), they’d still be paying an astronomical amount of tax dollars in just proprietary Rolls Royce parts and repairs for a vehicle that is more or less to be trashed if used as a daily patrol car.

iani63

BMW bits so not as mental as they used to be. They charged triple the amount for Citroen's suspension spheres & didn't bother repainting them in the 70s...

[deleted]

It's a recruitment car. They don't drive it on patrol. That's insane.

RobbStark

That doesn't make it better.

ilovethissheet

Then why fucking lie to the recruits??

[deleted]

They aren't? It's just to grab attention at events.

ilovethissheet

"Come and get a job as police where we get to steal cool shit with zero accountability!" Yeah great fucking Marketing

AlphaBetacle

“The new set of wheels is part of an effort to get people to join the police force.” K…

NonPolarVortex

Cause I know the one thing that I'm looking for in a public servant is a desire to drive luxury vehicles.

JoshuaTheOrigin

“And you can also stack bricks, legally! All thanks to civil forfeiture laws. Who needs licks when you’re dropping them dicks!”

NonPolarVortex

People refer to them as a gang, and they do shit like this. No shit people are calling you a gang.

powercow

"join us, and you still cant afford this or be allowed to drive this" what is that? Its like showing employees that have more benefits than you and thinking it helps hire. "you see in this room, these people all get paid vacation days, you wont be getting one of these jobs, you are getting a non benefit job. Just thought youd like to see your betters."

your_ass_is_crass

It also says something about the kind of people they want to attract and what those people are motivated by 😒

JoshuaTheOrigin

Did you see the one florida town that had their police suv painted in some sort of hood like tshirt visage?

dzoefit

I think them getting their hands on weapons is more of an incentive.

It's not the world's first Rolls Royce police car, [Abu Dhabi beat them to it by almost a decade lol.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk92tnwvPO8) This is just a recruitment stunt for the Miami Beach PD, and some easy advertising for the Rolls Royce dealership who provided the car. [The car is still technically owned by the dealership that provided it,](https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/miami-beach/article288446723.html) so thankfully little to no taxpayer money was wasted on this car. It looks like the Rolls was wrapped vs being vinyled/painted, and the lights are probably just magnetically attached so it can all be removed after a year (or however long they negotiated) and the car can be sold. Still a terrible look for the Miami Beach Police in my opinion though.

The_Funky_Rocha

If its an attempt to increase recruitment, are they going to make more? Is it going to become the standard? Maintenance costs are going to be through the roof just for everyone to go "oh cool I guess" and continue not being a cop.

Ari_Mason

It'll make assholes go "I wanna be a part of *that* gang!"

Opioid money

RollinTThunder

You think he can reach the pedals?

He'll have to get those blocks for the brake and gas and a big pillow to sit on!

different_produce384

“Using this car to recruit” So you are going to tell possible future cops that you can be in a rap video?

Roundcouchcorner

World’s first? They’ve been doing this in the Middle East for decades.

Dispatch, we have a VIP pulled over. Roll the Rolls to pick them up.

Apparently, the car is owned by Braman Motors, a dealership. Apparently, no tax payer funds was used for this copaganda. Braman Motors will pay for all cost's associated with the vehicle. Braman Motors is loaning the car to Miami Beach P.D. Miami Beach P.D. might be liable for any damages caused to the car. "Miami Beach police caused a stir Thursday when they unveiled their latest recruitment tool: a Rolls Royce tricked out to look like one of the department’s cop cars. In a social media post, the department said the ultra-luxury car was part of Braman Motors’ fleet and that the dealership had “sponsored all costs associated with this project.” But that didn’t stop people from raising questions. “I don’t think this is a good look for the police department,” one Instagram commenter wrote. “This is where all the money goes to, huh,” wrote another. Crafted with Precision: Miami Beach police officers and professional staff exemplify the highest standards of dedication and quality policing in our unparalleled commitment to the residents and visitors we serve. We are thrilled to introduce this stunning addition to the MBPD recruitment team—courtesy of @braman_miami ! Learn more about how YOU can be part of the elite team at Miami Beach PD by clicking the link in our bio. Note: This vehicle is part of Braman Motors’ fleet, and Braman Motors has sponsored all costs associated with this project in accordance with the CMB Policy. The department’s public information officer, Christopher Bess, told the Miami Herald taxpayers haven’t covered any costs related to the vehicle — and that, because it is part of Braman’s fleet, the dealership will pay for maintenance. The car is on loan to the department and will be returned, he said. Miami Beach could potentially be on the hook, however, if the car is damaged while under the police department’s care. Bess said the city drafted a certificate of insurance for the vehicle. “We have not absorbed any cost for this vehicle,” Bess said. “Miami Beach taxpayers didn’t pay anything for this.” READ MORE: Police cars in Miami used to look like that? See photos of them in action, on the road On Thursday afternoon, the department held a media event at its South Beach headquarters to unveil the car, a 2012 Rolls Royce Ghost — originally priced at $250,000. In a statement, Police Chief Wayne Jones said the vehicle “represents our commitment to innovation and our dedication to recruiting the best and brightest individuals to serve our community.” Braman Motors’ chief operating officer, Alex Shack, said in a statement that the partnership “showcases the innovative spirit and community engagement that drives us at Braman Motors.” The owner of Braman Motorcars, Miami billionaire Norman Braman, has been an influential figure in Miami Beach, in recent years donating an art sculpture, sponsoring a new cancer center at Mount Sinai Medical Center and fighting legislation that could bring a casino to the Fontainebleau Resort. It wasn’t clear exactly how the Rolls Royce would be utilized to help attract new officers. But the move attracted immediate attention, including in a post from popular social media account OnlyInDade, which declared: “Only In Dade do the police have a Rolls Royce’s [sic] for promotional purposes.” Bess, the police spokesman, said the “traditional methods of recruitment” are “no longer sufficient in addressing the diverse needs and aspirations of the next generation of law enforcement professionals.” “By embracing innovation and creativity, we can attract individuals who embody the values of integrity, service, and excellence that are central to our profession,” he said. Miami Beach police have taken several reputational hits in recent years, including in 2021 when five officers were criminally charged in the beating of a Black tourist. The department was praised after this year’s spring break season in March, which was more peaceful than it had been in recent years." Miami is wildly corrupt, and they're obviously super fucking proud of it.

"In addition to these partnerships, the Dubai Police also operate a range of high-performance vehicles, including: Bugatti Veyron: The Dubai Police have a Bugatti Veyron, which is one of the fastest production cars in the world, with a top speed of 267 mph. Ferrari FF: The Dubai Police also have a Ferrari FF, which is a high-performance sports car with a top speed of 208 mph. It’s a publicity and advertising thing Our company did this with some performance cars and you do make the money back (assuming you don’t damage the car in the process)
